This is not my usual subject matter to review, however I thought something different this week would be nice. I've been a shooter since I was 16, a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth and gas was .75 cents a gallon. Since starting my LE career back in 1985, ...I've been visiting a range of one sort or another every week and shooting every type of pistol and rifle, from muskets to fully-auto carbines from NY to Florida. Needless to say, I've done a lot of shooting over the years. Since my retirement, it's been hard to continue shooting because of the many, many restrictive ranges in NYS with oppressive, unnecessary and unfriendly regulations/rules on the different aspects of firearm usage on/at the range. I'm NOT talking about the safety stuff! I also happen to be a certified NRA tactical rifle instructor and a certified NRA range safety officer, so my beef is usually with some of the more ridiculous type of rules like one shot at a time from a semi-auto pistol. Magazine restrictions regardless of legally being allowed to use, own and operate high cap mags, the NO use of 'Bad-guy' targets... etc. Since retiring in '09 I've had my 'balls broken' by some 'range soup Nazis' even when shooting with my two active duty LE sons, one of which was in a Tactical Federal Unit at the time. So to be screamed at by some guy because you fired more than five shots from a 15 round mag ...at an empty range, or having the audacity to use a 'hostage target' to hone your reaction and control skills with a hand gun, ...that my friends is quite demeaning and very unpleasant. So I can't tell you how happy I was in taking the advice of a Port Authority firearms instructor buddy of mine when he directed me to Master Class. Master Class is just that ..."Master Class!". I found the people/owner to be an extremely friendly, knowledgable and very helpful men. The range was ABSOLUTELY safe, while still being enjoyable. My old platoon commander and I have made it a point to visit Master Class at least twice a month now before heading out for lunch. Nothing is more enjoyable for two X-LE officers than shooting some targets, enjoying a safe, friendly, and professional environment before heading out to some vittles. I have been here many times over the years. The lanes are old and seem outdated but they are just fine. The lane I originally was going to use turned out to be out of service due to the mechanical target holder not moving. The lanes however, are just fine. Plenty of room in between lanes. The rangemaster enforces the safety rules as I saw in the past. The prices seemed fair. I find the employees to be very friendly and helpful. I have been to another range nearby and there were so many rules that it made shooting undesirable. Tip: If you think some employees may be rude that might be because they don't know you and do not know how safe you handle a firearm. They do not know if you are mentally ill or just unfit to handle a firearm. Safety is always paramount and I am sure liability is high. Just don't act like a know-it-all, ask questions if you don't know and most of all demonstrate the utmost safety when handling any firearm whether loaded or unloaded. God Bless America. This range made me feel comfortable from my first call asking for info. Jim, the instructor is simply the best when you are a novice looking to shoot. No question is dumb and his instruction makes me want to go back time after time. It can be very daunting to go in somewhere when you know nothing but I am made to feel so comfortable that I love it there!! Let me 1st start off by saying that indoor shooting ranges are far and few between in the Hudson Valley area. With that said, it is a pleasure to have one that is reasonably priced and less restrictive. Master Class really caters to Police officers and most of the patrons are usually in the protective services whereas thier nearest competitor in Goshen (Davis) caters more to hunters. For handgun shooting this place is bare bones, but that is really all you need. Pull the switch toward you and the target moves closer; push it forward and the target moves down range, plain and simple. They usually have a bunch of photocopied 8 1/2 x 11 bullseye targets on a table that you can use for free or you can buy some nicer ones. Their rules are pretty basic and intended for the safety of everyone. Keep the muzzle down range, shoot only at your own targets, no more than state legal limit of rounds in your magazines. The only downsides are that this range is only 25 yards (which is really the max for a handgun), and they do not allow high powered rifles, essentially anything over .22LR caliber. Therefore you can not shoot your ARs or hunting rifles here. Unlike, Davis, you can shoot your shotguns with the buckshot.... Davis does not allow shotguns to shoot anything but slugs. Also, Unlike Davis, you can stand and shoot your low powered carbines/rifles and can fire more rapidly, which is a plus for police training. The shop is lightly equipped with firearms so you shouldn't expect to find a gun you are looking for in stock, However, they can order just about anything and their prices are much more reasonable than most other shops around. They do have the most common handgun caliber ammo on hand in case you run out and the price of ammo is about the average for the area. They do have a few range guns that you can use if you are looking to try something different (not every caliber handgun, but a few common ones). For the price, this range is probably" the best Bang for your buck".... Most of the staff are helpful and knoweledgeable and more than willing to give you some tips. I believe they also have private lessons. Unfortunately, the new owner(I think he is the new owner. Short guy with dark hair) is a bit rough around the edges. He can seem a bit detached and arrogant. At times he comes across as rude or snide. You just have to take it with a grain of salt.... If you are looking for somewhere reasonable to shoot your handgun, .22LR or shotgun, then this place is worth it. read more

This range and their staff are top-notch. I came here with my friend to help teach him how to shoot his pistol for the first time and was impressed with how they do business. They are fair and trusting with their pricing - they allow you to bring targets being sold from the store into the range area, and you only pay for what you use. They also allowed me in the back to help my friend without charging me. The prices are very reasonable. The range officer (didn't catch his name) was friendly, patient, informative and professional. I was getting ready to help my friend shoot when he came over and subtly suggested that he should dry fire the weapon first. He walked my friend step-by-step through all the safety and shooting techniques of the weapon. He stayed with my friend as he shot the first few rounds and then left. He came back several times and checked, offering different stance, grip and breathing techniques. The clientele group here are primarily law enforcement or firearms enthusiasts. The customers were friendly and were eager to help improve my friend's shooting techniques. The facilities are clean and set up professionally. They have a decent amount of weapons on sale and I was impressed with their reasonable prices. Their new firearms were being sold cheaper than I bought a used low-end firearm from the Thruway Market years ago. The store is stocked with a variety of accessories. After seeing how this place operates while bringing my friend there, and after seeing how cheap their prices are, I'll be going there frequently. read more

Great indoor range for pistols, shotguns and .22 rifles. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very reasonable prices on ammunition and supplies. They also have a modest size gun store, new and used. Parking is convenient They also have several range guns for rent. I love this range. I usually go twice a week to shoot my rifles (.22, 30 Cal, and shotgun) with my husband. The prices are average, but since we like to shoot so much, we bought the family plan for about $550 a year (unlimited range time for a year for entire family). The membership has already paid for itself. The range is 25 yards long and they have plenty of stalls. The staff there are awesome, helpful and very knowledgable. The owner, Alice, is just the nicest person you will ever meet. They also have shooting leagues that are open to everyone. Obviously they have rules, which they will explain to you when you go. What a great experience, I haven't fired a rifle in about 15 years. I'm basically a newbie to the game. I approached the gentleman that handled the front and explained my situation. He wore a sweatshirt labeled "Richie", (not sure if that was his real name, but whatever). After explaining myself, he directed me to a fellow staff member, who instructed me on how to use my firearm and rules of the range. He was extremely informative and had extensive knowledge of my rifle. I had a great experience coming here, I can't wait to come back. Be honest about your experience with firearms before you come here, bring safety eyewear and ear protection. If you don't have it, they sell them there at decent prices. read more

This place is great for shooting pistols, .22 rifles, HiPoint carbines and such. No attitude, laid back place. Limited supply of reasonably priced ammo. Cheaper range time than the competition. Free targets available. Range officers are very helpful and have fixed problems with my technique with just a few minutes watching and a few helpful tips. Highly recommended. read more

Had a very poor interaction last time I visited here. Been coming to Master Class since I moved to the area, and even bought my last gun from here. I always had a good experience and recommended this place to my friends. When I went in to use the range, I brought my shotgun, and when I entered the shop, I was threatened by one of the staff that "He was about to draw on me" citing that I entered a gun shop/range with a gun "unholstered", regardless of the fact I entered with the chamber open, and gripped it by the center of the weapon, not shouldered, not barrel first, but where the barrel met the receiver and pointed at the ground. After first asking how he expected me to "holster" a shotgun with an 18 1/2 inch barrel, he stated it should have been in a case. After he stated that it was shop policy, I replied that I understood and wouldn't argue the fact, yet he still decided to double down, stating "there isn't any arguing, that's the policy" and continued his disrespectful rant. I've been to probably 50 gun shops in my life, (heat of the moment I said 100) and have never had an incident like this happen. My issue isn't with the policy however, a shop has the right to institute any policy they wish, instead how the policy was handled. When I went to another gun shop, not 2 miles from Master Class, the employees scoffed at what happened to me and agreed that it was a gross over reaction to a common sight in gun shops. Might I also add that the policy is not posted anywhere that I could see either inside or outside the shop. I don't think I will be returning to this place unfortunately as long as the employee I interacted with is still employed there, and have since decided to take my business elsewhere. I would however be open to discussing the issue with the owner, Alice, but have yet to be able to contact her through the shop. read more

You can not stand and shoot, and their prices are inflated for range time and supplies. They and their fanboys take great pleasure at trashing Davis, but the facilities there are ventilated and longer distance. The boss is cool and down to earth, got me a good price on a gun I wanted. Some of their staff are short on people skills. Since they are the only game in town, they get away with inflated prices. Acres of waste land adjacent to the property would make an excellent 100 yard range, but they're not hearing it. A microcosm for Monroe: cop-world. read more
