I have been a member for the past 3 years, and I've tried a variety of services with different staff members, and honestly they have all been fantastic especially for the price! The front desk staff is ALWAYS welcoming and helpful -- like I actually feel like they care about me when I come in. And the space itself is quiet, calm, and relaxing. Definitely not a fancy spa, but good enough. Booking appointments is easy, and I really appreciate how simple it is to reschedule when needed. The massage therapists and estheticians I've seen have all been professional, skilled, and genuinely kind. I felt like I had a good experience here! There are a few things that could have been better, but overall, it was positive for both my massage and facial. The front desk staff was friendly and inviting. Check-in didn't take much time at all. Massage started right on time with Vivian. She was very attentive to the amount of pressure I wanted and I could have almost fallen asleep. However, during the massage, I frequently heard cabinets/doors opening and slamming closed, and people talking loudly outside. That was kind of irritating given the actual room I was in had soft music and calming vibes. It just took me right out of the relaxation, honestly. But otherwise, Vivian did a great job at listening to what I needed. The facial was also great! Raina is clearly a talented and experienced esthetician. I enjoyed our conversation and she offered me a lot of helpful tips and product recommendations based on my specific skin issues (redness, hormonal acne). She is up to date on the latest products. The products she used felt smooth on my face. A couple of them burned a little (like Vitamin C type tingle - not too major, and I am pretty sensitive). But most of them were soothing. When I left, my face was a little red, but it always is after a facial. A couple hours later, my skin is calm and feel so soft and clean. They do try to sell you on the membership but I didn't feel overly pressured to sign up. I don't know if I'd jump to a membership based on the chaotic and loud background noise during the massage, but I would consider going again. read more

Raina is an absolute gem!! She is the lead esthetician and has an excellent and extensive knowledge in all things skin and even a med spa background. I drive 35 mins to see her and she is always so accommodating which makes it easy to get in with her despite my busy schedule and the commute. I go to her for all my skin care needs & trust all her product recommendations - she has transformed my skin from combo oily/dry flaky and acne prone to smooth and glowy! I finally feel confident with my skin even without makeup on. I have gone to her for facials, chemical peels, & the latest oxygen therapy for my skin. Even in times where I haven't been able to come in- I am still able to maintain my skin and keep it beautiful with the medical grade skin care she has recommended me & have been able to purchase in store with her so she can walk me through the every day essentials and weekly at home treatments for my skin. When I step into her facial room I am instantly relaxed- she is very clean & organized down to every detail from lighting to a heating pad already warm for me to lay on. She describes every step in detail and educates me on why she is doing what she is doing and what the products are doing for my skin. Raina is my esthetician for life! Lol. I wish I could book my future appointments ahead of time for the whole year or even just 6 weeks in advance- but unfortunately the scheduling is through the front desk and not Raina. not going to lie, the previous ownership was having a bit a trouble sourcing and retaining talents. But since the new ownership took over earlier in the spring this year, things have gotten better. There are now many newer therapists who are fantastics and does all sorts of pressure. Personally, I am a deep tissue person, in the past, it's almost impossible to get an appointment, but nowadays, we have many new therapists, to name a few, Lily, Lenn, and Lisa are all fantastic! Thankfully, once you step inside the door you forget about that. Large front desk with 2 gals staffed, each very very nice and helpful. I had a gift card for a facial, and after 4 years, it was time to finally use it! Arlana has a late schedule (-10pm!), so it was perfect for me. She's very sweet and did a great facial for me! She's very talkative which was great since I still don't often socialize with the fricken pandemic, so you might need to Shhhh her if you want to relax. This was my first time getting a facial and Massage Envy was the perfect place to do it at! I scheduled a 60 minute appointment with Raina and after we finished our session, I knew it would not be my last facial! When checking in, I took a quick survey on a tablet, indicating what type of skin I have, any regimen I follow, and any concerns I have regarding my skin. I arrived a bit early, so I was shown to the tranquility room, where there are complementary tea and foot massagers to accompany my wait. Raina came to take me to our room right on time and she walked me through exactly what our appointment was going to entail. It was so relaxing and she made sure to let me know what we were doing at each step and answered all my questions. Raina is super knowledgeable, as she used to specialize in dermatology, and gave me some helpful recommendations specific to my skin. From start to finish, the experience was so relaxing. It ended with a face mask complimented by hand and arm massages. I left the room glowing! My face has never looked so dewy nor has it felt this soft. I've tried booking a same day appointment pretty often with no success, but today was my lucky day! Genevieve scheduled me for a same day 60-minute massage. I asked for someone who can apply firm pressure. The front area was clean and nicely put together. The "Tranquility Room" was nice to wait in and really inviting. There's comfortable chairs and peaceful music playing. The beverage area has water, tea and hot apple cider. It smells nice and cleaned regularly. The electric fireplace sets a relaxing tone to the space while I waited to be called back. My massage was so great I decided to sign up for a membership! I'm going to try a different masseuse at my next appointment. In these types of things, I like to close my eyes and rest my thoughts. I walked in with restricted movement and serious pain in my back. I would have chosen zero stars. I recently had to cancel a massage less than 24 hours before my appointment. I had a fever and a cough. They decided to charge my massages based on their "rules" vs keeping everyone safe and not exposed. I could have just masked and exposed everyone but I chose to do the right thing. Unfortunately after several attempts to request they make this right, they chose to follow the "rules". So if you're sick mask up and expose or be charged. I intend to notify the Board of Health as well, because they encourage us to not "do the right thing" and stay home. read more

This review gets reduced stars because the woman in the office told me she was going to charge me $5 because their clinic is in a higher tax bracket than my home clinic. I told her no she could not do that without my permission and lack of being informed about this apparent rule. Then the man in the office explained the rule to again why they would charge me. Raina is a wonderful esthetician at Massage Envy Lamorinda. Fyi, I've been a member of massage envy for over 10 years but it was for massage only at a different location. I started seeing Raina last August in 2021 after I read about her in a yelp review. I drive a half-hour to see her. There are closer options but I hadn't met someone like her who had a clear understanding of my skin and gave me the confidence that she could help me. Taking care of my skin is expensive. It requires a financial investment. I wasn't prepared to just trust anyone-regardless of their experience. I had age related -hereditary- facial pigmentation I could no longer cover with make up and I was self conscious and unhappy. I didn't like what I was seeing when I looked in the mirror and I was sad about it. I've always taken good care of my skin, but I've never seen a esthetician regularly. Prior to Raina I had been using a top skin care line for two years. Then the pandemic began and well... And though my skin had definitely improved, my skin still looked dull to me and I needed help caring for it. Raina was warm and confident. She worked with me explaining the process it would take to improve the condition of my skin. She recommended the best products for my sensitive, thinning, biracial, easily scarred skin type. She understood that aggressive-intrusive treatment with my skin would irritate it and possibly cause more pigmentation. My most recent facial was December 2022. When I left, my skin was absolutely radiant. I often get compliments on my skin, and the dullness has gone away. The pigmentation has lightened considerably with a skin regiment I follow diligently-regular facials, daily skin care, and lots of sun screen. By the way, I didn't know that I needed to update my sunscreen. And Raina explained which kind works best for me. Who knew? The results has been outstanding and worth the financial time and investment. If i can find the before and after pictures, I will add them. Tried to schedule online several times, but it never worked. Finally called and scheduled an appointment. I scheduled an 80 minute prenatal massage (38 weeks pregnant and not a lot of time to spare). The receptionist was very efficient and friendly. The tech was nice enough, but talked a lot, and worst of all, SHORTED ME 12 MINUTES. I mentioned it at the front desk and she said maybe they started early. I said I had looked at the clock and was sure it started right on time. She said she couldn't adjust it, but would talk to the tech and have the owners contact me. Never heard a peep. Called to follow up, but still never got a call back. I suffer from huge knots that require deep tissue massage to release them. Normally I am left feeling like it wasn't quite firm enough to truly help me. That was until I had a massage with Christine spelled with a "C". Hands down the best massage therapist I have ever had the pleasure of being worked on by. I am not one to just give out complements of this nature, unless it is truly earned. She is a tiny bundle of dynamite. My wife sent me here with a gift card she had after hearing my complaining about back pain. At the end, I presented the card and was asked if I wanted to leave a gratuity, which I asked to leave on the card. Greg took the card and scanned it and told me it had just enough to cover the massage ($49.99 for a new customer), but nothing else. Seemed odd since I was pretty sure my wife told me it had a lot more (also later seemed odd, thinking about it, that it would have EXACTLY $49.99 left), but he said he was sure so I figured maybe I remembered wrong and she had used more on something else. So I got home and mentioned it to my wife and she said it had a little over $110 left on it. Now annoyed (massage relaxation gone), I called back and they said to come back and they would straighten it out. Not wanting to waste my time or have to argue about it there, I asked them to confirm they could see the mistake before I came back, to which they said they would look into it and call me back. Shortly afterwards, Greg called me back and apologized for the mistake, he had read the balance on the card incorrectly and the card actually had $110 left on it. So I went back to pick up the card again and asked him to confirm the value, since it should have had $110 before the charge today, and I didn't want to have another issue later. After some research and ultimately scanning the card again, he corrected himself and said it had $60 left, which is what it should have. I don't know whether it was truly an honest mistake or not, but that experience really makes me distrust this business. That just seems like a really unlikely mistake and would have cost me $60 if I hadn't asked my wife. It also spoiled the relaxed feeling I had, having to deal with that and then drive all the way back and pick up the card again (they wouldn't bring it to me - I asked). Their business model is not my favorite either - they try to push you into buying a membership, which I don't like. If you don't, their "regular" prices are way higher than local competitors. The massage was okay - the therapist was really nice and I feel bad saying, but I've definitely had better massages. She also talked through the whole thing, which at first I responded in kind, trying to be friendly, but not thinking it would go on the entire hour. I suppose I could have told her I didn't want to have a conversation, but I didn't want to be rude; that just seems like it should be normal protocol. That was a bit of a spoiler to the overall relaxation experience, as nice as she was. read more
