VERY unprofessional! Poor communication with clients too. They don't return messages. They canceled our appointment with only a 30 minutes notice, despite me calling and leaving a message the afternoon before to confirm appointment. I wasted a day of vacation. After cancelling, they also failed to cancel the Xcel Energy appointment to drop our power line so Xcel crew showed up at our house for nothing. We ended up calling another tree place and had the tree down a few days later without any hassle. read more

I was hesitant to hire Matt based on the reviews on yelp. I'm glad I did. I had a huge maple tree in my backyard that I needed removed. I contacted four companies, the quotes ranged from $4000-$6000, Matt did the job for $2300. I was concerned about damage to my yard, but there was none whatsoever. They cut the tree down without even shutting the power to my house. The guy who did the cut was amazing, it's like watching a circus show. I came home from work after the storm in June, and there was a tree on my house. Understandably, it was not possible to get someone out to remove it for several days after the storm. When things had settled down a bit, Matt's and another company were the first to give me quotes.. Matt gave me a quote that was less than half of what the other company had quoted. The times he estimated for things were a little inaccurate, which wasn't too great, but it was likely from being overloaded with jobs. Other than that, things went well. The tree was removed safely and quickly, and they cleaned up their mess. Matt was also kind enough to work with me on my payment, as i was still waiting for insurance to pay me. Amazing work from start to finish! Not only was Matt's bid the lowest of 5 bids I received (two of which were over TWICE the cost), but everything was done with straight-forward communication, and nothing was charged until after the removal of the tree.The tree was in a tricky spot, on a property line with a (very close) fence, overhanging two houses and a garage. Removal took place with zero damage to any of the structures. They removed the VERY LARGE hackberry tree on the day that they said they'd be there (weather permitting), and instead of chipping everything onsite, they hauled it away, saving the neighborhood from any additional noise-pollution. I will recommend Matt's Tree Service to everyone, in fact, my sister needs some serious branches trimmed from her oak trees, and she's calling this week. read more

Matt's bid for removal of two large trees was competitive, and he was prompt in coming out for the estimate. HIs office also kept in touch with me regarding the work date and details. They showed up promptly on the scheduled day. Matt is clearly an expert in his job. The problem was he did not use reasonable care to protect my yard and surrounding area. His truck left many deep tire ruts and other damage to my back yard because he did not lay down protective plywood sheets for the truck to drive on. A corner of the gutter on my garage was damaged also, but they partially fixed it. After I talked to Matt about the back yard damage, his crew used the plywood sheets in the front yard, and there was no damage there. However, a cut tree branch somehow slipped and it damaged and knocked my neighbor's awning right off her window. Matt blamed the crane operator, but the crane operator blamed Matt. My neighbor talked to Matt but so far, nothing has been done. I talked to Matt about the yard and gutter damage, and Matt promised to come back out and fill in the ruts and holes, and fix the gutter. He returned about a week later, but only filled a couple small holes and did not fix the damaged gutter or the back yard lawn ruts. Matt and his crew worked hard, and removed a couple huge trees, but I cannot recommend him due to his failure to protect my yard, and his failure to follow up and fix all the damage as promised. read more

It's my own fault, I realize, I should have been there to supervise and let them know my expectations. I just wanted my tree trimmed to get off some electrical lines. I just came home and my tree is practically gone - they cut off whole huge branches all the way up. I have no shade in my yard now. Like going in for a hair trim and they give you buzz cut. Like I said, it was my fault but now the damage can't be undone. Word to the wise. read more

Matt's prices were great, and he got the job done. However, similar to other postings, his care for my lawn and his customer service following the job were just not okay at all. Ultimately, he came back and put some dirt and seed down, but it was beyond an adventure to get to that point. If I could give negative stars for professionalism and customer service, I would. If you don't care about the property to get to the tree, this is the company for you. The biggest problem was his immediate response to my questioning of the lawn treatment, which was to point to the contract and say he was not responsible for anything in what was a very aggressive tone. Contract or not (and I don't believe I signed anything) a tree removal company cannot simply destroy a lawn. When I asked him if he put boards down (obviously not), he said he had special tires. He then said the lawn was wet due to the rain, to which I replied that he should talk to homeowners about what could happen if he moves forward as planned. Always returned to the contract. Just frustrating when your lawn has deep ruts an hundreds of dollars in repairs to go. Another thing to watch out for was that the service moved items out of the way for their equipment, but they didn't put things back how they found them. I found a gutter extension in a bush, which was really needed to keep water away from my house. Disappointing. Though he was very adamant that no sod would be put down (I never asked for this, but he pointed it out), he did eventually come by with some dirt and seed. He was actually perfectly fine in person, until the very end when he just flat out told me he was on his last bag of dirt no matter what. I was just happy to have it over with. read more

*Important note* The only reason I am leaving this review is because after delivering poor service, Matt did not respect my wishes to not contact me. In the receipt for service, Square included happy & sad faces and asked "how was your experience?" I put a sad face for reasons you'll see below. It took me to another window and asked me to expand on what went wrong. I wrote a brief statement about what went wrong. At the bottom of this window, there was specifically a box to uncheck if I didn't want the company to contact me. I unchecked the box. Matt immediately called my husband and left a voice message that was so long it cut off, telling my husband the review was "WAAAAY over the top" and he wanted to talk to him about it. I would not be leaving this review if my wishes had been respected that we not be contacted. I called Matt's tree service to have a tree removed in my front yard. I called Matt's because my neighbor was having tree work done by Matt's, and he said they would give us both a discount if we had it done on the same day. I left a message. No one called me back. My neighbor texted me scribbled notes Matt told her was the estimate for our house. I called back and left another message, stating I wanted the work done. An assistant called me, who sounded utterly clueless. She said she would have Matt call me. He never called me. I did get a quote in my mailbox for removal of the tree and notes showing it would be removed Monday. Monday came. My neighbor told me the tree guys were at their house to do the work. I called again and left a message saying I'd never heard from anyone but I wanted the work done. My neighbor told me that Matt told her he never heard from me, and they weren't going to do the work, and that he had just left. I called Matt's office again and the assistant told me Matt hadn't listened to her when she told him he needed to call me. She tried to schedule me for several weeks out. I told her that was unacceptable. She got snippy with me. I hung up. Moments later, Matt called me and told me they could come do the tree the same day ("I've been so busy with storm damage, it's not her fault, I dropped the ball" etc, etc.). I should have known better than to continue with a company whose communication was so poor, but I wanted the work done and was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Matt said it would be done and cleaned up that day, and the stump would be removed within a week. I came home to the tree removed, but all of the debris (branches, limbs, trunk, etc.) in my boulevard. I texted Matt asking him when it would be cleaned up. He said the next day (Tuesday), because his equipment broke. I texted him Tuesday morning asking him to remove a branch that had gotten hung up in another tree when he took our tree down. It was hanging over the sidewalk in the boulevard tree. No response. Tuesday I came home and the debris was still in the boulevard and the branch was still hanging over the sidewalk. I believe he finally came to pick up the debris on Wednesday or Thursday. But he did not remove the hanging branch. A week later he still hadn't been back to remove the branch. I texted to remind him. The next week I texted again and he told me "tomorrow." Tomorrow came and still no Matt. Two days later he finally came to remove the branch. It sat, precariously hanging over the sidewalk for 16 days. The stump wasn't removed for 21 days. The whole experience was frustrating, and the lack of communication was utterly unacceptable, especially when concerning an issue of safety. As previously stated, I did not plan on leaving a public review, but felt after Matt failed to respect my wishes of not being contacted, that people really should know what they are getting themselves into if they choose to work with him. read more

Very unprofessional. Would NOT recommend. Took several weeks to get them out to the house, starting calling in April. When they came out finally in May they said they could not perform the services as they were bid because those were "winter" rates. Did not do what they said they would. Also damaged the neighbor's lawn and never came back to repair as they said they would. Bad company! read more

I was trying to get home from work and matts was trimming in my neighborhood, I had asked the owner politely move his truck since he had taken up both lanes of traffic, he became very hostle and cursed at me, then gave me the finger! Made an appointment in June, took a day off for them to come, then they called me the last minute to change to July 20th. I asked them to trim three branches, in which two were on top of my neighbor's roof and one on the side. He trimmed the ones on the roof and left the other one. When I asked about why, the man was aggressive and asked me for payment. I talked to him nicely and he said he would charge me $400 to come to New Hope. Absolutely disappointed for their unprofessionalism and rudeness. I would never use them again or recommend them to any human being. read more

We had a very large diseased elm in an extremely difficult location for removal. Matt's bid was very competitive and he was able to offer removal quickly as we were in a time crunch. He and his crew were on time, efficient and took great care to keep the surrounding area in great condition. It was an extremely hot day and that didn't slow these guys down.
