I just had my massage cancelled by (as she told me) the "head" therapist in the Mayfaire location because I asked her where she went to school, & she accused me of questioning her capabilities! This is after being late in starting my session, & refusing to do the hot stone I requested because varicose veins were listed on my chart, which she said were contraindicated for hot stone. I have come here for 13 years, & never had heard that before. I recently cancelled my membership, & had some remaining credits. I will certainly continue getting massage...just NOT here. They are closing for "renovations ", but I suspect they will be closing permanently. read more

I had a facial today with Toni and it was amazing. I was not expecting the level of treatment that I received. I am an esthetician myself and have been to too many spas to count and the facial I received was equal if not better than any high priced facial I've had in the past. Toni did a fabulous job of balancing the clinical aspect along with the relaxing aspect, the end result being a perfect experience. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the complexities of the skin and she is thoroughly educated on their product lines and chose the exact perfect facial for my skin. I am so excited that I have found a place and an esthetician that I can see on a regular basis. The front desk associates were helpful, friendly and welcoming. I loved this place when I first started my membership last spring. It was incredibly affordable and my esthetician was amazing. I saw her regularly for 8 months and there was always ample appointments available. As time went on, my esthetician left and I tried another until she left. And then another left. With that, I was constantly receiving different styles of facials. I was open to trying new people, but some were just not my favorite. Plus, on at least 5 occasions, my service was cancelled within 24 hours, sometimes even sooner. When I tested positive for COVID the afternoon of a service, they told me I had to pay for the service since it was within 24 hours. I had to go through a loop to get them to not charge me. I cancelled my membership in August because I was tired of the poor service and unprofessionalism. I had two credits left to use and did so in September. Today, I was charged the $70 membership fee. I called and was told management would be in touch with me. Management never called, the receptionist did. They said they didn't know why it happened but if I gave them my card info they could refund this. When a membership is cancelled, they delete all information other than contact info. That would make sense, but how was my card charged if they don't have it on file anymore?? It was wonderful but now it is shady and hard to deal with. I am awaiting my refund. read more

They moved locations to beside Belk BUT their address is not updated online. They did not tell me that when I made my appointment. So I had to call to ask where it was located and I arrived at exactly my appointment time. When the massage therapist came in she was very short with me. I was trying to strike up a conversation but she was not having it and that was awkward. When I made the appointment I told them my areas of tension is neck shoulders and upper back because I work at a computer. The massage therapist only focused on my upper back for most of the time and the massage table itself was very uncomfortable. By the end of my massage my lower back was aching! (Which she never even massaged!) Then in the last 5 minutes of the massage she massages my neck and says oh your tense here I don't have much time to focus here. Do you work at a computer? I said yes but I'm thinking the whole time "I told them that when I made the appointment". I have NEVER seen this type of massage technique where the therapist is sitting down in a chair whilst massaging and rolling from one side of the bed to the other. I was disappointed with the quality of the massage. After the massage my therapist seemed a little nicer and said I should come back so she can work on my neck. The receptionist were very nice and were really trying to get me to make another appointment but I could not do that because I did not enjoy that experience. I would have preferred if they would have checked me out and just handed me a pamphlet of what they offer, because we ended up having this long and unnecessary conversation about coming back for subsequent massages with the same therapist and I'm not interested in that. But I am so frustrated with this location and it's ongoing poor management, disregard for customer service, inability to retain employees (it's like a revolving door!) I have been a member for at least 15 years and had no real problems in other states I have lived in. But the Mayfair location is just a hot mess. I went in for my appointment today to find out he person making my appointment set it for Sunday, two weeks from now. The poor girl at the desk offered and awkward "I'm sorry" and tried to reschedule me, however that does nothing to help today. I cannot on good conscience recommend this location and as the only other available location is an hour from my home, I will be reaching out to my home location to make arrangements to cancel my membership which I have loved for so long. read more

My girlfriend had requested two 90-minute massages for us, but they only had a 90-minute and a 60-minute. So she scheduled the 90-minute for me and the 60-minute massage for herself and asked to be on a waiting list for the longer massage. The day of our massage (the day after Thanksgiving), I woke up with a horrible cold and basically lost my voice. I called the minute they opened at 9:00 a.m. to say that I was sick and would like to cancel my 2:00 p.m. appointment. They told me I would be charged the full price, so I told them I would come in sick if they could not be flexible. "Oh no. We don't want you here sick." I told them to give my money back, and I won't come in. They offered to try and find another person to take my spot. I asked them to find someone for the 60-minute slot as my friend wanted the 90-minute slot. "Oh no, we can't do that. We would have to charge your friend for a cancellation in order to give her the 90-minute slot." What???? They were supposed to call and let me know if they found someone for my spot. They never called. I called twice and left messages to no avail. I switched to my cellular (rather than my home phone) and they picked up immediately. They obviously have caller ID. They had found someone for my spot but "forgot to call me." They had filled the 90-minute slot instead of trading it for my friend. Never ever going to Massage Envy. Came in for a 60 min massage with Rhonda and it is hands down the worst massage I have ever gotten. Literally my 6 year old does better. I never get to do things for myself since I have an 8 month old and 6 y/o and was looking forward to this. They didn't have any calming music playing so the whole time I heard Rhonda's stomach grumbling super loud. The whole time it felt like the focus was to just rub lotion on my body and shake my body around & she didn't even use the full 50 mins, I was only on the bed for 45 mins. I was honestly waiting for it to be over. Waiting for management to call me back because that was the biggest waste of money and time I've ever spent considering I drove 33 mins to even get there. *management called back and said they won't compensate, even though the lady at the front desk told me they would* Never coming here again. read more

Terrible management. Signed up for a membership then had a hard time getting in and started having increase low back pain after massages due to an injury I recieved during my service in the military. I told them this and they refused to cancel my membership I called several times requesting them to cancel and they refused or said they would but then money would still come out of our account. Had to go in to get them to finally cancel my membership so hopefully that will happen. They refused to credit me for the months over the year that they charged me or allow me to transfer my credits without additional payment. I purchased a $100 gift card (and received a $40 promotional card) to get a facial and a massage and was told that as a new client, the introductory rate would be applied for both services (the facial and massage). After making both appointments, I called to change one, not realizing this would negate my ability to receive the intro rate for both. So I was charged the full rate and had to pay an additional $40 after the second service. So basically the promotional gift card was rescinded by them...The manager said the introductory rate for both services only applies when services are received on the same day. I was very disappointed and appalled about the poor quality of the service. I feel calling it a service is untrue because what I received was not a service or a massage. I am a massage therapist myself, I have been in the field for almost 5 years and began my career at a Massage Envy so I feel I know what to expect. Catherine did not give a massage. I felt I was being finger painted on for the entire session. It was far too light with little effort, it felt as if I was having sunscreen applied for the duration of the session. I requested lower body to be the focus on the intake and in the verbal consultation, I asked for a full body massage as it was a 90 minute session and again asked for lower body and glutes to be the main focus. The therapist didn't work on the glutes at all and spent the least amount of time on the legs and feet. The draping was not a diaper drape (which I know is massage envy standard, as I have gone through the training) and was instead loosely draped slightly above the knee. This resulted in no work on the glutes, hamstrings or quads, which was my main focus area requested. The therapist also didn't massage the arms, head or face. I again asked for a full body and the therapist didn't work on glutes, hamstrings, quads, arms, head or face. The majority of the time was spent on the neck with awkward hand placements being held under the neck for long amounts of time. This gave me a headache for the rest of the day. I feel the massage was absolutely minimal effort. I feel I was being awkwardly pet for the duration of the massage. The therapist sat in the chair over 95% of the session and I am embarrassed to say the room smelled of body odor. She also ended 8 minutes early, as I checked the time when the session was over. I almost ended the session while I was on the table but was too embarrassed to do so, which I am now regretting. I thought this could be resolved at the front desk but that led to more let down and disappointment. I spoke with a man at front desk and the manager. Again, I am usually not one to complain but this massage was completely unacceptable. I explained what I have above and the manager said I should have coached her and critiqued her during the massage, basically blaming me for not speaking up. I was then asked to pay AND tip, which I regretfully did. I do not feel like I should have paid for that. There was no service given. That was not a massage. That is not what massage therapy is. I feel like I wasted $130. I haven't received a massage in over a year and it was my birthday present from my husband so I was extremely excited and looking forward to the service. I am highly contemplating leaving this review on line to spread the word. I would like a complete refund and to speak with the owner directly, as management didn't do anything except make me feel like it was my fault and then asked to pay for this unacceptable service. read more

I've been a member since 2019. It was always very convenient to make an appointment and go in with a week or two. Since the pandemic it's almost impossible to get in! I pay a monthly fee. I have so many rolled over massages to use up and I can't. I'd like to cancel but that's just wasted money, as you have to use up your massages within 3 months of canceling. However, you can't get in to use them. I'm in a money wasting cycle. I've reached out to corporate to see what my options are but they just redirect me back to the Monkey Junction location management. Stuck in a cycle, not worth it. Plus they don't ever call you back. My experience has been nothing but great. I cancelled my membership for a short period due to a military move from HI to NC and the nearest location being 45 minuted from where we live. Once I'm settled, I plan to continue my regular membership. When I initially cancelled, I had 2 unused hours . I was walking in the Mayfair Shopping center and noticed a Massage Envy. I stopped by the Wilmington, NC Mayfair location to see if I could have my hours transferred. The gentleman (I believe his name was Jeff) told me they had expired. So, he took the time to go above and beyond and call the Hawaii location and ask if I could get my hours extended so I could use them. When he called the Kaneohe, HI location, not only did the office approve my extension, the ladies there remembered me and said they missed me! It felt pretty good to be remembered. Overall, I had a great experience at both the Kaneohe, HI and Mayfair Wilmington, NC location. Both offices greeted me with a smile, the stores were clean, the representatives at the front desk were energetic, kind and absolutely amazing. I was in much need of a massage from the cross country move and Stephanie (North Carolina) Did a great job releasing my tension. I would highly recommend both locations. read more

I've been a Massage Envy customer for over 3 years in Carlsbad, CA and Columbia, MD and had phenomenal experiences at both locations. Military orders sent me to North Carolina where I transferred my membership to the Massage Envy Mayfaire Town Center location. The front desk staff is completely disorganized, and makes it appear as if they have no clue what is going on and do not even know how to do their jobs. My transfer request was the hardest and most complicated for them to complete and took my old location in Columbia going above and beyond and walking them through the process and fixing membership info and billing that was messed up when Mayfaire tried processing it. Booking appointments at this location is worse then pulling teeth. To find an appointment that was available during weekends you had to book almost 2 months out. Of the three appointments my wife and I did get at this location, one was "erased from their system" and one had a masseuse call in sick and hour before our appointment for a couple's massage. (We live an hour and a half away and make weekend trips to Wilmington once a month). The front desk staff comes across as ignorant, rude, and impersonal. At other Massage Envy locations, I was always greeted by my first name upon entering and everyone was super friendly and helpful. The front desk staff at Mayfaire could care less. They'll leave you waiting at the desk for help for 10 minutes without saying a word while they make phone calls and type away at their computer. The location is nice though, and massages were decent, hence the 1 star. read more

It hurt me giving this place even a star. After a year of membership, I would not recommend this "business" to anyone. Before booking ANY sessions, just google "massage envy complaints" or even "massage envy scam" and read all the feedback. Not the "wellness center" I initial thought. Monthly billing issues, "fine print" issues, and mistreatment by front staff over the phone more often than not? My husband and I have been members for over a year. This past month, we decided to close our memberships due to the lack of time we currently have with our expanding businesses and family life. This past month, we also lost my mother in law who suddenly passed last week. I had a scheduled facial and massage today, my last appointment. My mother in laws cremation ceremony had been rescheduled from yesterday to today due to wind/beach issues. I thought I was doing my due diligence by calling the location this morning and explaining that I wanted to shorted my appointment by 30 minutes, and instead of coming in at 2:30 PM, I'd be in at 3PM, due to our cremation ceremony. I was mind blown to have Celeste, raise her voice, and non stop repeat that I would be charged for the lost 30minutes. I tried to interject to ask why, as I already had accumulated massages from previous months, why pay more?? Without a response, she kept raising her voice- speaking over me. No human, customer, anyone, deserves to be treated in such a condescending manner. Even with explaining my families circumstances, she didn't even acknowledge me speaking. I asked to speak to Kristen the manager that I've always found helpful. She denies my request and hangs up on my ear. After trying to call back, no one answers. My husband then calls back. Celeste answers, and yes, when I say yelling, this young lady was yelling into the phone as he explained what I was trying to accomplish. Of course my husband and I are frustrated at this point. -I have a vigil for our dead mother today -All I'm trying to do is deduct 30 minutes off of my appointment -All we are receiving is a 20-something year old screaming in BOTH of our ears. Celeste, well, she then hangs up on him too. Now we are at a point, trying to figure out if I have my appointment for 2:30 or 3? The receptionist is telling us she's the manager, and won't give any other massage envy rep the phone, she's at this point, bullying us, doing nothing productive. Trying to call back Massage Envy, no one answers. They are clearly screening the calls to the point, I literally have to leave a message stating, "Someone needs to contact me back to clear this up or I'm coming in within the next 15 minutes." It takes me calling back 5 more times until Barbara answers, and before she too hangs up on my ear, she explained that she has refunded my money, and I am not welcome into that particular location. *CLICK*. This scenario is an example of people who should not be dealing with the public as they offer no assistance when they let their emotions rage out of control. I was calling to ask for assistance with my appointment, not to be screamed at, hung up on, disrespected by numerous associates?? What type of operation is this??? I am in clear understanding of cancellation policies, and the fee's one may incur, however, when death is involved, there should be exceptions or at least people who can speak to customers with out screaming into the phone insulting them in every measure. The one year contract is more like the never ending story in which they charge me $5 over the contracted amount monthly, are always bemused as to why the charge differs, promise to investigate, and adjust, but never quite get around to effectuating the remedy. I received some bad news minutes before walking in and when Kristin came over to do the paperwork with me, I became a little emotional. She seemed genuinely concerned and brought me some water. I asked her if I could reschedule for another day. She excused my appointment and told me to call back to reschedule whenever I felt better. I called later on in the week and Jenna helped me set up my appointment. She offered me an extension for about $25. When I arrived yesterday, all of the seats out front were taken, and they insisted on taking me into the quiet, peaceful waiting room to fill out my paperwork. Jenna came back to go over things with me and I found her to be friendly, knowledgeable, and calming. I give my massage a 7/10. It was relaxing no doubt and I can't wait for my next one, but I probably won't see the same therapist. After working 8 days in a row I thought I'd treat myself to a facial. I stated I wanted a "stress free relaxing facial". What I received was anything but. 5 minutes after leaving my face was leaking serous fluid because it was burned so badly. I did not have a chemical peel, I apparently had the "standard facial". I have had numerous facials before including chemical peels that have never left my face BURNED. The next morning my face looked even worse. I had four giant burn marks on my face that blistered over. When I went back in to speak with management they handled in a nonchalant manner and offered no compensation like they couldn't see 20% of my face was burned off. What the heck? I completely underestimated Massage Envy. I don't know what I imagined it would be, but I pictured it would be much more corporate looking and Un-spa like. I went here as a guest on my moms account to use one of her massages she had saved up other the past few months. I had Marissa and wow, talk about a perfectionist. I have been to a handful of very upscale spas including most recently The Salamander up in NOVA. Obviously ME is not the salamander in terms of amenities, but the massage rivaled my very expensive massage from higher end spas. When the lady at the front desk told me my masseuse would use a light/medium pressure, I wasn't sure what to expect. I normally like higher pressure, but she knew what she was doing and worked on each knot till it released. My experience was professional from start to end and I highly HIGHLY recommend Marissa. I do not live in the area so I probably won't be able to make it back in, but I can say I recommend this location if you are looking for a professional setting that is both clinical and relaxing. Realize that this is not a fancy spa, but it is a place you can go and get a great massage. Be clear with your wants and needs and don't expect your masseuse to just know what you want in my experience. If you want them to spend the entire hour on your upper back, just say so! read more

I have a stomach virus and was concerned about how I would still be feeling today and didn't want to get the staff sick as well. She had no compassion for me and reminded me that I would be charged for the appointment if it wasn't rebooked since it was less than 24 hours prior to my appointment (I called 22 hours prior.) If I could give this establishment a negative five, I would. I came here for my birthday today, and I enjoyed my massage. However, when I booked the appointment, I was told I would receive the introductory rate of 49.99. So, I'm finished with my massage, and they tell me it's 95.00! So, I tell her the lady on the phone told me since I had been gone for so long, I would receive the introductory rate of 49.99. She made sure to emphasize "clearly" as an attempt to embarrass me and suggest that I was intentionally lying about the rate I was quoted. I asked her could I hear it because I don't mishear rates like that because that's what prompted me to go ahead and book in the first place. So, she says she can't let me hear it because of some regulation that she pulled out of her ass. I knew in my heart she was lying and trying to "save face" because she didn't want to admit that the lady on the phone indeed had misquoted me. She had the worst customer service I have EVER seen at Massage Envy, and I used to be a regular a few years back. This was the brunette manager with all the tattoos on her arm. It was like she was hoping I didn't have the money for it, so she could call the police on a black woman, and it was like she was ready for me to make a scene. Y'all it was just terrible. I trying hard to put it into words, but the passive aggressiveness of this manager made my skin crawl. She had a smirk on her face, and she did nothing to try and mitigate the situation. She thrived in my frustration, but I told her it was my birthday and that she wasn't going to mess it up. I will say the other two ladies who witnessed it was very apologetic. They showed more managerial qualities than her. I should have gotten her name, so I could call corporate on her and let them know that this branch was purposely misquoting customers to lure them into coming, and once you complete the massage, you have to pay. It's the "get you got you" game. I want to say her name was Sarah, but I may have just heard that name in the mix. Anyways, thankfully I had enough money on me to pay the 65, but it sucks because I was going to leave the masseuse a generous tip. I will never be back to this location again, and I probably will never visit Massage Envy even though this was the FIRST bad run in ever with this company. I have been going to this location for 3 years now and have not had a bad experience. Every time I have been to this location they were nice and professional. I am too busy to schedule appointments far in advance but have usually been able to schedule the day of or the next day. The only times I have not been able to schedule an appointment was during the holidays or when they didn't have a therapist I liked (deep tissue). Weekends will obviously be busier. I have brought friends here and the staff was very nice an took the time to introduce them to the experience. During the massage they always listened to requests for different pressure or to adjust the table and head rest. Tables are heated so make sure to ask them to adjust it to what you like. I was hesitant at first because I was unfamiliar with getting a massage but now I make sure to ask for what I want. There is nothing overwhelmingly spectacular with the location but it provided everything I would expect from a massage spa to include a professional and courteous staff. Had a great first experience. I was stressed out from a tough week and Kia helped me out a lot. They were very nice and Kristin took the time to explain everything from the beginning. The massage service itself was wonderful. The therapists that they have on staff are great but when it comes to their front desk staff that is a different story. My husband is a member and I am not and the treatment that we've had trying to set appointments is a bit out of control. One evening we were contacted three different times by the establishment to change our time because they double booked the room and time and the day before we were to have that appointment they called us to change our time yet again because the room was still double booked. Besides the front desk not having the highest level of competency, the overall feel and calmness offered by the therapists themselves is wonderful! read more

Fair massage but overall experience was poor. The staff and crew should take some lessons in customer care and quality service: Making collection calls at the reception desk is tasteless and is one example of what not to do. Another would be to narrow a 1 hour massage into 50 minutes then detail to the customer that the other 10 minutes will be for dressing and undressing and "relaxing." That's just cheap. Finally, sell- sell sell has no place in a spa. If I wanted to go to work, I would have. The aggressive business of selling memberships after the massage was long-winded and out of place, a poor ending to a so-so massage experience. I will not be returning or recommending. read more

I moved from Texas to Wilmington. I visited several Massage Envy's in San Antonio and always had a great experience from the front desk to the actual massage. I joined in 2010. Then I moved to Wilmington in 2013. I tried both locations and both were horrible. I tried each one twice, just to make sure. The front desk at Mayfair is just rude. They do make collection calls from the front desk, which is uncomfortable to hear and unprofessional on their part. The "hour" massage really is only 50 minutes tops. The therapists are very new and very inexperienced. Trying to schedule an appointment is like pulling teeth at Mayfair. I had been a loyal customer for 3 yrs and couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. So after bring extremely frustrated I cancelled my membership with 7 massages already paid for. I didn't even want to get those from them! And if you are not a member be prepared to be pressured to become one. It is not a relaxing stress relieving place, it's the opposite. You'll leave irritated frustrated and anxious. I should also mention that I tried to get satisfaction by going to a manager. She had just as bad if an attitude as the rest. read more
