Let's hit the cons first. Appt at 11, started at 11:15. Massage was more like a gentle back rub. I think my therapist fell asleep on me twice while holding a pressure point which is disguised as... I'm going to press here for a solid 3 minutes so I don't have to do anything else. Onto the pros.. you get to lay on a nice warm table. Really... I've never had a good massage here unfortunately. You're better off paying 1/4 the price at oxmoor on a chair massage that leaves you walking out feeling like a new person. read more

The massages were excellent but make sure you read your contract carefully because as you are discussing your contract , there was no mention that you have to do additional paperwork to end your contract. My contact started in February and it was for one year. In March I was charged even though my contract ended. The contract is not a favorable contract for the customer. I was also told after had I only had 10 days to use it. I did not get my massage in March but my deducted payment was not refunded. I was told that it could not be refunded. I would highly recommend that you read it thoroughly at home before you sign it. The contract should be the opposite. It should automatically expire and if you want to extend it, then you could contact the owner and sign more paperwork. Don't sign a membership contract. It says under extenuating circumstances management at their discretion can let you our. With a $2,700 transmission repair, I needed to save money and needed out of the contract. The manager said no and would not let me out. So now I take my business to Elements where the management is much nicer. read more

Terrible service. My husband bought a gift card for $280. Called to make an appointment. They charge $125 for a 60 minute service. So expensive!! Spoke to Nicole to make an appointment who wouldn't book without my credit card on file for cancellation. I asked if she can put my gift card on file since I didn't want to provide my credit card. Hard no, it was against their policy. Totally inflexible. Makes zero sense why when you already have my money on the gift card to book a massage. Terrible shady sounding business. Stay away. TERRIBLE. I had a membership for over three years. It is extremely difficult to get appointments. My husband has over a year's worth of credits backed up because it is near impossible to get an appointment on a night or weekend. Several times, after making an appointment weeks in advance, Massage Envy cancelled on me. Either the therapist quit or had a personal emergency, with no effort by Massage Envy to rebook me or accommodate me otherwise. After this most recent cancellation, which I became aware of when I called today to confirm my appointment for the 12th, I cancelled my membership. I will go to a full service spa and pay a premium for consistency and consideration. For something that is supposed to be relaxing, this was a beyond aggravating experience! Update: My husband had an appointment today and got a call while on his way there that they had to cancel his appointment. read more

This is the story of how I got roped into a Massage Envy membership. I was home to hang with the family for a while. I was worn out from weeks of non-stop work. I was cranky. I was in need of some selfishness. I figured that I would take advantage of the preliminary offer. They have this deal for like $39 for your first massage. Cheap! So, I booked the appointment and prepared myself for mediocrity. I figured that the price wouldn't translate to quality. I was very, very wrong. No one tried to hard sell the membership. They massaged the idea into me. It worked. The fact that this franchise has locations all over the map and I can utilize my membership benefits anywhere was also a major selling point. I'm all over the map, literally, so this works for me. Anyway, the point is that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the services and the price is right. read more

I definitely do not recommend getting a membership here. I was under the impression that when I cancelled my membership that as long as I booked my last appt. before the deadline that my last credit was applicable. Not so I was charged an additional $125. Massages are good but after four years of going there and spending a lot of money I will not be back. Plenty of places to go other than this. Very disappointed with the cancelation policy. I booked an appt online with a Springhurst location for 5pm. I received a call a little after noon asking if I was going to make it to my appt at the Middletown location. I explained that my appt was for later and at a different location and was told that they show that I booked online for noon and would have to charge me 50% for a same day cancelation. I asked for them to look at my account and see if the other appt is there and they confirmed. So I argued why would I book two appts the same day at two different locations? The response was that the website isn't super connected and that I should call to make future appts. I was at they gym at the time so I called back later and spoke to a manager after a 14 minute wait-which is I'm sure why they offer online booking, huh?. The manager explains that the website comment meant that they have people who book online sometimes and then come in and they don't have an appt. Sooooo you are aware of website issues, the exact opposite happened to me, but you have no flexibility? How am I being charged for a same day cancellation when I had no idea I even booked the appointment? I'll avoid this location at all costs going forward and will only book at Springhurst as I've never had an issue with them. read more

This location texted me the day of my appt. to say they had HVAC problems and there would be no heat & loud noises during my appt. I called to cancel considering it was 30 degrees outside & the point of a massage is relaxation. They said they would charge me for cancelling, I asked to speak to mgr. & they said she'd call me back. She never called, I called again the next day, she refused to give me a credit because I didn't give 24hr. notice - even though it was IMPOSSIBLE to give 24 hrs. because they told me no heat/loud noise 2 HRS. I have been a member for over 10 years. Unfortunately, the customer service has deteriorated. It is very difficult to get an appointment. I try to use the app, but there are rarely any openings. Several months ago, my appointment time was changed by 15 minutes without any notice until I received my confirmation. I called to check on the time because I didn't want to arrive at the wrong time. I received a call 2 days ago to tell me that I needed to change my 90 minute appoint to 60 minutes or change the day because the therapist had a 30 min gap in her schedule and gaps are not allowed. There was no apology no any mention of trying to make it up to me. I explained that I had scheduled the day off work to have the massage and meet up with a friend after for lunch. They didn't care. All they cared about was filling up the 30 minutes so they could make more money. I would have been OK if they had told me that there was a scheduling glitch and they would give me a free add on for my inconvenience. Just a small gesture to let me know that they appreciate me as a customer. I asked for a call from the manager. Just like other reviewers, I never got a call. I cancelled the appointment and rescheduled at another Massage Envy in town. I will not be going back to Middletown. Also, I wonder if the therapists are leaving Middletown. My husband has been a member here for awhile and had an extra credit left over around our birthdays so he let me use it (such a sweetheart am I right...). Anyways, my first experience was ok, I've never had a man massage me before so at first it was a little awkward, but I must admit I felt relaxed after. They mentioned that since my husband already had a membership that mine would be $10 less a month, so why not?! I ended up not using my first credit and so I had two around the time of our anniversary so I decided, why not gift my husband a couples massage. Bonus for me, am I right? I have massage therapists who are really good but in the past when they massaged my legs the method they used tickled so much that it wasn't very relaxing because it made you tense up. As much as I grew up a tom boy, I bleed Hello Kitty and Pink whenever I get a chance to have a Massage. I was introduced to Massage Envy first when I was visiting a friend in Austin, TX. So when I found out they were opening a few locations here I squeee'd with joy. Now i'm sure there are a few of you who dont really like the idea of chain anything, and I will admit I have to agree, but Massage Envy is grate. The Staff are friendly, and make you feel really comfortable, which for me is a necessity. Ive had massages at both Z Salon locations and I find that I am sometimes not well received due to my passion for tattoos and body mods. This was not a problem at Massage envy. The consultation was thorough, and explanations of any issues were understandable without the pressure for return visits. The return visits are the added bonus. A membership system is in place where you pay a reasonable monthly fee which includes a one hour massage each month (which carries over if it goes unused). Then any additional massages throughout the month are heavily discounted. Your membership is usable at any Massage Envy location nationwide, and since I bounce around the country a lot visiting friends this is a great perk. If nothing else you should experience this place once, just to try it out. read more

I get massages regularly. I cannot give this place one star because Customer Service is not top priority. Had a bad experience about 6 years ago. Touched inappropriately. I didn't report it. Just decided I would never go back. Received a gift certificate from my sister two years ago. Held it for two years and thought about regifting it because of mixed feelings about Massage Envy. Tried to schedule an appointment today for specific masseuse in hopes of having a comfortable massage. Michelle pretty much told me they don't want my business because of my request and hung up on me. Very unprofessional. I will give this gift card away and hope they are treated better than I have been treated. Will never ever spend a $1 at Massage Envy. I DO NOT recommend this place to any body. I have stumbled upon this place when I went to drop off my Boxster at Blue Grass Porsche. My membership is at the Tucson, Arizona but it was easy to use my credit to get my facial done. It was good because the lady who did my facial was not trying to sell the products like the other locations. You get what you pay for? Are you kidding me, my wife has been going there for over a year and we are month to month now (contract was for only for 12 months). She had an 1 1/2 hour massage scheduled and we needed to just make it an hour massage. I called for my wife to make the change and the girl answering the phone said no problem. I then received a call back within a few minutes from the "manager" telling me that they would still charge me for the time not being used. Being a business owner myself and in this economy you do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy even if that means working around a customers schedule when its not convenient. I'm going today to cancel our "membership" since it requires a 30 notice to cancel month to month agreement.. I have had several massages from other places and this never happens, except to ask it everything is comfortable, those kind of things. She even asked if me and my husband belonged to a church and told us we should try there's! We were not even the same religion! It was not very relaxing, more awkward to say the least. I have called three times for a simple INVOICE from an appointment I had set up for an employee for winning a contest. Well, the poor young lady answering the phone must think I am a scam or telemarketer for asking for my invoice because she has hung up on me THREE TIMES. How did I resolve this problem? I've had to call the St. Matthews Massage Envy for them to call the manager or the poor young lady at the Massage Envy Middletown location because she evidently does not know what an invoice is defined as or doesn't know what she is hearing. When she redeemed the gift card however, she was told that she would have to pay additonal money because their rates were raised. Even though the gift card specifically stated message and facial. Today, I went in for a massage and facial. Blair did my facial and Derek did my massage. Blair was AMAZING - no complaints. Easy to talk to, intelligent, knew her stuff, made me feel very relaxed and I loved the whole experience. Derek on the other hand.. The massage itself was fine. No complaints there. However, he was not very friendly at all. Blair left and Derek came in. I said hello and asked him how he was. He said fine, but did not ask me how I was in return. Not a huge deal but I was like uhh, okay. So then he says "so this is just a DMT right?" as if I knew what that stood for. I assumed deep tissue so I said yes. That was ALL he said about the massage. Didn't ask me any questions, didn't even introduce himself. The ONLY reason I knew his name was because the LOVELY man who checked me in (younger, had braces) told me and Blair did as well. P.S. the guy who checked me in was so helpful and he answered every question I had. He was SO nice. Anyways.. Derek did not introduce himself. Asked me how the pressure was a couple times throughout the massage. THEN he asked me if this was back only or if this was full body.. like aren't you supposed to know what massage you're about to give me!?!?! After the massage was over he simply said "thank you" and walked out the door. That was it. I've had a couple massages in the past and the masseuse has always been super friendly, asked me some questions, told me what they were doing, asked me if I enjoyed it afterwards, etc etc. Derek did none of this. I was not impressed. He seemed like he just did not want to be there. Whether he wanted to be there or not, he could have at least put on his happy face and got through his shift. Also, I don't feel like it was a full hour. Because I walked out of the building at 12:55, fully clothed and all and it started at 12:00.. so that was another thing. He seemed very rushed. I had an appointment on a Sunday at 2pm. I was contacted around 11am that day that the therapist called in sick (which was not the 1st time this had happened with this particular therapist). I rescheduled my appt with another therapist that I had previously seen (due to above therapist calling in sick) on the following Thursday. I was contacted on that Tuesday that the therapist had a tooth pulled and was having complications and would not be in on Thursday (which I found odd) but I rescheduled with another therapist for the same day. I asked to have a manager to contact me for which I was informed that they were all at a meeting out town that day but would leave a message for someone to call. So I go in on Thursday for my appointment and who do I see, the therapist who was not supposed to be there due to an alleged dental issue. After my massage I asked one of the receptionist at the front desk if that particular therapist was in today (already knowing that I'd seen her). She informs me, "oh yeah, she did come in this morning. She had a hour slot open and we were going to call you but the therapist stated that she wasn't sure if she'd be able to go as 'deep' as you wanted due to her alleged dental issues". I wasnt sure why she would come to work if she couldn't effectively do her job (if that is at all what transpired). Secondly, if she just came in this morning and you all didnt know, how does she already have a full schedule? This was implied by her stating that the therapist only had a hour slot but my massage was for 90 minutes. Would she not have an open schedule considering the fact that you allegedly canceled all of her appointments on Tuesday and she just showed up for work this morning? This perturbed me to no end and I felt slightly discriminated against. I again, asked for a manager to call me. So almost a week has gone by since my initial request to have a manager to call me back and still no call. I absolutely despise doing business with such businesses. This location has not been a good experience for me and the customer service is not great at all. I would NOT recommend this location to anyone! My experience with this location has me seriously considering canceling my membership with Massage Envy as a whole. While the initial atmosphere and decor appears to be nice and relaxing; the customer service of the front desk as well as therapist are less than stellar. AVOID THIS LOCATION! read more
