Incredibly delicious food, the service was the best. We ate on the porch with a beautiful view, so the ambiance was perfect.

First night back since ownership changed. It was a very busy February 14th, staff was overwhelmed but were doing their best. Wait time was longer than expected, but the cocktails were wonderful as we waited. Food was quite good, we ordered the last order of dumplings- not as good as remembered but tasty! The short ribs were amazingly delicious and as expected from previous visits. Sirloin was very flavorful with a nice crust and was perfectly cooked; however it was cold when delivered and the lovely hand cut fries were undercooked. We skipped dessert due to long wait times. Nice to see the restaurant busy but a bit disappointed in their preparations as heard many items had run out when they typically only take reservations so should have been prepared. read more

We have patronized the wonderful restaurant Kevin and Jenna ran., and enjoyed many a fine meal there. We visited last Saturday night, to find a shell of that restaurant. The menu is greatly pared down (and--incidentally--the updated menu is not the one on the Snowvillage Inn website), although the food was ok. There was no a/c running on the wing upstairs with the rest rooms. The saddest part is that it was so badly understaffed (2 servers) that we only received our food nearly 2 hours after our reservation. The servers did an admirable job in a terribly difficult situation--although even on a Saturday night, the dining room was only half full. We understood that a labor shortage has impacted many restaurants, but perhaps the management should limit reservations to a number that can be well accommodated? The setting remains spectacularly beautiful--we will miss seeing it. read more

Overall good experience. Ambiance is very quaint and picturesque. However, based on the website, photos, and menu prices, I was under the impression this would be a high-brow kind of place. Thankfully it was a little bit laid back. Service was okay. The one handicapped spot is not readily apparent and the handicap entrance is through the kitchen. I'm really bummed to be writing this review. I first went to Max's a few years ago for a NYE dinner and I remembered it being so yummy compared to the usual mediocre food in this area. We went back tonight (a Saturday night) to celebrate a milestone birthday and left disappointed: My reservation booked online said we were celebrating a birthday. No staff acknowledged. In fact, other than the hostess, we sat at our table for 10-15 minutes before any staff approached us. No "I'll just be a few minutes," no water, nothing. My meal (that I talked up and remembered from a couple years ago) was Forest Fettucine. I loved it then. Tonight it was full up on "seasonal vegetables" that aren't seasonal and are mostly full of water. Much fewer mushrooms and pasta, which was what I loved. My dining companion's steak was ordered medium rare and was served medium well. My glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been open awhile. Dessert menu was uninspired garden variety stuff. I am guessing they order them in now and don't make on site. And of course, no free birthday dessert was brought to the table, nor was there a song. :( I love this location and I want to love this restaurant. I know times are tough so I'm not rating them even lower, but that is how I feel. Next time I go, I'll go to the pub section, enjoy the fantastic music, and stay away from the pricey disappointing section. :( If I go back and it's better I promise to update! read more

Max's Restaurant is the perfect combination of cozy and elegant, tucked away off the beaten path in the charming town of Eaton. As guests who typically stay right at Snowvillage Inn, it's so nice to be able to just walk downstairs to dinner, especially on those colder New Hampshire winter nights. From the servers to Darlene (the bartender) to owners Jennifer and Kevin, everyone at Max's is so hospitable and make you feel right at home. On my most recent stay at Snowvillage, we made a reservation at Max's on Friday night and planned on going out and exploring somewhere else in town for Saturday but we loved our meal so much, we ended up staying in both nights! On both nights we started with the ahi tuna nachos which were the perfect shareable appetizer. Night 1, I ordered the seared scallops which were perfectly cooked and were served over a parsnip puree and finished with a pomegranate molasses. So delicious, I could have licked the plate! And the salmon roe on top added a nice salty touch. Probably my favorite dish of the weekend! Night 2, I opted for the catch of the day, a delicious Asian-style halibut topped with seaweed and roasted garlicky mushrooms served over a bed of japonica rice. So flavorful! Don't skip out on dessert too! The flourless chocolate torte and New York style cheesecake were both the perfect sweet endings to a wonderful meal. We can't wait to return again very soon! read more

We've been to Max's many times in the past when the former owners were there and it was excellent. This time the service was excruciatingly slow and the food okay but not stellar. It was a Saturday night and looked like only one waitress was on, no bartender that I saw. Hopefully they'll improve by summer- we love having cocktails and appetizers on the porch with the view. read more

The views of the White Mountains and the ambience are wonderful. A lovely location. Can't ask for more there. But you really can ask for more with the food. If you're going to charge $39 for a sirloin steak, cook it to order. Really, for that price, it should be a better cut. Delmonico, perhaps. It should be USDA prime, too, and I doubt this sirloin was. It was a bit too thin, too, should be about 1.5 or even 2 inches, not one, and maybe that's why it was wayyy overcooked. I asked for medium rare, and got medium well, and well-done on the thinner parts of that frisbee. Wasn't going to send it back, though, it tasted okay and I despise people that send stuff back except for the most egregious failures. Mimsy requested their signature cocktail, a Hendricks cucumber martini. They were out of Hendricks. The mashed potato side was a bit soupy. Mimsy's summer salad with chicken was drowning in the dressing. $11 extra for the puny piece of chicken. The wine list was nice. Service was a little choppy. Yeah I know, I sound like some kind of bitch, but when I drop $200 on dinner and it was this mediocre, it does turn me into a raving, Virginia Woolf-like bitch. read more

Unexpectedly good dining off the beaten track. Had an interesting local raspberry vinegar vodka drink that when paired w fish tacos, crab cakes and salmon carbonara was off the charts. The fish tacos were so fresh I had seagulls at the window watching for leftovers. The burgers that flew past us looked amazing and all with a view of the white mountains. Heard other tables singing praises as well so I know the vodka did not influence my review. The mango sorbet between dishes didn't hurt the experience either. read more

I was really pleased by the variety of local ingredients and internationally preparations. My rack of lamb came with a curry yogurt sauce on the side, a perfect falafel disk to hold the rack bits up, and a delightful fresh chutney balancing vinegar, sweetness, and fresh herbs. Excellent! I know their menu changes with the seasons but I am confident that any selection here would be wonderful! Friendly proprietor, unstressed but attentive wait staff. Great experience. read more

Amazing food in this fine country inn just 10 minutes from crazy North Conway NH. The menu selections are varied and worthy of 5 star restaurant , and the waitstaff is extraordinary in their knowledge of the dishes-Chef Brian, we were told asks waitstaff to taste the dishes. As guests staying at the Inn we ate there 2 nights, but I would definitely make the trip to this restaurant whenever I am in this area. It is THAT good. Menu changes regularly so I won't name dishes, but everything we saw or tasted was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. almost forgot-lovely views of mountains and sunsets-like frosting on the cake! Hope anyone reading this enjoys it as we did, but I hope it doesn't get so discovered that I will never be able to get in next time! This place is a little tricky to find as the signs are not the greatest, but it is worth the effort. It has a small fancy menu where everything sounded amazing. I had the duck and my wife the scallops. Both were very good and the portions were larger than I expected. The inside is very nicely modernized and elegant. We come up to Ossipee every summer and always make sure we have a dinner at Max's. Blueberry mojito and Raspberry shrub were both great drinks; strong enough and not too sweet. This year had the oysters and Maine crabcake for aps and the rack of lamb and duck for entrees. Great flavors and cooked just right. Wish we had room for dessert, as they looked great! The restaurant is cozy with a ski lodge feel with a great view of the mountains. Service is spot on. If you are looking for fried seafood that seems to be abundant in this area, this is not the place to go. But if you want casual elegant dining with a chef's special touch, come to Max's. read more

Always a fan of local food sourcing, the Inn makes a point to feature local farms and quality ingredients. The flavors were excellent and well constructed. After trying this restaurant and giving it a chance several times, I won't be going back. Nice ambiance but for the price the food is mediocre. The food has been consistently served cold and the duck was a small portion with too much fat. Service was slow but I know it is difficult to find help in this area and the waitress (I think her name was Jenny) was terrific. read more

The dinner we chose was rib eye steak. It was so thin it couldn't be cooked any other way than well done. It was fatty and chewy. The service was not any better. It had great food a while back but it has gone downhill. The price is OUTRAGEOUS for poor quality food and service. We live locally and have now moved on to better restaurants. Discovered this amazing inn this week during restaurant week. My husband and I were staying at a different hotel but came over for dinner for our wedding anniversary. The service, hospitality and facility blew me away. Absolute perfection! And the food was the best meal we have had in years. We had to come back for dinner the next night the food was so very, very good. Exquiste food! We can't wait to come back and stay at this inn and enjoy all it has to offer! If you're staying at the Snowvillage Inn or anywhere around the King Pine area, Max's Restaurant is a must! The Inn itself is super cute, and everyone was very friendly. We happened to stay there on "Jimmy Buffett weekend". The food was delicious, I got some oysters and the rack of lamb. So good! Had dinner at Max's Pub Saturday night. Drinks on the porch were nice. I have definitely had better food at places with lower ratings. If I was the Chef I would have been embarrassed if I sent out the Cheese Board that was served to me. The dumplings were very good. The entree's were just OK. The Lima beans and Corn for a vegetable were undercooked and lacked seasoning the twice baked potato looked bland a better job on presentation of the potato would have been nice. Went to Max's Restaurant after getting married in Madison on Saturday. Started out with excellent drinks on the porch and an amazing dinner. We are foodies and I do a lot of cooking. Have only one criticism and that we ordered a 40yr Anniv. Cabernet that we have had before but what we were served was not what it was believed it to be, wrong vintage. Our fault for not carefully checking out the label. Will definitely be going back. read more

It was okay. We are both foodies and dine out several times a week. We hadn't been here in years, and decided to try again when we heard the original owners came back. I had the duck with duck sausage and blueberry zinfandel sauce. The duck did not have a char to the skin which I would have loved and the sausage was more of a pate type of flavor/texture. It left the dish kind of one note and lacking in texture. Really, the meal could have done without it, in favor of a little more duck, with crisp skin and a nice pool of sauce. The sauce was good, but there just wasn't a lot of it. I ordered it with potatoes and it arrived with the starch du jour, not the potato. The potato did come out later when I was nearly done with my meal. (So for service, I'd say just okay). My husband got a sides, fried brussel sprouts and the poutine. The poutine was just okay, have had better at local pubs. A little pricey, so I would have expected just a 'bit more'. Will go back and try it again down the road.
