Booked and paid for a 90-minute massage, but due to delays the actual hands-on time was closer to 40 minutes. The therapist delayed start for whatever reason, and the session focused almost entirely on my shoulders--I had to ask for attention to my feet. The massage room floor was dirty with pieces of tissue paper, and during this visit and a previous one, someone opened the door while I was face down on the table, exposing my upper body. This was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. At checkout, after paying $210, I was repeatedly pressured to leave a tip after declining, and the front desk staff was rude. I'm sharing this so management can address timing, cleanliness, privacy, and customer service. read more

I have been a monthly customer for quite some time however, I find the convenience of getting a massage unsatisfactory. I pay every month on time but, can never choose my dates for a massage, It has to be chosen for me. I also have concerns with employees answering the phone at this location. I've called numerous times and get they placed in hold for more than 20 Minutes with no regards for my time. I have to hang up and call back. I feel like once I'm locked into a contract, they treat you like garbage because their getting your payment regardless . Whenever this contract ends, I would rather pay the higher amount so that I will have the flexibility of choosing where I spend my money based off of the customer service provided. Had 2 appointments today one for a facial and then a couples massage. I was told that In order for my husband to receive a massage that I will have to transfer it to him . Which I was never told that and then she said it's a $10 fee which I didn't know either . So she proceed to do the transfer and I went to get my cash to pay And was told " I took care of it " so I'm thinking that due to no one explained the process that she didn't charge me " I come Home and check my account and see the $10 charge. My biggest issue is she didn't ask me how I wanted to pay the $10 which I was going to pay she decided to use my card that was on file . I say this she never asked me how I wanted to pay the fee . She took it upon herself and charged my card . !!! What if she had overdrawn my account . That's not the way you do business. I literally had the money in my hand. I think that this is very unprofessional and I don't want to deal with businesses that operate like this. I am not in the assuming business I guess I'd be wrong if I dispute the charge ? After speaking with the manager Alissa, and being told I could exchange the bad product for good product. I drove 20 miles to Massage Envy only to be told once again that they couldn't do anything for me because now I don't have the original box. The receptionist had me talk to Alissa on the phone who is the manager. She said she didn't know that I did not have the box or she would have never told me she would exchange it. She then accused me of lying and using a different bottle when I asked why they couldn't use the box from the one I was exchanging with, her answer was I don't know if that is the original bottle you bought. I have never been so insulted in my life and I'm in my 50's in a Executive position with my company and pride myself on my integrity and a 25 year career in upper leadership. She showed no empathy in her tone or how she talked to me. She just seemed annoyed by me. It's unbelievable to me that they do not stand behind a 125.00 product, but Este Lauder, Sephora, Ulta, Macy's, Nordstrom, all stand behind theirs. I have canceled all my appointments and will no longer go this location, and if the corporate office does nothing I will be canceling my 13 year membership. I was going regularly using the same massage therapist.... until they told me what they SHOULD be tipped. I usually tip that amount but to be told that is what is expected was really shocking to me. I was always pleased with my service and always tipped accordingly but... They forget we are also paying a monthly fee for the service... It was just very rude and very distasteful. The massage therapists are great. This review is for the front office only. It would be a 5 for the therapists. I am 39 weeks pregnant so maybe a bit more critical than I normally would be but given how they advertise prenatal massages I do want to make other expectant mothers aware of the issues since when you are pregnant you just have a lower tolerance for the type of things I have experienced at this location and looking at other reviews I'm not alone in having these issues. I went in today for a prenatal massage and didn't have a mask since the one I had had one of the string break. The receptionist was very rude and told me I could go home and grab one. I asked if I could cancel or reschedule since I just scheduled it earlier this morning and she said yeah but you will be charged a cancellation fee. That fee would also be charged if I was late coming back after going home to grab a mask. Thankfully I found an old one in my car, but still they call themselves a medical facility and don't have any available despite requiring one. The La Padilla in the same complex has them even and they are just a restaurant . I even came out and the receptionist that gave the attitude had her mask half off talking on the phone to someone, but it's policy? This isn't the first time there has been just rude treatment from the front desk area. They send out an automated text when you have an appointment that you need to call when you get there to ensure you are good to go in, both times I have done so and get an impatient reply almost like why am I calling. I would also be wary of signing up for their monthly membership. I've been pressured both times and after overhearing various phone calls the receptionists have been on being argumentative both in tone and substance of what they were saying and witnessing an in person escalation my previous massage it seems they are pretty shady and difficult when you try to cancel the membership. The lady I overheard last time said it was her 4th time coming in to try to cancel and the receptionist didn't seem to care or try to help. The therapists are great, but the front office and corporate side seem to sour the experience for many. Once I've used up my remaining gift cards I will be going elsewhere since there are plenty of other options in the area especially at the prices they charge. read more

This location needs to get their crap together. They lose spots, book for the wrong appt Slots. I have been a member for about 2 years getting massages at least once a month. The most recent incident was the location cancelled due to the hurricane. No problem, I get that. I got a message yesterday afternoon from the manager saying they would now be open and I can have my appt back today. I could not call last night since it was late so i called this morning and the front desk clerk says the appt had been booked by someone else. Really? Then why call if you were just going to let someone else have that slot. This location has horrible Customer service so unless you are going for a specific therapist, if Ray far away. On a good note and the only reason I go Is for my therapist Chad. He is amazing and the only one thus far that can keep my back pain manageable. First time at massage envy. Kay wasn't shy in the least even though it was our first time together and me being 9 months pregnant. She put her hands right on me and knew exactly what I needed from the jump. She didn't talk much but when she did it was always about me, my life, my body, my comfort. I call that strictly professional! If there was anything wrong with her mood or life, I never would have known. She gave encouraging advice, great feedback, and her soothing voice made everything that much relaxing. If you haven't seen Kay yet, you really must. No, no, no! My husband paid for an hour and a half massage. The therapist spent 30 minutes telling me her horrifying life story (including) her mental break down and then gave me a 45 minute massage and even that was awful. Nothing was done the same on either side and it didn't seem like she was focused or properly trained. Asked for manager afterwards and told she was busy even tho I could see her sitting at her desk in the office. I asked for a review paper and was told that it would be emailed to me, never was. My husband had purchased a holiday gift package and I was told that one of the items (gift card or facial) had expired. Will never go there again. read more

First time getting a massage at this business. Ladies up front were friendly. Asked a lot of questions to help me pick the right masseuse. You first sit in a darkened room with large chairs and a tv with beach pictures on it. They had a wall fountain as well running. And you had cucumber water available to you. Honestly, it's a lot of water sounds(tv and fountain) that if you didn't have to go bathroom before, you do now. It filled up with people waiting. My gal was a few minutes late and another staffer came in to chat for a moment. She was nice, but I knew it was after my start time. Once I met Michelle, she asked a lot more questions to make my massage perfect. The room was warmer than I would have liked but she had a fan and turned it up for me(and her lol). She did a great job pinpointing my issues and worked on them. We also talked nutrition and exercise and overall I felt like she knew a lot about the human body and wanted her clients to get the best from her massage but also work with their own Drs about issues. My massage was exactly the way I like it and I came out truly relaxed and muscles were happy. They do offer water when you come out. I had a gift card that covered everything including tip. I had no idea it was a member situation. You can't just come back for another massage. I would have booked another if it weren't a member situation. Oh well. I can't commit financially to massages....so while I would love to go back, not sure when I will get to. read more

The therapist was obviously a smoker and didn't bother to wash the ashtray smell off before giving a massage. He also talked during the entire 60-minutes. Then as I go to pay, I get the 20-minute "hard sell" sales pitch of why I need to purchase a membership! This review is about a month overdue, but I am still going to tell you about how amazingly awesome this place is due to the staff. I am a 3 yr going on 4 year member. Due to life rearing its fickle head, I ended up having a lot more sessions piled up than I would like to admit. Things happen right? Well some other locations have policies and they are very staunch with the rules and some of the people (not all, but some) can even get downright rude about answering questions! I mean these are my prepaid for sessions. Anyway, life threw me a few curve balls and I did not get a chance to go use up my sessions as I should have so they piled up. I came to Va to visit my grandmother and called to find out if I could book some sessions while I was there and these glorious staff members did not give me a headache nor heartache about it! They were pleasant, understanding, booked my sessions, let me know how to prepare and gave me tips on how to properly hydrate since I was going to be visiting them back to back, made my appointments according to my schedule without a fuss or an issue and provided top notch therapists for each day of my visit. I was even able to bring my mom in so that she could get some much needed relaxation time. The entire experience was wonderful. It reminded me of why I became a member in the first place. Of course I verbally gave the staff my thanks of gratitude and showed my appreciation but they will never know how much they truly helped me out by allowing me to come several days in a row and not giving me a hard time about it. I could never say thank you enough. I was able to drastically lower the amount of sessions I now have and though I am still a bit over, I know that I could go and use those sessions with a few 1.5 -2 hour appointments without a second thought. I was gifted a massage as a birthday gift and one I was highly anticipating using! As a busy mom of two this massage was right on time and something I desperately needed. I arrived and was told I had to wait a little, which was fine gave me time to relax a little more. Well once I was finally called back and got undressed it was already 15 past my appointment time. So I'm thinking No biggie I'm sure she will just make note of that and still give me my full 90 min massage. Well to make a long story short, the lady giving me the massage talked the entire time after I told her I was trying to relax she just wouldn't shut up! Then she asked when did we start I told her and she still ended the massage early, not giving me my full massage. She did NOT provide the pressure I asked for and when I said something she referred me to someone else mid massage. Like that was going to help me at that moment. Already unsatisfied with my lack of relaxation or massage I go to pay and they can't use my gift card. They accuse me of already using it which I clearly had not. I had to call the person who gifted it to me, she then had to find the receipt which still wasn't enough for them. So they called the store where the gift card was purchased and had to figure out where they went wrong. The person who rung the gift card up wrote 180$ on the card and placed it in a envelop when come to find out it was only 80$. I get that was a mistake anyone could of made but the way they handled it was very poor customer service. I left in tears I was so upset. From that experience I will never visit another ME read more

Couldn't be more disgusted with this business that I have come to for a couple years after moving here. I even stayed patient as a club member continuing to pay the fee for facials through most of COVID when they didn't even take appts. I made an appt a couple weeks ago and got a call that they had to cancel due to the the esthetician's kids possibly having COVID. No problem. 2 weeks later I wake up sick the day of my appt, thinking I'm doing the right thing to not spread COVID since I'm sick I call and tell them I probably shouldn't come in incase I have COVID. I get told that I still have to pay. I tell Ashley that's ridiculous, I'm sick. She tells me that as the manager she has to ask Morgan the esthetician. Ashley comes back and says that Morgan wants paid so I have to pay for the appt. I tell her then I will just come in sick, I was trying to be courteous but if I have to pay then I will be there. Ashley states that I'm not allowed in the bldg sick so I can't come now but have to pay because Morgan wants paid. I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous this was. Ashley stated that they have had a lot of cancellations due to sickness so cancellations have to pay now. I asked her if she realized there was a sickness called COVID going around the country. I wanted a facial when they weren't seeing patients due to COVID but I understood the problem. In the end I had to pay 2 credits for Morgan to do nothing and I am cancelling my membership and will never return to Massage Envy, this is not how a business should be run. I am choosing to support a local spa for facials now!! I'm sure they will appreciate my business in times like these. read more

Okay, okay...I'm updating my 2 original reviews after a recent visit. I came in on Veterans Day (half off for Vets) and was very pleased to find many new changes have been made. In addition to being more clear about who the therapist would be over the phone (which I appreciate), they now have a concierge who comes and talks to you prior to the massage to discuss any ailments or areas of concerns you may have and to find out your preferences. This allows the customer to customize the massage, which they have never done in the past, and I really appreciate that because I prefer firm pressure on my shoulders (where I get knots) but light everywhere else. My therapist, Courtney, is the lead therapist there and she is single-handedly why I am now giving Massage Envy 5 stars. She. was. AMAZING. She had good energy, she took the time to discuss my back issues, she even did light stretching during the massage and give good feedback. (She also didn't try to talk to me the entire time, which I hate.) I will only be going to her in the future. And considering the competition in the area, Massage Envy truly ranks as the only 5 star establishment. P.S. Be sure to check-in on Yelp. I have been going to an independent massage therapy practice for some time. Recently I had a rather urgent need to see someone, and I could not get an appointment soon enough with my usual practice. I decided to give Massage Envy a shot since they were open so late. I have never had such mixed feelings about a place. For starters, my biggest complaint... my hour massage was maybe 40 minutes tops. I looked at the clock when my therapist came in the room, and I looked at the clock when she was done... and it was sadly right at 40 minutes. I had several deep tissue issues that needed to be addressed, and she only had time for those. I felt as though she was rushing to fix my two main issues and now I guess I understand why. However, I will say this... the quality of her work was really exceptional. I would like to tell Cassandra that you are truly top notch, and that if you worked outside of a chain, you would probably not only make more money, but not be as rushed to address your clients' needs. I felt as though she was truly sympathetic to my pain, and did what she could given the short time. She presented herself as very educated, and explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. I like to learn, and I appreciated this. Some other smaller complaints: was left in the "tranquility room" or whatever it was called for quite a while, only to have to listen to the giggling and chatting of the girls working in the reception area. Not exactly my idea of tranquil. They were young, and definitely did not give of the air of a very professional or restful atmosphere. The ladies might be better off employed at the mall. Though I did enjoy my short massage and therapist, I will NOT be going back. I would rather pay more and get an actual hour elsewhere. This was my first and last massage-in-a-box experience. I've been coming here a year now once a month as apart of the membership I was offered for Nurse's week. I'm glad it was offered and I kept the membership because it is worth it! Always greeted with warm genuine customer service, offered refreshing water before and after, with an all around feeling of relaxation inside. I've been serviced by Tabitha, who not only seems to find the kinks and knots but takes the time to break them up. To me that equates to knowledge and experience! Recently tried hot stone therapy for the first time with her and she did a fantastic job! I've been serviced by Yuri a few times and he too did great, especially with deep muscle tension release! Usual calm setting for the relaxation room - my friend loved the chocolate they offered in the waiting area to snack on. It was nice that they take late appointments (our massage was 9pm) - I asked for deep tissue - got therapist Yuri Wilson - he is AWESOME for getting into those neck and shoulder tension areas!!!! I was also having lower back pain - Yuri was great in stretching my legs during the massage to get some relief on my lower back. GREAT massage. Great service and professional staff. Toni was the massage therapist and she provided a 60 minute medium pressure full body tissue massage. My concentration areas: shoulder, lumbar back, and feet. She was very thorough and skillful with her technique. Initially she had me lay face up on the heated massage table, this was a little different for me since most therapist I've been to begin face down. Nonetheless, she handled my trouble, stressful areas with care. My body felt like it melted into her hands. I truly think for a moment I feel asleep. That is how comfortable it felt . At the conclusion of the massage Toni provided a heated towel for cool down. I will be seeing her again soon. read more

I would NOT recommend this establishment at all!! There was something wrong or some issue at every single appointment for the entire year that I was a member! I was more stressed at the mere thought of my massage appointment (wondering what would go wrong when I showed up) and sometimes even more stressed when I left. Also, on one occasion, I was so upset that I couldn't even get my massage and had to reschedule because of inadequate front office staff. Some of the problems I experienced were: scheduling with a specific therapist but showing up only to find out some other therapist is giving the massage, people laughing & talking loudly out in the halls while you are trying to get a massage & relax, front office staff NOT familiar with the computer system and giving you incorrect information, front office staff NOT being consistent with procedures, etc... The majority of the issues were not with the massage therapists themselves but with the front office staff AND the management. IF you have an issue, problem or complaint, don't bother contacting the manager---she is hardly ever there and does NOT return phone calls. I have friends who are members at other Massage Envy locations in the Hampton Roads area and have not had the same experiences as I have had. As a matter of fact, they have nothing but good, positive things to say about their locations so I know these issues are not systemic. My husband and I are VERY disappointed with this business and caution anyone considering becoming a member at this location. read more

We recently cancelled our membership. This location is mire concerned about selling memberships than customer service. The therapists are great, but even they keep leaving this location and there is constant turnover at the front desk. The clinic manager dies not believe in customer service. We schedule our massages months in advance to get a certain time block and therapists. Last minute changes from massage envy disrupt our scheduling and routine. To reschedule puts the massages too close together ruining the therapeutic effect we gain from them and it is not always that easy to find another time that you can get in. The customer experience is lost on the clinic manager. read more
