Racial discrimination alert! Cancel this restaurant! I went with two friends, both women of color. At first we sat at the front windows with nobody else in the restaurant. Then we were moved to a broken table in a dark corner when the white customers arrived. The light bulbs were broken above us, the only spot of the sort, and when we tried to get more light we were scolded and forced to sit in shame. The waitress was disgusted by our presence. She said the boss didn't like us having light. Clearly I'm not alone on this. Refer to other comments on this matter. Other reviewers have reflected on the issue of overt racism and more than just micro aggressions. Food is mediocre and bland. You'll have better luck at Domino's. Less racist fascists. Better value, too. Again, cancel this pretentious restaurant. It only caters to affluent white people. read more

Aloha, Kaprica Restaurant was highly recommended by our host. We called & they squeezed us in, nice. Tucked away behind a garage door in an old brick building, you wouldn't know it was a restaurant during the day, but at night, voila, it's quite lovely. Serving appetizers, salads, pizza, pasta & a few entrees, nice. We found the pizzas to be really good as well as the olives appetizer & of course the wine. Service was great & prices were decent too. Wish we could have tried a few more things, as my pasta wasn't as tasty, needed something, but all in all a good find. read more

Recommended by a friend who claimed that the pizzas here are awesome. Against that was my view that most pizza is overrated. Bottom line: my friend is right and I'm wrong (again). The pizzas here are incredible. Easily the best I've tasted in Melbourne. We had two. The one with prosciutto, rocket and cheese and the one with hot salami and tomato. There were likely other toppings on these as well but I was more concentrating on what my friend was saying than studying the minutiae of each pizza composition. The depth of flavour was exceptional on both pizzas. The pizza bases were perfectly cooked too. The staff were good here. The space itself is charmingly underwhelming. It has a somewhat unfinished and/or distressed look which curiously succeeds against all odds. But, the food is the prime focus here. This is pizza well worth travelling for. It's a 4.5. read more

Pizza and pasta served in a shop size warehouse in Carlton. The god father of traditional pizza has returned again to Melbourne with another great offering. This is a eat-in pizza restaurant with a window nook so you can eat at one table outside and have the pizza passed direct to you from the kitchen. Pizza's come in two sizes 10 and12 inches in traditional flavours with some specials. This is supported by pasta a couple of entrees, dessert and specials I would recommend the pizza on my first attendance I had the special white pizza with asparagus, truly very good. read more

I can't believe that I never knew this place existed... Went here the other day for a work lunch and it was great. The salads here are fresh, interesting in terms of ingredients and flavours, and also plentiful. The pizzas were also crisp thin based and quite tasty and flavoursome. The variety in choices was also great. And to finish it off, I had a sweet ricotta tart - who ever knew sweet ricotta was a thing? Amazing. Cool, funky, hidden and YUM YUM YUM. This is a great alternative for Italian pizza in Carlton. Located a stones throw from the famous Lygon Street Italian precinct, Kaprica is far superior and more authentic than most restaurants on Lygon. It works out of what was once a small parking garage (so can be hard to get a table) and has a great vibe. The menu consists almost entirely of pizza with a few other main meal options. Do yourself a favour next time you are heading to Lygon Street and impress your partner or friends by taking them here instead. read more

I live in the area and often duck in for a quick bite to eat or some coffee on my way past. The team are friendly when you grab their attention, though as a few of my friends and I know, it can be difficult to get good service here. I like this place as it is less in your face Italian than Lygon street (and you can avoid the crowds and overpriced meals). The cafe / restaurant is located in a converted garage and has a cool vibe going on. The exterior just got a massive graffiti mural as well which just adds to the charm of being in Carlton, eating tasty pizza in a converted garage. It's worth checking out, especially in summer time when you can sit outside and watch the fruit bats fly around the park. read more

Great pizza and pasta. I hesitated when i saw some really old furnitures at the front door. But I guess there must be some good food in there with this low-key decoration style. The menu is handwritten and copied with normal A4 white paper. We ordered the Fettuccine and pizza No. 5 & 10. They came out quickly and tasted good. But they seemed leave the restaurant dirty on purpose. Tables were not wiped and no toilet paper in the restroom. I give four star because of the sanitation. read more

It's always lovely to walk out of a place with nothing to fault. Kaprica was reasonably busy even on a Monday night, so clearly those in the area know what's what. A cute little garage establishment with some graffiti on the outside, nonetheless tablecloths on the tables. The menus are photo copies of a hand written list, adding to the homeliness with a nonetheless thoughtful small detail. Not too much choice to confuse you with, we only tried the pizza however. Lovely thin crust wood fired bases and gourmet toppings, not over the top but not stingy either, great classic flavours. Everything I would look for in a pizza and at a very reasonable price. Visited on a Thursday night and the place was packed! Food was reasonably priced and service was quick. By far the best thing was the food - we got a margarita pizza and entree and then mains of pasta - tomato sauce with buffalo mozzarella, Ragyu, and the mussels. Amazing flavored and food. I recently had a delicious lunch here to celebrate the birthday of one of my colleagues. We had another birthday to celebrate and all agreed that Kaprica would be an excellent choice. As there were 9 of us in the party, we made the point of making a booking so as not to inconvenience the staff. After 15 minutes of waiting, our table was not ready, and did not look as though it would be anytime soon. We were very disappointed that the staff were apparently unable or unwilling to find a solution for us. The manager was unwilling to move tables together, but said we could have two here and two there. We explained that the reason we made a booking was so we could sit together, and he replied that "It was all too hard."Our party then took that to mean that our business was not welcome and left the premises. He then followed us out of the restaurant onto the street and basically abused us. I should point out that the restaurant was by no means full or particularly busy when we were there. This place serves the best pizza! Don't be fooled by the outside graffiti. Once inside you feel warm and comfortable. The service was excellent and the meals were so cheap! Nice thin crust pizza. $14 and a glass of the house red was $8. You can't beat that. read more

My Fiancé and I ate at Kaprica last night. Firstly the table service was really good, the man that showed us to our table was great, then it all went downhill. My Fiancé asked the friendly waitress how many mussels were in the serving (as she was starving and wanted to make sure it was a substantial dish), the waitress said about twenty, so we ordered. Eight mussels came out and two were closed (some closed mussels can get you quite sick if they were dead before cooking, we weren't interested in risking it). My Fiancé apologetically asked to return them for two reasons: 1. we were told 20 mussels were in the dish and 2. two mussels were closed, leaving a total of six edible mussels... Not the substantial dish we had hoped for. After about 5 minutes the same plate comes to our table, the chef/owner had pried the two closed mussels open. We agreed with the waitress that they're dead and we didn't want the dish (as we now couldn't even tell which ones he had opened), so she kindly took them back into the kitchen. We had planned to order a pizza in the place of the mussels until... A couple minutes later the chef/owner (we found out he's the owner when he yelled "I'm the f***ing owner!") stormed out of the kitchen like a lion charging for it's prey and made a bee line straight to my Fiancé yelling and swearing at her face "Why the f*** did you return the mussels you stupid b****!" Yelling so loud everyone else in the restaurant was watching. I told him to chill and his response was "don't fucking tell me to chill, I'm the f***ing owner, nobody returns dishes here!" We were pretty blown away, it all happened so fast and he wouldn't let us get a word in. My Fiancé was pretty shaken up by this stage so she said "let's go, this is scary!" We go to get up and he blocks me in the corner and wants to fight me, in front of a restaurant full of people! We tried to tell him the main reason we returned the plate was because we were advised there were twenty mussels and not eight (or six) and he replied "no one would f***ing say that you f*** head." I actually feel sorry for the waitress that told us there were 20, she was super apologetic which was nice, but I still had this mental case spitting in my face yelling at me wanting to fight me in the middle of his restaurant to deal with. Finally he backs down and lets me pass and we leave, I got to eat 1 piece of my pizza (which was actually delicious) and have about 3 sips of wine. If you're a fan of UFC go to Kaprica, you might get to see the chef/owner wrestle one of his customers on the floor next to you while you're forced to eat your dead mussels. read more

Arrived here early for lunch and found them quite welcoming. Good table service and freshly baked bread. Butternut squash risotto was OK but not as creamy as I am used to. Overall, though, it's a nice environment for chatting and catching up over a pretty good meal. read more
