I signed up my son a few months ago but wanted to hold off on reviewing until he had a chance to experience it for a bit. This branch of Mathnasium is in a plaza across Mt. SAC so parking is fairly easy. First off, the staff here is AMAZING. Everyone is so approachable, and accommodating to my son. He likes that they have a point system to earn punches to redeem for fun prizes. My son already has his eye on getting a gift card. They also have themed spirit days during the summer like cookie day, pajama day, crazy hair day, etc. My oldest son did Kumon for a while a number of years ago. The Mathnasium system is different than Kumon as there are no worksheets that you have to bring home as additional homework. With Mathnasium there is an instructor assigned to work with a small group of students to help them understand concepts, so it feels like a semi-private tutoring session. I signed up my son, not with the goal to make him advance to high school math in 5th grade, but to help him with the basic grade level concepts that he was having trouble with. My son enjoys his sessions (which to me is already a win when a kid likes going to a math and I can see his confidence growing as he completes his mastery checks. I like that he's not stressing out about doing worksheets at home like my oldest son did with the other program. FYI, session fees for elementary school kids are less expensive than middle schoolers, so if you sign them up while they're in elementary, you can lock in the same costs even when they continue in middle school. read more

I noticed my son having trouble with math. I felt he would probably benefit from some extra help because it was hard to be mom & math teacher, so I turned to trusty Yelp and found Mathnasium. After leaving a message, I quickly received a call back. The worker was very helpful with setting up an assessment and explaining things. Once my son completed the assessment, the worker was even more helpful with explaining everything from fees, to goals, and policies. Anytime my son has gone to a session, staff has been positive and helpful. My single parent income only affords my son one session a week, but I've noticed he's gone from dragging his feet for his session to jumping out of my car when I say it's time. I appreciate that they provide updates and check-in to see how I feel about progress being made. Another big thing is their scheduling system..I love that it's online and easily accessible. Life happens sometimes and it's nice to be able to easily get on my phone and reschedule a session online, rather than having to call and see when my calendar aligns with their available sessions. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for some math support for their child. read more

My daughter has been coming to Mathnasium for over a year now and I've seen incredible growth in her understanding and love for math. She's ahead of her class and truly enjoys coming here each week to learn. I appreciate how they keep track of her skills and update each month with what skills she is working on and those that she has mastered. I need to shout from the rooftops about how happy I am with our experience at Mathnasium in Walnut. We were looking for a last-minute activity to keep our kids busy for a few hours each day for a short 2-week period this summer and the owner was incredibly accommodating. She and her center directors, Kayla and Jonathan, welcomed my kids with open arms and helped them polish up on a few topics and I could not be more grateful. We love this Math Center! This place is a great place for our son to learn and greatly improve in his math skills! Our son has been coming here for three straight years starting Kindergarten and every year he personally asked to come back. He always has a great time here and is constantly engaged, because the instructors here makes math so fun! In our honest opinion, every year, our son excels in math at his grade level and we truly believe that it is all because of Mathnasium of Walnut. This Mathnasium is AMAZING! I'm very picky when it comes to my son's education and boy am I glad I had found this center! My kindergarten son who can barely sit still for 2 seconds loves going here and can actually focus on math for a whole hour twice a week! He actually enjoys the 1st grade math that he does here and asks to come everyday! To do work! I mean which kid or even adult in the right mind would do that unless they really enjoy the people, the environment and most importantly, the fun ways of doing math! My brother and I have been coming here since January 2018 and personally, my math skills(?) have improved. The staff here are very social and try their best to teach students how to solve certain problems on their homework. If there is no homework to be done, they have worksheets to help students on the skills they need improvement on. Once students are done with the worksheets, they have assessments to see where else they can improve on and where they still need help on. My daughter entered this program about a year and a half ago. She was producing close to 2 grades behind her actual grade level in math in school and really needed intervention. Where can I begin? Math has always been a struggle for us, my daughter never enjoyed math. I knew we needed to find help for her. Since joining with Mathnasium we've noticed that she has gain a whole lot of confidence when it comes to math. Mathnasium has been one of the best decisions for our family! My only regret is not having started sooner. I have a 6th grader and a 3rd grader attending 3 sessions a week and have been doing so for the last 5 weeks. The biggest change so far has been their overall attitude/confidence toward math. They dreaded math homework, now they are disappointed when it's not their day to attend. All of their instructors have been great! Friendly and extremely competent in what they do. Mathnasium of Walnut is the best place to learn about math! They have great staff members who are willing to teach and explain problems with ease! Mathnasium has helped me with upcoming quizzes and tests that I was not ready for. They gave me many worksheets that were based on what I was learning at school. Sometimes they give me worksheets of topics that I have not learned at school yet as far as their curriculum. If they gave me a worksheet that I did not understand very well, they would help me as soon as possible! They make me realize how easy and fun math is! I use Yelp quite frequently, but have never posted a review. This time I'd like to share my experience. My 8th grade daughter joined Mathnasium a few weeks after the start of her 1st semester in Algebra 1. She always did so well in Math, but this year we've encountered a "bump" on the road. She expressed having a difficult time grasping some of the formulas and her frustrations were affecting her confidence. My husband and I both patiently tried to help her, but we don't have the "common core" background. Our way of getting the right answer was apparently incorrect when "showing the work". Her frustration was getting worse because she could no longer turn to us for help. It was hard to see her feeling "lost". Since she's joined Mathnasium, her report card went up an entire letter grade! (Just after 1 quarter) Those instructors know what they are doing--VERY sharp and common core knowledgeable! She's so excited to go there, even right after school! The last thing on our mind was to spend extra money, but it is definitely worth it! The director Judy, genuinely cares for her students. My 11 year-old son loves to go to mathnasium to learn math. I have never seen him so motivated and inspired to try to earn an "A" in each of his Math test. The instructors there are all very knowledgeable and skilled in Math, and they are also very friendly and my son is able to bond with each of the instructors there. I also love how Mrs. Judy, the director there, takes the time to get to know each student at the center and gives you feedback on your child's progress. I also love how they can customize a learning plan and strategy that will target on my son's weaknesses in math based on his earlier math assessment at the center and they are committed to help him gain mastery in Math overall. And even when he struggles with certain math homework, they'll take the time to work with him to understand the Math concepts and help him learn how to decode a complicated math word problem. Learning math becomes fun and no longer intimidating for my son and I can see his confidence developed here in the area of Math. I definitely will give this center here 5 stars. read more
