There's really nothing else like Matador cigars. This premium cigar lounge is the industry standard in my book. I decided to try the massapequa location to meet with a friend further west of me. I usually frequent the Hauppauge location which I've reviewed with high marks on service and quality. This spot I must say I like just slighter better. I like the fact that there's still plenty of space, but it has more of a secluded feel with separate rooms where's Hauppauge is more of an open concept. The service was just as good, being greeted right away. The gentlemen was knowledgeable and walked us right into the humidor and made some good suggestions. Prices are fair, and the selection is plentiful. Worth every smoke. read more

I'm typing up this review, smoking a stogie at Matador Happaugue. I came here for a cigar event, the place was packed out! Standing room only, one of the guys was nice enough to get me a folding chair. This location seems larger than where I usually smoke in Suffolk county. Both stores have a great selection of cigars. What this store doesn't have? Parking. The parking lot was full, I had to park on a side street to get to the lounge. As for the patrons? Everyone seems cool, I see one of the Hollywood Motors guys smoking with his buddies. The event was cool, free food and booze! I had to buy 5 cigars to get their special cigar for free. Good selection of cigars and knowledgeable assistance to help you choose if you are not an avid smoker. BUT, they have to fix the ventilation. On a recent evening there with a group of friends, the smoke was so thick that even some veteran cigar smokers had to leave or go outside for some fresh air. This place is located right on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. It's located inside of a small shopping center with a pretty decent parking lot. It's on the right of your going east next to the ihop. It was a good sign in the parking lot and on the storefront. Inside to the left is the cashier and to the right is the first smoking room with flat screen TVs on the walls. Further down to the left is the Cigar room and to the right are the Cigar lockers. All the way in the back is the other cigar room and bathroom. I went on a Friday night and they had a wonderful young lady doing the rounds in the place which was greatly appreciated. After I bought my Cigar she even cut and lit it for me. She even kept all of the ash trays clean all night long and asked for refreshments. It's bring your own drinks but she can get you cups with ice. The cashier guy was nice and put my name in the computer even when I forgot my card. He also reminded me to take my card. It actually beeps now! This place has a great selection of cigars at all price points. It's great for avid to amateur. read more

I don't come here often because I live in Brooklyn and it's quite a hike The breakdown: The venue: The venue is well lit in the main area. There's a back room with a television as well. There's also another area which is closer to the humidor. It's a little more dim for those who want a more darker ambiance. The product: I've always loved Matador's selections when it comes to cigars. I'm not actually sure if you can find a better selection in Long Island. They also have snacks and beverages for sale(non- alcoholic). The place is BYOB and Bring your own food which is amazing. The service: Now, this is why this place gets 5 stars from me. I believe the young man said his name was Wesley(sorry, im terrible with names) However, he's the manager of the establishment. He was way more than helpful. After recommending me a cigar line-up he also came to follow-up to see how the selection was going. I also can't forget Mary, super nice and informative. Congratz again on the PA program and i know you killed the test. My apologies for not having cash for a wayyy better tip you guys more than deserved it. Cigar and Pipe smokers know, it's not a friendly atmosphere out there, but there are three great sanctuaries out there (Roslyn, Massapequa, Hauppauge) and they're called Matador Cigars. Boris and his fine team know their stuff, and they have great hostess service. Friendships can be found or started at Matadors over Cigar and pipe smoking. Don't have a stick to smoke or a bowl to fill they will set you up, and have beverages also. The only negative in Nassau shops is the parking, in Hauppauge not a problem. So sit back in the oversized chairs and enjoy watching an event on one of there many flat screen televisions and relax in sanctuary. Ciao read more

I am by no means a cigar aficionado, but I do enjoy a smoke from time to time. I visited here last night (Friday 1/16/15) about 8:30 and as I expected, it was pretty crowded. I met the manager who was a heck of a nice guy and he brought a few friends and I into a nice sized walk in humidor. He was very patient and he took a few minutes explaining and recommending a large variety of his products. He did not rush any of us, which was very nice and he left us alone to make a decision. I've been to a bunch of cigar lounges over the years and this place seems to have definitely filled a niche in the area. They have some nice couches and chairs to sit back and relax, plenty of large screen televisions that are not obnoxiously loud which also allows for enjoying some conversation if you so desire. There also was a pleasant women who came around often to inquire if we wanted coffee or a cold drink (most lounges do not sell alcohol, but if you're a member you can bring in your own). I also liked that it well well lit, well ventilated and inviting, there have been a bunch I've been to that were dark and dingy. I would certainly recommend visiting, especially if (like me), you're looking to just relax for a little while in an unpretentious and easy going atmosphere. I'll be returning for sure. read more

Being and avid cigar smoker I am so glad to have such a classy cigar lounge only a few minutes away from my house. Matador has a great selection of premium cigars and a large lounge to smoke your cigar in. Since their recent expansion they added more tv's and comfortable chairs to just sit and relax. So as a cigar newbie the staff at Matador was very friendly and very informative in terms of picking out a good smooth cigar. After picking the cigar from the gigantic humidor me and some friends lit up and enjoyed our smokes. The hostess on staff was very friendly and attentive. The place does not serve alcohol but it seems that you can bring your own. It does provide beverages of the nonalcoholic type such as coffee, soda and water. We were there for about two hours of unrushed relaxation at the same time making friends with some regulars. Definitely a good place to unwind and highly recommended! read more

I've been to only a handful of lounges, shops, slash bars. This place is cozy, comfortable, and the staff do try and assist you, either upon purchasing, or relaxing in the lounge area. Probably hands down, best lounge, vibe, staff in a 15 mile radius. The selections are not as extensive as I've seen elsewhere, but big name smokes are available. read more

Knowledgeable staff that was welcoming. I like going to different lounges to see how they treat the public based off what they think their costumers knowledge is on cigars. I want to support local brick and mortars to keep the cigar industry alive. Went into the humidor and picked out 3 of the cigars I get at every shop to see what they charge, and what do you know.. $57 for three cigars that I can get online for $6 a piece, and other shops on Long Island that I can get them at $10-$12 a piece. I thought maybe it was just a one time thing so I returned to buy another 3 cigars a week later that I am also familiar with which goes for $7-9 a stick in other shops.... $17 a stick here. I understand that there needs to be a markup for them to sustain business, but around 3x the markup is insane. Nice place, friendly staff but they are not looking after the "one time customer" or new face that walks in. Will not be returning to this rip off of a place read more

I am not a regular cigar smoker, just when I meet up with one of my best friends we will go out to have a cigar and catch up on what is going on in our hectic schedules. We go to Matador cigars of Massapequa (previously went to Roslyn not impressed but spoke with owner and gave benefit of the doubt on review) and I have to say I have found my new go to place to go have a cigar and relax. Staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful! As soon as we walked into the lounge the gentleman at the counter greeted us and asked if we needed any help in making our selection from a hundred or so different cigars from the walk-in humidor room. They have a very good selection of all types of cigars. Great if you want to try a new cigar before buying a box and finding out you do not like it. Prices are very fair considering you buy it and get to sit and relax smoking in a comfortable chair. After making our selection on our smoke of the night we went out to the counter to pay for the cigars, the gentleman asked us if we needed any other cigar accessories also if needed anything to drink or snack on. He introduced us to the young lady who would be helping the customers with drinks (no alcohol served but you may BYOB) or snack requests. She asked if we would like anything and to just ask at anytime if we needed anything. Both were very friendly and attentive. She was always walking about the store and looking over all the customers but not lurking over us which is nice. We asked for drinks later on and she was prompt and polite when asked. After about 2 hours of relaxed time we started to head out. We spoke with the staff and they asked if we have been to the new location but have not had time and also it is out of the way for both of us but we will give it a try sometime in the future. Parking was great with a good size parking lot and off street parking as well. There is a very good amount of comfortable leather chairs that you just sink into and relax. There is not any seat that did not have a view of at least 3 or more TVs to watch. The store even though it was about 80% full was not very smoky or uncomfortable. The air handlers worked very well not smokeless but if you want smokeless you will have to be outside for that. Smokeless will be a cold or chilly room and not enjoyable which I have been to in other places. There is a good amount of regular customers who are real characters but in a good way. they were friendly with all new and regulars alike. They made for a nice time there. Overall a very enjoyable time and I will be back to the Massapequa location which is near home and will even go back to the Roslyn location to try them out again. I would rate the Massapequa store a solid 5 out of 5 for both the store, environment, parking and helpfulness of the staff. I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a nice place to have a cigar and relax. Also have a good selection of cigars and accessories at a reasonable price. This place is my favorite neighborhood place to go. I go at least two to three times a week to meet up with the guys for an enjoyable cigar. The staff keeps the place extremely clean and they are very attentive to there customers. They have a nice selection of cigars and the lounge has very comfortable seating and a lot of TVs to watch your favorite sporting events or shows. They recently expanded to the next store front which is all additional seating which makes the place very roomy. read more

Coming from a person who used to owned a cigar lounge in Bk this place is crap. Their customer service is horrible, the girl who works was very nice and attentive. The guy who looks like the owner was rude. Me and my buddies walked in to the humidor and asked us if we needed help, I nicely said no. I know my cigars so I was educating my boys on cigars and getting them something good. I turned my head and kept watching us tru the glass window and monitors, like we were gonna still cigars lol. Meanwhile all of us are wearing scrubs, we don't like some guys from the streets. When I came out I saw the was other group of guys waiting to go in and I told the guy sorry we took long. He said "yes you did, that's why I asked you if you needed help" didn't realize he only allows 3 people at the time ! Wth. The humidor it's not even that small. Let me preface this by saying that I have been to this (Massapequa) location a few times although I primarily go to the Hauppauge location. In my many visits to Matador I have never experienced what I did on my last visit. We came to Matador to start off the night, we were celebrating a birthday for one of our group (4ppl). We walk in at 10:38PM, as soon as we walk in a guy approaches us and tells us, gruffly, that they close in 20 minutes and we're arriving late. That was unusual but I shrugged it off, we walk straight into the humidor and proceed to browse, when I asked for help the same guy seemed particularly disinterested in helping. His general demeanor, along with his attitude led to 2 of our group simply deciding not to buy cigars as it was clear they didn't really care to help. I chose mine and the fourth member of our group had already paid for his. At the counter I paid for my cigar and an electronic cigar/vape that was for sale behind the counter, as he hands over the vape he stipulates that even though the store is selling it he won't allow it to be used inside (No policy is posted in the store or on their website re: vapes, to the contrary their website advertises them alongside their other products). To conclude his customer service he proceeded to ask if the other two group members, including the one he told couldn't smoke the vape we just purchased, if they were going to buy cigars. When we responded "no" he told us - "Next time they can't come in, the lounge is only for people who buy cigars". I understand this policy, it makes sense when it is packed for an event or weekend etc., what doesn't make sense is that it was a Tuesday with over half of the seats being empty AND we had already spent close to $40 on two cigars and the vape. His comment was the last straw for me, I genuinely thought he was new but when I asked who he was and his position in the company he responded JOHN- OPERATIONAL MANAGER. I was shocked, I have dealt with no less than 4 different staff members directly at Matadors re: cigar purchases and each has been knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. It is troubling that an apparent supervisor is treating customers as if he didn't want them in the establishment, there is no reason for such prejudice. His behavior was disgusting and unbecoming; completely antithetical to Matador's reputation. I do hope that this issue is corrected, John the "Op Manager" has no business being in a supervisory role if this behavior is typical. read more
