First Impression: farm animals, dirt lot, and where are the chickens? Location: Nestled in the streets of chino with farms all around. Experience: We were looking for farm fresh eggs and came here due to the reviews and the fact that they were open. They offer a wide variety of chicken eggs. I had no idea how many color variations there were, but my wife wanted to try the green ones. I think it's because she see it online lol. We got a 30pc variety pack to get a taste of each. They even sell fresh and live chicken here. Note: The green egg has a darker yolk ... and i have to agree it does taste creamier and better. read more

I usually get my eggs from the The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano or a local spot in Fountain Valley. Unfortunately, you can't always get eggs because people swoop in and grab them fast, and the prices are pretty high. As much as I love The Ecology Center, eggs there are about $15 for 12. At this farm, you can get 30 eggs that are fed sea kelp and high-quality ingredients for $17.50, which is honestly a bargain. Yes, it's a bit out of the way, but if you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping here. They also have homemade jams and honey. read more

I've been searching for a local chicken farmer for YEARS and am so thrilled to have found Maust Family Farm - not only are their eggs delectable but their home grown chickens have been some of the tastiest birds I've had since my childhood in rural Texas! On my first visit I bought a whole hen to roast, some bone-in breasts for soup, some boneless breasts, and some thighs. They also offer honeys, jams, and various peanut butters from other local kitchens and I couldn't resist giving them a try since they had minimal ingredients, no preservatives, AND no added sugars! I also just had to try their green eggs. Everything has been flawless and of excellent quality. Their green eggs have the most vibrant yolks of any eggs I've tried at other local farms or when compared to the "organic cage free" eggs at Ralphs. They're larger too and the flavor is so rich - I absolutely loved them and they will be my go-to egg from now on. Their egg prices are impressive given the quality - I found them to even be a bit cheaper than the organic cage free eggs I typically get at Ralphs so it's a win-win! For the chicken, so far I've roasted the whole hen and threw the bone-in breasts in the pan to roast as well (instead of using them in a soup like I originally intended lol) - O.M.G. the flavors and textures were just incredible! I was immediately taken back to my childhood eating fresh cleaned hens from my grandparents' back yard. The flavor is much more intense imo and the texture is palpable, tender, and noticeably authentic. If you've never had birds fresh off the farm like this you should try it! You'll never be able to trust the grocery store meats again lol. The hens are smaller than what you'll see in the grocery stores and that's bc these are ACTUAL REAL chickens. I have no idea what they're feeding us at the national chains anymore and it drives me crazy - the food situation in America is so tragic and I feel so lucky to have finally found an actual farm like Mausts!  Just please keep in mind - if you are a stranger to fresh butchered chickens, you need to be prepared to see chicken heads on the whole hens and deal with occasional bits of feathers to pull out in places etc - again, that's bc these are authentic, real chickens lol. And also - all their animals seemed very well cared for with plenty of space and fresh air and freedom to roam while being kept safe. The price for their chicken is a bit higher than the grocery chains - but it's a price I'll happily pay for actual meat that isn't pumped full of god-knows-what. Maust farms don't use any antibiotics on their birds or any preservatives in their meats and they don't add all that water to pump up the meat weights etc.  The lady at the register was so nice to me - so patient in answering my questions and helping me get all the meat cuts I was hoping for. Their birds are cleaned and packaged daily by a USDA approved butchery and sold in giant coolers at the ranch. Everything is regulated and their ranch store was spotlessly clean - I was impressed.  They also offer whole roosters for roasting, various hen parts, gizzards, and even feet! And as far as eggs go, they all the standard egg sizes, green, brown, white - and they even have quail eggs and duck eggs! They have a very large ranch complex with tons of unpaved parking in great condition. They have a collab with Ian's Farm selling excellent veggies on site and they even have their very own petting zoo full of goats and other cute creatures lol.  I had such a wonderful experience here and will definitely be getting all my chicken and eggs from Maust's Farm going forward! We came to buy 2 live hens. Inside so small, people had to stand in line all the way to the outside line. There was a petting zoo outside and a small outside market selling greens and fruits. The chicken were inside the coop and not opened for punlic to see- that was following state regulations. We paid inside the store and the lady staff said just wait outside with the receipt. We waited outside with noone in sight. So we asked two kids that worked at the outside market. One of them replied just stand and wait, I don't know how long it will be. When we bought the live chicken, we supposed to check the chicken first since it was final. But the guy that brought our chicken, a young guy, didnt speak English, brought us the two chickens inside a box, and one chicken flew out. He was manhandling to catch him, so we didnt even bother asking to see the other chicken and hoped that the other chicken was not missing any body part. He took the receipt and he didnt give us 25 lbs chicken feed that we already paid for. So we had to wait again for another guy, who equally didnt speak English, to show up. We asked one of the guest to interpret it, and he gave us the chicken feed. read more

BE CAUTIOUS....... I was over charged on my poultry products. 1 pack of gizzards and I was charged $56.00. Because I was on an ADHD high of dopamine of all these new findings and being able to give back to local farm. To only get home and reread the receipt and see the CHARGE! I called and explained to a cashier, she informed the manager, and I was to get a call back in 30 mins. No call back after 3 hours. I called and now the manager was on lunch. TO THIS DAY NO RESPONSE. This is my wonderful life. There is something special about driving and discovering ranch with fresh eggs, fruits, vegetables and meats, truly farm to table. First time a Mausts, and boy the hunt for eggs is crazy. Not sure if it's always crowded here (but there were lines accross the street at their competitors also). The lot is nice because they have a petting zoo for the kiddos, and there is plenty of dirt parking. The prices are comparable, but if you feel they are a bit high, I would also consider how fresh they are here. Today I got a 30 pack for $15. Not too bad with the current grocery prices. It's not their fault bird flu is a real possibility. People were pretty nice while standing in line, in the rain. There were a few that just didn't think the brown and green egg limits applied to them. Quite a few people were pushing themselves in the door when it says to keep it to 5 customers at a time. They see the emptying table inside and panic. Chill out! They restock the table with white eggs constantly. Maybe they don't want to put twice as many eggs out because pushy people will knock the table over and smash the eggs??!! So, 1 flat of jumbo brown eggs (20ct @ $16.25), 3 flats of Jumbo white eggs ($24.75ea, 30ct and no limit on white eggs), plus 1 bag of gizzards ($8) was $98. I know we'll all look back on this in a year or two and laugh that we were paying 3-4x the cost for eggs. BTW, the car line to get into Billy's Egg Farm across and down the street was at least 15 cars long. No car line at Maust's. read more

Cute little egg ranch! You can see some of the chickens roaming near the back, and they have access to sunlight. The goats and sheep outside the egg store are also adorable! I bought some eggs and local honey. The cons I felt the need to share were mainly the customer service and the cleanliness of the egg shells. Out of the 24 eggs I bought, 20 of them had some chicken poop on them that I ended up cleaning at home. It looks like this place has an egg washing station but I'm not sure if they wash all the eggs thoroughly. The fruit stand outside was also overpriced and the lady overseeing was a bit rude. There's another egg ranch right across the street called Billy's Egg Farm that has cleaner eggs and the customer service is great! It's worth checking out. read more

Absolutely love this place. The Ranch Egg Store in Chino is everything you wish grocery shopping still felt like. The customer service is genuinely warm and welcoming, the produce is fresh, and the eggs are on a whole different level. They even have a nice little area where you can pet the animals, which makes it a great stop for families or anyone who just appreciates a wholesome, farm-style experience. And let's be real for a second--if you want washed, bland, basic eggs that taste like nothing... go to a grocery store. I have been a regular customer for a year. Recently I found that the egg shells are thinner and the egg white are watery than before, even though the eggs have pretty orange egg yolks. In the past, the eggs are sold with labels indicating the diet of hens, but now they don't show anything like that any more. Does that suggest diet change that reflect on the egg qualities? What is it with people being super greedy and fighting for eggs and taking crates and crates?? Some People act like animals, I swear. Anyway, I got a carton of the green eggs since I was there but I really went for the fresh chicken. I got legs, breast and thighs. I'm going to make fried chicken. Visited Maust's California Poultry for the first time this weekend. We came on a Saturday around 9:30am and there was a small line with about 5 parties ahead of us to get inside the store. Store itself is quite tiny with a refrigerator space filled with small cartons or large tray of eggs - prices vary depending on what the chicken's eat. There was also a cooler of whole chickens for about ~$17 each and a shelf towards the back with what looked like jam and honey. Purchased a "harvest" tray of eggs from different breeds of hen. It was a bit pricey - 30 eggs for $16 but we knew we were paying for the variety. I will say the yolks were bright orange and very creamy in texture when we cooked it up. Outside the farm is a stand selling assorted fruits and veggies from another farm. There is also a gated area of animals which was pretty neat. read more

First time here wanted a few more hens. Got tired of the Craigslist flakes. Found these guys thru Facebook. Jan 11/25. Birds look healthy and just a few weeks from starting to lay. I got production reds. They have other breeds as well as old hens that are much cheaper. Very busy place about 50 people in line and all transactions go thru the little office. You pay for your birds they give you a receipt and you give to a guy outside. Wasn't able to see birds before purchasing up close. There are a few things to ask when purchasing eggs directly from a farm. The ideal egg comes comes from Pasture raise chickens. What do they feed their chickens? Grain, soy, kelp, veggies Are they cage free? Yes they are. They do not have access to pasture but they do consume leafy goodness. How much? I don't know I forgot to ask. Are we purchasing eggs that were less than a week of harvest? Yes. According to the staff the eggs were harvested anywhere from 3 to 7 days before your purchase. This is as fresh as they come! Can't get the answer to this question from a grocery store. You can see the chickens & roosters. They have other animals your children can feed and pet. They sell - fresh produce/fruits -chickens (young & old) and roosters (live & fresh) -beef -chicken manure -honey -jam -olives We purchased 180 eggs, xl, brown for $75 We did the water test to all 180 eggs to make sure they were good since some reviews were saying the eggs were bad. Only 15 out of 180 stood up but none of them floated to the top. read more
