My group grabbed seats just as it started to get crowded, once the music started it felt like everyone in the streets just filed in. It was packed, everyone was having fun signing and drinking ... one big party. I met and had so many great conversations with both locals and people from all over the world. Pat Cohans is famous for the fight scene in the Oscar wining movie (1951) The Quite Man, staring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara. My wife who did all of the travel bookings is an old movie buff and put Cong on our travel itinerary. It was about 3:30 p.m. when we arrived in Cong after our morning visit to the Cliffs Of Moher. We had not eaten since breakfast and quickly made the short two block walk to Pat Cohans. We ordered the double burger with fries and a side order of onion rings. It was all good. Best onion rings I've had in a long, long time. The burgers were excellent. A few of you will pick up on this this statement, "where's the beef", well it was on our burgers. The beef patties were nice and thick. Great burgers! We had a nice late lunch, early dinner.

I decided to leave it till the last pub I went to before retiring to the campsite. It turned out to be quite an interesting pub. The decor inside is a little odd with a floral pattern to all the furniture but it grew on me. There is a fireplace which is probably nice during the winter when lit. There was supposed to be live music but when I left at nearly 10pm there was no sign. I noticed a fair bit of IRA and Sinn Féin related stuff including a Sinn Féin collection box for elections and another box for the Rossport 5. Why there was a collection box for for prisoners released in 2005 I don't know but there was also posters about out them. All they did was protest a gas pipeline over their land. There is a pool table if you fancy a game. They could do with a dart board I reckon. Anyway I liked the atmosphere and the Guinness was rather good, a feature of both of the main pubs in Keel. If you are in the area and especially staying at the campsite, don't overlook this bar.
