After graduating, I secured a new grad position, but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn't continue in that role. As many know, leaving a new grad position can make finding another job very challenging. Celeste was incredibly supportive during that difficult time. She not only helped me navigate the job search process, but also guided me on how to improve my interview skills and build my confidence. With her help, I was able to secure 4 interviews and ultimately land a new position with better pay than my previous role. I'm truly grateful for her dedication and support she made a real difference in my career journey. Thank you, Celeste

Professors who don't even make PowerPoints and just tell us to read the book, tests who aren't even made by them and get mad when the class doesn't do well. A lot of students feel they're just being money hungry encouraging failure so they can get more money. That not the west coast I was told before applying. This school has potential, but the way it is currently, I recommend people interested in nursing to look somewhere else.

I worked while I attended community college and even in the nursing program. Out of all the colleges in Dallas, I found El Centro the most diverse in student body which I think made it fun. I used the free bus pass occasionally, when I didn't there is a $2 parking lot under the bridge close to Hooters. El Centro is my favorite because of their nursing program which is AMAZING and tough, but you are ready to be a nurse afterward. I passed my NCLEX board exam for TX on the 1st try, 75 questions (which means I aced it). Some of my other favorite courses offered at El Centro were French, Painting, and Microbiology. All three were made memorable because of the talented teachers. They were very passionate about the subject they taught and they taught it in a fun interactive way. After I completed the nursing program, El Centro offered a bridge program with UTA for a Bachelor of Nursing degree. A UTA representative came and spoke with my nursing class at El Centro. The presentation and my dedication inspired me to further my education and earn my BSN from UTA 1 year after earning my ADN from El Centro. When people ask me where did you graduate nursing school from? I proudly think of and say EL CENTRO first before UTA. They gave me a chance to fufill my dream of being an awesome nurse. I hope to inspire young and old people to not give up on their dream just because a University declines them.

Horrible experience for any freshman.

What used to be known as Cooke County College…read moreis one of the biggest assets in the Gainesville community and, truth be told, the North Central Texas region in general. This is a college where you get what you put into it. Sure, if you're just looking to "get your basics out of the way" this is a junior college where you can do that inexpensively and with minimal interference. True, if you just want a two-year degree and don't want to do the whole "college kid" thing, you can come here at any age and from any walk of life and still learn a lot. But if you want the full college experience -- and you want to leave NCTC as a better critical thinker, artist, art appreciator, musician, actor, caretaker, philosopher, scientist, literary expert, mathmetician, academician and/or public citizen, you can. But you have to stick around after class and take advantage of what NCTC has to offer. The feel of the Cooke County Campus was like 13th and 14th grade when I went there a decade ago -- "high school with ash trays" one student called it my first day there. But I learned quickly that there was a greater depth to the faculty that few students took the time to explore, and that this wasn't just an extension of my high school years (aside from the dual-credit classes they offer!). The long-time instructors and professors of NCTC have ample time to focus on students on a one-on-one basis outside of class, and aren't psuedo-intellectual snobs (meaning you might actually learn something if you admit ignorance, rather than get sneered at. I was told by most of my instructors "there's no such thing as a dumb question," and I'm glad because I had my share of them!). Also, being a part of and starting several campus organizations were some of the best experiences of my life, and I made many lasting friendships by exploring my career, political, and spiritual interests outside of class. The culture of the campus has changed a lot -- the college is attempting to become more liberal-arts-focussed and there are many pre-planned school spirit campus events that make it seem more collegiate but not quite like the adult-oriented institution I attended in the mid-90s. Many of my beloved instructors have left or have passed on, and all the buildings were painted maroon. But it's still like home to me in many ways. One of the perks of getting to know the faculty is that you can always look up your old profs years later and find in them a mentor to help you throughout your career and life's challenges -- remember that when you get your modest tuition bill in the mail that you're investing in an educational community and not just a two-year certificate or Associate's degree. It's one of the best educational deals on the planet, and I can't recommend NCTC enough. Go there.
