THIS REVIEW is 5 stars...only because I'm posting about a SPECIFIC therapist, named KAT. The front desk / Massage Envy corporate policies are ridiculous and useless. If youy signed up for a membership ages prior at another location, this franchised location is unable to help you. "You need to do that at the location you signed up at"...regardless of the logistics for that. As such, I live hours from the closest Massage Envy location, and I cannot put my membership on hold. Anyways...long story long, the therapist Kat is really wonderful! She does a fantastic "firm" pressure that works out all the knots and tension while still also managing to make it relaxing (a rarity, IMO). If you're one to chat during a massage, she's also fun to talk to! If you prefer the house music, your own music on headphones, or to watch a show on your phone w/ headphones (guilty), she will do whatever is necessary to help you do this. Botton line: Kat, firm pressure, awesome. If by chance you sign up for a membership, hit me up, and I think you and I both get a bonus for your signing up that way. I recently visited Massage Envy as a Father's Day gift from my wife and family, and overall it was a very positive experience. My massage therapist, Ethelyn, was outstanding. She was clearly experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled at addressing specific areas of tension while still providing a relaxing experience. I went in hoping to unwind, and the 90-minute full-body massage was exactly what I needed. I left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and much better than when I arrived. The staff was friendly and professional, and the facility was clean and welcoming. My only criticism--and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5--was the membership sales process. I was approached about the membership both before and after my service. To be fair, they were transparent about the terms and clearly disclosed that it was a 12-month commitment. However, being presented with a sales pitch multiple times took away slightly from what was otherwise a relaxing experience. Personally, when I'm visiting for a massage, I'd prefer to focus on relaxation and consider membership options later through a follow-up email or call. That said, this feedback is directed more at the sales process than the employees themselves. Ethelyn was fantastic, and the quality of the massage exceeded my expectations. It's sad that some of the negative reviews are quite old since it is likely management has changed and some of the therapists are no longer with this location. I had a facial with Anna who is pleasant, informative and gave me one of the best facials I've ever had. More recently Joey was my massage therapist and it was truly wonderful. Terrible experience I never received my free facial I never received my free massage. Completed training for a position I never worked or was compensated for was very frustrating and gaslighting. This other employee that I brought to the company has left as well Brought three extra employees as well. Worst experience of my life from coworkers to management it was not relaxing not an experience I would recommend for anybody. My mother has not used their services in over 3 years! I have been called barely an hour before my appointment to cancel it for the 4th time now. It is the same masseuse that calls out every time. I have no choice but to go to her because all the other females on weekends that are available only do light to medium pressure and i need firm. I am never able to get an appointment on the weekend or after work hours on the weekdays(6pm). I have back issues and rely on these appointments so to finally find a weekend that works and wait 2 weeks for it just to get cancelled is so frustrating. I pay my bill on time but can't even get a massage? I have been coming here for over a year and it's just gotten SO much worse with time. Went in last night to purchase a Jan Marini product which cost $120. I handed the lady $100 bill and she looked at me with disgust and immediately I felt I was being racially profiled. she then told me they don't accept bills over $50 which is fine so I told her they had sold me a product that will be expiring very soon if i could return it ... 1. I went back home to grab smaller bills, 20s.. came back with the old product with the receipt . 2. I grabbed a Jan Marini hila 3-D face cream which cost $120 3. The girl then tells me I can't return the old product until a manager is there which is fine again. 4. I purchased the Jan Marini product, took my old product with me and went home. 5. I got a phone call today did not answer. Thankfully they left me a voicemail which I can now prove what the lady said to me. 6. I have both receipts for each product and I have the box . 8. so she is claiming that I left with a product and did not pay. 9. I am extremely offended. **This review is for a facial.** I've been to Massage Envy a handful of times for massages, but decided to try a facial recently. Sad to say, I will not be returning for this service in the future. I was very disappointed in my experience and feel it was not worth the money I paid. The good: I made a same-day appointment for a facial. Very nice to get in quickly, but perhaps I should've known the quality would be poor since their schedule was wide open. If I had to rate the guy who gave me the facial, he would get 4/5 stars. He was new to Massage Envy, but very personable and made me feel comfortable. He was a nice guy but the actual facial was lackluster. I'm sure he was just following Massage Envy procedures, so I can't put the blame on him. The bad: the facial did not involve steam to open my pores or any extraction of blemishes/blackheads. All the aesthetician did was apply various creams and masks to my face. I'm happy to keep my $60 and do that myself, thank you very much. Do NOT join Massage Envy unless you want to endure terrible customer service, therapists who do not show up often, lack of proper staffing for deep tissue work, and front-desk staff who appear completely incompetent. Today my massage therapist Cocell S. called in sick or was a no-show. This is 2 of the last 3 times I booked an appointment with Cocell that she called in sick. Massage Envy at Scottsdale Road & Thomas did not notify me by phone that the appointment was cancelled. I lost valuable time traveling to/from the location only to be told "sorry - our new gal responsible for calling you screwed up." My wife also had an appointment today at 2:00 PM with Cocell. Massage Envy likewise did not notify my wife that Cocell did not show up for work. Next, last time I had an appointment with Cocell, she blabbered for half the session about how she has no car, has a hard time getting to work, how she is in a nasty custody battle with her child's father, and was asking me for legal advice (I am an attorney). The whole episode was very uncomfortable, off-putting and getto/unprofessional. To operate this business with any semblance of professionalism and competence, this Massage Envy location MUST get better, more reliable massage therapists and MUST have therapists on-call to fill in for clients appointments when the originally-scheduled therapist does not show up for work. And certainly clients should be notified by phone when their appointment has been cancelled due to a therapist no-showing for work. This truly is basic business common-sense. My boyfriend pays for our memberships for this location. Honestly, if you want to use Massage Envy go to the Tempe Marketplace location. The first few months were great. After the 3rd month they kept cancelling all of our appointments. In about January this year (2019) we drove to the location and waited about 20 to 30 minutes past our appointment time before a staff member approached us and told us out therapists had quit or not shown up for their shifts. This was the first time they had cancelled and we said okay and rescheduled for the next day. That night we received a call that one of the therapists had been in an accident and they had to cancel again but would try to get us in the next day but at a later time. They rescheduled us for the next day, but later in the day. When we arrived, we asked the manager if the therapist was okay from his car accident. The manager said the therapist hadn't been in an accident but had quit. Whoever we spoke to lied to us, instead of being honest about the situation. I will be honest and say that we did cancel 2 appointments, but one was because I got influenza type A and B at the same time, and my boyfriend had to have emergency surgery. Besides those 2, they have cancelled EVERY single appointment we have made (I believe about 6 appointments at this point). They offer us an extra credit but when we ask to use it no one can ever find the credit, and they keep cancelling so we can never go in and use them anyways. read more

Shadiness happened with a gift card I've had for a while now. Went to FINALLY use it, called to check balance, and was told it was used a couple weeks ago...WTF! NEVER been to this location... The manager follow up left a voice mail saying there is nothing they can do. I'm sure there are records, who paid with what, receipts, book keepings of WHO used (STOLE) the gift card numbers as it is a transaction. I've had this physical card in my gift card box, so shows they must have accepted someone with numbersuse it) and should have not been redeemed per their fine print, yet they will honor that that aren't liable per their fine print. I'm really put off by their pushy sales tactics. Very small venue for a M.E, cool temp, smells nice and there's water and tea in the inside waiting area. Didn't listen to my questions or concerns at all, just sped through their pitch to try to get a sign-up. I arrived early and filled out my forms with plenty of time, but I didn't start my session for 6 min or so and it ended 6 min or so early... I paid for 60 minutes, not 48? Edit: I asked the staff specifically "do you use the 5 50 5 rule? Or is it really 60min hands on?" The staff said "it is really 60min and if I come in early I can get my full time by doing the paperwork before my session". I was done with my paperwork well before my session. This is the only reason I'm disgruntled. At the price of $95 (reg.) a hour that's highway robbery. Massage was ok, nothing crazy. Located on the southwest corner by the street, dangerous parking lot so drive slow. On a side note, their desk staff Ian is the nicest service member I've come across in a long time but I didn't get checked out by him. I wanted to believe in Massage Envy again because how pleasant Ian was but the older blonde lady with no name-tag on dashed my hopes of that. Don't recommend on how uncomfortable you'll feel alone. The worst experience and customer service. Booked a massage one week in advance, the day before they call and tell me the person assigned to me no longer works there. Well than take them out of the system.... They reschedule for an hour early than I wanted but was happy I was able to keep the appointment. The day of the appointment 4 hours before the appointment they call and tell me that that have to cancel my appointment that the therapist called in sick. No offer to reschedule, no one available, no offer to make things right. I asked what are you going to do for me for all these cancellations. She puts me on hold comes back and says. I talked to my manager and we can cancel your appointment. Really..... how dumb are you? The right thing to do would have been to offer a hot stone therapy or aromatherapy add on service which is only $15 with very little actual cost to them if I rebooked a massage for another date. This isn't rocket science. Stop treating your customers like crap. Learn or train your people on customer service skills. I will never visit this location again. Manager and front desk person both deserve to be fired, even when help is tough to get, keeping this kind of help makes it worse. read more

Absolutely terrible. They do not take card on your phone and charge you even though you have credits on your account. Anyone who is expecting to use your credits for any extra services, make sure you bring atleast an extra hundred to do so. I've been a member of massage envy for over two years and lately the service has been horrible where it's left me no choice but to cancel my membership. I had an appointment scheduled with Shiva on Saturday and realized i could not make it and called the Monday before to cancel the appointment. All was well until i saw a $68 charge on my card. I called the Thomas location and the young lady had said there were no notes regarding my cancellation and then told me there were notes saying an individual had called and left me a message to remind me of my Appointment. I never received a call or message nor was i expecting one because i had called earlier in the week to cancel. I called multiple times afterwards to speak to a manager regarding these charges and a couple receptionists have left a message as a manager was never available. I ended up getting an email address of a manager in which i emailed him multiple times and he has yet to respond or call me back. I usually don't leave negative reviews, but Ignoring customers is POOR customer service. Also - if a customer asks to speak to a manager, it's never a good idea to say "no". I always give gift certificates as gifts. For holidays. Hiwever, I should have omitted this location when I gave them out. Two of my employees booked here and said it was the worst customer service they received. They waited for their appointments then to be told they had to reschedule. They spoke to the 'mgr' naned Nichole and they said she was rude, lacked any customer service skills, seemed extremely defensive and actually said, "I'm done with people like you!" I normally have a good experience at massage envy but this location was not good. My therapist left me on my stomach the whole time and didn't flip me over which left me dizzy, with a sore chest and a headache. When I mentioned this to the person at the front they acted like it was my fault that I didn't ask her to flip me. I have had over 50 massages in my life and never once have I had to ask them to flip me over. I am unaware of the time during the massage and didn't know we were at the end of the session. My fiancé and I came for 90 minute massages on Saturday last week and, unfortunately, the entire experience was off putting. The only and only bright spot was the customer service gentlemen, Dakota, who scheduled our appointment and greeted us when we came. Upon filling of the new patient paperwork, I was very clear to document how I like my massages. I have extremely tight back muscles that need palm work before finger work so as I don't flinch and jump off the table. This was actually documented several places on the paperwork. Additionally, I stated (both in writing and verbally to the therapist) that I did not want my arms worked on- just back, glutes, and legs as I'm training for a marathon. Furthermore, I was very clear (both in writing and verbally) that I had a strained left hamstring. Finally, I was very clear, in fact underlining it in the paperwork, to go VERY SLOWLY or I will jump. When Antone (spelling?) and his co-work Merrietta came to the quiet room to collect us and bring us back to the room. Again, I communicated everything to Antone that I had written on the paperwork- especially the go slow part. Beginning with the massage, he utilized deep and quick movements which only frustrated me because I was left jumping all over- especially when he used an elbow on my left hamstring before even applying lotion to anywhere on my body. As the massage progressed, I had to ASK HIM to go deeper at least 10x- I lost count at 12- and he never checked in with pressure throughout. Plus, his movements were very disconnected, constantly taking hands off my body, sitting on the stool and not standing throughout my back work (probably the reason the pressure was so poor,) and going WAY TOO fast for me to even enjoy it. Finally, realizing that he isn't a good therapist and worked on my arms, which I asked not to have done- twice, failed to work on my glutes which I wrote "PLEASE!" on the a paperwork, I just asked him to spend the rest of the time on my legs. Again, knowing that time was running out because he didn't properly manage it, I realize I'm not even going to get my neck worked on, but whatever, my legs were killing me. Antone then completed both legs AND WENT BACK TO MY LEFT HAMSTRING for another seven minutes- I watched the clock because I'm pissed at this point- again delaying time that I requested on my legs. Then with 5 minutes left (or 2.5 minutes a side) he worked on my quads and shins (out of NINETY MINUTES!!!) My fiancé also had a terrible massage by Merrietta! He too had to ask for pressure adjustments multiple times which was also futile. He gave up and just stared at the ceiling. At the end of it, when they both left the room, instantaneously we look at each other and stated: "Well that was horrible." We went out to the desk to check out and I informed the lady how terrible it was, clearly Antone didn't read he chart, or he ignored, either way it wasn't acceptable, and that we were very unhappy with our massages. The lady (didn't get her name because she didn't introduce herself nor wearing a name badge,) looked dumbfounded and went to talk with whom I presume was the manager. I see the receptionist go back and speak with a blonde who is working on a computer. This "manager" didn't even come out and greet us, apologize for the inconvenience, or even get off her ass (sorry, for the language, but she doesn't deserve to have that title if she's too busy playing on a computer to even greet the paying customers.) This "manager," told he receptionist they would only charge me (not my fiancé) for an hour instead of the 90 minute. Really? Overall, this place is pathetic in terms of customer service, professionalism, integrity, and clearly, reading comprehension. I would NEVER recommend this place, to anyone, ever. Absolute worst experience. I'm not the person to write reviews but this is was such a terrible service that it deserves one. I got to massage envy 20 minutes prior to my facial appointment which was set for 3pm. They took me to the "relaxation room" and I was there until 3:12. The esthetician (Homa) didn't get started until 3:15 or so. The facial was completed at 3:49. It was literally 34 minutes and I paid 65 dollars. When I told them about it they just said that it was 15 minutes hands on and the rest is talking about skin care! I'd understand if the facial lasted 50-55 minutes but it took 34 minutes! Worst service. I saw other bad reviews about this place but I didn't believe it. I'm currently outside of massage envy writing this review. Worst experience! read more

I'd like to start off by saying this is a great location. The staff is very polite and friendly. I have been a member for about a year now. I've had their wonderful massages. I also had preferred male massage therapists up until recently. A staff member recommended Shiva. She is excellent. Thorough, strong, great personality, Shiva is a great massage therapist. I also highly recommend getting a chemical peel, facial or microdermabrasion by Chase. He is very gentle, knowledgeable about procedures as well as products he uses while giving you the best personal care. He also has a wonderful personality and I look forward to seeing him. Management is responsive and handled my return of a product that my skin had a reaction to with no issues at all. All around a pleasant experience for me. Thank you for your services!! read more

Jeremy S. Pudney is hands down one of the best therapists I have seen in a long time!!!!!! In general I'm not very impressed with the caliber of therapists at any of their locations. It takes a while to find a really good one but I am so unbelievably thankful to have found him!! I suffer from severe back and neck issues and it takes a truly knowledgeable & experienced therapist to relieve all my tension. He knows how to find and focus on specific areas where my issues are. I hope Massage Envy recognizes what an asset they have on their team and gives this guy a raise because his quality and care has definitely raised the bar for your entire company. read more

Went in w/o an appointment and the said they could fit in a 30 minute back massage. So i was happy that they could take a walk in. Ended up sitting in the waiting area for about 30 minutes or so. Come to find out they forgot about me and booked another massage for the massage therapist. The manager or owner then comes out and said "I didn't say anything" while i was waiting. Like its my responsibility to flag down employees to find my massage therapist... very odd. He did offer me a free facial and food scrub.. cool i guess, not my thing. I love this place! I signed up to get monthly massages and facials! I would never think to come here for facials but my sister in law who has flawless skin recommended it to me and they are top notch! the massage therapist I use is AMAZING unfortunately I cannot remember her name ever but gosh I love her - she does excellent deep tissue massages! I always tip extra because the price for a monthly massage and facial is SO much less than I would be paying somewhere else I want to make sure amazing employees want to stay :) read more

ok. as far as the massages go, they are hit and miss. Sometimes they give the perfect amount of pressure and sometimes they don't. Why I'm writing this review is that I have tried for the past 6 months to cancel my services with them. I've asked to have my account frozen and that didn't happen the two times I asked and I continued to get charged. It finally got frozen and since then I've been started to get charged again. So I contacted them. Zeroed out my balance and signed the form to cancel and once again I got charged. This company is a complete scam and you will continue to get charged because they will forever be making up excuses to not refund your money or cancel your membership because of some agreement in the contract you originally signed. So the only thing you can do at this point is cancel your credit or debit card so they can't charge you again. Their management is terrible and respond and say they will fix things and nothing ever gets fixed! So do yourself a favor and don't ever sign up with Massage Envy! read more

While I appreciated how easy it was to get on the schedule, and it seems like they have their operations together, I was disappointed with the quality of service provided to me in my hour massage. Furthermore, after completing a survey about my massage, I was asked if I wanted to be contacted by a manager. I stated yes, they did not contact me. The front desk attendant rushed through her standard script as quickly as possible. My massage therapist asked me what brought me, I told her I was there solely for my lower back tension and pain. 15 minutes into her massaging my right arm, I asked if she could give my lower back some more attention. Instead, she spent the next 20 minutes digging her elbow into my butt cheek, telling me that would loosen my lower back. While I understand that a loose hip flexor can lead to better mobility in the lower back, it does nothing for the several knots that I still have down there.
