I took my Toyota Tundra to Mavis in order to replace all four brake pads. After I picked up the car, there was a screeching sound, which wasn't present in the first place. They took the car back to fix it, however the screeching sound persisted. I took it to the same shop a third time and their explanation was - "there is nothing we can do"?!?! Are you kidding me? Needless to say it was a very unpleasant experience and I will never recommend their services to anyone. read more

Horrible workmanship. I had been using STS for some time on two of my three vehicles. Don't let these guys do you any "favors". I was certainly cut zero breaks on fees and full rate charges even after the sloppy work. It was so bad I didn't even return to have it addressed by them as I did not want to be dealing w something as simple as a tire balance more than twice. Took my truck to the dealership where it was done right and now my new tires ride super smooth. Ron,the manager, was flippant and rushed. When I called him to tell him my truck was shaking like a '63 Studebaker, he was far from accommodating. A little customer service could have gone a long way here. If you work at a tire shop and don't know how to do something as rudimentary as properly balance tires you really need to find a new line of work or new employees. read more

I brought my car in to have a tire checked because the tire Pressure light came on. They told me there were a few cars ahead of mine but they would have it done that day. They never even called me to tell me that it wasnt going to be done that day and it would be staying there over night, which was fine but I feel like something you'd call about. After picking it up the next morning, they found nothing wrong with my tires but they did find $10 in my car that they happily stole and kept for themselves. Also my tire light came back on later that day. So all in all, I will never be bringing my car back to people who steal and everyone should be wary of the Point Pleasant location and leaving anything of value in their car for them to take. read more

Brought my car for a new tire. Left the hub cap was never replaced , or not put back on correctly because in my one minute drive home it was not on. Called and they said they looked and it was no where to be found. So after $160 on tire now have to sieve another$50 on a hubcap that they did not put on properly. read more

Management has changed. The shop personnel is completely different. There is now 2 master techs as well as a team of tire/lube techs, there is not much they can't handle. This location is becoming great once again! Yes it is extremely busy, but 95% of the jobs are done the same day. Dropping the vehicle off in the morning is highly encouraged. Prices are competitive and service is top notch. You get more for your money plus accurate recommendations on what your vehicle needs. Forget past experiences and give this new team a shot! Do not go here for tires! $600 Later..new tires also.the bad tire sensor light was displayed in car. Was told for $89 the light would go out so said ok replace it. Went back 2 weeks later because light was still displaying this. Was told needed to replace other tire sensors, $89 each additional tire. Would have never said yes to doing the one. Why wouldn't they check to see if the other sensors were bad before saying the light would go out by just replacing the one. read more

THIS PLACE ALMOST KILLED MY FAMILY!!! Do NOT spend your time and money here if you value safety. We went in originally to get my oil changed for an upcoming road trip and decided to get new tires while we were there. About 6 hours into my trip, my family heard a loud thumping sound coming from one of the tires. We immediately got out and checked each tire to make sure none were flat, and when we didn't find a problem, we kept on going. About 30 minutes later, the car was violently bouncing up and down and would not go much further. My three young siblings, my mother, and I found ourselves stranded on an unfamiliar highway with a defective tire. After much confusion and apprehension, we managed to find our way to an empty parking lot. We found that 2 out of the 5 bolts HAD BROKE OFF OF THE TIRE and 1 was loose enough to come off at any second. Only 2 measly bolts holding on saved my family's car from possibly flipping off of the road or much worse. The worker who put the new tires on my car, less than a week before the incident, managed to INEFFECTIVELY SCREW THE BOLTS IN AND/OR TIGHT ENOUGH. We were towed to the closest service station and the servicemen there said that the tires were definitely not "torqued" correctly, and they also said that we could have easily been killed if we went any further on the tire. When we contacted this company about their mistake, they told us they would "see what they could do." After months of waiting, they told us that there was nothing they could do for us. I did not expect anything from them, but I would have at least appreciated if they would have owned up to their mistake. I am shaking writing this review and hope no one wastes there time here like I did. I would give 0 stars if I could!!! read more

I called and was told there was no wait time, gave all of my info on the phone and they told me I was all set to head there to get my tire repaired. Got there and was told I would wait 2-3 hours. When I asked why I was told there was no wait they said I was sent to a call center that must not have known. So 40 minutes of wasted time and no fixed tire. Really need a better system. read more

Had a problem with a flat tire twice and Scott was great!- pleasant professional and efficient -first time found the problem, explained that I needed a new tire, did some research and found out there was a warranty- got a free tire. Second issue was just a nail, fixedquickly and back on the road in no time. Would highly recommend Maavis and Scott. read more

I had a nail in my tire and called this morning to get it fixed. They told me to come in at 11am and said it would be about two hours until it would be ready. I called at 1pm and they said the car wasn't even touched and there was 4 cars ahead of mine. If they knew they had more than 4 cars ahead of mine when I called why would they tell me to drop it off so early and then proceed to tell me it would only take two hours. Waste of time. Please do not take your car to Mavis. My daughter is a RN at Jersey Shore Medical Center in the Emergency Department working 65 hours a week. She left work on Saturday morning and dropped her car off to get new tires, told the gentleman that she was going home to go to sleep and she had to work that evening. At 5:30 pm she went to the shop to pick up her jeep and it was still on the lift. She asked why and he said she needed a bunch of work, new shocks, back brakes, etc. She was tired and felt defeated so she did agree to some of the work because she needed her vehicle. They also did an oil change on her jeep which she just got done a month ago. She did not have a car to take to work and she had to borrow a car from a friend. She went on Sunday to pick up the Jeep and her bill was over $2000. I am so angry and I will make sure that this will be on all social media platforms. You guys should be ashamed of yourself taking advantage of a healthcare worker during this epidemic. We are supposed to support them not rip them off. SHAME ON YOU. read more

Went to Mavis in Pt Plsnt Nj on Bridge Ave. I can't warn you enough to stay away from this place. While getting tires I was coerced into getting shocks and a wheel alignment. The shocks were not the rancho shocks I ordered and I went to another Mavis as well as a dealership to correct the alignment they couldn't correct. read more

Highly recommend to AVOID this place for services. It all began wth my appointment for a brake check and an oil change getting mixed up with a tire change with some other girl.... fine. Mistakes happen. But I had dropped my car off at 11... and I had to call back at 5 to get it back. When I arrived all was well, I got my car and left. However, later in the night my car started producing this awful boiling oil smell. I had no idea what this was so I had my boyfriend check under the hood. Not only was the oil cap NOT ON there was oil all over the engine AND THEY LEFT A WRENCH UNDER THE HOOD. How does a mistake like this happen? I returned this morning to get it fixed and they were willing to help. Nice guys... but when I went to pick the car back up all they did was clean the engine not the giant burn on the top of the hood.. never did he offer a refund just a free oil change. I said to the guy I will never do service here again and I wanted a refund since we had to spend the morning waiting on them to yet again fix what they just couldn't double check. This place absolutely sucks. They have people working there that don't know what they're doing. Which is dangerous when you're dealing with people's tires. I bought new tires paid for them and for a balancing, which is standard when you get new tires. Long story short they never balanced my tires. Bc I kept feeling my steering wheel shake while driving. Brought to my friends shop we took the tires off and they were EXTREMELY out of balance. And there were no weights on the tires(they use weights to balance the tires). Mavis guy tried to BS me saying weights might have fallen off in the snow. Total BS! Don't get ripped off like I did!!!! read more

This place is terrible. I went there for a new valve stem on my OEM rim. I have aftermarket one's on right now, so all i needed was for them to put a new valve stem in and thats it. So when i went to pick up the tire, the guy said "we need to bring your vehicle in to calibrate the tpms sensor" . (Tire pressure moderating sensor) 1. Why didnt they call me and tell me they needed my vehicle? 2. I just wanted my tire and i needed to go. 3. Im automotive engineer so i know what they're up to. 4. If i didn't complain, they would've charged me extra for the calibration, balancing and tpms sensor, I DID NOT ASK FOR! These guys are crooks and will squeeze every dime they can out of you. I really hoped that the reviews on here were wrong... but sadly they're all right. I also wish yelp would give out 0 starts or half stars because giving them one star is too much to give out. Please do not go here my experience was beyond sub par. * First. It took them an extra day to get my new tires on after I was promised it would only take a few hours. But they countered saying if I purchase a more expensive non name brand tire they could have it ready by end of day (aka they f-ed up and tried to upsell me a more expensive worse tire...not cool). *Second. They never re-programmed my tire sensors even though I paid for them to check it. *Third. After returning to have them re-program the sensors they said one was broken and needed to be replaced and then they attempted to charge me full price for a new sensor and the installation fees. * Fourth. Also did I mention that my tire blew within the first week of having them but don't worry they just put a $1 plug in and said it was fine. (Also was going to charge me for the plug too until I complained for 10 minutes) The saying usually goes the customers always right but be prepared when you walk in here that the customer is always wrong. read more

I made the mistake of going to Mavis Discount Tire in Point Pleasant. I went for routine maintenance, and after I left, the hood of my car flew open and smashed my windshield, breaking a few other things in the process and nearly causing me to get into an accident. The Mavis managers accepted fault for the damages initially, taking my car back to be repaired and setting me up in a rental. 1 month after this incident, when I came to collect my car as they instructed, I was told that the hood was not latching closed and that the car was unsafe to drive. I had brought in a safe car with a latching hood and was given back an undrivable vehicle. I was told that they would not be putting "any more money into this situation" because my bumper had some damage from a previous accident in July. The manager LIED to me and said that this car was never safe to drive in the first place and that the hood never latched in the first place, while I have photo, documented, and witness evidence to the contrary that this was a safe car with no problems before i came to this shop. They tried to make me sign a waiver after the fact, saying that they are at no fault for my current situation, saying that i was not allowed to have my keys back until I signed my rights away. I would not and will not sign it. It is a complete lie. I did receive my keys anyway, but this car cannot be used at all. The manager said that he has done "everything he is willing to do and will not do anything else" to rectify this. I now have no usable car because I decided to go to Mavis Discount Tire. Their actions could have easily ended my life the day my hood popped open, and this is how much Mavis cares about that. They lied right to my face because they don't want to "pay any more money". read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I went to get my brakes done at another service and they told me that my tires were completely destroyed and the back were dry rotted. They said they should not be this way you were sold bad tires. I got new GoodYear tires at Mavis a year ago and they have only 27,000 miles on them and should be good till 60,000 miles. I brought the paperwork to Mavis and the manager Kevin said you should have payed for our warranty. I said these tires should not need a warranty for 27,000 miles and dry rot. He said take it up with GoodYear...BAD BUISNESS!!!!!!!!! I have been driving around with defective tires with my child in the car. SHAME SHAME SHAME..Don't do buisness with them. read more

Heads up-- this is going to be a long one. I don't ever write bad reviews, because I work in hospitality and I know how skewed a bad review can come across, but I am deeply and genuinely disappointed in the service I received from Mavis. I recently went to Mavis because my car was having issues starting. Because my boyfriend works with cars, we ruled out a couple things, and deduced that the problem my car was probably fuel related. I dropped it off at night after I got out of work, and wrote on the envelope a request to look at the starting issue in reference to the fuel specifically (we hypothesized it could be a fuel pump or fuel filter issue). Stupidly, I forgot to take a picture of the envelope so I can't prove I wrote this, but the thing is-- you should have a level of trust with your mechanic that they will do what you ask. Still, my fault. The next day I get a call about my battery-- apparently the battery is bad and they think the problem is electrical. When I insisted that I only wanted fuel related elements looked at, the guy on the phone (Dave?) got pretty short with me, saying "I'm not going to do digging through your car when it could be this simple," and insisted the battery wasn't passing their electrical diagnostic, despite no light on the dashboard indicating I had a problem with the battery. He insisted that he couldn't be sure that the battery wasn't a problem until he replaced it with a $160 battery-- so essentially I had to pay for a new battery just to test the mechanic's hunch that it could be a battery issue, despite, once again, me only asking that fuel related items be looked at. In the end, my battery is pretty old so I agreed to replace it, hoping it would just be that simple a fix. Mavis also insisted that my spark plugs were bad (that I had had put in literally a month prior at a different mechanic) and that those could be further contributing to the problem. When they called me to let me know the work was done, I asked specifically if the fuel pump and filters were looked at and they said they had looked at the fuel elements in the car and they were fine. In the end, the bill was over $300 and as soon as I paid and as soon as I tried to the start the car the issue WAS STILL THERE and the car wouldn't start properly. I immediately went back inside and alerted them that the problem was persisting and I demonstrated the issue for not only the front desk staff, but also the mechanic who had actually worked on my car, and it started badly for them as well. They all insisted that after they had done the work this problem wasn't occurring any longer, and they couldn't figure out why what they had done hadn't fixed the problem. They started throwing out suggestions that I SHOULD DO-- put better gas in my car, put injection cleaner in my car, take my car to name brand gas stations-- EXCUSE ME, WHAT? The whole point of me bringing my car to a mechanic is so they can work on the car-- what was the point of me bringing my car here if all they can give me was advice on what I should do? Dave suggested a service they could perform to potentially clean the engine (seafoam?), but he said he'd charge me another $100 to do it. What kind of customer service is that? You not only don't fix the problem I asked you to fix, but you also charge me over $300 for work I ultimately did not need to do ASAP, do not offer to reimburse me for anything, and then say you're going to charge me another $100 on a hunch? What? The mechanic actually said the words "This kind of thing just happens in older cars," and all three of them kept throwing out other issues with my car, like reminding me that I have to replace my tires is going to distract from the fact that they didn't do what I had asked them to do and my car was still starting badly. In fact, they all gave me some really shady reasoning-- "it could be because the weather is getting colder," "It could be because you let the gas run to low," "it could be because you're not putting name brand gas in it." Furthermore, one of the employees, John, literally said "we want to rule out the cheaper, easier fixes before we move on to more expensive problems" like he was trying to save me money-- ok, but by the time you have ruled out all of these smaller issues, I'm going to have spent just as much as I would have if they had just looked at what I had asked them to in the first place!! The real cherry on the top here is that the mechanic, after having opened the hood of the car, looked at another employee and said "the only thing I can think it might be is the fuel." ARE. YOU. SERIOUS?? THAT'S LITERALLY THE ONLY THING I WANTED LOOKED AT. I barely got a "sorry" out of any of them. My family has been going to Mavis, and previously, STS for twenty years. My mom literally just spent almost $2,000 days prior on her SUV. I have bought my tires at this location, always entrusted my cars to this location, and this is how I am treated? Came by the store at about 12 noon and was met by a sales associate or manager Sean. I informed him I had a nail in my tire, he said that it was busy and that I would have to leave the car and that it was busy. Didn't seem too busy but I understood. I was with my wife and 4 and 6 year old. I had lunch and ran some errands and called about 2 pm, John answered and I asked if they could patch a tire. He said "it's quiet and won't be a problem to get you in if you come now". I drove right over and experienced Sean again who undeniably has some type of anger issue or is passive aggressive for sure. He comes off mildly nice but this a hostile employee. It suddenly became a problem as he recalled me from earlier and now I would have to wait. I explained to him that I had just called and was told to bring the car by. I parked the car in front of one of the bays as every bay was empty. He said the car had to be moved and got into the vehicle and sped across the lot at about 40 mph. Extremely dangerous and that was my vehicle. He went on to tell me that I would have to wait in order. I explained that's not what John said. I told him that this is terrible service. He went on to chastise me in front of another customer telling me that I pulled up earlier in a fire zone and that I couldn't do that. That I expected to be taken quickly and I guess he didn't like that. I merely parked in front of the building as I've done for the 15 yrs I've come here not thinking of it being a dangerous situation. The kicker of all of this is, I waited an hour and the tech who was a nice guy parked my car in the same fire zone that Sean chastised me for parking in earlier. What a joke. This person is a full bore terrible employee and I will undeniably not be returning. Too bad. Point Pleasant is a small town and there is no room for this lack of service. Too bad at STS was a far better business previously. read more

Been going to sts for years on March 3 I went to get tires for my Subaru with an alignment and balance ,got the tires but no balance or alignment that I paid for .my car shook every time I got to 60 MPH or more. Went back over a month later and they supposedly did what I paid for. JERRY WASN'T THERE THAT DAY. But the other guy in charge that day I don't know his name should be fired before he gets someone killed or seriously injured .now I have to go Elsmere for my car needs. read more

I went in to have my front tires changed on my front wheel drive vehicle. I specifically asked them to not rotate the tires ( because I knew that was typically what they do). I was told that they would not rotate the tires. Apparently, the front desk attendant did not take this note down under the customer request section, nor did he tell the mechanic. They rotated my tires and put the new ones in the back. I turned down the tire protection ( which is my own fault but I never got it before ). I also did not realize that they rotated my tires. I was just assuming that they were not going to, since I asked and they agreed. Two weeks later, I got a large piece of metal stuck in my back tire. Now I know that STS could not prevent this from happening, but had they listened to the customer request I would only have to change my old tire that was supposed to be in the back. Now I have to change a brand new tire which is less than 1 month old. I get that mistakes happen, but this was a little careless. If you can't fulfill the customers simple request then that is a problem, especially when there are so many other competent shops that can. I will not be going back. read more
