Fast forward 30 years... last week, I found myself in their Markham location with my son who is just starting out in his train hobby. Since we're new to trains, we have no idea what we're doing but the staff were very patient and kind to us. They were welcoming & friendly and didn't blow us off. They took the time to explain some key things to us (which are probably really simple to them, but again, we are clueless!). They also helped us figure out if our used parts would work and pointed us towards small but important items we would need to be successful. I felt like they really cared about starting a newbie out right. We can't thank the staff enough for their kindness. We arrived at their store completely "blank" and left with great knowledge and excitement. THANK YOU!

They were recommended to me by Credit Valley Railway in Mississauga (a competitor) as the place to take Lionel products for repair. I had bought a Lionel Polar Express train set in December 2018 to have at our place for our grandchildren to play with when they visited. Although I like trains, I have never been in a position to have a set, but decided to take the plunge for our grandchildren. Within a year, the train stopped being controlled by its remote control. To the best of my knowledge there is not an other way to control the train, other than by the remote. I took the locomotive and tender to George's Trains on December 15th, 2019 for repairs. I asked if the repairs could be done by Christmas and they said "no". Fair enough. It was an inquiry, not a request or demand. Two calls by me over the next eight weeks, since drop off to George's, finally resulted in the comment that "8 weeks is not unusual in this business". (Full disclosure - they send this particular type of train out to a third party for repairs; they do not do repairs to this particular Lionel product themselves.) Again, fair enough, but why could that information not be given out at the time I dropped off the equipment? Further comments from the staff person I talked to was that they are "absolutely swamped" and they have no idea of when repairs to my set would be done. The person I talked to was reluctant to call the third party repair place to get information for me because if they did that for everyone, it would "slow down their business so that nothing else would get done". Aside from the seeming lack of communication or customer service, I am having a tough time deciding if the original cost of the train set should be written off as a sunk cost and give up the idea that having a train set for our grandchildren is worth it. But their stock is always really current. Full of kids on the weekend. Some whining trying to convince their parents to get them then latest items.

As I bought the gift at full price I was expecting a store credit ...but no. So what to do??? I said it does not say that on the bill. Their reply... well you didn't ask. Pretty solid location in the Beaches and I happened to come here during the weekend right before…read morethe grey lockdown came into effect in Toronto. There was already a line at 9:00 and I thought I was being an early bird! The store has a pretty wide variety of toys for all ages and they are laid out into neat little corners or walls for different categories. The staff are really knowledgable and helpful. I was looking for a particular kid's book for 10 minutes on my own through the shelves and should have just approached them earlier. They were able to eventually find it in the backroom after checking their inventory system. The staff also are good at offering suggestions if you are stuck with choosing a gift. I was stuck so they were able to help give me some ideas that helps me make a decision. This location has curb-sidebside pick-up and they mentioned that they will still have regular stock coming in as well.

Once in Bowmanville I went shopping for groceries at Foodland. Coming out of the store I noticed a Bn Store, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, In I go; met John and told him how happy I was to find a Bn store in Bowmanville and proceeded to tell him my story. That's all I can tell you. They pronounce it weird. Trust me." Anyway, I also picked up some toys she considered rather righteous, some Shrinky Dinks and a build-your-own motorized Ferris Wheel. Simply put, Scooter Girl is that toy store that every city should have, the antithesis to Toys-R-Lame, with a selection of hands-on, educational, as well as tongue-in-cheek, playthings.

Only problem, it was hotter than hell in there and the humidity was unreal ! It was already too hot outside, but yet cooler than in the store. I had to leave earlier cause I couldn't take the humidity.

Guy who owns the store with his wife was very helpful in helping me find some train toys and related accessories for my little nephew. Like other posters have mentioned they are very honest, knowledgeable and patient. The store has a fair selection of toys that are reasonably priced from what I saw but what sets them apart is the service. If your looking for knowledgeable, friendly staff that doesn't try to upsell you on the most expensive toys then this is the toy store your looking for.

They also persistently pester you for donations at the cashier, making you feel uncomfortable if you say no. I'm not sure if the cashiers are given targets as to how many customers they need to get to make donations, but it feels like they do. When stuff is in stock they often have a great variety of items, including many hard to find sets or ones exclusive to Toys R Us, which at least makes it worthwhile to try here.
