I booked the "first time customer" special online, which was $85 for an hour massage. To me, that's decently reasonable, but definitely on the high end. The regular prices are way too high for me. But I figured I would give it a try because it's right by my home. It was my mistake that I arrived a couple minutes late, but I did have a bit of trouble finding the space. When I got there, it looked to be closed. I called the number on my confirmation email twice and got no answer. I was about to leave when Elise walked up and greeted me. She did give me a full hour of massaging anyway, so no complaints there. I definitely should have arrived at least 5 minutes early, though! About the massage. The website indicated that deep tissue would cost more, but it was plenty "deep" and rough, as is. Elise did, of course, ask me to let her know if it was ever too much, but I don't like to give alot of critique during massages; I like to let them do their thing as much as possible. But I did have to speak up when it felt like she was repeatedly kneading a softball into my neck!! Some people may love massages like that, but it was honestly far too painful for me. She had some moves where it felt like I was being choked and when she kneading into my scalp, I was wincing in pain. I get that I'm tight and she was just trying to loosen it, but it was just way, way too much pressure! And I am usually one to love deep tissue massages!! When I had no choice but to say that it was too much, she came completely off of my neck instead of just going lighter, which is what I was afraid would happen. Another thing that didn't really jive with me was how much heat and oils she used. I don't really need all that stuff; I'd rather the focus be more on the massage, itself. I was relieved when she finally removed a pile of heating pads that she had stacked onto my back! Even though most of it was not my thing, I think Elise is very nice and caring and talented at what she does! It's also a really nice, private setting. And lots of people will appreciate how strong she is! And yes, I could have taken the time to keep telling her it was too much, but again, I don't like to interfere too much with the therapist's flow. read more

It's located in the building on the beltline with various businesses. It's a small space, but it's a very clean and relaxing environment. Kerry Lewis is such an gifted massage therapist. I have been a client for a few years, but because of my last session, I had to let folks know how amazing she is. I typically get a full body massage, but this time, I wanted her to spend most of the time on my lower body. I had recently increased my cycling miles and needed my hips, legs and feet loosened up. Kerry is the most phenomenal masseuse a girl could ask for! I am the pickiest of picky when it comes to my massages, and now that I've found Kerry, I won't go anywhere else. Not to mention, I won't let my friends go anywhere else and have been recommending her left and right. Some quick thoughts: 1) she really shines in a deep tissue massage. I have an extremely demanding job that takes a tremendous toll on my body. Not everyone is strong enough to apply the pressure I need them to - Kerry is. 2) the space is lovely, and quiet. It's a little tricky to find the first time around but it's okay. The space is beautiful and well decorated, and I had plenty of time after my massage to get up at my own pace, dress, and have some water. I didn't feel like I was tiptoeing around anyone else. 3) Kerry is really versatile. She combines a lot of techniques to make sure I'm getting what i need. What an incredible massage! On my flight to NY and thinking about my massage yesterday. I don't go for massage very often because it is difficult for me. During the massage Rennetta worked on my back just as I asked her to. She listened to what I wanted and made my experience good enough to want to return. Now I feel open to getting regular massage again! The best part of the experience was the totally unique and brilliant swaddling technique. During the session there was elaborate use of warm, aroma therapy towels to wrap and swaddle different areas of the body - the neck, the feet. It was tremendously relaxing and comforting. I am sure my mother swaddled me just that way as she taught me how to do it with my own children. "Fold it this way, pull it snug, contain them...It comforts them" she would say. Many people, I suspect, have a massage without a deep understanding of the potential within the session. Touch done with awareness and intention holds the greatest potential for healing. Kerry is the best when it comes to an amazing massage! She saw me right after a minor car accident as I had neck and shoulder pain after the accident. Out of the blue I ended up with the most excruciating pain in my right leg. I didn't know what really caused it but my best guess was either air conditioner was blowing on it while I was sleeping or it was due to fatigue because it was my driving gas pedal leg. Anyway the pain was absolutely horrible and no matter what I would do it just didn't seem to go away. I went to massage by Design and had their technician reneta work on it. Because she knew what the situation was she really worked on it. She knew exactly where that was and worked on it for quite a long time to the point where she finally got it to relax.
