I like many New Englanders this year suffered house damage from massive ice dams. My insurance company adjuster reviewed the claim and recommended Mastodon Moving to come in and pack up all our furniture for the repairs to be done. I contacted JJ and he made an appointment for Dave to come out to the house. He took an inventory of everything that was going to be stored at their facility, and we set up a date for his crew to pack it up. They arrived right on time. Took a look at everything, formulated a plan and started the process. They were very careful in wrapping all the pieces and packing them in the truck. The 4-man crew led by Baptista with Patrick, Wilver and P.J. were professional, personable and they worked like a fine Swiss watch. Recently, I decided to install new hardwood floors in the second floor of our home and needed help in coming up with a plan for moving and storing the furniture while the work was being done. Dave met with me and made it all happen. On the day of the move, the crew arrived promptly and got right down to work. Padding was put up to protect staircases and doors, furniture was professionally taken apart, wrapped in protective covering and moved with the greatest of care. Rugs and runners were wrapped in tacky plastic to protect them from any wood dust generated by the floor refinishing. The crew literally "bent over backwards" to accommodate my wishes. Later that day, the furniture was delivered safely to Mastodon's climate controlled facility in Ashland. In the end, I couldn't have been more pleased. Mastodon came up with the most efficient plan for managing the job and gave me "white glove" service at a price I could afford. I can't wait to use them again. read more

Last fall we had a delayed move that required putting our things in storage while we waited for the closing on our new house. Our realtor had recommended Mastodon Moving, and thank goodness she did! JJ and his crew handled our belongings with great care. JJ has all the tools and lots of creative ideas for fitting large items into spaces you wouldn't believe would work -- with zero damage to our stuff. Just as important, JJ was unbelievably responsive and flexible when our move-in date was moved up at the last minute. He worked with us to adjust his own schedule to accommodate us. And JJ and his guys are all very friendly and a pleasure to work with -- an important consideration when the typical house move involves 2-3 full days hanging out with a crew during packing, loading, and moving in. We hired Mastodon Moving at the recommendation of another, larger Boston-area moving company that couldn't accommodate our schedule. JJ managed to fit us in on relatively short notice, and the team was excellent -- amazingly fast but also thorough and careful with wrapping furniture and handling fragile items, including a piano. Kudos to Will and Rogelio in particular, who kept things moving efficiently and thoughtfully. I will add that there was a communications failure with JJ -- there were more movers than originally agreed to, which would have led to an upcharge, but also shortened the amount of time involved. After a phone conversation while the move was in process, JJ made things right and the move came in within the original estimate. In effect, we ended up with a discount. This review has been a long time coming! I moved in November and it was the first time I have had to use a moving company. I had an emergency which forced me to move out quicker than I had anticipated and Mastadon Moving was quick to get back to me with a quote. They were on time and treated all of my furniture like it was their own. My couch might have been one of the heaviest they have lifted in a while and they moved it with ease. They moved everything and more in the time that they quoted me. I was super impressed and would highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't want their valuables and furniture getting damaged in a move. I was referred to Mastodon Moving through the MIT Sloan network, and had a wonderful experience working with them. We had a complicated move that many other companies weren't able to handle, requiring a pickup in Boston, another stop in DC, and a final destination in Miami. JJ worked with us to make it work on our tight schedule, and everything went smoothly. The movers they sent in Boston were on time, professional, and very efficient. At times I didn't really care about certain items being wrapped in furniture pads, etc. but they were more careful with my belongings than I would have been myself. Dave gave me an estimate over the phone and although there was no contract beforehand, the estimate was exactly right, so there were no surprises. Three movers (Ivan, John J, and Ryan) arrived ahead of schedule on moving day, called us to make sure it was okay to get started, and got to work right away. They were pros -- disassembling and assembling a sleigh bed frame, wrapping furniture in blankets before moving, laying down padding on the floors to avoid leaving marks of any kind. We used Mastodon for a complicated move- out of one house, into a rental, other stuff into storage (we were building a house) then out of storage and from the rental to the new house.
