We deeply resonate with this philosophy, and it was one of the main reasons we decided to join Stellar right away. I've already recommended Stellar to many of my friends and family, here's why: 1. The teachers are incredibly dedicated and responsible. Since my son joined Stellar, we've been pleasantly surprised by his daily growth and progress, not only in knowledge, but also in emotional development, self-regulation, and discipline. He has learned to be patient and take turns, to share with others, and to use gentle hands. He throws fewer tantrums, has become kinder, and even helps clean up his own toys. 2. My kid is also noticeably more cheerful and expressive. His vocabulary has grown rapidly, and he can now engage in full conversations and communicate clearly. He can count, and every day at school he participates in crafts and art activities. At home, he continues to want to read, sing, and draw, these are all things that Stellar has helped nurture in him. 3. When I mentioned to the teachers that my child was a picky eater, they patiently encouraged and supported him during lunchtime to ensure he got the nutrition he needed. Over time, he began finishing most of his lunch and reached a healthy weight. We have been part of the school for three years. Our daughter has grown so much from her time here. Academically, she is challenged by her teachers to think critically (even in kindergarten). The other day she asked if we wanted to make up math story problems at the dinner table, because Giddens encourages students to bring fun, creativity, and exploration into how they learn hard skills. Social and emotional learning is also a major focus for the school. Last week there was a talent show for the k-4th graders, and the amount of love, respect, and excitement the entire school showed to these brave and talented performers was incredibly moving. The reason why I quit was because of the head of the teaching, Ms. Janet. She always were to try to make things better and make it worse, treats everyone like a little child, as in you get 9 mistakes and she'll say, "Good job honey! I'm so proud of you." Do things like when you come in and tell you "Sweetie you have to say hi to me everytime you come in, come on, say it." Even if you haven't said hi and just did a wave for a while and that had became the norm. Ms. J will also give you a smile (a kind of uncanny one) and tell you "Box your answers sweetheart." When you've told her weeks on end that you will, when you finish your packet. Texts randomly sometimes, either about something unrelated or about how the parent is helping their child with their math (when they told Ms. Janet they showed their child how to do what they're learning. Mainly, Ms. J just really pisses me (and my mother + brother) off. For now I'm just going to use other resources or continue Kumon at another place in Seattle.

No kids like more homework (maybe some do, but not mine). My method is to have them do their Eye Level homework daily (takes 15~30 min) and I reward them with their choice of free time. She is constantly updating parents with their kids progress and encourages the kids a lot. She is also very accommodating if there is some rescheduling required. The program is great and helps kids build good study habits. The critical thinking makes kids use data analysis which is so important and a great exercise for the brain. My son is so confident in Math and is doing very well in class. When we had joined eye level his Writing English was okay, but he has come a long long way... he has shown great improvement and doing great in school. The school's system is run poorly, but I will say a lot of the teachers were amazing to me during my journey. I came to that school in a very rough period of my life and met some of the best and worst people I think I'll ever know. Tuition is extremely expensive, but from what I heard there is financial aid. As for academics, I learned quite a bit from my 1:1 classes and I learned some basic social skills from my group classes. In the end, I left because I tend to be very social and this just isn't a social school at all. The small student population and limited groups did not work for me. There was some bullying and less than nice groups I got involved with, but a lot of that was my fault. The only real way I can describe my time at Yellowwood was being a child with many siblings in a divorced family. There was a lot of tension at some points but you did learn who to trust and who to avoid. It was an odd place for sure but I am grateful to Yellowwood for the initial support and the academics.

As a second grader he was doing research projects with rough drafts, bibliographies, and illustrations in both English and Spanish! He also benefitted from forrest days where he learned about nature and what it means to be a member of a community. MVS encourages the kids to show up as their authentic selves and embrace each member of the school. Our son thrived socially and emotionally.
