Matt's Garage Door (MGD) service is EXCELLENT! I attempted to change the weather strip on the bottom of my garage door, only to discover that the new weather strip didn't fit the 30 yr old door. When he arrived, the technician (Dan, I think) was able to install the new/correct weather strip in less than 10 minutes!!! After that, he did a full evaluation and adjustment/lubrication of the door, springs and hinges and adjusted the door closer to close properly. And, when finished he gave me a credit for the incorrect weather strip I had ordered for the door. My neighbor stopped by when she saw him working and asked for a card for service to her garage door. Just wanted to say how Matt is an awesome person and business owner. I called to get a gap for our garage door looked at and he called me back promptly and came over the next day. Because of the weather, he wasn't able to change the top strip but went out of his way to lessen the gap as much as possible while we wait for 65 degree weather. I asked him about maintenance and insulation and he told me that our door is pretty well maintained and currently does not need any maintenance and our door already has a good insulation due to the rating. EDUCATION/TUTORIAL: 5-star (can't get much better) LONG VERSION: Like others have reviewed here, I chose to undergo the DIY route to replace my broken torsion spring instead of hiring out. Also, like others, all I heard was how dangerous it was to do your own springs. For granted, with any such projects there are risks involved. And to be honest, if things go wrong with this then things really could go wrong. However, if you follow Mr Dan Musick's advice (owner, and guy who does the tutorials and videos) then you should be pretty safe. I will even say that one of his tips helped save me some injury (the vice-grips on the track above the wheel). To make thing even more interesting I decided to convert my one torsion spring to two torsion springs. Without Dan's tutorial I probably would have been lost but it actually turned out way easier than I had expected. Seriously, go check out Dan's tutorials - written and video - they are top notch. The only thing I can fault him for is his shipping. It is not cheap. For granted I ordered two springs and shipping was only $27 (still cheaper than other places or hiring out in the end!) but in my case I also had some damaged hinges which I didn't order at first. When I went back to order them from DDM the shipping for 3 hinges was something like $12 for $14 worth of parts. Point of me saying this is that if you have a project and are going to order... make sure that you order it all at once! Shipping if I got 2 torsion springs and a set of winding bars... $27.67. Shipping if I got 2 torsion springs, a set of winding bars, and 3 hinges... $29.31. In conclusion I would say that if you are a heavy-DIYer or even a light-DIYer then you can do this task yourself if you follow his instructions. If you aren't so inclined then I would venture to guess that Mr. Musick's installation service is also top-notch. read more

My garage door would get stuck about 10 inches up when I tried to open it. I had another company look at it and they told me to replace the springs which would cost about $275. Then they also mentioned to change out the rollers and the cables because they were rusted. The estimated price just kept getting more and more expensive. I'm really picky about my stuff and believe no one will care about your things as much as you do. I mean how many times has a contractor or repairman mickey moused a job. Review based on communications with Matt after he came out to assess my garage door and opener issues. I was so excited that Matt came to meet me and assess my garage. He is so energetic and knowledgeable and he pinpointed exactly what minor repairs were needed. I have lived in my home for 17 years and the opener has never worked in all this time. Matt said that aside from needed one roller and some greasing and a remote for the door itself, the door was in good shape. OK. So he said he would send an estimate the next day, then over the weekend, then the next week. Here we are a month later and Matt has blown me off. I have sent texts asking to get on his calendar, or for an estimate, or just to come and do the repairs... no response whatsoever ... and so now I need to look for another service. DDM rocks. The torsion spring on my garage snapped (20 year old garage) and I decided to try and fix it myself. The first video that came up on google for torsion spring was DDM. I went to home depot and realized that didn't sell the size spring I needed. I decided to take the risk and order it online. Again, one of the the first google search for torsion spring was DDM. I compared it with another site that sold springs and DDM was cheaper by about $40. Ordered two springs and the installation bar and it came out to $80 shipped, including tax. I ordered it on a Tuesday night and crossed my fingers that it would arrive before the weekend. Wednesday, I got the tracking number and Thursday night, package had arrive. I rewatched the installation video and banged it out in about 45 minutes. It's actually not so bad. Oh, I forgot to mention that I called two top rated placed on Angieslist for quotes and they were around $200-$250 to replace both springs. Ended up saving $120-$170 for less than an hour of work. Great instructions, great product, super fast shipping (I'm located in Chicago) and good communication. I highly recommend doing it yourself if you need to replace springs. read more

Very good information on their how-to videos and very good customer service. I completed replacing the broken one-torsion-spring system into two-torsion-spring system on my garage that is 7'x16' for the first time last night within an hour. It was actually much easier than expected and straight forward thanks to their video which you can find in youtube (http://youtu.be/zxUoJrLhaSI) . Saved me a bunch of $ on doing this myself. Changing car tires is much more work than this so if you can change tires, you should be able to do this. I also did order my replacement springs from DDM Garage Door...I provided them the garage weight, garage dimension (7x16), rail radius, and the cable drum number...they figured out for me what spring I should use. I initially paid for a different spring since I gave them the wrong cable drum number but when they reviewed my details it turns out that I needed a different set of spring which are more expensive. So that I didn't have to pay more, they gave me the priority shipping for discounted amount on 2 separate boxes. read more
