I can't say I would recommend this clinic. I know they are a low cost clinic and I appreciate the work they do but I can't recommend based on my experience putting my dog to sleep. We took him in to the examination room they were preparing the shot. This was the first time I've had to put a pet to sleep so I didn't know what would happen. At no point did they explain anything about how it would go or what would happen specifically. I was under the impression that there would be two shots, one to relax him and the second to put him to sleep but all they gave him was the one shot and he was gone. We didn't really get to say goodbye during his last moments because they didn't take the time to explain the steps and he was just gone. Afterwards they told us take all the time we need but I would have preferred hugging him one last time while he was comfortable and alive. read more

Love love this place. We were new to Jacksonville and adopted a kitten. Came here randomly and didn't know they had early check in (I want to say 7/8 AM after surgery checkin) and 11 AM for the 1 o'clock. We randomly popped in and although they were willing to take us right then and there, we were a day too early for the shots she needed. Came the next day and they took us immediately since we were there the previous day and were supposed to be seen already. Came back again when she got hurt and I don't think wait time is long at all. An hour is not bad in my opinion and we always get great service. Everyone is so friendly (even the pet owners here). Very welcoming and so cheap. I made an appointment for dental and neutering for my two dogs and although they're booked months out, I don't mind waiting to be seen here. They're wonderful here. No complaints. read more

I had high hopes for this place but the doctor on duty absolutely did not do her job and she shrugged me off at the end of the appointment. I came in to tell them my dog had been throwing up for a week maybe a week and a half and I was concerned. Not one time did she mention what he may or may not have nor did she run any test on him to rule any thing out, she told me to buy Pepcid ac and gave me some probiotics. I waited 5 hours for a 2 mintue appointment and NOTHING DONE TO HELP MY DOG. Fast forward 2 days later my dog is still throwing up and now he's throwing up blood turns out he had pancreatitis THIS WHOLE TIME. If the vet did her job it would have saved me thousands and we could have treated it 2 days before. Thanks Maverick . read more

The is the place to go for affordable pet care with a super coupon labeled "your time". Bring a kindle or book with you for entertainment, cell phone games may kill your battery before being seen. Unfortunately, the wait has just gotten a bit worst so make sure you plan ahead or use the time saving tips below. The reason why the wait is a bit longer now is due to 1 of the 3 normal vets here have left the company (Dr. Bushey) and has moved to Seattle, Wa. The other vet is normally in surgery throughout the morning, which leaves essentially one for some/most of the day. The popular strategy to reduce your wait time is to come just prior to 12 and get your name on the waiting list, afterwards return at 2 pm when they reopen after lunch. Otherwise, swing by before the roosters wake up and camp out on the bench (not car) like your waiting for the next iPhone. After people start arriving, be sure to line up in front of the door, some ppl don't give you credit for being there before them, and they will be quick to sign the check-in sheet before you (lesson learned). After I checked out, I asked if they plan to replace Dr Bushey soon. They said for now, no. I hope that means they just haven't found a replacement yet and are still "actively looking" for another quality vet to meet the demands of their fan base customers (2 legged and 4 legged). read more

This review was really hard to write and although I have put this off for so long I have decided to go with it. Mavericks is a great clinic. The prices are low and the staff is great especially doctor Jenkins, she's not only passionate at what she does but she also knows her stuff. Rumor has it that she might be retiring soon which is a bummer. Even though the prices are great you should prepare to wait. I'm not kidding. Here's some of the details... I took my little guy here for surgery on my birthday to remove a tumor hoping it was benign. Turns out it wasn't and even though he started getting better right after the surgery he began his stages of decline soon after. It wasn't long after that we had to make an extremely difficult decision to put him down because it was selfish for us to put him through this and he took his last breathe here. His ashes are now sitting in my living room with his favorite toy next to it. I don't really want to get into details about what happened on his last day but the staff was great through this whole process and did the best they could to comfort my wife and myself. We cried like a big baby especially me. I still miss and love you Rambo every single day. read more

After making many phone calls getting a lot of pricing for someone to treat my dog and it wasn't in my budget I kinda lost hope and thought it would be best to put my puppy down she has parvo and I didn't want to suffer. Finally a vet referred me to them and the price was perfect and they took her right in. Totally worth the 45 minute drive ! I have been here three times with three different dogs. Always the same experience. This past week, I had to wait 5 hours for a booster for my dog who has never been here before. By the time we were able to be seen, she was tired and restless from waiting so long. I am assuming the vet was the one who came in to the room--I say assume because she never introduced herself--but she came in with an attitude. Never asked me anything about my dog, how long I have had her or what her history is. She just immediately came and grabbed my dog and my dog tried to wiggle away from her. And THAT is when the vet claimed my dog bit her! My dog did not even ATTEMPT to bite her. Now the vet was really in a bad mood and started cleaning out the dog's ears--and promptly broke the q-tip in her ear. I do have to add that with my previous dogs--Lucky and Bella--this woman did the exact same thing and said 'shit' as now she had to retrieve the q-tip out of my dogs ear. I was seething at this point. After the exam, the vet sternly told me that my dog would benefit from behavior training and she was aggressive and then labeled her a 'bite risk' on her file. Never, ever, ever will I go back to this vet again. Three strikes--you're out. **I do want to add that immediately after this, I dropped my dog off at doggie day care---her report card said she was sweet, playful and got along well with the other dogs and they love her at Pet Paradise!** read more

Remember they could charge like the other vets and take appointments but that would not help anyone. They do what they can for a good price. They are clean and show honest care for all who come. We took our rescue one year old puppy in for her first wellness check. We got there at 7:55am, didn't get called back until 11:30am; not surprising since they are so busy. The office staff was polite. We saw Dr. Sleeper and he did a good job explaining everything from which foods to feed, best flea preventative on the market, etc. Didn't rush through the exam. His tech explained the administration of the medications she needed and they were marked with simple instructions. The prices were excellent, and I believe the combination of cost/care offset the long wait. I will return for follow up care. read more

They will take care of your pet rats, mice, rabbits and ferrets. They may see other animals as well these are just what I am aware of. The wait may be long but the clientele always seems to be interested in everyone else's pets so the time goes by quickly. You could end up with some new friends! read more

Called today to ask about putting down our cat who we love. She's got matted fur from barely getting up and is losing big chunks of it. We've been fighting litter box issues for over a year now as we prepared to bring out first child into the world. This included SEVERAL visits to Maverick's where we were either told there were no issues and just to have her lose weight or were given antibiotics and basically told to just give them even with no proof of an infection. We put her on a diet and we have the antibiotics and it still didn't work. We tried confining her with a cat box and manually retraining. We tried new litters, new boxes, calming aroma therapy for cats, and cat attract as well as daily time stuck in a bathroom covered in both urine and feces that we cleaned daily. Or my husband did since I was pregnant. We got her to use the cat box as long as there wasn't any carpet present because otherwise she'd go on the carpet, not ideal but we could deal with that. We paid to have most of the carpets removed from our new house and closed the doors to all rooms that still had carpet. Severely restricting the movements of our other cat. And now she's going outside the box again (along with the fur issues that let me know that she's uncomfortable) and our baby is almost 5 months old and starting to scoot on her tummy and almost crawl. So we can't put her health in jeopardy, not even for our kitty. And our cat isn't living a happy life uncomfortable, going outside the cat box, and scared of nearly any noise. She's stressed and sick and I hate that she's in pain. The people at Maverick's obviously love leaving cats in pain for a year while they funnel money out of the owner's pockets. We've contacted 3 different no kill shelters and none of them have room or they won't take her with cat box issues. So today my husband called about having her put down, it's not what we ever wanted and we won't be getting another pet for a long time because I hate this part of owning a pet when you have to make the decision about quality of life over quantity. And what did Maverick's say? We'd have to pay for an X-RAY now, after paying for the previous visits and antibiotics, so they can make sure there is no "treatment plan", despite giving us useless treatments before, before they will put her down. This prolongs the cat's suffering and continues to put our health and the health of our infant in jeopardy. It feels like all they care about is money and not the actual animal at this point. I can't in good faith recommend a place who would allow an animal to suffer for this long while funneling money and who would allow peoples' health to be affected because they want the big bucks that expensive and useless tests would provide. read more

I have taken all of my dogs here for years. Today I went there because I had an emergency for one of my dogs. I got there at 9:20 a.m. to sign in, the woman behind the desk told me that I had to be there at 7:00 to be seen. The parking lot was not full at all. I asked her if I could sign the list for the afternoon and she told me that it would be out at noon. I was so upset. I was not going to go all the way home just to go back and sign the list for noon then go back at 2:00 p.m. I took her to Claws and Paws and they worked her in. Now it's 11:30 and I am home. It didn't cost that much more. I will never go back to Maverick Animal Clinic read more

They offer great care at a very reasonable price. Had 2 kittens spayed and declaw with no issues. We got there one hour early to sign the pad and waited for surgeries list called first then office visits. They seem organized and caring. I've been taking my chihuahua here since she was a puppy. The last visit is the worst I've had before. I took her there for her annual check up and shots. The vet tells me that she needs her food to be cut back because she's fat and you should be able to feel her ribs. My dog is very active and eats very little as it is. Each time I tried to explain that, I was cut off from speaking. Then I ask them to give her a full check up and the vet said she did, even though my dog was with me the whole time. The following day, she was sore, I thought it was just from shots. But when I took her outside, there were words in her feces. This never should have happened, I'm on vacation now with my dog and was unable to get through to the animal clinic. I will NEVER take any of my pets here again. She should not have had worms in her feces after leaving the vet. Laziness. Go ahead and skip the lines and just pay a little extra somewhere else to make sure your dog is actually okay at their annual check up. 2 stars because the prices are lower. read more

I was shocked at my experience here after reading all the positive reviews and being highly recommended by a coworker. I took a day off work to seek help with my hyperactive Staffy. I have a pregnant significant other and my Staffy, rescued a year ago, has been making noise keeping her up from midnight through 5am. I sleep through it, but my pregnant SO is being kept up and not getting sleep. So, I thought this place could offer some help since this problem can have negative affects to my unborn child. Wow was I wrong. I knew they had long waits so I showed up 30 minutes before they open. While signing in, I noticed political rhetoric posted on the front desk which I thought was highly unprofessional, but whatever. After about 20-30 minutes they called me in to get my license and other info. The front desk staff was a little rude, but I brushed it off as being Monday morning. They then said to wait till I was called. After waiting two hours, I was able to see two vets. The female vet was condescending and rude, but the male vet seemed kind and sympathetic and actually offered a few ideas on why the dog might be so active at night (I run them a few miles twice a day so it isn't exercise). I told them what I thought the problem might be and the female vet basically told me, in a condescending manner, that I had no clue what I was talking about and they would have to run a blood test to figure out what the problem was. We talked a lot about allergies. So, I assumed this was going to show up in blood test, but was rudely told the next day over the phone it wasn't. I was also told that diet could be the issue, but their solution has a three month span and we need an immediate solution since the health of my unborn child is involved. They called me the next day. I was working and couldn't be reached. They called my pregnant SO as my backup and told her the blood test came back negative and there's no known issues. My pregnant SO asked if any allergies showed up. The vet tech rudely told her that allergies didn't show up on blood tests, we'd have to go somewhere else for allergy tests, and talked to her like she was a moron for not knowing this. The tech then implied I was confused or stupid for not knowing this despite not being told this specifically. My pregnant SO asked for advice on what to do with the dog at night and the vet tech rudely told her "we don't do that". We got no advice at all after all that. I tried to call them back multiple times throughout the day and only got a busy signal. To summarize, I took time off work, spent an entire morning at this place, spent over $70 on tests, and got no helpful advice or solutions other than a three month diet plan. I was hoping they'd be sympathetic to my situation with a pregnant woman not getting sleep and maybe recommend medication to calm the dog at night (or any advice), but no. The customers I talked to while waiting gave me the only helpful advice. So, I'd have been better off posting on an online forum to seek help. read more

Most affordable vet in the area. Just a note to people who don't visit frequently. Surgery (dental/neuters/spay, etc) drop offs begin at 8AM. All other appointments begin at 9AM. Everyone signs the same sign in sheet. If you only need to see a vet tech and not a vet, you get called sooner. I've seen people get angry that others arriving after them get called in first. These are the reasons. People should be honest when signing in as well. Cars sometimes begin lining up an hour before opening. When the woman brings out the sign in sheet, it's not who rushes her to grab the clipboard, it's the person who arrived first, second, third, etc. Some people even try to sign in "friends" who aren't even there but show up later. You WILL get called out for this stuff. Yes, there are people who believe they are entitled to cut the line. Emergencies do, yes and rightly so, but not typical appointments like vaccinations, ear infections, etc. One vet does surgeries, the other does office visits therefore the wait can be long. The office women always ask if you are okay with seeing a vet tech if it's for simple procedures thus shortening your wait. Do your pet a favor and bring water and a bowl unless they are privvy to drinking out of a hose. Seating inside is very minimal and there's only so much bench space under the awning. They do have a loud speaker for the parking lot but you would have to have your vehicle's window down in order to hear your name being called. If you have the time to wait, normally up to 3 to 3 1/2 hours if arriving at 8AM or later, this place can save you a bundle of money....and no office fee is charged if you are there for yearly vaccinations. I've been happy with their vet care for several years now. Minus one star for the wait and lack of seating space and parking. read more

Be prepared to wait. No appointments, all walk in. If you can't make it in before/as they open, come after they re-open post lunch (they will cut off the list at a point during the day). There is a small inside waiting area with more room outside. The prices are great and the staff is very nice. All of the vets are awesome. If you're on a tight schedule, don't bother. read more

I moved to Florida in 1999 and took my two 9 year old kitties and my two new puppies to Maverick. It may always be a wait to get seen but many puppies and kitties later we still go there. Thats 18 years if you are counting... The fact that their prices are lower makes it easier to go there and everyone is always so friendly. Some of their employees have been there since before we showed up which says a lot as well. Doctor Jenkins is the best ever! read more

I have brought my dogs here for at least 15 years. The vet is amazing and the services affordable. I have referred friends/family for quite some time. However, lately the staff has been beyond rude. The vet techs and the women at the front desk have zero patience and completely lack hospitality. They are overwhelmed and do a poor job of hiding it. After extreme difficulty obtaining prescriptions and foods that the vet recommended, we will not be returning and we will not be referring. I would rather spend more money somewhere else if it means dealing with friendlier people who make our lives easier. I hope this opens the eyes of the staff at Maverick Animal Clinic before you lose a substantial amount of customers. You work in healthcare! A bad attitude will only get you so far. read more

Mavericks is great if you have the time to wait, but it is worth the wait for the great service. Their prices are comparable to the Clay Humane Clinic, only it is first come first serve. Both Clay Humane and Mavericks have donation driven prices, it is because they get donations that allow for the treatment costs to be so much lower. If you want your main vet or other vets to be lower on prices I suggest trying to fund raise for them. read more

Not clean and techs don't wear masks when in surgery all the time ... Had a VERY bad experience here would NEVER go there again...besides the wait in the parking lot if your animal is sick or not... We have been with them for 13 years. Check ups, shots, babies put down. We have recommended so many people. HOWEVER, we just took our puppy there to be fixed and being pressed for time, they rushed through the procedure. Within 36 hours, all sutures were out and emergency surgery was needed. Will never go back. Find somewhere else. read more
