This is a very late review. We moved from Hull to Carver back in August 2025 and this company did a PHENOMONAL JOB!!!!! They came with so many people and they not only moved our 2 bedroom apartment but they also assisted in emptying out my mothers 2 big POD containers. The guys that came were simply outstanding they packed everything and moved everything like it was no big deal. It was definitely a long day and we provided them with water and snacks since it was also a warm day. They even helped up save some money at the end of the day and they were very friendly that we got to know a few of them. Me and my husband were very straight forward in letting them know what we had to move and empty and they provided us with as many people as they could which was great. My only issue was that they work so fast and there was so many of them it was difficult to mention where to put some items but it got done at the end of the day. read more

I called several recommended local movers for estimates, giving my complete inventory list and details about destinations for a three way move. David at Mastodon movers reviewed the job--a couple of carpets, an office chair, a small shelf unit, 2 couches, a desk, 2 medium size statues, two bureaus. The bulk of the move was from suburban Boston to the city, then transfer several items onward to an exurban town near his office. He gave an estimate of $1300 and we agreed to use him. The move itself went without incident, the men were friendly and reasonably efficient. Mastodon then sent me a bill for $2900! That's much more than double!! I called to ask for reconsideration, they sent a bill for $2900. I've paid, but strongly recommend: BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

On Monday, a fantastic 3-person crew packed up my entire house perfectly and loaded it into a POD. The very next day, a 4-person crew went to my son's apartment, picked up his things, brought them to my house, and finished loading the rest. The company was amazing in every way. I first spoke to Dave who helped me formulate a plan and did my estimate. Scheduling was easy and convenient, and the guys were on time and very professional. They packed everything very carefully and were fastidious about not touching walls or bumping things. They unpacked and returned all my furniture and items when my construction was done. The guys even helped a bit with my refrigerator issue. It was Josh and Isaac in case you are lucky enough to get them to do your job! Pricing was reasonable. We had a complicated move during COVID-19. Overall, I was very happy with how the employees handled everything. We had an issue with some minor damage, but the owner worked with us and we came to a fair resolution. I think expecting that any moving company can guarantee your items will move from one place to another without a chance of a little damage is a fool's errand. But I do expect that they are professional, safe, and fair when an issue arises. Mastodon was all of those, so that is worth 5 stars by me. read more

Used Mastodon based on recommendations from work colleagues. Competitive rates, good, not cheapest. All good through the consultation and pack up. Everything then went into storage, perhaps that's the weak link. When, 9 months later, we had everything delivered to our new place, the issues appeared. Or disappeared, which is what happened to an ottoman, a lamp and some smaller stuff, (probably), now lost to the mists of time. Especially puzzling given the box by box inventory. Well not totally puzzling: when we looked at the inventory lists they varied wildly depending on which mover packed them. And books, and we have a lot of them, were packed in a way that insured damage: on the open end rather flat on back. Worse was the total blow off from Mastodon about all this. Disappointing to say the least. No, I would not recommend. read more

We've worked with several local and interstate moving companies in the past. This is the ONLY company that 1) up-charged us 25% more for our move than what they had estimated; 2) Broke and dented some of our furniture and has refused to provide us the insurance claim form for the replacement cost insurance coverage in our contract; 3) denies they scraped and dented a couple of our walls even though the previous homeowners had just painted the house and we did our "walk-through" the day before Mastodon moved us in. It has now been 6 months since our move. We've called, emailed and texted both JJ, the owner, and Dave Hart, the account manager, multiple times and we are beyond frustrated with them. read more

So pleasantly surprised by the experience. I've moved a lot and used professional movers before so I felt like I was going in with reasonable expectations, but even then, I thought that Mastodon's pre-move communications were very helpful in making sure we got everything we needed out of the experience. This was an in-city move so they secured the certificates of insurance and parking permits in advance. Our movers (Ryan, Matt, and Jerell) were efficient, smooth, and thoughtful. They communicated well and imparted confidence throughout the day. I failed to notice after the final walk-thru that they left one of the bedroom doors off the frame (which they had removed to get in the furniture), but they returned the next day to pop it back on, with no issues at all. I think the fact that we were very well prepped and packed before their arrival helped in making it a good experience. There was a bit of damage on one of our pine bookshelves but nothing beyond repair. Overall, one of the best moving experiences I've ever had. read more

Mastodon Moving was horrible! Their employees did damage to both my new home and my old home. Their staff is unkind, unprofessional, and unreasonable. We had to finish the moving ourselves because they were so incompetent. We were forced to take them to court in order to recover some of our losses. read more

Moving a 4 bedroom colonial to storage while we find a new place to call home is daunting and stressful. Mastodon Moving eliminated both of those feelings with a professionalism that started with the Dave and the estimate and continued as the final piece of furniture was wrapped and packed on the truck. The five person crew that arrived on-time and was focused for the next 3 hours. The attention to detail while wrapping was incredible all while being masked (for COVID) and very aware of those around them. We were very impressed with the responsiveness of everyone we talked to and contacted at Mastodon. They always got right back to us about questions. I recently worked with Mastodon Moving Company after my first moving company fell through 2 days before my move to Florida. They were great about working with my family and helping us to accommodate for a larger move than was originally expected and while all of it wasn't able to go at once, they made it affordable for us to be able to take the second half of our stuff to Florida. JJ and Elliot were the two guys that came and packed up the trailer. They got to work right away and worked very efficiently. They packed the trailer strategically trying not to waste any space which was great for our move considering there was a lot that was coming. My only two gripes was one of our new couches was ripped along the way:( Not majorly but enough for it to need fixing. After discussing it with them, they were extremely apologetic. I guess it would have been nice if they offered to fix it, but then again, that was the only thing damaged, so my feelings are it could have been much worse. While overall they saved us some money, I was slightly bothered that after the initial quote that they gave me to move from point A to B, which I made sure to reconfirm I was still charged an extra $242. All in all, I would go with them again and would definitely recommend them to others. read more

Long story short JJ and his team moved our stuffed from Wayland to ... California a long time ago but I still look around our house thankful that nothing broke between the move out and storing it and then repacking it. We even joke that if we move again here we would fly him out. read more

I was referred to Mastodon through my grad school network and I am glad I took the advice! I liked them so much that I opened a Yelp profile to give them 5 stars!!! They were professional, clean, efficient and even nice to chat with. They quoted 4-6 hours and took only a bit over 4 hours for my local move (Cambridge - Beverly). So it cost as I had expected and nothing more. I will use them again, if they are not too busy from all the new business they are going to get with these rave reviews. Mastodon Moving is as service-oriented as they come. Thoughtful and mindful are two words that come to mind, very important in this line of work. Even down to making sure our lawn wasn't touched by the truck, helpful at all times, never batting an eye, and completely professional on the phone too. We were "part" of a larger part & parcel move and delivery, and they even moved an item for us that wasn't part of their assignment, just to be helpful (we didn't ask). Way overcharged for "travel time to my origin pick up and from my destination back to their office. Movers were good but padding an extra hour in addition to the regular travel time is bull. Sorry to the delivery guys, I normally tip well but don't like this kind of treatment. read more

I had to do a short-distance move to a new apartment in Cambridge, and these guys were great! Friendly, professional, efficient. Pretty much any damage-able item was carefully wrapped, and everything showed up in perfect condition, even fully assembled IKEA laminate stuff which I know is asking for trouble. I'd use them again in a minute. read more
