Dr. Curreri is an incredible doctor. He is personable and knowledgeable. The one negative is his front desk administrator Jeanette, was unkind, aggressive, and her threatening behavior is unacceptable. Janette cornered me in a patient room and yelled at me about a missed invoice. When I tried to explain that I did not receive the invoice and was unaware of the charge, she spoke over me and continued to harass me. Dr Curreri has moved to new offices at 161 E32nd St. The waiting room is four times the size of his old office as well as fresh & clean with safe distance spacing. I waited about 15 minutes before his technician called me for the diagnostic tests...new equipment, also. Dr Curreri did my cataract surgery in 2016 & 2017. This time, I had a recurring eye infection from a Chalazion- -clogged oil ducts on the lower lid. Dr Curreri is my Go-To guy, he will always give me the best care possible. read more

My mother, who is 86 years old, had an appointment with Dr Curreri. When I asked her about her visit, she told me she was not happy and really didn't understand why he changed her medication. So I called to ask and get some clarification. Waited for 10 mins and no answer, so I called back again, and I spoke to Dr Curreri, who was annoyed rude and condescending . He was clearly annoyed that I was questioning him!! Elderly BEWARE! Don't let ANYONE treat you as if you don't matter. Dr. Curreri himself is fine. It's his intake operation that is crap. I waited nearly an hour to be seen (with an appointment), then after an exam by an assistant, waited another 20 minutes to see the doctor. This might be acceptable in free clinics or third world countries, but not in a private doctor's office in Manhattan. I see several specialists for different issues and have NEVER had to wait as long as this to be seen by the doctor. And this is not a one-off incident. I had to wait nearly as long to be seen during a visit in the spring. Get your act together - either get a more competent support staff and system, stop overbooking, or figure out how the actual pros do it. Because it is not only doable, it is standard practice these days - unless, like I said, it's a free clinic or a walk-in situation. read more

I went here for a consultation to have my eyes lasered. I've been to, no exaggeration, four other places and he was the only one that charged me for a consultation. Of course I didn't find out about it until I received the bill. I've had contacts and glasses since high school. Curreri did the normal checkup with a consultation for laser eye correction. Somehow he came up with a new prescription that was different and I've never had before. Over the past few years all the doctors I've been to and all the times I've had my eyes checked, my prescription hasn't changed. I went back to my normal eye doctor for a second opinion. My normal doctor checked my eyes again and found no change to my original prescription. They gave me eye drops that seriously dilated my eyes. Light was extremely bright that it hurt. No one warned me when I left. The other places I went do the same thing but offer you sun glasses. I was told someone would contact me in a few days. More than a few days later a lady calls me asking if I'm still interested in the procedure. When she quotes me well over twice the price of anywhere else I've been, I kindly say no thank you. read more

I had a debacle with the billing office of the doctor. I don't have any insurance but I'd gone to another doctor in Seattle a year earlier to get contact prescription. It cost me over $200 so I figured it would be the similar here. Four months after my appointment, the billing office sent me a bill of almost $1000 for a 15-min appointment!! I freaked out but then I inspected the bill carefully. In addition to a "Comprehensive New Patient Visit," they charged me SIX line items for every single test they did. Shouldn't they all be included in the comprehensive visit charge?? I wrote an angry email saying this charge is ridiculous. Guess what? They said because I don't have insurance, I needed to pay $250. That's a 75% discount of the original bill, without so much of a negotiation. Everyone with or without insurance should be aware of the practice of charging inflated sticker prices, known as chargemaster. Waited 2 hours for a 15 minute procedure and consultation. Appointments clearly overbooked. Also, in addition to my co-pay I was charged a $15 first-time visitors fee for diagnostic testing that I clearly didn't need - in fact, I'd already had the same testing done at my optometrist one week prior. read more

After my 2nd visit to Dr. Curreri this year, I have to say that the wait time has definitely increased tremendously! I've been going on a weekly basis for the past 3 weeks now, and every time I have to wait over an hour to see him. The last time I was there I was waiting for 2 hours. I went to Dr. Curreri and I couldn't be happier. He was attentive and gave me the best eye perscription I've had. My glasses are really complicated and difficult to get just right. I told Dr. Currreri about this and he took extra time with me to review all my readings and make sure the lenses were perfect. I've never seen better and that's what it's all about isn't it? ***NOTE: Somehow I duplicated my account and wrote this review already, dated 2/15/2013.*** So I don't have insurance and I was going to go to the Eye and Ear Infirmary on 14th Street and 2nd Ave, but when I called they said I'd have to come in before 11AM and wait for three hours to 'maybe' get seen by an ophthalmologist. People without insurance (poor artists such as myself) understand what this is like. Wait, wait, wait, get a really rude doctor to see you, tell you there's nothing wrong or they don't know what's wrong and then get a HUGE bill. Not so with Dr. Curreri! Oh my gosh! It was $150, they took me as a walk-in - I had to wait an hour, but I was prepared for that and read the magazines in the waiting area and sipped my coffee. The staff was really friendly. Dr. Curreri was really nice and took a look at my eye, gave me my diagnosis and then hooked me up with some medication samples since he knew I didn't have insurance and wouldn't be able to afford the meds I needed for my eye problem. Amazing. I will be going back to him till I die or leave New York. Whichever comes first. He is incredible. The whole visit was well worth the $150 I paid. Definitely five stars. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Curreri for the past five years. When I discovered, I have Glaucoma on both eyes at the age of thirty eight Dr. Curreri was my doctor and to this day he is still my doctor. I never needed a second opinion. I can talk to him about any other medical issues that I might be going through in the last five years. He is always there to listen and direct you to the right professional. One can find a doctor in every corner in New York City but it is very rare to find a Guardian Angel. read more

Dr. Curreri is very smart and has an excellent bedside manner, this is a hard combo to find nowadays. I have multiple health issues that can effect my sight, and he was able to put my mind at ease. I arrived at my appointment 20 minutes early and was surprised there were no available seats( unless you count the unused broken seat on the floor). So, I stood next to a wall with other waiting patients. After 10 minutes I asked the receptionist how long a wait there would be, and she said 30-40 minutes. I asked if she could call me when my appointment was coming up soon so I could leave and do something else. She didn't seem to want to do that and suggested I come on a Monday as it usually wasn't that crowded. No, I don't want to come back....I reserved this time and rearranged my schedule so I would be seen today. If someone's office is always crowded on Fridays, please warn the patients so they are informed. And, there should always be seats for patients and their companions. I am very disappointed and will be looking elsewhere for an office that shows appreciation and concern for future patients. read more

I have been going to Dr. Curreri for 10 years. All the reviews seen to reflect the wait time in his office. There does tend to be a wait however, he will NEVER rush you when your time time come. He will make sure you are well informed and he certainly gives a through exam. His equipment is state of the art and Dr. Curreri knows his patients well. My first cataract surgery was fine, the second a disaster. The n.a. did not give me enough anesthesia and it wore off part way through. Imagine feeling being stabbed in your eye. Dr. Curreri ordered him to give me the correct amount and completed the surgery. I ended up with 3 infections in that eye. My vision was severely distorted--like looking at a fun house mirror-- so it didn't merge when I looked with both eyes open. I have to read or write with that eye closed. Dr. Curreri insisted it was healing, but I still had pain and the vision did not improve. Finally, he insisted it was healed and I should come back in 6 months. I kept telling him I couldn't see properly and it hurt a lot, but he kept saying it was healed and come back in 6 months. I went to another doctor who said that I needed treatment. She tried laser treatment which improved my vision a lot, but still not enough. She sent me to a specialist who gave me an injection which improved my vision some more. I'm still not at 100% and continue treatment with both the second doctor and the specialist. I have the beginning of glaucoma in that eye, which may be a result of the surgery, and I will probably need to use drops daily for the rest of my life. I may also need repeated injections, since the improvement may not hold permanently. So much for "but it's healed, come back in 6 months." Cataract surgery is supposed to be better for one's eyesight. Under Dr. Curreri it is worse, no matter how much he insisted it was healed. Prior to the surgery, I didn't need glasses for reading. Since the surgery I do. I understand there are risks to all surgery, but when it doesn't go well, dismissing my complaints and me is not acceptable. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I have been Dr. Currieri's patient for more than a decade. Anyway I made an appointment last week for my daughter and I. We were supposed to be seen today at 12:45. We get there and there's no record of any appointment for us and the waiting room was absolutely packed. We had to take multiple trains from Brooklyn and haul ass from 14st just to make it on time. To top it off the receptionist has a smirk on her face the whole time as if the situation were funny. At no time did she apologize for their error or inconvenience to us. So a BIG FU to the receptionists for being inept and rude. Dr. Currieri himself is alright not the warmest but he knows his trade unlike his staff. So this rating is for his staff for their lack of social skills and poor hometraining. It's important to both look and act professional in the workplace. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Curreri for 6 years. I am very happy with him, his practice and his staff. Dr. Curreri performed cataract surgery on my left eye, and he was successful. About 4 years later I developed a secondary cataract in the same eye (this is common). Dr. Curreri corrected the secondary cataract using a YAG laser. Again, he was successful. I still do not need glasses. I have read other reviews that cite the long office wait times, etc., and all I can say is that if I have to wait to see a doctor that I trust, I will do it. read more
