After an informative assessment appointment, I decided to move forward with them. From the beginning, Ben was professional and thorough. He provided a detailed written contract, walked me through his process, answered all of my questions, and ensured the workspace was cleaned at the end of each day. Even when the project extended beyond the original timeline, I appreciated that Ben kept me updated about the challenges he was facing. His communication and transparency were reassuring. Unfortunately, the strong communication didn't last. Toward the end of the project, Ben became unresponsive. Two important tasks remain unfinished, the correction of a gutter that was improperly installed over my back porch and the removal of a large "Bagster - Dumpster in a Bag" filled with trash from the wall replacement. The last time I spoke with Ben was on May 14. He mentioned he was completing another project in GA and would contact me when he returned. Over a month later, with several unanswered messages, I'm having to find someone else to fix the gutter and figuring out how to dispose of the waste left on my property. Ben and his team clearly do quality work, but I'm disappointed in how the project was left incomplete. For potential clients, my suggestion is to hold off on making your final payment until all aspects of the job, including clean-up and waste removal is fully finished.

He promptly called me back and discussed coming out that weekend to give us an estimate for painting our house. He never showed or called. I called him back the following Tuesday with another message. I was very polite and understanding in my message to him. I stated that I understood how busy he is and that we were not rushing him in any way, just that we really would like for him to come out and give us an estimate. He never called back. Several months went by and my husband decided to reach out to him. We thought maybe the timing was just really bad for him earlier, so decided to give it another shot. Again, several communications with Mick via phone calls and text. He again stated he would come out on that weekend. My husband even texted him the night before to confirm. No response from Mick. Bottom line is, Mick, this is a very poor way to conduct business. If you don't want the business or are just too busy, please just say so. Stop giving people the runaround!

Chuck advertises himself as a custom home builder and remodeler who always stands behind his work. I was impressed with Chuck's knowledge of his trade and hands on approach during the proposal stage. I have hired a number of professional builders and built several large homes. In my opinion, having seen first hand how Chuck runs his business, I would not hire him again to do any work on my house and I certainly would not advise anyone to let him build them a custom home. I would suggest looking at other custom builders in the Beaches area; there are some good ones. We hired Chuck Horn to do some major repairs including some specifics leaks, after hurricane Irma. He promised that either he or John Shepherd would be on-site to supervise the repairs. He stated that he would properly repair the damage, hunt down and fix the leak source, and provided us with a fixed price quote. It was agreed that if hidden damage was discovered or initial investigation failed to find the leak source and further investigative cost was incurred, he would provide a separate quote. The bottom line was Chuck would solve our problems. On the start date 2 workers showed up, an inexperienced helper and a questionable foreman. A sub-contractor was brought in to do the caulking and painting. Most of the work was done by the helper alone, so a job that was supposed to take 1 1/2 months stretched out for 4 months with lots of problems. Chuck came out once or twice during that time after we complained about how many days were lost because no one was showing up. Chuck told us that the work would be "water tested" upon completion but we were never told or saw that they did the testing. Within the first month after completion we noticed a leak in the exact location where they were contracted to repair and immediately notified Chuck. Several day later John Shepherd informed us that Chuck had no idea where the water was coming from. So, they did not fix the leak, which they were hired to do; they did not offer to refund the money we paid them to fix the leak; nor would they continue searching for the source of the leak, even though they apparently fixed the wrong area and never tested the work. I put the blame for this mainly on Chuck, who was nowhere to be seen when the work was being done.

Before purchasing my home, they were hired to replace/repair several shingles. About 9-10 months later, still within their clearly stated one-year warranty, I discovered that ONE of the shingles they had replaced was missing. I contacted them to have it fixed under warranty. Steven Scoates initially asked me to text photos, which I did, including before-and-after pictures that clearly showed the shingle was part of their original work. After that, he stopped responding, even after multiple follow-ups. When he finally did reply, he denied responsibility despite the documentation and the contract stating they would replace all missing or loose shingles. He then passed me off to Mike, who called and said the repair would be taken care of right away. Just like Steven, he disappeared too--no updates, no repair, and no responses to follow-up messages. All of this over ONE shingle. If this is how they handle a simple warranty request, I can only imagine how difficult it would be for anyone with a larger issue. Photos will be attached so you can judge for yourself how they stand behind their work before deciding whether to hire them.
