She even shared that there are paddles for demo. I enjoyed the facilities and booked one court for 2 hours ($80) and then each non-member gets charged $15. There's a cool Piqle wall game you can play to help you with aim, speed, accuracy while at the kitchen line. My friends and I had fun!

I was turned away from joining a spot clinic for 3.0 where the other people were 3.1, 3.2, and 3.0 because I am a 2.9. a SPOT CLINIC for DRILLS! So they would allow someone with a 3.9 to do drills with them but not someone closer to the range of players. I'm so surprised they would not want to bring more people in, get more members, and grow their business. Seems they would rather be exclusive. I was also not able to get into a 2.5+ open play because a 3.34 player wanted to play down and they were full. The one time I was able to get into an open play we were short a player so the person at the desk played with us but nothing on her court could be counted for dupr because she didn't want her dupr to "tank." I am not going to try again, it doesn't feel like a welcoming community at this point.

Its amenities also include a gym with weights and cardio gear, real tennis, racquets, an events hall, great locker room, and to top it off - a fantastic bar (pool table, backgammon, and darts included). This is a traditional club and the atmosphere is exactly that. The locker rooms are dimly lit, include a sitting room, and are furnished with antiques. The bar has plenty of wood panels and antique prints. But don't be fooled -- the members are not stuffy at all. This is a group of fun, easy-going, and welcoming people. Its the best place to work out in town. And perhaps the best place to get a drink.

Great sports club, and they seem to charge a fraction of what you would pay for some of the BSSC…read moresports. Also, having played for the BSSC in the past, I definitely feel that the Llamas are a sports club first and a social club second. While there are a few social events, they are far and few between the ones the BSSC holds, which I appreciate. I wasn't a huge fan of getting emails every other day on the next big social outing. I've played dodgeball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee with the Llamas. Some of the sports are more competitive than the others, but they are all a lot of fun and very reasonably priced.

She is a great instructor, always tweaking the formats to improve our workouts and eliciting feedback from members to ensure we are getting the most out of each class. She knows everyone by name and it truly feels like a community. I have taken both the boxing HIIT class and strength and conditioning class. Boxing HIIT encompasses circuits including boxing combos on the bag, alternating with HIIT (eg burpees, jump squats, jumping jacks, etc), with rounds of dumbbell work and abs mixed in. It is truly a full body workout. I took my boyfriend to a class and he was absolutely drenched in sweat by the end. Strength and conditioning is more of a traditional circuit format with alternating exercises focused on strengthening your arms, legs, back, and core. They also have boxing technique classes, youth boxing, and kickboxing classes throughout the week, and now sparring on Sunday. They just introduced women's only kickboxing class on Saturday morning which I am super excited to try out! Overall such a great addition to the JP community and one of my fav local businesses.

BCC has several weekly tournaments to offer the chess geek who is looking for a challenge. I go…read moreoccasionally on Tuesdays for blitz games, and use to go for a month-long Swiss on Thursdays, but now I mostly restrict myself to a Wednesday-night rapid (g/30) quad (or swiss, depending on the turn-out). It is hard to find a chess club where you don't run into one of the fixtures in the chess world -- the narrow-minded eccentric who lives and breathes for the game and spends all night channeling Robert Fischer -- and although BCC is no exception, for the most part you will find yourself facing off against friendly, sociable, and very adept, experienced players. The tournaments are usually well-attended (although recently attendance has been slowing down on my favorite Wednesday night rapid), and another draw is that BCC is home to a bona-fide chess celebrity (whom I have never met personally), Larry Christiansen. All-in-all, chess players of all levels are bound to find satisfaction at the BCC.
