The place seems professional but you are very very limited in number of rounds to shoot and time. I felt pressured the second I was preparing to shoot. This is the second time that be been there in the past year. Both times were great. This one was amazing. Fast, friendly and helpful. The range office was Rich. He was the best. Super relaxed and super knowledgeable. We talked, exchanged a few jokes and had a great morning talking about firearms. I was having trouble zeroing my rifle. I've been to other ranges and they just didn't have the equipment or help I needed. Rich gave a few suggestions and watched with his binos as I shot. We both talked about what was up. Long story short he got me on paper and then acted like a spotter while I zeroed in. All this while he was helping other folks on the range. Above and beyond. All in all I zeroed two rifles with his guidance AND it was fun. Not a bad morning Guys out in the showroom helped me with ammo and some equipment I was considering. Just a great experience over all. I went to one store and they couldn't get my string back on my bow so they sent me to the other store. I drove 30 min to get to the store and the guy there was awesome and helpful. Put the string back on my bow 5 min with the press and he was like 50$ !?? I said what ? 50 ? I just got cables and string replaced for 30$ at another bow shop and just to put the string back on on one side is 50$ ??? He was like that's the price that I was told to charge you !! What's the charge usually??? He said 20$ !! Sooo your boss from the other store trying to rip me off !!! I told him to pull the string out and I would go to my bow shop to fix it at no charge. He said I'm not sure why he told me 50$ but I'll charge you 20$. Do nothing go here if you are from out of town they will rip you off or ask for the price before you get anything service. read more

My buddy who is military and currently law enforcement in that area went to buy .223 full metal jacket 500 round box clearly marked with $168.99 on the top right of the box. When he tried to pay the guy told him it would be $270 when my buddy showed him the price the guy behind the couter stated "it was the price before the sh#t hit the fan". If he would have tried to make a $20 or $30 dollar mark-up it would not be so bad but he marked it up $100 bucks. My buddy called him out on it and he got upset and butt-hurt. I will make it my mission to make sure that all the surrounding communities that are mainly law enforcement and military know about what these clowns are doing in our time of need whe dealing with this corona virus pandemic. You dont mess with those communities because your pockets will hurt guaranteed. The customer service is horrendous especially with the range officer. Master arms in Sloatsburg or the range at monroe. This is a shooting range. It's not a department store or a restaurant. If a weapon is mishandled, someone can lose their life. With that said, I'm not sure why all of these reviews are upset because the range master was "curt" or "rude". The guy doesn't know you from a hole in the wall, and you have a gun in your hand ready to shoot...I'd be curt and rude also until I got to know you. This place is great, I enjoy shooting here when I get some time. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there is a lot of "dead" space on the retail floor and no waiting area for the range. It gets busy on the weekends and it would be nice to have a place to sit. read more

Multiple people I spoke too said negative things about the people who work there. I figured I would give them a shot and to be honest, everyone was correct. Stopped in to Davis' when in the market for a new handgun. Went to the Gun counter in the back where a I found 3 or 4 'customers' being waited on by 3 employees. While waiting "my turn" I browsed the guns and prices in their counter. First thing I noticed is their prices are very expensive. While browsing I catch snippets of the conversations with the 'customers' and it became apparent to me that a couple of the customers were just "hangers around" "buffs" just there to shoot the breeze. Me, I'm a potential customer and am just being ignored. Well, after 20 minutes or more of being ignored, I left. Never having the opportunity to price the gun I went there to buy. In me they lost a potential and future customer as I'll never go back. I'm not a 'collector' of firearms by any means but I find myself buying something every year or two. read more

Been there a few times and found the place to be highly over priced, both their range fees and their stuff for sale. Saw a nice pistol there, but was able to get it brand new for about $250 less at another store over in Dutchess county. The staff at Davis, is "less than friendly" to put it politely. I went there many years ago and the place was great, Really cool friendly staff, I fired my shotgun, .30-06 with any ammo I wanted, standing, sitting whatever. I went back recently because it was winter and they had the 100 yard indoor range. I don't know if the guy was the owner or just a worker, but he had a USMC cover on and he was very arrogant, almost like he immediately looked down on you and was condescending. I wanted to zero in my sons new rifle and he wouldn't let me shoot my ammo, wanted me to buy ammo there. He told me the rifle was too powerful for my son and I should buy him a .22 and come shoot instead. First off, my son is 15, 6'3, and 170 lbs, I think he can "handle" a Remington 700 .30-06. He's supposed to hunt deer with a .22? Mind your business dude, just take my money and give me my lane. I can't put into words just how off-putting the staff here is. Great, you were a Marine, me too (I just don't walk around in partial uniform 40 years after I got out). Great you can shoot, me too. I can't imagine how arrogant and rude the guy would be to someone just getting into shooting. Just left. It's Saturday afternoon. It's more expensive than the place my boyfriend goes to. No waiting area if you're waiting for a lane. Not many lanes. You have to shoot a rifle sitting down, 5 consecutive shots and then you have to stop for a bit, minimum 25 yards away from target. On the upside, they have good ventilation. read more

Read a lot of reviews about how the staff is unfriendly. I didn't experience this at all. They aren't corny or overly nice, but in my opinion they take their jobs seriously and don't mess around when it comes to people they don't know which I respect. The counter people were helpful, and the range officer was a super friendly cool guy. He was an older gentleman I believe his name was Rich. He helped me sight my new rifle in and came back every grouping to help me adjust and give me pointers and info. He alone made my experience there great. Because of him I was able to get it zeroed at 100 yards within 10 minutes. Would highly recommend this business and will be going back soon. read more

yea, the staff isnt all warm and fuzzy but they're no better or worse than most ranges. as far as im concerned when you walk onto a range the RSO should assume you're an idiot until you prove you're not so i get where they're coming from and I don't have a problem with them being that. Keep in mind you're in a room with 8 or 10 other people with loaded weapons - I dont know who they are and they don't know a damn thing about me. I'd rather have someone be a little rude to me than just assume everyone's all good and have some lunatic or imbecile put everyone in danger. my personal experience ... the RSO was curt in the beginning but once he saw that I knew proper range protocol and know what i was doing he was very helpful and friendly. there's plenty of ranges in jersey where it's a free for all. anyone and everyone can shoot what they want ... never shot a gun ... here's your AR, have it. On the positive side: This range is the only 100 yard indoor range in the lower Hudson Valley that I am aware of. The facitlity is newer and well kept. They have a wide selection of guns and accessories and they are conveniently located a few minutes off route 17. The range track system is digital, which is nice so all you have to do is punch in some numbers and the target moves to the position on its own and in the meantime it gives you a few extra seconds to load your magazine. However, in my opinion (as well as the opinion of many of my friends and associates), I feel that the cost ($22.50) per hour is more than the prevailing rate for the area. It's great that you can shoot a high powered rifle, but there are far too many rules which takes some of the fun out of it. First, all rifles have to be shot sitting down on a bench. Secondly, they limit you to only 5 rounds in your magazine. I thought NY was ridiculous with 10 round mags, but 5 rounds? Come on!!! I have some pre-ban, 30 round mags and it would be great to unload a mag in one sitting. Next, the want you to count seconds between shots. No rapid firing. Really? How is that fun for AR shooters? They evenmake you sign a form that says you are legally resonsible to repair his rail system if one of your shots hit the rail at a minimum of $250. I don't think I have ever had to do that for any range. The store part of the facility is nicely equipped with various weapons and accessroies. However, the weapons are mostly overpriced. I asked what they would charge me for a Stag Arms AR15 and they qouted me over $1000. I got the same exact rifle at a shop in Hopewell Junction for $200 cheaper and they were very helpful. When I last shot there, I had some difficulty sighting in my rifle, as i did not have the proper front sight post tool and the tip of a bullet wasn't doing the job. After finishing up my hour, I asked who I think was the owner if they have one I could use or buy and he was sort of snide and kurt. He just said, "No! You need to go to Brownells and buy one!" I was surprised at the reaction. I was more than willign to buy one if he had it. I mean he is a gun shop, range, and gunsmith, what gunsmith doesn't have one? I'm sure he did and he was just annoyed that I asked when selling his overpriced guns was his top priority. I guess he doesn't realize that he is way overpriced and that once the person buys from him and realizes they overpaid, they will go to Cabelas in PA, Bob Lounghnsburys in Middletown, Master Class in Monroe or Collector Rifle & Ammo in Hopewell Junction. Unfortunately, unless you are there to buy a gun or you are a regular, they don't have much time for trivial questions. I've been there a few times and each time is the same. When I was looking at guns, I was treated with respect; otherwise, I was treated as second class. It would be wise to remember that the people that are paying to use your range are the ones who are more likely to be your repeat customers, the real bread & butter. read more

I was in Davis Sports in Goshen my first time about three years ago and asked about the range and shooting my shot gun there. I wanted to try out and make sure the brand new shotgun I puchased at Gander Mountain was OK. I got a short lecture about how I was going to shoot up his range and maybe damage something with shotshells. Never went back for that purpose again. I eventually went back two more times to ask about a certain rifle I was searching for and definitely make a purchase if they had it there or order it if the price was fair. I stood at that front counter for about 15 solid minutes while the one counter man was talking to what seemed to be his old buddies judging from the conversation. I didn't see the item in the displays so I was kind of leaning over the counter squinting and just pretended I was looking for a rifle as not to be rude and say Hello, can you help me. Long story short. He never once came over or asked if he could help me. I guess I didn't fit his description or criteria of a serious customer or just didn't like my looks and he just blew me away. I left. What's not to like. Beats me! I went back weeks later to try again when the store was pretty much empty and nobody at the counter and stood by the counter for a few minutes and thought to myself S.O.B! I left again empty handed. I eventually found the rifle online and used Master Class in Monroe, NY to make the transfer. I had the rifle in about 4 days and paid them I think it was $25 dollars for using his FFL to make the transfer. I eventually did that again to transfer one more rifle about a year later. They were very helpful and seemed courteous enough compared to the arrogance over at Davis Sport Shop. Now after reading all these negative reviews about Davis Sports Shooting range, I will never step foot back in there again. Must find another range somewhere. No idea how that's going to work out. I have been travelling to this range for many years. Primarily during the off season when my normal ranges are closed during the winter. The facility is very well maintained. Compared to other indoor ranges I have visited in both NY and CT, this facility is top notch. Excellent ventilation system keeps up with the load even when the line is full. The rates are very fair. The RSO is professional and knowledgeable. As a certified NRA RSO, I feel confident and comfortable with the level of safety on the line. The automated carrier system is great and offers a shooter distances all the way out to 100 y, INDOORS. Back when the ammo crisis was in full swing and people were panic buying and hoarding, I could always count that a trip to the shop and a quick question for Dave, and they could get me what I needed. Get there early and avoid having to wait for a lane. It is a popular spot. read more

Had two good experiences here until today. I recently received my pistol permit my boyfriend (who is a pistol instructor and he's been a regular customer) has been taking me to get used to my new pistol. We have shared a lane both times as he is instructing me. Today we walk in same as usual and are told they must not have noticed but that's not allowed we have to have two lanes we can not share with a pistol. How am I supposed to learn when they are asking me to be in a lane on my own??? And honestly how good of an idea is that for his business if I'm not fully comfortable with this gun? The older mostly bald gentleman didn't care no remorse and he was the same man we paid last week for 1 lane and he asked how my first time shooting my pistol was as I walked out. If they are worried about making more money they should charge per person and now they have lost two customers. I have to add a star. Ive always said they do things right here bt its a little bit pricey. Well I wasn't comparing apples to apples. This is the only place around here with a great indoor range that allows rifles and pistols. Its very clean and well run. Of course having land or your own outdoor range is better but I can't fault this place for that. They provide something this area does not have. That's all I have to say about that. Cons: Pricey, they have this ridiculous "no steel core ammo" policy forcing people buy their ammo. The exact problem is with "Prevailing Rates in the Area," as mentioned by the previous poster, who also said they are the only game in town. There is no competition nearby where I can shoot centerfire rifle. The personality differences between these owners and the owners at Masterclass is like night and day. Forget it. On the good side, The man (Dave) behind the counter is wonderful, very knowledgeable, professional, and down to earth. Meet any R.O. an you will think you went to the dark side. The rumors are true. The older R.O. on Saturdays is a very petty person with a large ego. He is downright rude to customers and will remind you in 5 minutes when your 50 minutes is coming to an end. He makes his own policies and scolded me in front of my family about retrieving my own brass. I left Davis as a customer, yet with my tail between my legs. I had thought I paid for 60 minutes of range time. This man needs to be spoken to about his manners. The younger R.O. on weekdays is clueless in a different way, he also can't tell time, and is really in it way over his head. Doubtful he could handle an emergency. The third, and best weekday R.O. is friendly and helpful but his ideas of how to place the target vary. All in all, three visits total, 2.25 bad experiences with Rang Officers. read more

I went in full knowing this place has very mixed reviews. I actually enjoy going to places with mixed to bad reviews for the fun of it just to see how bad it is. So knowing this, I went in with an open mind, ready for anything to be thrown my way. Let's start with the facility, it's actually a pretty nice place. The store has a lot of accessories, parts, and other oddities. At the time of writing this, its currently $22.50 an hour per person so that its a pay-as-you-go system, no memberships here. Otherwise you can't go wrong with a 100-yard range thats indoor. Now the range is rather odd. If you bring a rifle, you MUST be in a sitting position on what is the equivalent of an office chair...that moves. The chair cannot be locked in place. Now I'm still new to the world of guns, but if you're gonna be shooting from a sitting benched position, shouldn't the chair not move like most any other range with benches? While on the range you are only permitted 5(five) rounds in your weapon, despite the fact that NY law states that you may have 10 rounds rounds in your gun while at an officially sanctioned range which I found strange. Now this is where many people have been voicing their issues. I've gone here several times now to get a real feel for it. Depending on which time of week you go, you will have two different Range Officers. One that works weekends only, and another that works during the week of Monday through Friday. Let's start with the weekend Range Officer, if you read many other reviews you'll come to see that he's a very unpleasant brutish man. He will watch you like a hawk, as if you're up to no good. What I found ironic is the man was self aware of all the bad reviews, if you're aware perhaps you would take that into consideration to do better but I guess that's not the case. He will also walk around with his big magnet checking everyone's ammo to see if its steel-core rounds because the back stop isn't rated for that type of ammo, which I will not argue with that. Granted I had older surplus ammo which i didn't know the actual history of so thats my fault. But no where on the website nor did they really check upon arrival. I'll talk about that later. Continuing on with this R.O., he can also be disrespectful. For example, my friend had brought his AR-15, once he was done shooting and checking that the chamber was clear, he proceeded to disassemble his gun, which means separating the upper and lower receiver and pulling out the bolt carrier group, therefore the gun could not be used or cause any harm. The R.O. walks over and then proceeds to yell at my friend regarding muzzle awareness, he then walks over to a different group of people and decides to talk negatively about my friend regarding what had just happened in full view of my friends and I. Afterwards we had just left in annoyance because of this unpleasant experience and it had left a sour taste in our mouths. Moving on to the weekday, my friends and I decided that we would go during the week when it wouldn't be as busy, I believe it was a Tuesday. The atmosphere was much calmer for one thing, and once we had stepped onto the range we were surprised to find a different range officer who was actually polite. He made sure that we had all the proper safety gear and went over all the rules of the range meanwhile the weekend R.O. had failed to do either of those. He was also helpful with seating arrangements as the shooting position can be switched from right to left. He also asked the necessary questions of what we were shooting and what type of ammo when we entered the range itself. The weekend R.O. only asked once we were given our lane and setting up. My friend and I proceeded to shoot calmly without someone watching over us the entire time. He would only come over to check on us that everything is going okay, asking if were having any issues, if we needed any help with anything, we were pleasantly surprised. I had noticed that he was doing this for everybody that had been there that day, checking on everyone, asking how they're doing and if they needed any help. Other than that, he minded his own business and let everyone do their own thing. It was a total opposite of an experience from the first time I had went. So verdict here is, I do not recommend going on the weekends, you'll probably have an unpleasant time. I do recommend going here during the week, you will more than likely have a good time. Their website is pretty useless. Unless you're looking for product info which is almost non-existent, a small gallery of pictures, testimonials of only 5-star reviews, and directions & contact information then it's not very helpful. Most of the links on the website just go right back to the main page or the top of the original page. So it's either a broken website or they paid someone to make a half-assed website to look official. There's no sections regarding any rules or what you can and cannot bring. read more
