This is a well run business with an owner who cares. We have used their storage facilities on several occasions and the experience is always very positive. On a few occasions we needed a storage facility for large machinery and they were able to accommodate with a little to no effort on our end in terms of being able to obtain a price and date availability on short notice. I have moved coast to coast, across the state and to different cities - hiring at least 7-8 various moving companies. Brookline Moving Co. is the most courteous and professional outfit I have ever used. They showed up early, the ALL worked hard at the SAME time, did not leave a mark on any on my walls, no dirty hands on any bedding or furniture - super polite. I couldn't recommend Brookline Movers more highly. I got 4 quotes, 1 of which was double the others with less service. The move was a 2 day move and it went really smoothly. The guys were great and really helped keep me calm during a very stressful few days. They did a wonderful job packing my valuable art work and everything arrived in great condition. I had a 3 man crew move me from Belmont to Watertown last year. The crew was awesome. They hustled and everything got to the location in good shape and dropped off in the right rooms, etc. as I had asked. The only reason I didn't given them 5 stars is I feel as though I was extorted for a tip. The total move took 3 hours (single guy, not a ton of stuff). The total fee for the move was about 600-700 bucks. I brought out cash to give each guy 20 bucks for a tip. The lead guy looks at me and says "whoa! This is a $60 tip job, man!". I basically just said fine and handed over cash. I feel like I was shaken down by this crew. Regardless how good they are, to brashly criticize a tip offer is nasty. We had a move last week from metro west Boston to the cape. We had three different moving companies come to our home for estimates and were impressed with Brookline Moving Company right from the beginning. The person who came to the house was professional and personable. We got an estimate quickly which was significantly less than the other two. They came to the house again when we were mostly packed to make sure we were on target with the trucks and movers needed. They arrived at our home at the agreed upon time. We were amazed at the care they took to wrap our furniture to protect it and how carefully items were loaded onto the truck. Delivery day down the cape was just as perfect. Not one thing was broken or scratched. They made sure everything was placed how we wanted it before they were finished. At the end, our final bill was exactly what was estimated. Consumer advocates are constantly warning us to be aware of disreputable moving companies. I think my experience with Brookline Moving, as minor as it was, is probably a good indicator of their ethics. They moved my tenant out of my second floor apartment and there was minor damage to a wall. I got an estimate and they immediately paid it; this was after they had been paid for their work, so they had no incentive, other than to do the right thing. I had an incredibly bad moving experience with Brookline Moving Co in Walpole. Two guys showed up to move me and one of them kept introducing himself to me which I found odd. After they brought my things to my house I noticed that my sons crib was scratched along with my bed and my daughters bed. Really bad scratches on new furniture. Later that night I noticed that two checks adding up to $1400 had been cashed that day that I never wrote. Turns out the guy that introduced himself three times thought I wouldn't put two and two together and figure out it was him. I googled the fake name they were cashed under and found his myspace account with his picture and fake name all over it!! My bank reimbursed me for the stolen checks and I disputed the charges with my credit card company, which the moving company didn't try to stop. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. read more

Same experience as Christine. I had a few items to be moved, stored, and then moved into my new apartment and I got completely ripped off. I asked for 2 men, got 3 and then when I complained was told it would have taken 2 men an extra hour to move my stuff (a bed, dresser, table and about 4 small boxes) and therefore it would have cost the same. For our recent move in April, I called 3 local moving companies all recommended to me by either friends or our Realtor. Brookline Movers came in the middle of the 2 others in regards to cost, but they were willing to put a 10% cap on their estimate (so the final cost would never be more than 10% higher than our estimated cost). We were moving out of one house one day, storing our belongings overnight on the trucks and then moving into the new house the next afternoon. The guys were running late on the first day, but called multiple times with updates. It wasn't an issue for us and they still finished loading everything up within the original window given to us. All of the guys were extremely polite and helpful, working hard and extremely well together. The foreman, Mike, was very professional and thorough. The next day, the guys arrived a few minutes early and were waiting for us when we arrived from the closing. I had never used a moving company before so I honestly wasn't sure how the unloading would go. I felt like an air traffic controller standing in the doorway directing them this way and that way! Unbelievably efficient in unloading, I couldn't believe how quickly they got all of our stuff in and in the correct rooms! Mike pulled me aside to let me know there was a casualty - the base on our smaller flat screen tv had been broken. The tv still worked fine, but the base that allows it to stand on a piece of furniture had somehow broken in transit. He had already taken a picture and called into Patrick to let him know. He suggested I call Patrick to work something out. When I called Patrick a few days later, he informed me that he had already ordered me a new base and would have one of the guys deliver it when it arrived. Well, today I received a call from Patrick to let me know if had arrived and a guy was on his way to deliver it to my home. Not only did the guy deliver it, but he put it on the tv to make sure it worked! Exceptional service!! I have heard of such horror stories about things breaking and then the customer never being able to get ahold of the company Reps again. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Taking them to court. They sub lease with a company HMS vanes lines and they was HORRIBLE. The two guys who picked up my things were very nice but the two guys who dropped them of was HORRIBLE. They started telling me their life story how the truck was hit and they was running behind. They said they would still deliver as planned but just late. I did not mind the them delivering but clearly they did. They pulled up and was smoking cigarettes in front of my 3 year old daughter. I had two friends over and one of them stayed by the truck. She noticed them throwing down boxes that was said fragile on it by the elevator downstairs. She goes: the box says fragile sir and his reply was "I know but we are trying to rush." Meanwhile upstairs the guy ask my other friend to help him carry a bed and the other things in hallway. We was soooooo in shock. My friend who was downstairs by the truck/elevator said they forget there was more things downstairs. The guys was putting my bed back together when they should have gotten all the things from downstairs. So basically if my friend was there my stuff would have been left alone. They finally go get the rest of the stuff and my friend told me the truck was empty. I should have counted the boxes before they left but they was rushing. I ended of missing one box. My daughter sneakers/shoes and my belt and lamp base. I counted the boxes and it says i missing two boxes. I called both companies and they are giving me the round around. I have a mirror they was suppose to put back together and they did not because they was rushing. I wish i can post pictures. So I am taking them to court and I do NOT recommend anyone to use them especially if they go through HMS vane lines. read more

The company did nothing to help recover the property when told their employees had stolen items during a move. Patrick came to my home, and did a thorough walk through, then provided a detailed quote within 24 hours. We picked the day that worked best for us, and his team was on site at the exact time specified. The entire crew were friendly, funny, considerate, and extremely careful throughout the entire process. They wouldn't let my wife lift a finger. The crew left the new home exactly when Patrick said the job would be complete, and the estimate he provided was the amount of the final bill. They arranged everything to our specifications, and even made a few suggestions that we went with. It poured rain on our moving day, from start to finish. We had items from the attic to the basement and were still throwing things in boxes when Brookline Moving arrived. The crew we had was tremendous! They got everything loaded, negotiating 15 stairs down from the front door to the street. They also wrapped the couches and took apart a bunk bed and crib. The rain continued at the new house but our crew didn't drop anything, and patiently asked where things went even as the move went into the evening. When one of our movers had to leave, two others arrived after finishing another job, just to help get us in. The crib and bunk bed were put back together completely, everything was in its place, and despite the extra men and a twelve-hour day, the final bill came in right at the estimate. Horrible experience with Brookline Moving Company! They charge well over their quoted price and damage a lot of fragile items like glassware and china. Just like B S and Christine have mentioned. We hired them for our move our last month. Our quote was down for 2 men. Four showed up. Many items were damaged and they charged us close to 7 hours of work. We heard too from one mover who was very honest they actually only worked about 4 hours on our move...loading up the truck and moving our stuff in. Also they used a rental truck. It didn't even say 'Brookline Moving Company' on it.... was like a Budget or Ryder truck. I did see Christine's review a week ago and I no longer see it on here. Wonder if the company had it removed? We also wonder if the other reviewers... Lacey and Marcia are true reviewers or actually staff from this company???
