This is a very large, well stocked store, but what makes shopping easier in a place this size is how knowledgeable and helpful the staff usually are throughout the store. I was able to purchase all the bottles I wanted without any issue. Unfortunately, my checkout experience kind of ruined the ending for me. After my bottles were boxed up, I placed them back into my cart and moved the cart slightly away from the register area while preparing to pay. The cashier, Leslie, then said, "you have to pay for those," in a way that felt very accusatory almost like she thought I was about to walk out with a cart full of liquor. Considering I had over 30 bottles sitting there in plain sight at checkout, I found the comment unnecessary and honestly a little offensive. That interaction definitely left a bad final impression because your last point of contact matters. Leslie could've approached that differently. Overall though, the store itself was excellent, very well stocked, and the majority of the staff were friendly and professional. I would absolutely drive back here again for the selection alone. But in the past couple of weeks, every time I have been in the shop I have been feeling more and more unsafe. First it was just one employee who was improperly wearing a mask over their mouth but not their nose. The next week, the same employee was no longer wearing a mask at all and was serving two mask-less customers. And the final straw was last week, when I was there, there was 3 different employees going mask-free. We really love Hanley's, but we won't be going back until we're confident that they are taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone in the community safe. We have family at home that are immune-compromised and can't put them at risk. And NJ has gone through too much with the lockdown, we don't feel right supporting businesses that endanger all our progress.
