You will not be disappointed - what you will be is a more confident seamster! Seriously, I was somewhat of a skeptic (I took a few classes at another nameless place in Manhattan) and was pleasantly surprised by the personal attention at this little gem of a studio. My only frustration was with scheduling. It's a little tough to get into some of the classes, so don't delay! And it's true: everything's better in BROOKLYN!

Sure i picked a fabric I absolutely love, but I just finished the second session of the 2-day beginner workshop and the skills I learned at Sweet Life Studio were priceless. I've had some experience with sewing before, but nothing formal and I definitely had some gaps in my ability, so I thought I'd sign up for a class. Originally, I chose Sweet Life because it was a good location, but I definitely think I lucked out. Sarah, the instructor is so good, not only at what she does, but in clearly explaining how to do it yourself. Her experience teaching classes is evident, because she is able to skim her knowledge so that she can deliver a clear, concise workshop, where you leave with a completed project, as opposed to a random assortment of tips and half-taught skills. At the same time, she is open to questions and really gives the personal attention any beginner would need to feel confident. For the first session, I used my own sewing machine and then we realized the stitches weren't coming out right. Because she is truly a DIY kinda person (check her blog - www.verysweetlife.com), she was immediately able to identify the mechanical issue. That being said, I was unable to use my machine for this second class, but I was able to use one of hers, which I think is so generous, since I am still a beginner :) Anyhow. I could go on, but I hope my point is clear - if you're a beginner or want to increase your skills, check out the workshops and sign up. You won't leave disappointed. SHORT REVIEW: FIVE STARS…read more This is our second "semester" with Robofun and it is a great haven for children where they learn many skills for their future. LONGER REVIEW: I recently attended a tech event which focused on the future of AI and Big Data. When someone asked a big data person from IBM: "What are the important skills that children need today?" he replied: "Empathy, Teamwork, Aesthetics and Creativity" These are all of the things that Robofun provides for my daughter. At first glance it looks like the kids are just having fun but the work that the children do teaches them skills that they can apply to their future selves. The founder, Laura Hart, is a graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Education and she genuinely cares about children and what's best for them. She's also a nice person so naturally her staff and teachers are great at what they do. They care for the kids and teach them skills in a way that helps build the children's confidence and create really unique projects. I usually get pretty bored at summer camp presentations but at RoboFun, when the children presented their work, I was so impressed with the robots they created where they coded, how some composed music, how they worked closely with their teammates, and proudly presented their projects. This is an excellent learning environment for my children and they cannot wait to attend every day! FIVE STARS

Lilly, the main teacher, is energetic, warm & engaging. The classroom environment is very welcoming, like a giant, kid-friendly family room collided with a toy store! The composition of the class - free play, music, snack (or lunch, if during lunchtime) with story time, craft project, play, more music - is a very age-appropriate rhythm. Poppyseed has been a fantastic "first classroom" experience for my son and really helped him develop the comfort and confidence to be ready for separation programs and activities with his peers.

It was perfect for him because he wasn't ready to separate, so his caregiver (or I) attends with him, and now that he's nearing the end of the program, I think he'll be ready to start a 3's nursery program without having much if any separation anxiety. The simplicity (e.g. basic/ vintage toys, but lots of options) and thoughtfulness of this place is part of what I think makes it so magical. The kids also eat lunch together and have a great time interacting. My son has a "best friend" in the program already. I've heard that it's typical for kids to make lifelong friends from this program.

The space is friendly, bright and inviting. What I love most about the class... It's a 2 hour drop off class. Just send the little one with a snack and they are good to go....what!?! Parents in the neighborhood should certainly check it out. 2 hours of unadulterated freedom aside, your child will come home with a real masterpiece after each class(im not talking scribbles on a page... We are talking creative stuff!), its in an up and coming but always has been awesome neighborhood, and the children truly enjoy it!

He came in with very little Spanish, just some vocabulary and we can see his language skills really are growing. The activities they do range and always evolve to new things. The community is warm and welcoming and the Director, Admin, Staff and Teachers are absolutely top notch. One thing we never anticipated help with was guidance in selecting an elementary school. We have a complicated situation and the director and our teacher have devoted time, research, and much needed encouragement when we felt very daunted by the NYC public (and private) school system. They have done great through Covid, taking every precaution, and staying open as much as they safely can. They are just wonderful and we feel very happy that our child is there during this very important time in his life.
