Up until now, I have not had good luck with urologists. The previous one I went to had a young woman standing just inside the treatment room taking notes on a tablet which made me very uncomfortable. I was hoping to find a doctor that I could confide in and trust and the presence of another person in the room made that impossible. Unfortunately I didn't speak up and ask if we could talk in private. I was just angry that he didn't have the sensitivity to know in advance that his patient most likely is uncomfortable and needs to be in a trusting, safe atmosphere. A year later I did some research and took a gamble on Dr. Matthew Lemer and he was (and is) the perfect fit - a total professional who is also warm and caring (with a wonderful sense of humor) and who is fully present and concerned about me. In my first appointment, before going into the treatment room, I was taken to his private office where I sat across from him as he made me feel that I could tell him anything (which I did). He made sense out of several concerns I was dealing with and immediately put me on a treatment plan. I've been to him several times and I wouldn't dream of going to anyone else. read more

Be prepared to wait. Very insulting as he continues to sch edule his appointments 10 minutes apart and you sit waiting room forever. I like him but decided to go elsewhere. My advice is to go elsewhere. read more

Dr. Lemer and his staff are caring and thorough and he is extremely easy to talk with about delicate matters. I felt he viewed me as a complete person with my health as a vital part of that. Waiting time was extremely reasonable. Privacy and dignity are respected. read more

Amazing Doctor I have read the reviews and I find it unfortunate. Dr. Lemer has always diagnosed and treated problems efficiently, professionally and swiftly. I have NEVER had a negative issue with his office staff, in fact I find them efficient and pleasant and professional. I totally recommend Dr. Lemer for his bed side manners and his straight forward dialogue and discourse. I'm too young to know much about urologists but in all honesty dr Lemer has been the best doctor I've even been examined by... And I mean _really_ examined by. I know women are more accustomed to these kinds of exams but for men it can be a rude shock when you see the instruments and find out where they're going. Over the past 2 years, he's been non-judgmental and very thorough. Most importantly, Dr Lemer listens to me even when we disagree! If you need a urologist I'd highly suggest giving his office a call. read more

Read the reviews and decide for yourself... Had the same issues as other Yelpers here. After being sent to the lab for some additional testing due to a potentially serious condition, I called the practise 8 times within 2 weeks to finally get my results, which will determine next steps. No response so far. Every time I call, the receptionist promised a call back, but this promise has been broken every time. Everyone makes mistakes or forgets something from time to time, but this is a serious pattern here and extremely unprofessional! It's a real pity, because the Doctor was great during the 1st appointment, but without the lab results we can't get to the next stage so I'm still not sure whether I'm healthy or not. Now what? P.S. After 2.5 weeks we got the doctor to finally call back, so I'm raising my review to 2 stars. read more

Holy moly after a bad experience with my last urologist about an issue I've had for years, Dr Lemer was incredibly refreshing. Well spoken, caring, listened, was enlightening, and his staff was wonderful and kind as well. While women go through procedures like this regularly, men do not and I couldn't give enough praise about how this doctor just guided me. Would recommend based on this appointment - new patient was in and out in less than 90 minutes, with two ultrasounds, an exam and a consult. Incredible. read more

wow.. some bad reviews for Dr. Lemer.. I had a simple problem with cysts on my balls.. yick ! and the Dr cut off a sack of cysts and I healed fine without any issues. I was so happy I never went back for follow up since Jan 2013. The Dr did fine by me. So I am going back for a checkup now and will let you know what happens. read more

I've just gotten to the end of my dealings with Dr. Lemer. After seeing him on Dec. 2nd, a series of events took place meant to get prior authorization for a drug needed for a treatment. After waiting for over a month without any word on the status of my application, I finally took the matter in my own hands. I managed to get the paperwork processed and the drug shipped in a few weeks; all with the help of numerous Vice Presidents of the associated companies needed. This was a task that his office should have expedited, but that was not the case!! I don't know where the problem originated (his office or the insurance company), but his office did not find it unacceptable for the process to take over 3 months. I didn't get follow-up calls or emails to my enquiries, and was frustrated by the whole process. His attempt to lighten the mood at today's appointment (30 minutes late) was nothing short of sarcastic. Needless to say, I have found another doctor. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I hate giving a negative review but here it is deserving. After performing 2 scheduled tests for kidney stones, and calling the doctor's office several times for my results they never got back to me. I had a simple 24 hr urine test and was informed by mail that they had my results. I also had another test done and was told by the hospital the doctor would have my results in 3 days. When I called the receptionist was incompetent. She told me they didn't have the results and had to call the hospital for the first test and would call me back once they got the results. For the 24 hr one, she gave me some other bs excuses. Weeks went by and I tried to call again and got nowhere. Same crap. 2 months later and still no call for EITHER test. I gave up and just hope that the kidney stone issues are not serious. I cannot have any respect for a doctor who will not follow up with his patients and at least give them the common courtesy of a phone call to give them the results to tests that were PAID for. read more

I don't think it gets more embarassing than a trip to the Urologist, but Dr. Lemer is professional and competent, so that helps. His office is clean and pleasant. It's no problem making appointments and getting in to the dr. on time. Super gay friendly and not judgmental (so he doesn't assume every problem is an STD like straight doctors do). Dr.Lemer has been the go to urologist for our family , he has treated two of my twenty something kids for kidney stones over the last year and a half . He has been caring and attentive. His office staff , particularly Kim was very helpful. read more

I was called by this guy's office to advise me that he was running half an hour late. It happens and I appreciated the call. When I got there, I waited for another hour (total 1.5 hours). He came in, no apologies; no explanation. As if my time is less valuable than his. I had my scheduled procedure done WHILE HE WAS TEXTING THE WHOLE TIME (no exaggeration -- texting. the. whole. time. while the nurse/assistant/whatever was administering the test) and he told me the pain I felt was "profoundly abnormal." Since he was late, so was I and I had to leave to make it to an important meeting. He told me that he would call me later that day to discuss the procedure. He didn't. Of course I was (and am) concerned about what was so "abnormal." I called the next morning and asked the receptionist to have him call me. He didn't. I called around 4 and asked again that he call me that afternoon or evening. He didn't. Not happy, I called this morning and asked again that he call me. Nope. I called again around 5 and asked that he call me this evening. (Each time I explained to the receptionist what he had said and why I was concerned.) He still hasn't called. It's going on three days since seeing him and I still have no idea what is "profoundly" wrong with me. Who DOES that?? I've had better service from auto mechanics, yet it's my internal organs at issue here, not a carbuerator. Who the hell IS this clown? No response? TEXTING??Tomorrow, I call one of his partners. If he hasn't called by tomorrow afternoon, I call the State. Beware folks. There are a lot of urologists out there; stay away trom this one. read more

A completely dysfunctional NYC office staff is my only way of describing the insanity of trying to have my medical records sent to my new urologist. Tomorrow is my appointment and the records have not yet been received. I personally went to the office two weeks ago to sign for their release. I gave them my new doctor's information and telephone number. I was reassured that the records would be sent asap. I've contacted them at least 4 times since then. The office staff are all really sweet and nice to speak with, however they are not qualified to do this work and should perhaps take up weaving or pottery. Dr. Lemer prescribed Cipro for a urinary infection. He knew that I had a serious problem when I returned for my check up and told him that the heal of my right foot hurt, which normally one does not tell to a urologist; but he immediately said the "Cipro". I was never warned that exercise should not be performed when taking Cipro. But then again, some doctors know about the serious side effect and the class action law suits against Cipro and some do not. Perhaps he just did not know the correlation with exercise and Cipro? I will give Dr. Lemer the benefit of the doubt. He is a terribly nice guy. I hope that now all doctors do know? So I should warn you, that Cipro can cause Achilles tendinitis which I endured for nearly 9 months of pain with tears in my tendon and was hardly able to walk. It has taken me 2 years now at 71 years old to finally get back to the gym and back in shape after much physiotherapy. Thus I am changing my urologist! read more

My husband and I wasted a year of our lives because of Dr. Lemer. My husband had low sperm count and poor motility. Dr. Lemer did an examination in Jan 2016 and sent my husband for semen analysis and bloodwork. He never performed an ultrasound. Dr. Lemer said my husband had low testosterone, put my husband on Clomid, and said it would fix everything. One year (of hell) later. Five failed inseminations. Decreased sperm count and motility. His numbers kept PLUMMETING. My fertility doctor urged us to see another urologist. We saw another one who quickly diagnosed my husband with a varicocele which was affecting his fertility. My husband had his varicocele fixed today which ANOTHER doctor diagnosed and Dr. Lemer missed. Had this been diagnosed a year ago, we would have saved a lot of money, time, and heartache. read more

Dr. Lemer solved a problem that I had for many years that other urologists were unable to solve. The wait time in his office is very reasonable, he's very thorough and well informed, he does not do unnecessary tests and he answers my questions. read more

I saw Dr Lemer for about 1 year for overactive bladder (OAB). At first he tried various meds which were unsuccessful. Then he decided to try the Interstim neuromodulation in which he performed surgery to install wires in my butt. When that didn't work he decided to try a few more medications. Now, I'm not a Dr but I would assume it's common sense to completely exhaust oral medication options BEFORE cutting me to perform surgery. When those didn't work, months later he performed Botox injections which is proven to be extremely successful for OAB. I guess only if the Dr knows what he's doing. Because of the injections he administered, my bladder was traumatized for over a month making my condition not only worse but unbearable. After this procedure Dr Lemer did not return my many phone calls to his office. I asked for my complete medical records to be sent to the my new urologist. I filled a medical release form with the first date I saw Dr Lemer and the last date (the date of botox treatment). It is absolutely appalling and disturbing to me that after several weeks and numerous calls he sent all my records EXCEPT the botox treatment records. So, my new urologist really had no idea exactly what Dr Lemer did. Dr Lemer is a very inexperienced, unprofessional and I'm afraid, very shady Dr. read more
