We waited for this pizza place to open as we had just come from the Princess Theatre afternoon session and it had us out at 5pm. SPQR opens at 5:30pm but as we must have looked a little hungry we were let in early with a request that if we would like the window seat could we be out in 90 mins as the table had been booked. No Problem! Obviously, the waiter won our hearts for taking pity on us but he was also very attentive whilst setting up the place with the other staff. The seated area was in two levels. The upper level was near the bar and the lower level (lower than street level) was at the window. There was also another area as you walked in where you could have pizza by the slice and a drink and stand right next to the DJ. The pizzas were excellent. The dough was interesting as it was thin in the middle with a chewy crust. We did make pigs of ourselves and had three pizzas between two of us. They were just so nice. read more

Staying at Rydges and in search of gluten free pizza I found this pizzeria just around the corner. The first night I came in and ordered a gluten free pizza with pork (porchetta and italian sausage) and potato, it was really good. So good, that I came in the next night for a pepperoni and sausage. One of the best gluten free pizzas I have ever had. The staff love to chat it up with the customers. It has a super casual vibe. The pizzas are cooked pretty quickly, so if you on a time crunch it will be no problem! read more

Pretty good pizza for delivery. Ordered a a pepperoni pizza with jalapeno peppers and oregano for delivery with UberEats. Pizza arrived in a jiffy. Cheese actually stayed in the top! They forgot the peppers...oh well it was still good. The pepperonis were a little smoky for us. The crust was outstanding. Toppings were generous. Highly recommend. Restaurant Manager was rude and frowned at our group upon arrival. We arrived 25 minutes early for our 6:30pm booking to be polite but they gave available tables to a group of 3 and then another table a group of 2 who had no booking that arrived after us. We asked a younger waitress if we could wait inside at the entrance which she said yes. After having us wait for 40 minutes, while they gave available tables to other groups without booking, ended up seating us at the table outside the toilet. We were the only Asian patrons for the night, think it explains why. The pizza was just average for it's price, but the mood for the whole night was ruined. For better service and food options, recommend Mercadante on Lygon or Gemma near Carton where they love patrons from all round. read more

Nice and fluffy pizza bases with a good chewy bite. My favourite was the Amatrice with the guanciale pork cheek ham with the tasty San Marzano tomato base and the herby basil. Delightful puffy crust on the edge / outside of the pizza. Delicately thin (almost dangerously so!!) in the centre. I had the gamberi (prawn) pizza which was just the right balance of tomato, cheese and prawns - with a healthy serving of the house chilli oil which is sitting on each table. Rocket salad was simple (rocket, pear, walnuts, parmesan) but top notch. Maybe a little bit of lemon juice or similar flavour on top really set off the other flavours. Washing all this down (still mid-meal) with a carafe (500ml) of the house red which is highly recommended. It's a very reasonable price and a great match for pizza. read more

I found this place on yelp and decided I had to eat here. I made a reservation for 6:45PM that evening. I arrived about 20 minutes early but was promptly seated even though I was early. I ordered the Fungi Pizza and Cannoli with pistachio, chocolate chips, and lemon zest. The Fungi pizza was good for pizza in Australia but still not as good as pizza in the United States. I was very disappointed with the cannoli because I found only four small chocolate chips that could have been mistaken for salt granules. The cannoli was loaded with pistachios but I wanted my chocolate chips! The menu advertises pizza by the slice but that is only available for take away (take out) and not available if you eat at the restaurant. The atmosphere is very upbeat and loud. If you don't like loud places this is not the place for you. The service was good and friendly. read more

A nice venue for a date. The pizza is delicious, a bit pricey but you won't complain once you start eating. Keep an eye out for the specials for something a bit different. Pair with one of the italian beers on offer or get the waitstaff recommended cocktail. read more

This place is super rad! Tonight they had a DJ spinning while we dined. The walls are covered in graffiti murals. All the staff was exceptionally friendly and our waitress was fantastic. The menu is very simple with some anti pasti, salad, pizzas, gnocchi of the day, and a selection of beer and wines. The space is small with limited seating. Arriving early likely ensures less wait vs dining later in the evening. We enjoyed the green salad, a simply dressed mix of endive, lettuce and cucumbers. It was easy for two people to share. The pizzas could be split but also one person with a healthy appetite could enjoy their own. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Okay, okay, okay, are you ready for this? SPQR make the best pizza in Melbourne!!! And I dare you to put it to the challenge. The red base sauce is incredible, simple, bursting with flavour and consistent with every visit. The white base pizzas are just as good. Their toppings only have a few ingredients so they don't over power each other and the amount of topping is generous and enough. The service is perfect and cute. Gluten free pizza option that in no way shape or form looks or tastes gluten free. Amatrice pizza was exceptional. Wait staff has perfected the mix of leaving a diner to solitary enjoyment with the right amount of courtesy attention. Food came out quickly. Such delicious pizza and the service was awesome. We were a larger booking and this place was perfect, all meals came out together and the pizza bases were wonderful. Nice and thin with a crust that's fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Quality toppings too. It's not much to look at from the outside but don't let that sway you this place is great. Small bonus too is that they source their glassware from a company that makes all the glasses from recycled bottles. A nice touch. Will be back. read more

Tucked in a small lane, the restaurant is a hidden gem of the city. I arrived past 7pm expecting to find a long wait... luck was on my side. I got seated after 5 mins. I had the funghi pizza which had that nice wood fired oven taste, and ordered the buratta which I was told is the best in Melbourne. It was indeed truly delicious - runny and full of flavor. the first time i came here for pizza was directly after a trip to italy and it was the best pizza i'd experiences. the parma pizza ticked all of my preference boxes. amazing chewy crust. piled with cheese, parma, rocket, and parmesan. i am from brisbane so on my return to melbourne 6 months later i could not wait inhale this pizza again. i was extraordinarily let down. they changed it so that the buffalo is raw on top. i have enjoyed that style of pizza before but here the buffalo is not of that quality to be more enjoyable raw. as a result the sauce was very tart and unenjoyable without the creaminess added from the melted cheese. there was also much less topping and the parmesan was almost non existent. such a let down. but i know it can be good so i would try again and encourage others to try it. read more

Pizza was great especially for thin crust lovers. Using wood to fire the pizza is really rare to see it in the city these days. Ambience was good. Candle lit tables with smooth music. Pasta of the day was the gnocchi which I felt was overpriced, serving was small for a price of $20, food wasn't as filling and great either.
