This was actually my first professional massage, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but the staff made the process easy and comfortable. For the massage itself, I chose a deep tissue massage, and my therapist did a fantastic job. The pressure was exactly what I was looking for, and I left feeling noticeably better than when I walked in. My wife enjoyed her massage as well, which made it a great experience for both of us. The service was friendly and professional throughout our visit. Everyone was welcoming, answered our questions, and helped us feel relaxed from the moment we arrived. The ambiance was exactly what you'd want from a massage spa--quiet, clean, and relaxing without feeling overdone. It was easy to disconnect from the outside world and focus on unwinding. It was my first time at a massage envy. She came out and called my name. Walked me to the room, did not interact with me until in the room where she very straight face no emotion asked me what areas I needed work on. I felt like she had just had a fight with someone or was just pissed off so I told her my right shoulder and my back. She explained where to put my things. I almost just decided to not get a massage but I was in a lot of pain and really needed some relief. She asked if I wanted a scalp massage to start and I agreed. She was basically moving my hair but not touching my head and at one point pulled my hair and I told her it hurt and she apologized. She also wore gloves which I guess is her preference but I thought it was weird.She did a good job massaging my neck.I moved here from Colorado and had an amazing massage therapist for years. She was friendly, caring and truly loved her job. I definitely will not pick Jayne for my next massage because I did not feel welcomed by her. read more

I would rate this place 10 stars if I could!!! Let's just say my man was able to book me a same day and thank God they had one appt available PERIODT!!! The receptionist greeted me; as well as checked me in upon walking inside. Mind you this was my first visit at this particular location and that alone made me feel really good knowing that she knew exactly who I was. The facility was extremely clean. Products were in full stock and aligned neat and nice! Visible so that all clients/customers could see! My personal masseuse was Olivia and let's just say I will be seeing her again. The medium pressure was on point start to finish! She concentrated on the areas I brought to her attention during our short consultation at the beginning. My neck and shoulders were in horrible condition and she worked out every kink possible. She offered me some water after my session and I thanked her tremendously for servicing me so last minute. I had a wonderful experience here. I had an appointment for an hour customized facial at 9pm on a Wednesday night. Yes, you read it right, 9pm. Crazy huh? Not really because evidently a lot of people have facials at night. I was greeted immediately by the lady behind the counter and she gave me an electronic tablet to answer some questions about my skin care profile. I was then showed to the Tranquility room where I waited for about 10 minutes until Mila, my esthetician. She introduced herself and showed me to the facial room. I was to undress from the waist up (to my comfort level) and to lay on the heated bed. This was glorious! She then started to cleanse, exfoliate, scrub, wrap, and tone my face, neck, and just below my neck area. She also massaged both arms. She explained everything she was doing. She also explained the type of skin I have since she was able to cover my eyes and shine a bright light on my face to show any and all imperfections. I seriously fell asleep for about a second a couple time. I know this because I caught myself snoring twice. Anyway, everything was wonderful. The employees were great. Mila, was a professional esthetician, and extremely knowledgable with skin care. I haven't been here in about 10 years so I was considered a new customer and was able to take advantage of the $49 hour facial. I actually had a gift card for $50. I only had to pay for the tip. Came in for a prenatal massage today which was incredibly relaxing. Unfortunately upon finishing it and walking up to the front desk to pay, the woman behind the desk got very rude with me when I declined to come back in two weeks (my due date). She went from kind to angry and incredibly stand offish once she realized I wasn't purchasing a membership or a follow up massage- even after I explained to her that I was in fact due at that time. I've worked in salons and retail and the front desk people are the very first experience your clients have when walking through the doors. The masseuse was great but the staff at the front desk are not worth it. I get you guys are having a membership drive but I'm not changing my due date or rescheduling massages for after I deliver to accommodate your sales goals. Definitely will not be returning. Recently I woke up with a knot in my neck that just got worse during a stressful work day. I needed a massage. My preferred places were either inconveniently across town or required a couple day's notice for an appt. So I called Massage Envy and, sweet, they could take me as soon as I got off work. Ahhh-wesome: -As I mentioned, you can get an appt without much notice. -The massage was great, and I got an introductory price of $39 for an hour. -Very clean, modern, tranquil facility. Lame-o: -There's this sales pressure to sign up for a monthly package. Not a lot of pressure, but you get the feeling, they really don't want your walk in business. They want you to pay a monthly membership fee that includes 1 massage a month and a reduced rates on additional services. Last thing I need is another monthly financial obligation. - This chain is popping up all over town! It feels like a chain, not personal. Not unique. I think this place would be great for somebody who gets a couple massages a month because signing up for a membership would save you money. For the rest of us who just want to treat ourselves occasionally, I think there are places that have more character worth checking out. read more

I had to cancel a massage due to an emergency and the manager "worked with me" by still taking a credIt from my account acting like she was being nice. HORRIBLE. If you're looking to get a good message at a good price then this will work great for you but there are a few items that keep it from hitting the 4 and 5 Star rating. First off no matter what length of message you sign up for you can count on it starting late and ending a few minutes early. I go here quite often, due to its location, and I cannot remember a time when a session started and ended when it was supposed to. Basically an hour message is equivalent to 45 to 48 min. Second is the waiting area. Although it is comfortable it's only relaxing when there's only one maybe two other patrons waiting in there...and they're not talking on their phone or have the sound on while playing a game. The furniture is also a bit too much. The multiple chairs take up a lot of room pushing folks together when they are trying to find their escape. If they remove one chair and place a sign stating to please refrain from talking or using your phone it would be much more relaxing. Lastly, like many message envy studios the masseur turnover is rather quick. I've had to change masseuses more than a few times, which is OK but I'd much rather stick with the same masseuse. Overall: The service is great. The price is fair and (at least for me) the location is convenient so I find this message envy A-OK (3 Stars). read more

Have been a member of Massage Envy for years and generally enjoy it. Recently moved and have been coming to the Hanbury location. I'm giving 2 stars because recently my massages have started later and later and later. Last night I booked a 90 minute massage starting at 8:30. I didn't get called back to the room until 8:45. Then I laid there waiting another 5 minutes. They assured me they would add my 15 minutes on at the end of my massage but did not. The therapist ended my massage at 10:00. That's not 90 minutes. If my Massage is 90 minutes, I expect to be face down getting a massage at 8:30, not in the waiting area for 20 minutes after my scheduled therapy is supposed to start. This seems to be the hew normal, each appointment beginning later and later into my scheduled session which is disappointing because this is something I really look forward to in order to de-stress. Will update my rating if I see some improvement in the timeliness. read more

This was my first facial. My parents got me a gift card for my birthday and I planned to use it towards a facial. I called to make an appointment for the next weekend. The person let me know there was a special going at that time so I was also able to book a free add-on. When I arrived I was greeted promptly and in a friendly manner. After filling out the paperwork I was given a brief tour of the facility and discussed what all the the facial would entail. Pheenie actually performed my facial and it was great, very relaxing. Wow---just left the Massage Envy clinic for the second time today feeling wonderful. Everytime I go in I'm greeted by friendly, helpful staff who are not only very knowledgeable about the clinic and their services but they're always more than willing to help find whatever it is that I need to make my life easier and better. My visit today was truly the best hour and half of my whole day. My therapist was wonderful, she truly relieved my back pain. And after discussing my condition with my therapist i decided to start actually focusing on my back pain, to go further than just simple daily relief instead I'm working on a prevention plan to really keep the pain from coming back. The girl at the front desk even set me up with a great discounted plan to keep my therapy costs at an all time low--ask about their Wellness Program. I was visiting Chesapeake from Northern California. I am a Massage Envy Club member and have used them in whatever city I find myself with a little extra time. I used their website's online appointment feature and requested an appointment for an hour massage the next day within a certain time period, and they called back in 1.5 hours to book me with Jen the next day. Jen did at excellent job on my massage, and seem to know exactly what my body needed. She was knowledgeable and professional. There is a lot of room for improvement in the area of customer relations with people working the front desk. There were three people behind the desk when I arrived, and although professional, they were neither friendly or interested in anything but performing their job. The only smile I saw was a polite one, and that was only from one of them. They need to learn basic interpersonal skills in order to make people feel welcomed. I certainly didn't. They weren't rude, just not pleasant. I did not feel anything but disinterest. On the other hand, when I come to the Chesapeake area again, I would go to this location again only if I could book an appointment with Jen specifically. I have a lot of stress with my job and had neck and shoulder pain. Tara at the reception desk was able to get me in within an hour. She put me with an amazing massage therapist who listened to where my problem areas were and really helped me. I joined this location that evening and had made another appointment for a few days later with Rebecca. She was very similar to Harriet who did my first massage. Since that first week of being a member, getting an appointment at this location has been more difficult. I am able to get appointments scheduled a few weeks out, but nothing more immediate. I did go to another location the other day (Suffolk) and it was not a great experience. I really like the atmosphere of the Chesapeake location. The friendly staff and great massage therapists will draw me back to this location every time. read more

This was the first time I have visited a Message Envy, and I am only going back because I have a gift card to use! The message I had was nice, but I've had better. But I wouldn't consider this a spa. Also, after the message, you came out to pay and BAAM! SALES PRESSURE! I felt a lot of sales pressure... hell the girl at the front desk had the contract already filled out! Never in my life went to a spa they have ever done that! I said no thank you and the continued! I thought to myself... well there went my relaxation! I had a gift card for three sessions, after this I had two left and I wanted to take my daughter with me! Which they didn't have a problem with that BUT they wanted to charge me $10 extra because of a transfer of membership ( remember I didn't sign anything) . They finally waived the fee, but come on people! They acted they were doing me a favor...Relaxed... definitely not now! All they want is $$$! I understand they need to make it... but lardy it's a nickel and dime you place! I feel they need to work on their salespeople; I think they have high pressure sales there, it felt like I was at a car dealership! I had an appt for an hour facial and an hour and a half massage originally there was a 45 min gap in between them. I got a call 2 hours before my appt saying my esthetician would see me later so there wasn't a gap in between my appts. AWESOME! Massage envy doing it right! Only to get a call 30 minutes before me appt that my esthetician went home sick. That's fine I understand shit happens ppl get sick. But I live 45 min away so I now had an hour to kill. I must say I think it's a little crummy that I wasn't offered anything for my inconvenience. Didn't even ask can we reschedule your appt for you? nothing. I pay 60$ a month for a 50 min massage which is already over priced in my opinion. I don't feel like I should have to say something in order for it to be made right. I am nothing but pleasant when I go in there an always leave atleast a 10$ tip. I've been an esthetician for 7 years and if I need to cancel an appt for any reason I always let them know how truly sorry I am and make it right. I was having lower back pain and as a mother of three, had very little time to get a massage. I went in and was immediately put at ease. The front desk staff was so sweet and kind and really took the time to find out what my therapeutic massage needs were. The therapist was very professional and made me feel amazing. I came out of there feeling better than I had in years. It was overall a great experience and I felt incredible afterwards.
