Matt's, your German omelette makes no sense in my brain but was the best omelette I have ever had. Garlicky brat, sauerkraut, Swiss and coarse grain mustard were pure satisfaction. I'm told, but wasn't allowed a taste, that the German Benedict was really, really good. Hash browns were freshly grated and you could taste the difference. The cinnamon roll was good, not quite as good as what I make, but still tasty. Our server could not have been kinder and for $40 with all of this plus drinks, it was a great deal. read more

Wanted something different from my usual Italian/Mexican/Asian/Burgers on this trip. Hmmm, German? Okay let's do it since they have a very good rating. Had the Sausage Sampler (3 different sausages with kraut and potatoes. All were very delicious. Started with a creamy clam chowder and a really nice and soft roll. All good. Let's set the stage first, please. I come from a German family. I spent 23 years in the Army ... five of those in Germany. I love German food and I know what good German food is and how it's made. Enough of the full disclosure. We travel to the Lewis-and-Clark Valley several times a year. Historically, we've gone to long-time favorites. Until two days ago. We decided to get brave and try something different for a change and we went to Yelp for help. It took all of 30 seconds to stumble onto MATT'S! Now, we're SOOOOO glad we did. No, you won't be greeted at the door by the hausmeister or Die (pron. "dee") Herr Chef. The exterior trappings are unremarkable and you just might miss it so here's a little hint... go looking for the place that appears to be a former gas station/minimart... bingo, you found it!!! (you won't be sorry.) When you walk in, you'll immediately get the clear vibe that this is where the local folks in the know choose to go for great food at great prices! Great GERMAN food, to put a fine shine on it. Expect to find a full house, please be patient. Good things are worth the wait, right? YES, right! When Amber waves you over and says "I've got your table right over here"... your German food experience is about to begin. You're going to have more choices than you ought to have to make... it'll be fine (it's all FINE!) So, what starter to choose from? EZ-PZ ... the Swiss-style mushroom soup (you can thank me later.) What entree to try first? Are you kidding me? Of course you should have the ... jagerschnizel, wiener schnitzel, chicken schnitzel, sausage plate, or any of the other yummy listings on the menu. you just can't go wrong! Now, what to have with it? Well, a glass of Riesling always goes nicely with just about any German food, so, nuff sed about that. (When Amber pours a glass of wine for you, expect a full GLASS of wine!) But... as for what sides with your meal? Let me say this... I haven't had spaetzle (German style noodles) that good since the last time I was back in Nurnberg, Germany! The red cabbage and the warm Deutscher kartofel salat (German potato salad) is right out of Bavaria. My point is simple, you just can't go wrong here, whatever you choose. And before you leave? Oh, yeah... dessert comes with your meal. You'll get your choice of several kinds of strudel. When you get asked which one you want? It will be hard to resist simply saying YES! They are all delicious! If you missed the key hint up above, I'll repeat myself... you get the vibe when the local folks in the know are here on a random night in the middle of the week. They have to be doing something right. Nope. --- They're doing EVERYTHING right! Now get in gear, go see Amber, and enjoy the "super kuche" from an authentic GERMAN menu. First time there yesterday and I have to give kudos where due. It was obvious from the onset that someone didn't show up for work yet the sole waitress was nothing less than calm, cool and collected, multi tasking like nobody I've seen lately. I did my part to help lighten her load by seating myself when a table came available, grabbing menus for myself and another joining me. Granted things didn't move terribly quickly but it wasn't anyone's fault and we got our lunch and ate with time to spare on my friend's limited lunch hour Best Reuben I've had in a while I might add, and the fries?? Holy moly! Super good and piping hot! Great little nook and definitely want to go back to the breakfast menu! read more

What a great place. Amazing service and legit food and combinations. For breakfast I had the German Benedict and it outstanding. I highly recommend it. The wife had a Belgian waffle and my Mom had an amazing apple stuffed pancake. All were excellent. The have spacious areas, A comfy fireplace nook and lots to see on the walls. They are safe to Covid and the staff is amazing. They have a wide variety of American favs and plenty of classic German dishes and beers. In addition the blend the two styles for what is creates an amazing dining experience. I cannot recommend enough this amazing place. read more

My first yelp review. I've been to Matt's several times. I finally had to do a review because once again, the food was awesome. The eggs Benedict is the best in the area. Service is always very good. The only downside are the hours are a little limited especially closing at 1 o'clock. But I guess Matt hast to get some rest once in a while. read more

This is a nice little hidden gem! When we first pulled up, we thought it was a gas station. They serve rolls with a German apple butter, but it's not your typical apple butter. It has sugar and spice and everything nice! The meal came with a soup or salad. Lucky for me, they had a Swiss cheeseburger soup. When in Rome! I got the soup and couldn't have been more pleased! Imagine homemade cheeseburger hamburger helper, minus the noodles! It warmed my soul! We got the German sampler and it was delicious! My fiancé got their chicken special, that too was delightful! When we saw "warm potato salad", we both thought that was strange. The sampler came with it and we were pleasantly surprised! It was tangy in the best way as it was not made with mayonnaise but vinegar instead. It was perfect! The schnitzel was awesome! At the end, my meal came with a strudel. It was flaky and homemade and perfect in every way! Will take everyone that comes to town to this place! read more

The waitresses are "hit and miss" when it comes to great service, but the delicious food the restaurant offers out-weighs the sometimes crummy service. Without Yelp I would have never found is gem. It is the local hangout and staff knows most of the patrons by name. A comfortable, rustic atmosphere and old school in the best use of the term. We had eaten light earlier in the day and that was a good thing. We both ordered the paprika chicken schnitzel. First a simple iceberg salad arrived, this was followed by delicious, eggy dinner rolls accompanied by an amazing plum butter. The chicken breast was lightly breaded, fried to perfection, served over spatzel and covered with a light creamy, paprika, mushroom sauce. Neither of us could finish our meal. Then our waitress asked if we wanted our strudel to go. Our $17.00 dinner included dessert. The menu is varied, so if German food isn't to your taste, go any way! read more

This place is awesome. We just moved to Asotin and this is literally the only restaurant in town, but there doesn't need to be another one. Matt's has a large variety of food, all of its delicious. The atmosphere is really good and the staff is even better. The waitresses know many people by first name basis and know what they're drinking as soon as they walk through the door. I guess that comes with the small town/local aspect but it's still really nice to see. Super happy to have this place here! read more
