I got a massage here with my mom. I called today and yesterday to confirm the prices. I was quoted $50 for a full body Swedish massage and $55 for a full body deep tissue massage, which seemed like a good price in the Ventura county. Unfortunately, it was the worst massage I've ever gotten in my life. My neck was even more sore afterwards than it was when I initially came in. My mom seemed to enjoy hers and got the light pressure Swedish massage. There was a huge language barrier. I asked the lady three times if she can focus on my neck, but she failed to do so. She actually did not get ANY of the knots out. I asked her a couple of times if she can apply more pressure. It literally felt like I was just being gently rubbed down then rubbed down with oil. She also used hot stones, just threw them on me and one of them hit my back on my head since I was lying in a prone (face down) position. The two masseuses were also talking/laughing the entire time to one another since we were in a shared room. My mom's masseuse's cellphone rang on full blast three times so it was hard to relax. I was literally waiting for the massage to end because it was so unpleasant. When I checked the time, the massage was only 50 minutes from the time they started versus the 60 minutes I paid for. When it was time to pay, they quoted a different price. Instead of the $50 Swedish massage, they keep insisting it was $55 and kept pointing on the sign. I told them I spoke to a man on the phone twice and clarified with him three times the prices I was initially quoted: $55 for full body deep tissue and $50 full body Swedish massage. The man was massaging a lady in a chair and paused her massage and insisted he told me the correct prices. I was arguing with him and I realized I was getting nowhere. I didn't want to ruin that lady massage since he had stopped massaging her. The lady took my $120 and said, "Okay $55 for each massage and $10 tip for her. Thank you." She had the audacity to decide what tip to give my masseuse and decided to not give me back any change. ( I had previously given my mom $10 to tip her masseuse.) At this point, I was so livid. I knew I was getting nowhere and just left with my mom. I actually realized I asked the two ladies about the $50 Swedish massage and the $55 deep tissue massage, which they both said yes that's correct when we got there. However, due to the language barrier, they probably had no idea I was saying. Basically, I spent $130 for a sketchy experience. The actual massage area is sort of dirty and the towels looked old and discolored. I'm definitely not coming back. If you ever go here, I strongly advise you to clarify the prices once you get there. I popped into this place tonight, because I have been an extreme pain in my lower back, hips, and left leg. Pretty sure it's sciatica, and a bunch of other things going on. I have never had a massage like this before. The woman, Lena, knew exactly what to do to relieve the sciatic pain. Out of all the massage places I've been to in the V.C., this one is fine enough. It doesn't really stand out to me as remarkable compared to the others in either a good or bad way. I will be back I'm sure. I only get a foot massage at these places, and have yet to really figure out which place has the best deal. I had called beforehand to make sure someone was available, because it does annoy me quite a bit to walk in and not be able to get a massage when I want/need one. A therapist was available and started my massage right away. One negative was that the water was just too hot for my comfort. I know I have sensitive skin though, so for anyone else this may not have been a problem. She was really nice and ran to get a few ice cubes right away to put in the water. This therapist did a great job, I won't lie. I can't recall her name right now but I may have put it as a "tip" on the page. One other "negative" was that I did hear a customer say "Ow!" quite loudly across the room. She was getting a full body (?) massage and I was a bit sketched out by that. This is a hidden gem! A no frills former house converted to a body massage and foot reflexology business. On a busy street. But I am in heaven!!! I'm a runner with a history of minor foot injuries and some of my foot muscles have been hurting for the last few days. On a whim I decided to check this place out, no reservation. The sign in sheet asked for the treatment you wanted, the speed,& intensity. I waited no more than 10 minutes before I was escorted to a foot massage chair. First they soaked my feet in very warm water. Then my legs, feet, & toes were saturated in massage oil and the next 30-40 minutes were kneaded, pressed, and lightly slapped to submission. The icing on the cake was the application of hot stones to my foot and calf muscles. Ahhhh!! How did I not know this kind of thing existed before? The prices were insanely low: a mere $26, plus a 20%+ tip. This is the kind of indulgence I can totally justify a couple three times per month. I only wished I lived closer to partake here again - I'm a weekend tourist. If a fancy spa is your thing, run away as this is not your thing. If you want someplace to trust your toes and atmosphere isn't an issue, this is the place for you! read more

My body was just wracked from stress as I am recently out on a work comp case for stress and the worry and all other emotions have basically killed my body. I waited too long for massage and everyone's appointment book was full. So I Googled massages in Ventura and found this one. Every rating was 5 stars so I figured I'd give it a shot. Called them just before they opened and got to go straight over. At first I thought, this is kinda weird, all the tables are in open rooms--no doors--and then even weirder I didn't have to disrobe!! Never had that happen with a massage in all the years I've gotten them so my initial reaction was that I wasn't going to be happy--but then I decided to be open to it...and lo and behold! I requested a 6 out of 7 for the deep tissue knowing it was going to hurt but was necessary. I walked out of this place feeling like a million bucks! Every part of my body has hurt for two weeks and in one hour I have ZIP pain!! Only a couple of tender spots from the pressure but all my original tension flew out the window!! I can see why they have so many 5 star ratings! They've only been open 7 months but I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for a good massage if you don't mind that your actual skin isn't being massaged. Max Relax off Telephone is great. Today which is the day after my 30 min chair massage my shoulders and neck are sore, but the good kinda sore where they actually did something to get the knots out. Overall, I had a knot in my neck and shoulder and they ground it out. Its better than other places where they just go through the motions and when you leave its like nothing was done. I asked for level 6-7 for intensity and i got it! 30 mins for 21$ and I tipped 6$ for a 27$ total. Is there a tipping standard? Wherever i get a massage they always look disappointed like i should tip them 100$ or something. I tipped 10$ last time and they were still kinda meh about that. Worst massage experience I've ever had in my life. The people in there may not have their licenses. The man that massaged me hurt me more than anything. I actually had to have him stop my massage because he was elbowing my spine with all of his body weight over and over and over. It hurt me pretty badly where I could barely walk after. I get massages at least once a month and I know a good massage from a bad one. I wouldn't even call this a massage. More like an elbow session. They did not use their hands or fingers once. It was painful and very unprofessional. I waited for 20 minutes for my massage. Anytime someone would walk in or the phone would ring, they would stop massage of you to go help the new person- while your clock is still ticking. I was upset when my massage guy was gone for about 2-3 minutes on the phone. The don't understand English and they also don't ask where you are hurting. During the massage they also don't check with you on pressure or comfort. I actually asked him to stop 2x and he just said ok and kept going. I finally had to move off the bed so he understood what I said. Pay $10 more and go to a professional place that is licensed, knows what they are doing and will understand you. This place is nice to look at but you may end up with a hurt back. Long story short- I left with a hurt back and bruises on my neck. I'm still in pain. I went to a chiropractor to be fixed. I visited this place for the first time with my husband go treat him to some relaxing time. The young man who was at the register had a rushed vibe about him from the get-go! During the 30 minute body massage this same young Asian guy was sucking on his teeth, scratching his face, and sighing over my body! It was disgusting! Then when he was massaging my feet he literally yanked the towel from under my feet and continued to suck on his teeth or clean them with his tongue. This was a disgusting experience and the owners need to get that boy a job there where he doesn't interact with people! Or change his disgusting habits! Will NEVER go back again! I've been visiting Max Relax in Ventura every three weeks for a few years now, since I tried other places in town and didn't like those. Chen gives the best reflexology foot massage ever! I understand he is the owner and has expanded to Camarillo and Port Hueneme. He is most often running the Camarillo shop now, so now I must make appointments with him to meet me in the Ventura location before he goes to Camarillo. Mornings just after the shop opens. Once, I even drove to Camarillo for an appointment. I have Plantar Fasciitis and Chen's foot massages are SERIOUSLY the best therapy for my foot. He knows exactly where to press hard and lets up when he sees my expression if it's a little too rough. It is more like a "deep tissue massage" for my feet. Since going to him, my foot is so much better, hardly noticeable. Chen's primary language is Chinese, yet he understands and speaks English fairly well, unlike others in his shop. Though all employees are very friendly, helpful and they accept walk-ins, most of them don't communicate in English very well. If you really want a great massage with someone you can communicate with in English, ask for Chen and make a morning appointment. I pay $35 for one hour foot massage! Plus a $10 tip. He checked in often to see if pressure was okay. Got into knots in my hips and shoulders with accuracy and purpose. My husband and I have tried several "foot spa" type massage places, and this place is our favorite. The location is pretty convenient, except for the parking is limited. Of the 5 times that we have been here, we've never had to wait long and they do honor appointment requests. The rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The only thing that could potentially be a problem is the language barrier. The employees we've encountered speak very little English (if any), but they understand "softer", which is all I care about lol. When you go to this type of place, do not be ashamed or afraid to ask for softer or harder pressure. Employees here seem to be receptive and respectful of such requests.
