I can readily admit that I know nothing about shooting skeet. My entire frame of reference comes from playing Duck Hunt as a kid, and it turns out they aren't that similar. First of all, actual shotguns? Way more fun. Loading, shooting, hell, even carrying them is more fun than that little grey gun. Missing is still fun. Popping out the shells from an over & under style shotgun, also fun, even if you catch one in the face from time to time. Really, the only thing that's the same about Duck Hunt and shooting at Mid-Hudson Sporting Clays is the dog that giggles at you after you miss. But at Mid-Hudson, he looks a lot like my friend Henry. Basically, what I'm trying to say, in a roundabout and borderline idiotic way, is that I actually love coming here. The staff is nice, they make it easy to rent a shotgun if you need one, and there are around 20 different spots to shoot along the course. It's also only mildly concerning that they ask that you put down some next of kin on the release form :) Whether you're a rank beginner (me) or an experience shooter and/or hunter (a couple of my friends), this is a great spot to shoot. read more

My go=to place for sporting clays. Everybody is professional and courteous and the targets are awesome.

I took my son there for our first sporting clays experience. It was a cold winter day but the owner Terry and Quinn, the instructor who took us out, couldn't be warmer! Gun range employees can be a mixed bag in my experience, but the Mid-Hudson Sporting Clays guys were 100% nice. The facilities are varied and interesting, and they provide you with everything you need to get started I highly recommend this place!!!! read more

I went shooting for the first time at Mid-Hudson and had a really great experience. My friend and I took a 1 hr instruction course with Terry, who was very patient and encouraging (even in the 20 degree weather). After the 1 hr course, which mostly consists of practice shots at 1 target range, you can pay for additional ammo & gun rental to try other target stations. There were so many of these that we only tried 3 additional ones after our lesson. This was such a fun activity to do during our upstate NY weekend visit and a great arm/shoulder workout! read more

They've got a big course and lots of shorting obstacles. Pricey but good prices for what is offered. My friends & I did begginer course with Quin. He was fun, relaxed and a great teacher/instructor. He gave advice & instruction on each shot. He really knows his stuff, and it shows in his instructions & safety. We had a blast. I'll be back next time I'm in New Paltz. read more

We drove from New Jersey to sample the course which was esthetically very nice. Good targets set and very challenging. Everything went pretty well until we were paying for our rounds in the club house. We were charged for the round, however, we were also charged for the presentation pairs. I have only been shooting for approximately six years, not long, but have traveled to many clubs in the US. This was the first that I was ever charged the presentation pairs. Just a suggesting, I would advise the management to post a notice or stipulated the requirement on the score cards, stating that "presentation pairs" will be added to your total cost. Dave read more

Just took up sporting clays middle of last year for the matter was the first time i ever shot a shotgun or any gun for that matter. The people are great the course is constantly changing ever so little to keep it interesting. since i have been going i have joined as a member and try to get there at least once every two weeks .
