Having shave ice away from Hawaii can be disappointing, but not at Mauna Snoa. They shave their ice really well, small ice crystals, which is exactly what we like when in Hawaii. There are many flavors available, but be sure to get there as early as possible because popular flavors are gone quickly and you can be left with some odd choices. My daughter likes to get the root beer and then add the cream on top so it's like a frozen root beer float. I love to get the POG, which for those not in the know is short for Pineapple, Orange, Guava, a popular flavor in the islands. The sizes are generous, and be careful if you go for that big one, because it's VERY large. They do bring along some seating, but it's usually full. Marianna helped make my daughter's 13th birthday just a bit more memorable. We were walking home and it was dark, and she was outside of her trailer as we walked past. She had just closed up shop for the season when my daughter approached her. She offered to open things back up and make us 4 sno-cones (for my daughter, her friend, myself, and my wife) - free of charge. It meant so much to us, especially since this was the first season that I can remember where we didn't get one sno-cone. For Marianna, her business is more than just making a living. Whoa Mama! Got the chance to try Mauna Snoa Shave Ice when they came to a Labor Day Pool Party in Parker... Holy Moly!!! Two stars for soft ice and their melona and POG (passion orange guava) flavors. Otherwise... Pretty disappointing. Li hing mui did not taste at all like the li hing mui shave ice I've had in Hawaii. Guava severely lacked flavor as did Haupia, which also did not taste like haupia. I grew up on Waiola and Shimazu shave ice, so I've had a lot of great shave ice. Since "authentic Hawaiian shave ice" was advertised, I had high hopes and expectations for Mauna Snoa. It was refreshing on a hot summer day, though. read more

AMAZING!!! Their shaved ice reminds me of being in Hawaii, actually, it is better than the ones you get there. I love their blue hawaiian flavor topped with mochi. Awesome place! Tracked them down after Seth J's recommendation, and boy was it worth it! It's a given that theirs is the best shave I've you'll get outside of Hawaii. We drove 10+ miles to look for shave ice that tastes like Hawaii's!! Mauna Snoa didn't disappoint. I had orange/lime which was great! It seemed not quite as finely shaved as what we had on Maui, but it also was definitely NOT just a snow cone. You get a lot for the money. We'll definitely go back but may go earlier as they were running out of a couple popular flavors by late afternoon. read more
