My home sauna that has been broken for months and I have been on a quest to find a comparable sauna in the wild as I await my replacement parts that are literally coming on a slow boat from China. I have been to three other places (Sirona, Meta Physica, and Motor City Spa). So far, the sauna at Massage Green is the best. I typically use my home one three times a week, so this has been a bit of a hardship. I hadn't sauna-ed in a few weeks and I was feeling sluggish and my skin was meh. After my first visit to Massage Green's sauna, I felt bright eyed and bushy tailed again! I'm about three visits in so far and getting my overall groove back. Pros 1. It is hot when I get there. Several others I have tried around town are not to full temp. Like that is the whole point! 2. It is spacious. Several around town are tiny little jail cells. And you can't even call them little sweat boxes because they are not even hot. The bench is almost long enough to fully recline (I am about 5'5"). 3. Robe provided. The robe is a nice touch if you need to run to the restroom mid-sauna. 4. Flexible / reasonable plans: I was able to an 8 pack of saunas for $100. They have other packs and plans for massages and facials which I may look into as well as I near the end of this pack. 5. Spacious parking lot/easy access for major roads and highways 6. Clean and calm interior 7. Nice staff 8. Ability to book and cancel on-line. Cancellation for massage and facial services is free up to 7pm the night before but for sauna seems to be fine up to the hour before, but I don't want to take advantage and ruin it for everyone, but I did have to cancel with just a couple hours notice and they didn't charge me 9. Filtered water dispenser in the hall Cons: 1. No shower 2. No chromotheraphy lights 3. Can't change the music in the room 4. Towels are scratchy Tips if you are going to sauna: 1. Bring your own big Yeti cup or similar for in the sauna 2. Don't forget whatever skivvies you want to wear in the sauna (I like to wear soft cotton boxers and a soft lounge bra) 3. Bring slides/sandals in case you need to run to the bathroom mid-sauna. Also good for leaving, if it is cold so you can really soak up the cold blast after 4. Don't forget the clothes for after! I usually go right after working out, so I am not putting my workout clothes back on after 5. I bring a pack of shower-wipe things to wipe off after. I am definitely still funky after cause I wear hippie deodorant and I am definitely going to run an errand after while I'm on that side of town regardless of the funk-factor. Working a desk job for 40 hours a week, spin classes, and then having a 20+ pound dog squeeze her way underneath my arm and lay her sweet little chin on my shoulder all night makes for some wicked shoulder, back, and glute pain. I've found that regular massages and now I've started utilizing the infrared sauna helps tremendously. Their membership helps me keep my appointments for self care and if I don't make it one month, it rolls over to the next, so that is nice. I think it's pretty affordable, base price is about $1 a minute for massage. of course tip is extra. You have to find your fit with your therapist. I've seen some bad reviews where it seemed like the issue was with the therapist, not the facility itself. Katie and Chuck are the best, they are conscientious and pay attention to what you need at that appt. The infrared sauna is great, especially in the wintertime and I think it helps with my sore muscles. Make sure you're hydrated beforehand, so you can break a sweat! read more

Best massage I've gotten in mi. Olando was available for same day due to neck/shoulder pain. He has over 8 yrs experience and it shows. Deep tissue, trigger point, rotation and pt moves and my tension melted away. Sure he can do fufu massage too, but this was an amazing therapeutic massage. He could work at a chiropractic office. Def wasn't a new grad like I was expecting. Forgot to add he puts warm towels on your feet that feel wonderful. Adds a touch of spa experience. The Fantastic Sams of massage parlors. No lazy, zero effort, goal IDK attitude. Told the girl what was bothering me..didn't even focus on that. Got the "deep tissue" she literally just rubbed oil all over my body, zero pressure. My foam roller massages me better. She only rubbed one of my feet...kept pausing. I think she may have been playing on her phone. Just terrible. Will never ever ever give them another dime. I love this location. My mom and I come here all of the time. We get one hour Swedish massages. I've had a couple massage therapists here and they've all been great! I've also had aromatherapy, a facial, and a hot stone massage. All of those services have been great. My favorite massage therapist was Jessica but I guess she no longer works at this location. I think the monthly membership my mom and I use is totally worth it. We love to get pampered and we always have a good experience here. The lobby and rooms are both very nicely decorated and clean. I can't think of anything negative about coming here. I highly recommend this location! I also love the Dearborn my location. My mom said that the one in the village of Grosse Pointe is really nice too and so I would love to try that one soon! read more

I loved my experience. I made a same-day appointment after a week of very uncomfortable neck and shoulder pain. I arrived early and was greeted by two friendly individuals at the front desk, and I helped myself to a cool glass of water and a bathroom break before my massage. My therapist, Ray, greeted me and pulled me in for my massage. I spent the next hour in complete bliss as she hit my targeted areas perfectly. I have experienced many massages, but the best ones are those given by therapists who are deeply caring and intuitive - Ray gave me just that experience and better. She checked in a few times asking about the level of pressure, which was always spot on. She absolutely found my stressed areas with no problem. Hot towels were used wonderfully - to wipe excess oil and soothe muscles. There was some awesomely minty stuff used at some point on my feet as they were spritzed and wrapped up in hot towels - it was simply divine. They definitely sold me on the membership - my husband can use it if he wants to, and unused months can roll over and be used combined to get a massage and facial in one visit, or a two-hour massage. I must admit the place is clean however their "Groupon" policy is a total ripoff! I have been going to this location on & off for more than 6 years and have decent service. As a treat for my guy I bought a couples massage through Groupon when I tried to book for a weekend I was told it could only be redeemed Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! Furthermore if for some reason we couldn't make it...no refund and no reschedule (so I can kiss my $110 goodbye)! I am appalled that this is not made clear when their services are offered on "a deal" such as Groupon. I am an RN and my job is physically and emotionally intense -- I need and love regular deep tissue massages. I live close to this location and was hoping to make it part of my regular routine. I've attempted 3 times and sadly, not going back. They automatically deduct the first 10 and last 10 minutes of the "hour" massage for undressing and dressing which I have never experienced anywhere else. My last massage was at 7pm. The masseuse was 10 minutes behind, and then another 10ish minutes talking about what areas I wanted worked on and undressing, then stopped at 7:50. I paid for an hour deep tissue and got maybe 25 minutes of Swedish pressure at best - not even focusing on the areas we talked about. Don't get me started on my visit before my last when I found a band aide on the blanket. Yeah, it's a no from me. read more

I received my first EVER facial today. This establishment is very clean, peaceful & the front desk staff make you feel welcome. Christina was wonderful and My appointment started ON TIME. She gave me great advice on a skincare regimen and my upper body massage was very relaxing. I upgraded to a chemical peel and my face looked amazing and felt replenished. She gave me a free sample of a moisturizer she used on me. I will be returning. I want to add this to my skin care regimen to see the results! First timers get a great deal on a facial. read more

If I could rate this place lower I would. By far the worst, weak and laziest massage I've ever received. I specially asked for a focus on certain areas and I felt like I wasn't heard. The pressure, the technique, the lack of even asking how it was, non existent. Clearly I got what I paid for, a cheap massage that felt like a waste of my time and money. Even with poor service, I would typically tip 20% because I get it, the service industry is hard. However, given the extremely poor excuse of a massage, I left a shit tip. I've had better massages at a massage school with a brand new massage student. My new rule, if I can't afford a quality massage at the time, I'll stick to a foam roller or lacrosse ball to ease my knots. At least those provide relief. Avoid the Groupon for this place. Do not go here. My first experience was terrible and awkward. The masseuse unloaded all of her personal home and boyfriend issues on me during the massage. Completely inappropriate. It stressed me out so much that I left more tense than when I came in. I thought I should give the place a second chance so I came back a few months later. I really enjoyed my first massage at Massage Green. Seeing the other yelp ratings gave me pause, but the introductory massage is a good deal and when I saw I could book my appointment with ease online I knew I was going to give it a shot. (They even quickly re-booked my appointment to another time when I called to let them know I noticed a conflict in my calendar.) I've gone to quite a few other massage places over the years and I have a family member who is an excellent massage therapist so I have an idea of what to expect of a good massage - and this massage was GREAT. Oyin was EXCELLENT and I'd totally go see her again. She was careful when I told her that I had a recent injury to my right knee. She was respectful when I told her I tended to be pretty quiet during massages, making a little bit of small talk, but not a lot. She was kind - checking on pressure and making sure to keep me feeling a bit modest, tucking in the sheets around whichever area she was working on. She gently asked, "Would you like me to work on your glutes today or just finish on your legs and feet?" It's a little more gentle than saying, "Do you mind if I touch your butt?" (Which, by the way, if your comfort level will allow it... get your glutes done. You probably never realized how unhappy your butt muscles can be.) She was very skilled as well. My understanding of massage is that it's almost like working in layers. Everything she did was just great, slowly working her way deeper into my muscles... Now that I'm thinking about it, it was one of the best massages I've ever had. The membership is pretty tempting. $40 a month gets you a massage - which ever flavor you like - and it's for your household. It's something I'd give serious consideration to. Especially with such flexible hours. If I had to think about why this isn't a five star review... I guess I'd say that it feels a touch less dressed down than some of their competitors. (Who, to be fair, charge an extra $20/month more than Massage Green.) In example, I could hear murmurs of conversation from the other rooms a bit. But really, I wasn't looking for a spa day. When I was on the table a different masseuse came in, introduced herself and proceeded. She was very pleasant but not very skilled. When I discussed the situation with the receptionist she offered no explanation for the switch, nor an apology. I had the best massage here by Valerie. She doesn't work at this location, though. She works at the location on St. Clair and Kercheval. I highly recommend her!! I have to say, though, I was not greeted very nicely by the staff behind the desk. When I walked in, no one said hello to me. I stood there and I finally said hello. I sat there for 20 minutes waiting and no one said but 1 thing to me or offered me anything to drink. When I left, I asked one of the girls if I could leave Val a tip and she told me to "wait a minute". She didn't even thank me or show me any kind of appreciation for coming to their business. While I was waiting for my massage, a woman came in from St. Germaine Catholic School and very nicely asked for a donation for their auction. The woman in charge behind the desk (I'm assuming) wasn't even that nice to her and gave her a one hour free massage gift certificate. Seriously? The best she could do is give her 1 free hour? I would think a business in the community could do better than that! So, like I said, the massage was fantastic, but the customer service left a lot to be desired. read more

This was my first visit to MASSAGE GREEN. Upon my arrival the waiting area was quiet and peaceful until other guests began to arrive then it became more like CHEERS where everybody knows your name. Shortly my therapist came to get me....it was OYIN! I was interested in experiencing her work and I totally agree with Lauren C., she is the best. Doesn't talk a lot only when needed. Very careful and respectful. I did here alittle murmuring once I was settled in my room but that soon faded away. Once my 60 min session was over I felt pretty good. By the time i arrived home I realized just how wonderful that experience was. What ever the chatter was about in the beginning of my visit, she made it all go away. read more

My Husband and I booked an infrared sauna for $19.95 each as first time customers. We showed up and the staff was friendly and got us set up for our 60min detox sauna. It was clean and nice but after an hour we didn't sweat one drop. We we're "detoxing". We were even getting a draft from the sauna door that wouldn't close, we tried to make sure it was a closed as possible but it still had an inch gap. We told the staff after that we were disappointed and that we didn't sweat and they said we aren't supposed to in the infrared sauna and that it only heat your body up internally. The pamphlets the spa said "most intense sweat if your life". I'm not one to leave bad reviews but we were not given an explanation, offered a discount or even acknowledged. We even told them about the door and they shrugged it off. We paid $40 to just be slightly warm and not sweat for 60 min. I don't think we'll be coming back. read more

The proof is in the pudding...I pre-paid for a 90 minute massage only got 75. I asked why? Because time is deducted from the beginning for you to get undressed and at the end to get dressed. So I'm paying to get dressed! The sheets smelled musty, so I asked for some sort of aromatherapy. Didn't want to be on my face smelling that smell for over 45 minutes! So she had to leave the room, which also took time off my time. She put a few drops on a Kleenex and tucked it into my cradle cover, didn't do enough, she should have sprinkled it directly onto the face cradle. When I checked out ( I thought to only give a tip) I was informed I had a $5 charge to pay. What is the $5 fee for? For aromatherapy that you requested. I said I would not pay, as the therapist didn't inform me of a fee tor a few drops and the whole reason I asked for it was to cover up the nasty smell of the sheets. The receptionist knew I was upset but wasn't very nice to me after that point! The whole reason I returned was the first time I went, I had a VERY experienced Therapist! Versed in several techniques, actually gave me extra time, did everything I asked and more. BUT due to the low wages this company pays, ( and I have met others as well who said the same thing and could not stay due to the low pay) she could not survive on that so found another job outside the field! So I had to start over this 2nd time and not happy and WILL NOT return! read more

I used to go to massage green and I absolutely loved the person that I had and the price was affordable - which is what they advertise - affordable luxury. I continued to go there for quite a while. Even though it is not a full hour and they call it an hour i was able to accept it because it was priced well and the massage was always very nice. Then they decided to raise the price $10, which also means the tip should be a little bit more as well, which I would have no issue with. This is and expected thing from any person going to a salon.. After that I decided to stop being a member for awhile due to financial times not being the greatest. I decided to schedule a massage there recently because I have really been in need of one..i thought hey -I'll spend the $50. Only to find out that it is now $70 for an hour massage -so they have increased it $30! How is that affordable luxury ?!?! You might as will go to another salon and get it done in a nicer atmosphere! I just think they need to stop raising their prices because they'll keep losing dedicated customers like myself. read more

I have been going here since the day they opened and I love it. It is the best $40 I can spend on myself monthly. If you do not like the person you have, simply try a new one. It took me a couple tries to get the people that worked best for me so you can't give up on the first trip. The place is clean, the staff professional, and the price affordable.
