Worst policies ever. I definitely do not recommend. I had an emergency and they charged me. I also canceled a previous appointment well before the 24 hour rule that was apparently never canceled. Although the massage techs are professional, and the establishment is clean, the customer service is unreliable in the event of an emergency or simply to cancel. They make it impossible to cancel, have no notes or internal communication. My reason for canceling was that my favorite Therapist is no longer there, and appointment availability was not great. The terrible inefficiency at processing my cancellation is what I am writing about. I've been requesting to cancel since August, they refused to send me the paperwork, then sent me the paperwork in a format that was not legible, then delayed processing it. Eventually, I had my credit card company deal with it, yet they still continue calling me, asking me to reinstate my membership. Each person I speak to sounds completely lost and confused and not understanding why I would be frustrated. I had a wonderful experience at Massage Envy. It seems like this place has some good and bad masseuses so it would be worth specifically requesting someone. My gf visiting the same time as me and had a subpar experience with her masseuse, Jessica. Anthony Lawson was my masseuse, and he was fantastic. From the get go, Anthony made me feel like my time was valued. He was ready to start as soon as I was undressed, there was no waiting on my part. This was my first visit with him, so as he warmed up my body, he went over where in particular I was tight, and where I did not want to be touched. We went over pressure levels, and he met my expectation perfectly. It was a very professional consultation. Keep in mind, this whole time he was still hands on, making the most of our hour. I have gotten dozens of massages over the years but this was my first time at massage envy. Anthony did not follow a preset script during his massage, he truly listened to my body and adapted his moves accordingly. At first I was disappointed in the amount of time spent on my neck but then I realized, because I specifically mentioned strong neck tightness, Anthony included my neck while doing back, shoulder, arms, and hand. It was a completely organic experience. I became totally relaxed because I trusted Anthony's process. He worked hard, maximized my massage time, and helped release every knot, from big to small, on my back, neck, and shoulders. The hot towel on the feet during the foot massage portion was a pleasant touch. All in all, Anthony is a compassionate masseuse who is great at his job. I'm very disappointed in this location. I had many massages and facials canceled on me. However when I had to last minute cancel for getting sick I get charged. I tried to freeze my account and got charged monthly and had to call and explain it each month. Finally I decided to cancel my membership in March and I am still getting a charge each month. Empty promises and a headache every month for a year. I do not even want to go and redeem my leftover massage credits. It seems each time I make an appointment it gets canceled. As soon as I mentioned deep tissue, the receptionist said "I have someone who is great In that area, his name is Isaiah"! My first thought was hm I've never had a male masseur, but trusted I was being led into the right direction. The day of .. Isaiah greeted me, he made me feel really comfortable and he was extremely knowledgeable. He pin-pointed a lot of things in the area where I was injured and he really worked on that area w care. He literally rubbed the pain and stress away! I was so happy to tip him more than 20%. I recommend this location if you find the right therapist. The prenatal massages are sub par, go elsewhere if you want a therapist with true prenatal experience. I highly recommend Region! She's the best therapist this location has. She's experienced, professional, and listens to what you need. The drop in star is for the front desk staff and their more recent fanfare. I had been going in for weekly visits and each time the woman would ask me if anything clerical changed. Guests just want to sit in peace before a massage and don't want to be bombarded with questions while you update the system. The voicemails she left were always 45 seconds of scripted and monotone information. Each time she left them, she said the same thing about how I scheduled a "90 minute session with 80 minutes hands on time". We get it, you don't offer a full 60 or 90 minute session and you're covering your bases, but really? Everytime? You could tell in her voice and tone that she had this memorized and was leaving the message on autopilot. SO REDUNDANT. Get to the point or get a text messaging service that allows you to confirm via text. They seem to be on board with technology, getting ipads for sessions, and increasing membership prices because of it, but yet they're communication is so 1990. Had a 90 minute massage scheduled for both my husband and myself since we were looking for a place to become members. So our massages were way over $300..not cheap. I originally went the year before and the service was amazing. This time around it was barely good. I scheduled our massages days before was very specific on what we wanted and needed. Even bought add ons for both massages. Well the day of the massage when I get there while I am laying on the table the guy asks me what I need. So I tell him that I had requested a deep tissue massage with the add ons. He says "oh no I dont do that" if I canceled I got charged anyway. So I figured how bad can it be. Well it was bad. It was basically like paying someone to simply rub oil on you for 90 min. When the session was done. I tell receptionist that it was not good. She gives me a $10 coupon as if that makes up for the $ I basically spent for poor service. After my husband comes out. I noticed he did not look happy. He told me he didn't want a membership there that the person that was assigned to him was so bad. She told him she couldn't do any of the massages he requested or even add a little pressure. So we left without getting a membership. Afterwards I got a survey. I answered it honestly. And got an email from the manager who promised a response etc. Guess what a week later and still no response. No sorry or anything. I have heard other people complain about this place. I was the recipient of a gift card that was won at a work event just prior to the pandemic in December 2019 that was purchased at this location. I just finally got around to making it in for my massage after the parlors reopened. After my massage I presented my gift card to another location closer to my home and was told the gift card was never funded. This location proceeded to charge my card for the massage while we figured out what happened. Upon calling the Piscataway location, I was told that I might need to find a copy of the CC bill showing the payment made for the gift card which to me was insane as it was bought by my manager for a work event and massage envy implied that we were lying and that my manager would raffle off an empty card. I told them this was their error and they needed to fix it. I gave them a date range and the last four numbers of the card used by my manager and about 2 days later got a call back saying they figured out what happened, when they sold the card they double funded someone elses gift card and didn't load any money to mine. So they held my money on my credit card for the massage for over a week before the situation could be figured out with the gift card. Even though it was their error, the Piscataway location never even offered an appology for what happend, just simply and explaination as to what happend, but no remorse for it. What was supposed to be a relaxing experience turned into quite a headache. Man this franchise sucks. They tell you you're paying for a 60 minute massage and they take a total 10 minutes off for undressing and redressing. My masseuse even shorted me. My appointment was 9:00, we took a few minutes to fill out paperwork, they then told me that it's a 50 minute massage. I went in, we spoke a bit about any issues, she left so I could undress, came back a few minutes later. When the massage was over, the clock said 9:50. The two employees working there clearly just wanted their Wednesday evening shift to end. I called beforehand asking if there was an opening for a 90 minute massage, and they said no, only "60." Emphasis on quotation marks. This being the last appointment of the day, of course there's room for the time I requested. Furthermore, while her technique was good, her distribution of attention to sections of the body was very, very unbalanced. I understand I could have made requests on what to focus on, but her default mode tells you a lot about the lack of pride she takes in her work. Granted, she was very warm in manner, in contrast to the employee at the front desk, who did the "MAY I ASK WHY???" thing when I declined a membership. There's a "wellness report" at the end, a little form with checkboxes to signify issues the therapist found, such as knots (DUH!) as if this would justify the cost. Truly the McDonalds of spas. The franchise even has well designed charts telling you how much to tip. This is a prime example of the bad side capitalist culture rearing its hideous mug. The place can burn the to the ground. (But after all is said and done, my body feels nice, even if the service is disappointing. This business is just run very badly for the price customers pay. Not worth it.) On a lighter note, if you're like me and like to get massages without appointments (hehe, sorry service people, can't plan stress), go to Relax Magic inside Woodbridge Shopping Center. Update (8/2018): Knocking down a star because of an average at best prenatal massage I recently received. It wasn't even the full 50/60min massage (as they already knock 10min off to undress and such) and it was performed extremely slow. Not like relaxing massage slow...just slow and not effective. I received prenatal massages during my first pregnancy at a different place and after this experience, I will get another massage at that place instead of ME. While the massage therapist was nice, I didn't feel like I got my money's worth ($106 and change). I was also only put on one side despite both of my sides being comfortable to lay on. So I left with a more relaxed left half of my back. I would have rather went for a chair massage at Bridgewater Mall (side note: they are very good!). Lastly, I wish massage therapists would start off not talking because it wouldn't make me feel obligated to carry on conversation when trying to truly relax...let the client lead a conversation so that way you know if they want to be chatty. I received a generous gift card for my birthday and after researching a few locations, I chose Piscataway based on Magdy's reviews. I run and lift 6-7 days a week and I was in need of a deep tissue massage. I scheduled a 90min massage which is really 80min due to paperwork/tablet work. Magdy asked what areas I wanted him to focus on which he did but also worked on my complete body...head to feet. While parts of the massage border on painful versus much needed work, he went between "light" and firmer so it wasn't constant uncomfortableness. My calves, forearms, and biceps were especially sensitive but after 2-3 days, they felt much more better and less tense. He also did stretching with me which was appreciated because I am guilty of not doing enough of it. I wouldn't say the massage was relaxing but I also never think deep tissue massages are relaxing because of the type of massage it is. It's going to be uncomfortable, especially when you're an athlete that undoubtedly has knots/areas that need focus on. I received the introductory rate which only cost just under $100 for the 90min massage which I thought was great for the high quality of service provided. If you're looking for a therapist that understands an athletes' needs, I would recommend Magdy as he also informed me he was an athlete for years and has been a massage therapist for 20 years. So, I've been a member of ME for about 8 years and have went to locations in PA, NJ, NC and IL as I've moved from state to state. This has to be my least favorite location. The front desk staff are snotty when I call to make an appointment. I tried about 5 different therapists here and only liked one. Of the others: one smelled so badly of cigarettes that I almost gagged whenever he breathed on me. Another didn't stop chatting during the whole session and another one insisted on taking 5 minutes of time at the beginning by chatting in the room before I could undress and then left 10 minutes early. I won't be coming back to this location. Luckily I am centrally located and there are 2 other franchises close by where I have a much more enjoyable experience. UPDATE: So, the manager of this location called to discuss my comments, which is good because it shows she takes customer feedback seriously. She went over my comments and confirmed that one of them was not applicable to her location because the individual I described never worked there so it had to be one of the other local franchises. As a result, I deleted that portion of the review. She offered to cover an hour session if I came back to one of the locations that she manages. From the front desk to the manager to the great staff. This team is great! I regularly request Magdy as my massage therapist. He is a dedicated and professional therapist who asks a lot of questions before startingt to be sure he provides what is right for each person. I always have stress in my upper back and I always feel relaxed and amazing when I leave. He uses a combination of Swedish and sports therapy and is sure to monitor the pressure use to ensure I am comfortable. Just a follow-up of my experience with Mandy: I ran my first half-marathon on Mar 25 and saw Magdy on March 30. Once again, an EXCELLENT massage. His sports massages really help work out the last bit of soreness in my hamstrings, calves and feet. He adjusted the pressure at various points from medium to deep and help me stretch out the hips and IT Band to gain back flexibility. I am disappointed with my experience with my massage therapist. I guess I was looking for a quiet relaxing massage but I ended up with a "talker" and a "know it all". Respectfully she Is experienced and knowledgeable but I didnt need to hear a lecture on my massage time. My massage was quiet for the last ten minutes when she didn't give me unsolicited advice and lecture. I am there to relax not answer trivia questions about the endocrine system, really? There is a sense of unhappiness from this therapist and if you want your customers to return, you need to screen and evaluate your therapists further and take surveys from your customers. This massage envy is horrible. I scheduled an appointment for this location a few weeks ago for 2pm Wednesday 1/16. When I arrived I was informed that my masseuse had quit earlier that day. I was annoyed because nobody called me to tell me that. The front desk girl Renee, who was very nasty, said that she told a family member of mine (who also works that location, but wasn't working at the time) to tell me. I explained to Renee that this wasn't my relatives' job to do. That's not how you conduct business. What if I wanted to schedule another appointment? How would she do that since she wasn't even at work? Ridiculous. As a former massage envy employee from 2 different locations, I know for sure this way of contacting the customer does not exist. Then she tried to change her story and say that she had been calling me all day, and that just wasn't true. I then asked if there was another masseuse available for my appointment time and she said no. She didn't offer any other options. I asked for her manager and she said she wasn't there. Then she told me to "step out" because she thought I was being rude. I told her no, because I wasn't satisfied with her lack of solution. She then proceeds to threaten me with calling her manager. I suggested she should call her, and then call other locations to see if they can get me in and she had a huge attitude. She calls her manager and they finally figure out what location to send me and I go. This is unacceptable. Also, Renee had a stench of marijuana coming from her clothes, so that could explain her attitude and behavior. I recently moved to Piscataway NJ. I have been a massage envy member for the last three years. This is the WORST location I have encountered. I had one horrible massage from what seemed like an agry therapist. Even after I asked him to not put so much pressure on me he continued. I had two scheduled massages cancelled on the day of my appointment day. Today was the latest. The customer service lady that phoned me today was very rude and unaccommidating. She refused to provide me the name of the manager and said to me that the manager shows up when she wants to. There also seems to be a problem with therapist being uncommitted to their jobs. Everyone has unexpected problems but when you have paying customers you DON'T cancel. Massage Envy has a policy that customers are responsible for paying if they cancel on the day of the appointment. However, this location has no issue interrupting their client's schedule by cancelling their appointments. There definately seems to be a managerial problem at this location. 1. Unprofessional therapist, 2. rude customerservice representatives, 3. no same day substitutes if a therapist cancels. I rarely will write a review.
