And, this is a biggie, they actually have sand in their sand traps. A lot of courses aren't maintaining their sand traps anymore but the ones at Echo Springs were in really good shape. I had forgotten how hard it is to hit out of the sand. Beautiful links style course. Challenging without being too difficult to have a good time.

Not overwhelming, just right. The Potato Salad, again a perfect balance between the tang of the blue cheese and the sweet creaminess of the mayonnaise dressing. It also had a tad of a back end bite that make it perfect. The Seared Chicken was done perfectly for this dish. Tender, yet a bit of char. The peaches were roasted to a perfect peach jam consistency. Thing grandma's homemade jams, except with a thinner consistency. Then a perfectly melted piece of fresh mozzarella, finished with julienned basil. Again, a great balance of sweet and savory, creaminess, and a hint of freshness of the basil. We started off with a drink( already forgotten the name) made with fresh raspberries, lemonade, and vodka blended to a frosty, blissful drink.

FULL DISCLOSURE -- like another reviewer - I was here to visit the Octagon Earthworks (mounds) -…read morenot the country club. The Octagon Earthworks are on the grounds of the country club and are generally closed to the public. There is a very small area with a viewing platform that IS OPEN to the public 365 days a year and -- from the viewing platform -- you can get a glimpse into the site. However, FOUR (4) times a year, the site is open to the public and you can actually get onto the golf course and walk among the mounds. The Ohio History Connection sponsors these 4 Open Houses (the last one for 2019 was October 13th) and has staff on-site to give talks about the earthworks and to led tours of the earthworks. We were thinking of visiting the Newark Earthworks earlier this week and were fortunate to discover that today was the last open house for the season. The view from the viewing platform is very limited. To really see these earthworks, you need to be here for one of the open houses. We went on one of the guided tours with an extremely knowledgeable young lady from the Ohio History Connection. During a 1-hour tour, she explained what they have been able to learn about the early American cultures and how there is a lot they still don't know. Despite the presence of a golf course among the earthworks, the site is still VERY IMPRESSIVE and is very much worth a visit. Check the Ohio History Connection's website for the dates of the open houses in 2020. One of the staff members at the site did indicate a special "3-hour" walking tour scheduled for November 2nd or 3rd -- again, check the website for details.

St Albans is the first golf course where I ever played 18 holes of golf when I first started…read moreplaying golf. As such, I have fond memories of St Albans and it's still one of my favorite courses. St Albans has some challenging holes (#10 - a long downhill, #15 - a short par 3 and #17 which goes forever) but, overall, it's a very friendly course and is not too intimidating for those of us who don't usually break 100. The course is scenic; it has some hilly holes and some relatively flat holes; there's plenty of water and not much in the way of sand traps or bunkers. The staff in the clubhouse is great - friendly and efficeint. And, the cost of 18 holes is pretty reasonable.

We were just a twosome and was simply trying to golf the back nine. We were crossing over at 6:40 in august were sunset isn't till 8:48 and the clubhouse was only letting walkers out. Didn't make any sense from a business aspect. Just lost $50 for the evening and sure won't be rushing to come play here. Good thing there is another course right down the road that we are able to keep on playing.

Being curious about the Maltby golf clubs I bought two seven irons. Different models with…read moredifferent shafts. They were made and shipped in 10 days. Pretty fast considering I requested a handful of customizations to the club head, shaft and grip. The components are excellent quality. The assembly is top notch. Tested them on the driving range. Compared the two Maltbys against my Ping G400 iron. I hit the Maltby KE 4 Max 30% longer than the Ping. The Maltby hits the ball more consistently straight. The Maltby ball strike feels softer and more controlled than the Ping. I'm so positively impressed that I just bought the Maltby full set from 5 iron to lob wedge. The price for the order is close to $1,000 lower than a big name brand set of golf clubs. That's money saved to spend on a golf vacation. And I'll sell the Ping G400 set (8 years old) on eBay for about the same amount of money spent for the new Maltbys. Recommended!
