Stay away from this place! They are terrible. The staff is disrespectful and not helpful. Manager is never there but always somewhere else. You schedule appointments and then get them cancelled and they don't call you. Therapists stop wanting to have you as a client for no reason other than you likely don't tip enough. It's a terribly run business. Most of the therapists are awful. Even the good ones are inconsistent. For example one of their best ones literally spent like two minutes on each of my legs. She would consistently do one side of my body one way and the other another. Like she'd massage my left foot but not my right! Every single time. They get you roped into a subscription. Then if you have not used them for a while and need to stop collecting massage credits they still charge you $20 a month and then only keep you on that plan for like three months and then they start charging you the full amount again without telling you. So if you are looking for a good massage - don't go here. Waste of your money. Trust me. There's a lot of really good places out there. This isn't one of them. I cancelled my membership even though I had nearly 20 massages left because they are so bad. When I was upset because I got there and found my appointment cancelled the manager (on the phone) was like, "Don't raise your voice at me." She would yawn constantly, throw arms back under the covers (abruptly), didn't have proper pre or post consultation and at the end just said all done abruptly without offering water and asking how everything was. This poor review comes down to communication and timeliness. My therapist was 10 minutes late bringing me back to my room, so 15 minute late start. Furthermore, my therapist was having "a cuticle issue" and therefore would be wearing plastic, oversized gloves on her hand for my session. As I was already undressed and on the table, I agreed to proceed. After 20 minutes I asked to discontinue the session as the plastic was irritating my sensitive skin and overall was just not an enjoyable massage experience. By the time I was dressed and out to the counter the therapist was there hovering, I'm sure waiting for me to express my disdain. Needless to say, I was still charged a credit from my plan and was asked to leave a tip. I understand we all have jobs and need to make an income, but if you have to wear plastic gloves while administering a massage, stay home. Well got my wife a mother's day massage. She went in today. They were masknazis. Even showing proof of vaxx, they didn't care. They are NOT following cdc guidelines which is no masks for vaxx people. Not to mention the staff is vaccinated here... yet wearing... a... mask... sort of a clown show. Well there's no way my wife is gonna wear a mask while face down in a pillow. It's been a long year with her between my surgeries and having a newborn in July she's had to do everything since I can't due to surgery. So she was looking forward to a relaxing day finally. - yeah that didn't happen. I guess it ended up in a screaming war, she got me refunded and left. Won't be going back here. The fact people are doing this vaccinated and still making you wear a mask? Makes no sense. Even 8f you aren't vaccinated it makes no sense to wear a mask. Massage therapist was running late for my appt so for some reason that meant my massage got cut short. I arrived 15 minutes early like I always do and my massage itself minus the time to change to get in and out of the room was only 40 minutes. As for the massage itself it was just not great, rushed and nothing special. Paid extra for a foot scrub and that consisted of just putting a hot towel on my foot then scrub on, not even rubbing it around and then wiping it off. Total waste of my money. Could have gotten a better massage from my boyfriend for free. She also said I would need to wear the mask during the entire massage while face down in a pillow. WHAT A JOKE! I asked to see their policy in writing where it states I need to where a mask, over my nose at that. She said she didn't have the policy. She then proceeded to argue with me and tell me if I cant wear the mask the way that SHE wanted then I couldn't get my massage. First time at Massage Envy, the customer service was just fine. For your first time you get a discounted rate of $50 for an hour. The therapist I used, JT, gave me more of like a spa type massage. Very relaxing. Generally I like more of a deep tissue therapeutic massage. Maybe she could have gone harder, but she never asked me how I liked the pressure. I wrote hard massage on the initial paperwork so figured that this may be her hard pressure and didn't want to be rude. She was good about making sure where I wanted worked on, very nice. But she cut my massage 10min early, which I did not like at all (that's a big chunk of my hour massage time). The location is clean and the customer service is fine, and there are many different massage therapists to try. I would specify the type of massage you want before booking. read more

I've had massage sessions with four therapists at Massage Envy in Algonquin. All of the therapists who worked with me, were very good! My most recent session was with Ryan. He applies the perfect amount of pressure and manages his time well during each session, allocating an adequate amount of time to each area. His techniques for massage and stretching are so beneficial! I feel like I started the week off right and am ready for whatever the week may bring! Had my first facial at this location, last month. Overall, not a "bad" experience. Friendly front staff, which is a plus. My esthetician was pleasant but WAAAAAAAAAY over chatty. For the price, I didn't get much "relaxation" at all. The Murad product line is a decent one; I walked out with a smooth face and even weeks later, my skin feels great. I guessing it's more about the products than the person applying them tho. I don't really know why everyone says that they are pushy in trying to sell you their membership...I didn't have anyone ask me to join at all! I was kind of dreading having to keep saying "no" if they were as adament as some reviewers claimed they were, but I honestly wasn't asked to join at all until the very end when I mentioned it myself. I really loved my experience there! (I did end up signing up for the membership at the very end just because I loved my experience there and I had been planning on it anyway, but that's beside the point.) Their receptionists were very nice and, sure, their "traquility room" (AKA waiting room while you wait after checking in at the front desk) is cheesy, but it is still comfy and calming. My therapist was Sam and she was AMAZING! She specializes in deep tissue massage and she even tried some Thai stretching therapy with me since she knew it would help my particular problem areas. I've had many other massages at various other places (from high-end spas to hotels to massage therapy schools), and, to be honest, my Massage Envy masseuse was the only one who actually asked a lot of questions and talked me through what she was doing (I did ask a lot of questions and she was EXTREMELY knowledgable). Purchased a membership back in 2017. I've been to the South Elgin and Algonquin locations. Literally only found one good therapist, Ryan. He listens to your needs. His pressure is great! I recently canceled my membership due to the fact that I am going to try and start a family and you can't be massaged during the first trimester. I didn't want to waste money. I called and was told to come in and fill out the paperwork, which I did. I needed 10 days before my payment was due in order not to be charged. My payments have always come out on the 4th of every month. Well, today is the 1st and a payment came out. I asked about it and was told my billing date is the 31st, so why have my payments always been the 4th? I literally received a voicemail from the manager that said I WILL NO LONGER SEE PAYMENTS COMING OUT. But yet I see a payment. I love this place, they know you by name once you have been there a few times. Massage staff is great (Taylor, Justyna and Sally are my favorite massage therapists) and the ladies at the front desk are nice too. I am part of the massage club so I do enjoy that I have to get a massage once a month, it helps with stress. You can bank you massages meaning if you don't use your massage one month the next month you can use it. I like that they are open 7 days a week and I can use my membership at any Massage Envy location. I arrived for my first appointment only to be told that it was cancelled. The lady behind the counter said they left two voicemail messages, but I received no calls or voicemails. Instead of offering to make it right, all she could say was that they called the number on file and left a voicemail. I guess I should have expected as much from a fast food massage business. I will use my gift cards at the Hoffman Estates or Schaumburg locations, and then I will never use this business again. These "chain" massage parlors are not the cream of the crop. First off, they scheduled me on the wrong date, once I got that rectified to the correct date , my therapist was Kelly. I had visited Massage Envy several years ago and had a decent experience at that time. However, the therapist I had today was not the best. In summary, she never asked how the pressure was, spent WAY too much time on my neck, actually had red marks on the right side from her thumb nail digging in several times, "forgot" to massage my left arm, did not do a thorough job of the massage, neglected fingers and toes all together and spent very little time on hands and feet, wow, just over all disappointing, I've had massages from resort spas to having massages from students or recent grads of First Institute in Crystal Lake, all those experiences outweigh this one. I still tipped 20%, because I was initially told the cost was $79, so thinking I tipped 15% with a $12 tip. But it was $49, so $12 was over 20%. I have easily tipped $20 on really good massages, too bad this place won't be getting my business again. I told the receptionist the massage was "just ok"when she asked, and said I was comparing to the others I had in the past. She asked if I wanted to book my next appt, really?? Uh, no. They kept losing my file and I had to fill out paperwork at each visit. The therapist was hurting me and didn't stop after I said stop three times. I had to slap her hand before she got the picture. This location of Massage Envy, is one of the best around, and I would give them six stars if I could. The people who work here really seem to care and all have positive attitudes. I have been coming here at least 3-4 years and have seen at least 3 different massage therapists, and IMHO a therapist named Laura is the best one here. The owners just did a complete remodel of the individual rooms, lobby, and waiting area in the past year, and the range of services, including various types of therapeutic and sports massage, is excellent. The front desk staff is always polite and courteous, and they will call a day prior to confirm an appointment. Laura is highly knowledgeable about massage types and anatomy and she has helped me heal more quickly from tough workouts and nagging sports injuries more than most chiropractors that I have seen. When getting a massage, you can relax and zone out, sleep, or chit chat. I highly recommend this place, especially in these crazy and stressful times! read more

I came to Massage Envy for the first time and was quite disappointed. This is what people think a relaxing, great massage is? Really? :\ Let me explain my problems..... first of all, the relaxing waiting-room type deal was just that... not much more than a comfy waiting room. It was quite noisy from traffic and conversation at the desk. I felt like I could have been at a doctor's office for all I knew. The getting started process wasn't too bad, except that when I had filled out my form the girl at the front desk came back into the waiting room and went over my medical history with me right IN FRONT of other guests just an arm's length away. They were all sitting quietly not saying anything, except hearing my medical history. It was embarrassing. What on earth made them think that was appropriate? I have no idea... The massage itself was good. Average, I'd say. I left feeling like my muscles were much looser and relaxed, however I did not feel she got all the knots out. The atmosphere during the massage in the room itself was pretty nice, and my masseuse was friendly enough. As I was checking out.. oh my God. I have never been pushed so hard to join a membership program. First it was listening through the girl telling me all about it and why I should do it (me politely nodding), followed by the "special offers" she'd give me just this once if I signed up RIGHT NOW, and when I told her I'd need to think about it she had the audacity to ask me WHY I couldn't do it! Buyer beware! Shop around, speak with therapists at OTHER area clinics and give other stores a try BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING from this clinic! We've been members here for some time. Their therapists were good but it appears they have more turnover than other area clinics (non-Massage Envy). Whenever we find a therapist we like, they have not stayed very long. Rarely do we get a massage from a Massage Envy therapist who has been there a year or more. Sessions are rushed, tend to start late, and their employees seem exhausted by their heavy workload. We're exercising our option to terminate since our initial term has expired. Their billing practices are aggressive - even more so than other Massage Envy clinics. When we tried to terminate our membership they would not acknowledge by email or letter accepting our termination request, and just kept billing. Calls and visits to the store did not help. We ended up having to change our CC#, send registered return receipt letters and open a BBB case just to counter their threatening tactics. Our experience at this clinic has not only soured us at this business: We will not in good conscience visit or recommend another Massage Envy again. There are several wonderful therapists in Algonquin, Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. Try other clinics and therapists. Ask LOTS of questions to find a therapist that is right for you. But be very aware that you're signing a long-term contract that is VERY difficult to get out of - no matter how subpar the service is. read more

My experience at Massage Envy was not great, not even very good. I can tell this chain is trying to squeeze out every dollar from you by charging spa quality pricing while maintaining low standards. If I hadn't paid with a gift card I would have felt scammed, despite receiving the new client special offer. The front desk girl who helped me was very nice and personable, so that was positive. The reception and waiting room is drab and hardly soothing. They had water available in paper Dixie cups as the only amenity. I did not have to wait long to meet my massage therapist and get into my room for the massage. My massage itself was pretty good. I had requested to add the aromatherapy perk to enhance my massage, but I didn't smell much of anything. My therapist was a little jolting when he moved my blankets or the bolster, which took me away from the moment. What really soured this experience was the money aspect. There were several points where Massage Envy attempted to gain as much from me in one visit as possible: - Firstly, they charge too much for an introductory massage. This may be because they don't have people coming back, but it's not an enticing offer compared to what else is available. - Secondly, they had a tip suggestion list bolted to the wall of my massage room. There was no other art or decoration to the room. I have never seen this at a massage parlor. It would make so much more sense to be at the reception desk, but I saw it when I entered and left so I was thinking about money instead of relaxation. The kicker is that they charged me gratuity when I checked out, so my tip amount wasn't even optional! I don't know if this is always the case but it was a red flag for me. - Thirdly, I did experience the "hard sell" you see others complaining about. The girl at the front desk (not my massage therapist) went over how the massage went and told me he "recommended" massage every month. Out comes the monthly pricing sheet! She told me how they'd "wave the $40 application fee today". Are you serious? You actually charge people $40 just to become a member, on top of the monthly fee? Why, because there's so much paperwork involved in charging my card every month? I feel so sorry for anyone who has paid that. When I declined, she asked me why more than once. Their membership starts at $60 a month, which is a fair price for an actual spa but not this chain. In summation, my experience was not horrible, but there was hardly a positive thing to say about Massage Envy. I most definitely will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone. read more
