So much fun! We had "trackers" placed around our necks and were blindfolded then led into our room. We were Taken! and we had one hour to get out before our captors would be back. Clues, big and small, helped us open padlocks to find puzzle pieces, keys to unlock our trackers and unlock a second room, then more puzzles leading us to the final clues to open a hidden door so we could crawl out and escape with 4 minutes to spare. Taken was the challenge we conquered. This was so much fun. As you start your challenge you are handcuffed and blindfolded and lead into a room and it starts after your storyline tells you what your challenge is about. You have taken a ride from an stranger at the airport only to find out you are being held captive. The goal is to escape the room in 60 min. This is a game of team building and teamwork. Location was St Charles and pricing was $31 per person. Waiver has to be signed. Staff was friendly and helpful with the clues. Ample parking, spacious challenge rooms and lockers provided to store your belongings to keep you hands free. Restroom needed attention. I will definitely be back ! read more

This was some of the most fun I've had for a work outing in years!!!! We are all smart people and this was a hard task for us. Took us just about the entire hour to get out. One person holds a walk-in talkie to ask for clues. Periodically, whoever was on the other side would give us clues. We assumed it was apart of our allotted three official clues. I wish they were more clear on if we have used them or not. We finished and only used 1 "official" clue. We could have gotten out sooner! So be sure you clarify! Another 5-star review for Mastermind St. Charles. We live close to another escape room and have been visiting there for a couple of years, but the quality has gone downhill and I wanted a really good experience for my daughter's 12th birthday party. We took a group of 10 11/12 year old girls on a 30 minute drive to go to Mastermind based on my previous good experiences here. The girls did the Merry Grinchmas room, chosen because it looked like it would have a lower complexity level and it would not be scary. The girls had a blast! They got good hints from the game master (Gabe) and he was very proactive with them when they looked like they were getting stuck. There was a good variety of different types of clues and 2 rooms. They especially liked the entrance to the second room. They were able to escape with 1 minute remaining (thanks in large part to help from the game master). I really appreciated that the staff were more interested in the girls having a good time than worrying about how many clues/prompts they were giving. He even told the girls that he would let them finish the room even if they ran out of time and didn't "escape". I am more than happy to go out of my way to go to Mastermind over other escape rooms. Wow! Thank you so much for making my birthday surprise come through! The owner took the time to open up when a staff was out sick so we could keep our reservation. This was greatly appreciated by my boyfriend since it was all a surprise to me. Our group had so much fun and the owner (sorry I don't remember his name) did such a fantastic job as our game master. Did the Da Vinci room for my daughter's 18th bday. The room looked good, however, some of the clues were not intuitive. My family and I have done escape rooms before and this is not on our list of favorites. One clue didn't work even when the staff member was with us and she was pushing the remote button in her pocket. Needed to use a black light at one point and there was so much light in the room you had to be 2 inches from the clue to see it. Won't return!!!!! Disappointed my daughter on her birthday. read more

Came here with some friends awhile back. We did the one escape room where you had to save your friend from being jailed for a false crime. It was super fun. The puzzles were extremely entertaining and some of them were a challenge to figure out. There were a couple of times where the puzzles would try and trick you into false locations. That being said, you still need to completely figure it all out. This is probably the most fun if you go with at least one person that you know. The rooms do fill up fast, so be ready and get your tickets early. I went with a couple of friends and we were with a family, which was tons of fun. Of course, I would come back. The lobby is stocked with I Spy books and small puzzles to get your brain working while you wait for your room. The walls are fun - they're covered in signatures from former guests. There's comfy couches and high tops and a water dispenser. This was my second escape room and the person that made our reservation selected the hardest room they had (Electric Chair). The room can hold twelve people but we only had four, which meant less brain power to get us out. It was SUPER hard but that little thrill you got every time a lock popped open made it worth it. This was my second time doing a room escape and the first time my group beat the clock. It was thrilling! We did the Mona Lisa room and had a blast solving the clues. Use every clue, no matter how small it seems. Funniest thing is how the staff, Chauncey particularly, was equally enjoying the game and how our group solved some of the mathematical clues. Our family enjoyed our 'Home Alone!' experience despite a few hiccups. We've done rooms before and this one had more 'things to do' to keep everyone busy with the experience. Our particular room had a few clues that didn't work properly but our attendant compensated us with a wee bit more time to make up for it. My son had a birthday coming up so I talked in into going to one of the escape placed in STL. Nobody in our family had tried one of these places so after talking the family into it I held my breath that we would enjoy it. I searched online to find one for that evening and although the St. Louis places were booked, we were able to purchase tickets on their website for that evening. When we arrived we were welcomed and put at ease. The second family then arrived and we started our experience. I was the fortunate one to be put in the electric chair to start the adventure and everyone had an absolute blast. We were able to escape the room without using all of our hints with 6 minutes to spare. Only 35% escape is what we were told. Hint, take kids because their minds work better than ours. Haha. They don't necessarily overthink things. The other thing was I was originally apprehensive of being with outsiders in the situation but it actually made it even more fun. Great time by all of us and I'm sure this is the first of many to come. read more

This place was the only thing on the to-do list when my party first arrived in St. Louis. The building and location are very nice and clean, and not the typical warehouse-type building you normally see for escape rooms. The staff was one of the friendliest, helpful, and entertaining that I've ever come across. My party (two of us) did the DaVinci's Workshop room and it was very well put together. It wasn't all about art or inventions like I was expecting, and the puzzles were really fun to work through. It did seem a little linear towards the middle, to the point where it felt like a big group would have people not doing anything at certain times because there was only one thing to work on. We were able to escape the room with about 12 minutes remaining and only using one clue (which we almost didn't need...ugh!). After the obligatory picture, we got to sign the wall with the other thousands of names written all over them, which was pretty cool that we hadn't seen before. If returning to the St. Charles location, they recommended the Diamond Heist, and the St. Louis location they recommended The Castle and Creepy Lair. The next time we come back to St. Louis, these rooms will definitely be at the top of our list. read more

My husband and I did two rooms at the Mastermind St. Louis location that were so good, we decided to come over to St. Charles to do one at this location as well and we are SO GLAD we did! We did The Shed, and we both agreed it was easily the best room we've ever done. We felt all elements were really well executed, and although the props weren't hollywood level or anything, they were done as well as they could be and the game master we had was STELLAR (I wish I remembered her name, but thank you!). The Da Vinci Workshop escape room was decorated nicely, however, the puzzles were not intuitive even for adults to solve. Also, when the game master was asked for clues, she gave extremely vague and misleading clues, which caused us to not only waste our hints, but our dwindling time as well. Not only were the hints poor, but at one point, there was a puzzle in the room where we had to hold hands and touch something on the wall. Two members of our party did this and nothing happened, so we abandoned that line of thinking. At the end, the game master said we should've done this all along, which she showed us. However, this puzzle was only accomplished by the game master clicking a button, which she she hid in her pocket. This button did not work the first time she clicked it, so overall some of the puzzles were not user friendly. I went in with high hopes, as it was my birthday, and I came out disappointed with the experience. We have done escape rooms before, so we know the general drill, however, this one was very disappointing and I don't think it warrants a return. read more

I arranged Masterminds Room Escape as an outing for me and some colleagues from work. There were some reluctant participants initially, but once the first clue was solved everyone got into the spirit and had a great time. We had a dinner afterwards where some additional colleagues met up with us and the Escape room experience was a lively part of the evening conversation. Everyone had their own take on which puzzle was the hardest and how THEY contributed to the solution ;) We had 9 people and none of us had done anything like it before. We did The Electric Chair with a group of four and Da Vinci's Workshop with a group of three, and managed to escape both in time. The puzzles in both rooms were creative and unique and The Electric Chair made especially good use of technology. The staff were friendly and gave useful and timely hints. I'd recommend three or more people for both of these rooms--there are enough things to work on at once to keep everyone busy. The downtown St. Louis location is fantastic too. read more

Spoke to Dorothy who booked the DaVinci room for us over the phone. We drove 30 minutes to get there only to be told upon arrival that they were understaffed and we would not be able to play our room. Our evening was ruined, and we didn't even receive an apology. We've played over 40 escape rooms in 8 different states, and we have never been turned away for a booked room before. This was an EXTREMELY unprofessional and unacceptable way to treat customers. read more

I manage a department that was in need of a team building event and thought this would be a great idea to try and get all of my employees working together as team. Unfortunately, due to a VERY unforeseen situation occurring the day before our booking, 2 employees were let go. Needless to say our reservation was the last thing on our mind. When we showed up, I asked the worker if there was any way we could get a refund for the 2 employees and their spouses that I had paid for, and they told me there was nothing they could do. I again explained the situation, as being something completely out of my control and asked if they could at least provide me with a weekday credit for the 4 reserved slots I had already paid for. They immediately said there was nothing they would do for me. I understand that this place has a business to run, but was seriously disappointed with their lack of understanding and no offers to try rectify the situation. At the end of the day, the escape room we did - the electric chair; was okay, when we officially "escaped," we didn't even realize we had completed the mission, the girl opened our door and said "Great job, you guys escaped" but we had no idea the mission was over/or that all the clues had been solved. All in all it was a fun time, but the lack of a manager not trying to help with an unexpected situation occurring has me not wanting to return to Masterminds. read more
