They are the only ones who ever hurt our dog through his whole ordeal with cancer (when we first saw the lump on a Saturday, his regular vet was closed and we knew it was tender and needed to be looked at). The vet stuck a needle into the lump trying to get liquid to come out. He whined and shied away from them and he never did that (very sweet, happy Jack Russell). He went through surgery and specialists and was never hurt by any of them! 2 weeks ago, one of my stray cats got very sick and I found him around 4:00 PM. I called them (it was a Wednesday and my regular vet was closed in the afternoon), asked them if they would have time to see him or should I take him to the emergency hospital (completely different direction and longer distance). The woman said that if I got there before 5:00, there'd be no problem in seeing him. I got him down there at around 4:40 (he was scared to death and wouldn't come out of the large crate so I had to load it). When he hissed, the woman said that since he hadn't had his shots, if he bit or scratched someone, he'd have to be sent for rabies checking. I told her that he'd been in a mobile home of ours with his brothers, sisters and momma for 4 months so he didn't have rabies. Dr. Bowen asked if he was ever outside - I said yes, for about 2 months but had been inside since then and didn't have rabies! I finally asked them if they were listening to me and to please move on. Dr. Bowen then looked at the clock and said it was too late in the day to do blood work because Fed Ex picked up at around 3:00 - 3:30 and I should just take him to the emergency hospital!!! By the time I got there (6:15) I had an $88 emergency charge where if I'd have just went there first, there'd have not been that charge. My poor kitty wound up dying, not because of the time wasted at Dr. Bowen's but just because he was so sick from a viral infection. What ticks me off is that they told me to bring him down (I fully explained he was a rescue and scared to death) knowing that it was too late to run blood work. I had even asked about the emergency hospital but was told to bring him on in! My kittie's last moments were spent running around with me like a maniac and having to endure the idiots there! That is the last time I'll ever consider them for our pets. If your pet ever needs good vet care, please go to another town and find a good one!

They recommended going somewhere for a higher level of care so I took her from Conyers to Dr. Smith at Athens Regional who came highly recommended. I cannot speak highly enough about the care she received. Dr. Smith thoroughly examined her and gave me all of my options but also advised on what he would do which was actually the most cost-effective treatment as well. He could have easily had me do expensive treatments that ultimately may not have provided any better long-term outcome. Me and my dog are now home and the road to recovery will take some time but I am ever so grateful to Dr. Smith and his staff for his honesty, compassion and expertise.
