At the outset I told the person at the desk that I had a check engine light for a code indicating that the evaporative fuel system had a leak. I told him that if the code (P1420) was still the same to do nothing further. After a few hours, I received a call from the same person indicating that I needed a new air conditioner compressor and that there was a small leak from the condenser. When I picked up my car, I was billed a total of $166.62 even though no repairs were performed. $75+ was for looking at the check engine light. The code, which was the one I told them about, was not even erased. I am no mechanic and, in fact, I have very limited mechanical ability. However, it is very easy to check these codes and erase them. I took my cheap code checking device from AutoZone and timed how long it took me to plug it in, read the instructions, and erase the code. It took me 3 minutes. At the rate Luttrell's charged me that is the equivalent of $1500 per hour. What a joke. If I had been told I would be charged $75 plus tax to look at the engine light code, I would have declined. If the cause of the check engine light had been diagnosed, I wouldn't have a complaint. However, in my experience a reputable company would not have charged anything for such a minor task as checking an engine light code and doing nothing more. I had no problem paying the cost of diagnosing the problem with my air conditioner. However, the estimated cost of repairing my air conditioner was $4500+. I decided not to authorize the repair. I then went online to get an estimate of the cost to replace the compressor. According to one site, the estimated cost for our area was around $2200 for the compressor. Assuming the condenser was included in this estimate, that would cost another $800 for a total of $3000. https://repairpal.com/estimator/estimate-results. Another website estimated the cost at $2400 for the compressor and $725 for the condenser for a total of $3125. https://www.yourmechanic.com/estimates/lexus/rx400h/ac-compressor-replacement. Draw your own conclusion whether you should trust Lutrell's estimate, which was roughly $1400 higher that the second estimate. So end the end, I was charged a total of $166.62 for "diagnostic" work, which included $3 for undifferentiated "shop supplies". While repair shops vary, I would note that I recently had my Toyota pickup serviced at Master Auto Service down the road from Luttrell's and the total cost was $200 below the RepairPal website estimated cost for the work that was performed. If that shop worked on hybrids, I would go back there in an instant. I will never step foot in Lutrell's again.

I TOO HAD A BAD EXPERENCE WITH THE OWNER STEVE, AS GOOGLE AND YELP REVEWS SHOW. Just so you know,…read moreI'm a 60 year old, gray hair woman, with a nice silver Honda CRV. Someone (Don) I had met at the senior center when my car's serpentine belt came off, was a friend of Steve's mechanic Craig (he must be a saint) said, that he could fix it for me. I was told it could be done the following Sunday. Don and I arrive around 10:40 am, and there was a huge semi parked in front of the office, where I thought we were going into...Don, who was a very poor communicator the whole week as well, (because he had to control everything, all the time) went to the right towards the mechanics building (I didn't see the sign) and I went to the left, and parked in front of the office. I saw 2 guys on forklifts, so I waved and smiled at them. And before I could get out of my car, Steve (didn't know he was the owner) yells at me..."WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" I said out my window, "I'm with him", pointing at Don across the way. Steve then says, "You need to leave, you're not supposed to be here". I said, "How do you know what I'm supposed to be doing, I'm obviously here for a reason". Well, that pissed him off and he said, something else, again condescending me, to which I said, "Do I look like a criminal? Do not condescend me". He got off the lift and went running to Craig to tell him, not to help me. So Satan's tool, wins again.... ALL BECAUSE OF HIS INSECURE, SEXIST EGO!!!

They did not inform me that there would be a charge to inspect for the leak and I did NOT authorize this charge. After inspecting my car, they gave me a written estimate to remove and replace the rear differential cover for $595. I consulted with my friend, who is a master mechanic, and he stated it was highly unlikely that this repair would be needed. I decided to get a second opinion and drove over to the Harley Swain Subaru dealership in Hermiston (over an hour drive each way). After their inspection, they found absolutely nothing wrong with my car and performed the inspection FOR FREE!!! They also stated that this type of repair was almost unheard of. I returned to speak to the owner of Walla Walla Transmission and expressed my dissatisfaction with their analysis of the problem. I also requested a refund of the inspection fee, as I did NOT authorize the charge. The owner was unapologetic and stated that the suggested repair was just 'their opinion' and did not seem to care that their analysis of the problem was wrong. We try to stay local and support businesses here in Walla Walla, but always recommend getting a second opinion. My experience with dealers has been negative, but to my surprise, this Subaru dealer is the exception. They have been honest, knowledgeable and very helpful. We have been extremely happy with Harley Swain and highly recommend them to other Subaru owners -- it is definitely worth the drive.

Whether it's a quick oil change (usually what I come here for) or a transmission fluid flush, I know I can always count on these guys to do a good job in a short amount of time with no appointment needed. The guys here are friendly and helpful. They also don't push too hard to sell you any additional services that are "due." If you're just getting a simple oil change or a fluid flush, I definitely recommend Valvoline to anyone here in the valley!

It pains me to write negative reviews, but people need the resources to make decisions…read more I recently visited Valvoline after needing an oil change and loving that I didn't need to get out of my car. As a parent, this convenience seemed amazing. Upon my arrival, 2 cars were in front of me and I was greeted within a few minutes and the process explained. Im thinking to myself, "wow, I like this." I'd also gotten recommendations and thought I'd be paying less than my previous establishment. Pull in for my turn and I'm told my oil change would be $99! I'm already in the bay and was not about to leave at this point. (This was $20 more than my previous establishment that included a 16 point vehicle inspection, tire rotation and car wash). I was immediately told I needed a new air filter, which was coincidentally on sale. I was shocked because it had just been changed 6 months ago (for the first time I might add) and my previous establishment told me they don't even check it, they just recommend per mileage which happened at 60k miles. So I obliged as they showed a dirty filter. Toward the end of my visit, the service manager mentioned my fan was still running but proceeded as though this was normal. I'm no car person but I also hadn't driven much in the last 2 months so I thought maybe my car was just trying to cool. I get home and it ran for 4 minutes. Over the next 18 hours, I made 3 trips each resulting in 4 minutes of my fan running each time. My check engine light also came on. As I became nervous and needing to return to work the next day, I managed to find a mechanic to take a look. As I explained the scenario, he immediately noticed a wiring that was completely unhooked (picture attached after hooked back up to show location). Thankfully I didn't wait because who knows what damage could have evolved. I called the 1-800 number. They apologized and offered me a coupon and forwarded to the manager. He calls me and blames training by the previous manager and claims he will talk to the techs. I explain that he was the one working on my car and he says "I'd have to watch cameras." Luckily I *only* spent $111 for the 20 minute convenience of not getting out during covid, but it's clear they only care about making money as quickly as possible and not about potential expensive mistakes along the way. I definitely won't be returning.
