We filled both buckets with mostly ripe delicious strawberries. The kids still need to refine their picking skills. We then got snow cones, brisket and sausage. The kids played and had cotton candy. This was an extremely fun 3 hour activity. I was surprised to find so many delicious ripe strawberries this late in the season. In the end we spent a little over $100. The snow cones were super delicious- actual shaved ice. There are amazing photo ops and I took beautiful pictures of my kiddos. There are several fun pockets and experiences on this farm and it's very kid friendly. As a mom, I'm always having heart attacks because kids love to do crazy stuff, but here I felt very relaxed. Next time I would have them wear mud boots (our tennis are caked with mud). The strawberry fields weren't extremely muddy, but there were pockets of mud out there. We are eating the strawberries and my toddlers are thrilled and proud because they collected them. I just need to get a jam recipe to make this day last a few months. One thing I hated about the festival is the design/location of the entrance. The entrance is along the freeway side of the parking lot and every person entering has to walk all the way to the front, where there is no parking to enter. They should move it to the back (closer to the building) where people are actually parking. Drinks in the wine tent (as they call it) range from bottled water, to craft beers and wine vendors, to off brand cokes to Vita Coco coconut juice. I ended up getting 1 beer and 3 coconut juices. I tried food from the bird food truck, bundt cake a holic and scratch food truck. The southern comfort bundt cake was really delicious and wish I would have purchased a whole cake during my visit. I ordered a $5 combo meal at the Bird with 3 chicken wings and waffle fries. I had the wings tossed in their habanero sauce, but was not impressed because not only was it not spicy, it tasted like a typical buffalo flavor you get anywhere. No hint of habanero anywhere to be found. The waffle fries were very good though. From Scratch food truck, I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich. This came out piping hot with chimichurri sauce and red onions on top. It was very good as well. I wish I had more time to stay longer and try some other food trucks that I haven't ever tried, and also even pay attention to the music.

Charlie ordered the Poutine Style Fries topped with fried chicken, bacon bits, and GRAVY from D'Lish Curbside Bistro while I chose to stand in the longest line at the park: Cousins Maine Lobster. My only regret is not ordering two servings of the lobster tacos! Craft Burger had their truck closed down by 3:30 which was a major bummer. I took a photo of the menu description of their Pecan Porter milkshake (maple bacon bourbon milkshake with candied bacon sprinkles) and was REALLY looking forward to having that for desert :p My only complaint for the day was the drink ticket system.. You are given a total of 5 drink tickets: waters cost 2 tickets, sodas required 3, and beer was 4 or 5 tickets! Just left me feeling a bit cheated to only have one beer with almost $20 a person to get in. Yes yes -- I was a lucky one getting tickets from yelp but a few of our friends declined coming out because of the entry cost. The Kolache Fest is held at the Knight of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville., TX. It consists of games, arts and crafts booths, a classic car show, live polka music, dancing, a BBQ judging, food demos, a Biergarten and of course kolaches. The kolaches are provided by Kountry Bakery. As we drove past the restaurant itself we noticed how packed it was. After trying their kolaches at the festival, we can understand why it was so crowded. The kolaches are great. We wanted to try them all. Kolaches are sold at the festival by the half dozens and available in fruit varieties, cream cheese and as they call them, "pig" (sausage) with and without cheese and jalapeño. The events themselves are held at various times and offer something for everyone. Besides the above listed events there are many more - too many to list! We especially liked the food demos and the crocodile show as well as the classic cars. The live polka music and bands were talented and put on a lively, toe tapping show. Food items for sale are homemade by some very good bakers and benefit some well deserving organizations. Homemade sweets make any event that much better. There is lots of seating in a covered pavilion with huge ceiling fans that give relief from some of the heat. Hallettsville is a small town and this event has a big turnout so arriving early is the best way to ensure good parking although the lot is large. A trivia bit we learned is that it is the only town in the world with the name Hallettsville. It has the friendly, welcoming, small town type warmth that isn't always found within they city. If you like good food and friendly festivities the Kolache Fest is something you'll enjoy.

This is a great opportunity to get to know the character of Rockport. It's an artistic, eclectic community, and the festival shows this off! There's all kinds of great art booths selling cool paintings, clothing, signs and other great works of art. All the greatest local businesses come out and show off their wares! There is also a gumbo competition! Rockport is known for its seafood- the gumbo here is heavenly. You can go to the competition, and get cups for a few bucks each and try them all. The live music is always on key- with different acts each night. It focuses on country music. There's also a midway, where you can ride the rides! Loopty-loops and Gravitrons abound! Yeehaw! This is the second year we've come here in May to pick blueberries and blackberries. One of the…read moreworkers said that blueberry season is really a short 4-6 weeks time frame while blackberries are most of the summer. This year 2025, the blueberries are sweet but on the smaller side. The blackberries were not as good as some of them are tart or even sour as some seem to start fermenting? However in 2023 the blackberries were soooo sweet and juicy that even my husband liked them and he usually doesn't like blackberries. Maybe this year just wasn't good for blackberries. :/ The busket (basket bucket) is $1.50 and berries are usually $8-10 per lb but they ran a Memorial Day weekend promo for $4 a lb. We filled up our busket about 2/3 of the way for 2.7 lbs or $11 in blackberries and blueberries! Cheaper than Costco! Although it is a 45 min drive for us. Giant sunflowers were available too but all the wildflowers were picked already. Things to bring: Busket - if you already have one! Sunscreen - protect your skin! Hat - it's sunny! Water and a refill of water - it's HOT and you easily drink through 2 water bottles, plus if you use any to clean your pickings. neck towel / fan - nice to have I would also consider looking for a parking spot in the shade, usually to the left by the Farm Funland. I also put up our cars sunshade which helps too. This time, my 4 yo said her car seat wasn't that hot (whereas she will usually complain if it is), so i think jt worked! We only spent about 1.5 hours though from 1030-12noon, as it was getting really hot and the kiddo was over it. Overall, fun experience and some good berries but do come prepared for the heat!

They set up a stage at the edge of the fairgrounds and it actually worked really well. I think they learned a lesson last year when the crowds were too large for their usual stage for the Merle Haggard concert. Kudos for recognizing the problem and creating a solution. On Sunday night, Earl Thomas Conley put on a great show. He sang his hits and a few not so well known songs, for a good mix of his music. Friday night was BJ Thomas and the Triumphs. Word is they were really good as well. The fair continues to be a lot of fun. We go every year and always have a lot of fun. A season pass was only $35 and you get 4 nights of entertainment included. If you enjoy county fairs, put this one on your calendar for next Labor Day.

We have been multiple times and have walked away w produce, preservatives, kids toys and even eaten here. It's a warm family friendly environment and sometimes this farmers market is held at the same time as some of the community festivals so it's great to be able to partake in that on top of shopping at the market. It's worth coming to at least once if you have not been. I have yet to find a good farmers market in Houston- this is the best I have come across.
