Perhaps this is common knowledge in the neighboring senior communities among the early bird special crowd, but it's a new discovery for me after having lived in Brick over twelve years. There's a culinary school at OCVTS in their Brick location. During the school year, they offer lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 I believe from Wednesday to Friday. So I stopped by yesterday to check it out. Apparently each day they have a theme. Yesterday it was Southern /Cajon. For my appetizer, I ordered the a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, which was redolent with the flavor of the dark tan roux and was well seasoned, and to my surprise, mildly (for me) spiced even before I added the Tabasco sauce. It was a well made gumbo. I initially ordered the fried chicken entre, which came with collard greens and mac and cheese. I love collard greens and these were well prepared, as was the mac and cheese (To be honest, mac and cheese is a dish that you have to go out of your way to screw up.). However, the fried chicken was not as deftly prepared. Granted, it was three huge pieces of chicken, the size of my head (I can see why this place is popular with the senior crowd). First, it was was smothered in gravy. Now, that's not really a critism in itself, but I don't like anything on the chicken after it's fried so it stays crispy. But as soon as I put the fork into the thigh piece the entire breading seemed to slide off. Apparently they have to revisit frying 101, as do ssooo many commercial cooks. Realizing that this is a school, I felt bad sending it back, but I really wanted to enjoy the meal. So ignoring the Italian tradition of not eating fish with cheese, I ordered the blackened catfish with a Parmesan breading crust. The fish was well cooked, but the crust was overly salty. The meal was rounded out with chocolate rice pudding (now that's thinking out of the box!) that was very good. All through the meal I had unlimited refills of their excellent home brewed ice tea and some good coffee at the end Total tab $ 7.00, not including tip. How can you beat that? There were a few hiccups as I've pointed out. I wasn't pulling my punches because it's a school. But, for around the price of a happy meal you get great quality freshly prepared food served with cloth napkins. I was locked out of my OCC account and couldn't disenroll myself, but the woman I spoke with assured me she would process it on her end. I confirmed this with her and trusted the matter was handled. Months later, I was shocked to see a charge for that same course. I called the admissions office on January 11th and explained the situation, including that I was unable to access my account or view any billing info. I also mentioned that I was misinformed about the course transferring to my current school -- it turned out to be pass/fail and therefore not valid for graduate programs. I emailed OCC with a detailed explanation and request for help -- and got no response. I called multiple times trying to get assistance logging into my account or disputing the charge and got nowhere. I was completely ignored when I needed support the most. I would not recommend this institution based on how poorly they treat students who run into problems. No one should have to deal with this kind of negligence or lack of accountability

I rushed to pick up my son, panicked and horrified, only to be met with a director who seemed more concerned about **staff conflicts** than the safety of my child. I was told that teachers may have reported each other due to personal grievances, as if that somehow made this situation any less alarming. When we rightfully asked for our money back--since there was no chance we'd be sending our child back to an environment where this was even a possibility--we were told we had to **wait for the investigation's outcome.** No compassion, no urgency, no reassurance--just indifference. And to make matters worse, we haven't heard a single word from them since. The investigation concluded with some teachers saying they witnessed the incident and others claiming they did not. Because of this, the state ruled they **could not confirm the allegations.** But what does that mean for my child, who was the victim in all of this? The teacher in question is now likely reinstated and undergoing "training." That is absolutely **sickening.** When I asked if they had cameras in the classroom during my first meeting with them, I was told, **"Yes, we do" Never did I think to ask, **"Do your cameras also record?"** because, like most parents, I assumed they did. Had I known otherwise, I **never** would have entrusted my child to this place. At the very least, I expected The Learning Experience to handle this situation with care and transparency. Instead, they offered **no support, no communication, and no accountability.** I feel completely misled, disappointed, and betrayed. The owner's foster son hit my daughter and encouraged a younger foster child to hit my younger daughter as well. As a parent, seeing one child encourage another to join in against my child was extremely upsetting and made me feel like my daughters were being ganged up on. What concerned me just as much was the response when I brought it to the owner's attention. I felt the behavior was brushed off and treated as normal childhood behavior rather than being taken seriously. I understand that conflicts can happen between children, but I expect a daycare to provide a safe environment and to respond appropriately when physical aggression occurs. Because of both the incident itself and the way it was handled, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my children in their care and decided to withdraw them.
