This location of Massage Envy is very clean and has a friendly staff- I went in recently as I had some major pain in my neck and shoulders. Dawn was my masseuse and she was absolutely excellent. My massage was not really relaxing, but that wasn't what I was looking for this time. She really worked my neck and shoulders, and was willing to focus on upper body for my entire massage time. My neck and shoulders felt much better and I was glad that I went. Now for my negative- as other reviewers have mentioned- Massage Envy has a monthly program they want you to sign up for- and it is a hard sell. I basically had to refuse four times before they would let me pay and leave. I know the young lady doing the selling didn't really want to be doing it, so I don't fault her- but after all of the other reviews I read I was not about to sign up for that monthly program- plus I don't go monthly for massages anyway. I would definitely come back here to see Dawn again, but will probably stick with my regular place if possible in the future. read more

CarrieAnn was my therapist today and she was great. Got out some knots and released a lot of tension in my shoulders while still making the massage relaxing. I've been coming to this location for seven years and have always had a great experience. Today (14 Feb) I needed to reschedule my massage because I came down with food poisoning and I asked if I could reschedule for tomorrow or Friday. The girl at the front desk explained they'd be taking two credits from my account if I rescheduled because it was the same day. This is pretty standard practice, but when something happens out of someone's control, it's good Customer Service to just waive the penalty. So I asked to speak with a manager that might be able to help. The female manager who was working at 2 PM on 14 February, was super rude about it and also implied that I was lying and just trying to get out of my appointment. I explained that I was trying to save the business a bigger headache and potentially much higher cost (of having to cancel appointments and hire cleaning crews, etc.) if I had an accident in the room or in the hallway trying to get to the bathroom. They wouldn't budge, so I came in anyway. I'm a mother of four and I just lost my job so I can't throw away $150 worth of credits. I brought baby wipes and extra clothes with me and when I checked in, I asked them if there was a trashcan with a bag in it inside the room just in case and they said yes (and they knew exactly why I was asking). When I got in there, the trashcan was very small, maybe 4 inches diameter and 8 inches tall so I asked if they had anything bigger and my massage therapist said no. By the way, when I used the bathroom after my appointment, there was a huge trashcan in there that she could've gotten. Thank goodness there wasn't an accident, but that manager put this business and the Massage Envy brand at much higher risk, and potentially higher cost then it would've cost to not take my two credits, and to just let me reschedule. Also, the massage therapist (MT) avoided the only two areas I asked her to work on. Now I have to pay for another one at a new place just to get my pain resolved . She also advertises herself as a "light to medium pressure" and when I asked her to go medium, she says "this is as hard as I go." She spent 2/3 of the appointment doing my upper back and it's almost raw because she stayed in that same area because she was was avoiding the two areas I asked her to do which was my neck and my lower back. She was also fairly rude, and even though I remained polite the entire time and gave no indication of being unhappy about anything, when I checked out, the front desk, for the first time in seven years, did not ask me if I wanted to leave gratuity, which tells me that I got a crappy massage because the MT was already assuming I wasn't going to leave a tip because they had already talked about me before I came in based on my phone call with the manager. They also didn't give me any water which has never happened in my 21 years of getting massages, because it's important to flush out the toxins that are released by the massage. I would give this place negative stars for the experience I had today, not including being made to feel very embarrassed about my condition, and the rudeness I got from the MT and the manager. I have never gone through the trouble of leaving a review for a place where I've had a bad experience, but this is a business and a brand that I have trusted with myself and my family for the past seven years, and I am very disappointed. The management and trickle down customer service of the people working under that manager have tainted This franchise in this brand and lost three customers from my family. PS: since I'm taking the time to write this review, I might as well include something else that I think bothers a lot of people. The MT I saw has a really slimy, borderline unethical way of trying to trick people to get more appointments from them. I've had this person three times before, and they do this every time and it's really uncomfortable, but I've let it go because the rest of the experience was great. I hear them doing it to every patient they walk out after a massage, which is what makes it even worse because they pretend to specialize this comment for every client they see, but they don't remember if they've had you before, so no matter what you're in there for, this person always says some very general piece of advice, followed by "I put you down for two weeks from now" like they're some kind of doctor. They say that to every single patient that I have seen them walk out, and to me the three previous times I've had them. Who can afford to come every two weeks? And you "put them down"? What does that even mean? Did you make them an appointment? I don't know if I can explain why that bothers me so much, but it is the shadiest, most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced at massage parlor. read more

They are completely lying about my appointment and charging my credits. also Manager Maria hang up the phone on my twice plus told me that I am a liar. this is how you talk to your customer? I used to get messages at a salon which is no longer in business.. :( I was leary about going to a "chain" company. I was very surprised with the level of professionalism. I went during these Covid times and they had everything perfect and in order with the protocols. Extremely clean. They offer aromatherapy if you want to add on. Last time I did the sugar scrub on my hands...it was a dream!! My massage therapist is Corrine. She is awesome. I signed up for the monthly membership. So glad I did, been going for 3 months now and just schedule with her! Sometimes if I want to chat during we do...if I don't we don't... she is really getting intune with my body.!! I have Fibromyalgia and gets aches all over... this has been one of the best therapies. I look for a forward every month. For Christmas I even bought my hubby and son massages! Very professional staff and a clean, modern facility. There are over 20 masseuses, which makes it fun to try new ones each month and find out your likes and dislikes of a massage. My husband and I joined the monthly massage club and look forward to our visits there. We upgrade to the 90 minute massage and it is extremely well worth it- I leave there feeling like a million bucks! The rooms are big, beds are comfortable and heated (if you don't want heat this can be removed- but I love it!) and soothing zen music. They carry over your massage if you don't use it so you are never wasting a massage or money. I highly recommend this business for a reasonably priced, incredibly relaxing massage and experience. read more

Booked a same day 1 1/2 hour massage at this location. Awesome that they could fit me in same day. I wanted a deep tissue with aromatherapy massage since I weight lift and really needed certain areas to get worked out. The receptionist I spoke with on the phone recommended a particular therapist and set me up with the appointment. The waiting area is small, but clean and nice. It has a small water display that helps with relaxation while you wait. The therapist was named Kim and she was very polite and nice. She asked me which areas specifically hurt and really needed attention and I let her know about why I was so sore and had knots. She advised me she would start on those areas and do the rest with the time left. At first I didn't think she was going to use enough pressure for my liking, but after a couple of minutes she really got to working at the knots in my upper back and I soon turned to mush. She worked on one really bad knot for quite awhile and commented about how bad it was. I was grateful that she was so attentive to the sore areas on my back and neck. The one thing I never liked about Massage Envy is the lotion they use. It gets tacky pretty quick. I also really don't like the ongoing sales pitch at every turn. I come from a very lengthy sales background and I can see it coming a mile away. If it weren't for the pushiness of the sales people I would give them 5 stars. All it takes is really REALLY great customer service for me to be wowed and sold.... not a used car salesman sales pitch All in all though I was so grateful for the attention to detail from the therapist, this location is clean and comfortable. The music is just the right volume and soothing. They have newer tables with nice heaters on them. I have only used Kim obviously, so I can't speak to how the other therapists are. AS LONG as you read the fine print and actually plan on using them, the membership is worth it in my opinion (also as long as you have a good therapist as well!). $60 bucks for an hour massage is a DEAL around this area. Plus the fact that they rollover and you can turn it into a 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour massage later down the road..... awesome. I'm considering it only for the sheer fact that I need the fascial release from all the tension and trigger points that come with bodybuilding. I signed up for ME's monthly massage membership at this location (South Elgin) in April. I went in understanding that I would only need about 4-6 sessions to loosen up my lower back stiffness. I was very skeptical about signing up for the membership as I had read some bad reviews on Massage Envy not allowing their customers out of the membership. That being said, i made sure to question the cancellation policy on my first visit. I was told i could cancel the membership anytime as long as I came into the location and signed a form, no fee, no questions asked etc. I had about 5 massages with Laura H (they were amazing!). On my last visit Laura said my lower back was a lot better and I agreed! I decided to cancel my membership that visit as I was feeling 100% again. When i approached the front desk to do so, I was told that Massage Envy DOES NOT ALLOW ANY MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATIONS and that this location's owner Mike allows for a cancellation with a $59.99 fee. I was shocked, as I had already done my due diligence before signing up and was told the opposite. I explained that this is not what I was told when I signed up and was engaged in a demeaning confrontation with 2 of the managers on staff. One of the managers had an extremely confrontational demeanor about her when she came out to talk to me, when I told her this she ignored it and said, "I am not a confrontational person", then proceeded to raise her voice at me, tell me this was NOT what I was told and that there was no other way around it and I would have to pay the cancellation fee. Needless to say, I walked out. I was contacted the next day by the location owner, Mike. He was extremely apologetic and stated that this will never happen again and he had talked with the staff that I encountered that day. He agreed to cancel my membership without the assessed fee. When I called my husband upset about my encounter at the South Elgin location that day, he posted a rant Yelp review about how they treated me, etc. Turns out he posted it on the Algonquin Yelp page by mistake. The owner of the Algonquin Massage Envy reached out to him immediately to apologize. Even after my husband explained it was the wrong location, he offered us each a free massage at his location anytime we are in the area. That is the way customer service SHOULD work! Unfortunately I was not offered any complimentary services or credits, etc. from the South Elgin location. Although I appreciate the apology from the owner, I will not be back to this location.... read more

Always have received great service at this location. It seems that a lot of these grievances aired on Yelp are about the Corporate side of it - but this particular location has very good therapists. I am getting my first Facial on Monday so I will see if the Facial side is as good. read more

The massage itself is fine, however I must warn anybody thinking of signing up for their monthly massages. DO NOT SIGN UP! Read the fine print. The people who run this location are unwilling to work with you on anything related to your monthly account. I had to stop getting massages for a while due to medical reasons, and no one told me you could put your account on "Freeze" this way you can stop them taking monthly fees from you. I had built up several months of massage fees, you have no way of using them other than going twice a week yourself to use them. They are totally unwilling to let you use your monthly fees, that you pay every month as you want to. I couldn't give them to someone else without a $10 transfer fee, and only one per month. It's your money in the account, you should be able to use it how you see fit. I wanted some gift cards to give away, they wouldn't do that either. I would NOT recommend going to Massage Envy or getting involved with their monthly plans. I wasn't able to go for many months, so I have 11 massages in my account that I can't use or give them away - really ridiculous because you pay for them and they hold your money hostage. I wanted to freeze my account, I called to tell them to freeze it, they say they can't do it over the phone, I have to come in a fill out a Freeze form - I travel a lot and was out of town and didn't want another month of fees charges, of course they couldn't do anything because I couldn't come in a fill out the form in person. They wouldn't even email it, or fax it to me. This place is horrible to do business with. I would stay clear of this place! read more

i have been coming here for 7 years now. its been hard to really find someone i could stick with. but one lucky day, i got Cinde, whom ive seen ever since for the last 3 years regularly if not once a week, then every other week. the type of pressure she uses is firm but intuitive, so sometimes i need junk worked out but other areas need total relaxation. shes hard to get in with so that must be a good sign, it is by chance to get in if you don't pre book with her. having regular massage have literally made my life so much easier from mood control to pain and stiffness relief. she also does facials so i have booked a massage and facial (cinde has two licenses) combo together, now that is super nice. the front desk is usually very friendly, they have a hard job to do and have to follow a scripted thing handed to them from corporate but since i have a longstanding membership there, they are always great to me unless its someone who dosnt know me yet. the owner who is a man is very easy to talk to if i ever had a complaint, he has responded in kind. i think they know and are pretty acommodating to take care of their members who they see quite regularly. i know cinde will bend over backwards for a special scedule request if i need it, but then again i tip well and come in often enough so she should take care of the "A " listers. she has worked on some pretty famous rockstars and its kinda cool i get someone who worked on Beyonce to work on me. makes me feel pretty elite. they're pretty straightforward here in the business practice, they will treat you well if you respect them, there are times when ive seen some clients come who were pretty nutsy and i feel sorry for the poor therapist who has to deal with that. overall this place hasn't got alot of turnover therapists like other places. i have gotten massages all over the world, and my therapist has got to be one of the best. be sure to try the sugar foot scrub, lavender essential oil treatment, and fabulous murad facial. if your in pain, the deep muscle therapy with the hot towels is the bomb. no wait, the hot stone massage cinde does IS the BOMB! read more
