This is definitely my favorite Irish restaurant/pub and wish it was closer to me. It has a lot of antique signs and objects throughout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We booked the "red room" for a party of 10 patrons which we scheduled far in advance. The people that were in the room before us ran over on their time, so we had to wait about 18 minutes after our reservation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room is pretty cramped due to the length of the table, but it was cute and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The max amount of people is 12 in this room. I had the taste of Ireland, which gives you three dishes in sample size: shepherds pie, beef stew & chicken pot pie. For $19.00 (kind of steep) it was okay. You can tell that there's a lot of pride, and it has a "just like mama used to make" method of cooking. Seems like they take a lot of pride in all of their dishes. It seems that everybody truly enjoyed their dishes, even the ones that had salad. Again, it was really nice that we were able to have our very own room. I would certainly come back and have the corned beef and cabbage meal; that's what my mother had and she said it was great. The only negative thing I would say is that our waitress seemed like she was a bit annoyed, having to wait on a large group and we needed to split our checks. This was my second time at May Kelly's and it will definitely continue to be a regular stop whenever we are in North Conway! It is such a unique little place with great hospitality and delicious food! Lots of comforting dishes that would hit the spot after a busy day exploring, hiking, or skiing. I had the roast turkey dinner. It was fabulous and included an absolutely enormous portion of tender roasted turkey breast. The turkey gravy was light but still loaded with turkey flavor, and the sides were delicious as well. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries. The corned beef was cut in a thick slab and was super tender. The fries were thick cut with skin, and nice and crispy. I was way too full for dessert, but I did have a glass of their homemade Irish cream and it was delightful. Just the right amount of booziness, not too sweet with hints of espresso and chocolate. I highly recommend it! As with many of the restaurants in North Conway they can get very busy. Go at an off time if you don't want to wait, but it's definitely worth the wait! read more

May Kelly's Cottage always struck me as maybe "too close to downtown" and "too big to be good," but stepping inside proved me wrong. The place is packed with authentic Irish décor--antiques, signs, old photos, and plenty of details to look around at and talk about. It feels genuine, lived-in, and full of character. The food held up too. I particularly liked the Irish Sampler, which lets you try the Beef Stew, Shepherd's Pie, and Chicken Pot Pie all in one go. It was hearty, flavorful, and a fun way to get a little bit of everything. Service was great, and there was live music in the bar while we were there, which made it feel even more like a true pub. If you're lucky with your seat, there's also a nice view, and I noticed what looked like outdoor seating for when the weather cooperates. It's the kind of place that wins you over with atmosphere as much as with food and drink. Near the hostess stand, I spotted a framed picture of the rally for Irish independence at Fenway Park in 1919--just one example of the many unique details scattered throughout. Overall, May Kelly's is a fun, authentic Irish pub experience in North Conway. I felt like good hardy food for our 44th anniversary and May Kerly's didn't disappoint! I made reservations, we were immediately seated and within 10 minutes we had our dinner! The turkey was so tender I did not need to use my knife. The stuffing was very well seasoned and when combined with some cranberry sauce, gravy and turkey was a perfect bite! My husband really enjoyed his chicken pot pie, especially the puff pastry crust. The decor was fun and interesting, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We happened to be "in the neighborhood" for this past St. Patrick's Day and wanted to enjoy the vibe at an Irish Pub if we could. Well, we and EVERYONE else with the same idea descended on May Kelly's (one of only two or three Irish Pubs in the area--and likely the most popular). Our strategy was to come in the middle of the day--after the early crowd and before the late crowd--but they were still slammed. We got extremely lucky and were able to be seated at a 2-person high-top in the bar area that someone had just vacated.  Of course, it was a bit chaotic--it was St. Paddy's Day--but the bartenders who cared for the small bar and the high-tops were attentive. After a discussion about what I like, the bartender/server recommended an Irish whisky, and we looked over the large menu. Given the holiday, we went full-on Irish: me a Traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie and her a Corned Beef & Cabbage. Both were very good.  Overall, it was a great experience, and while we may skip trying to do this again on St. Patrick's Day, we will be sure to pop into May Kelly's when we are in the area. read more

Definitely coming back here! This restaurant is pretty cool with all the vintage items inside, and I didn't see all of it. The atmosphere, service and food were excellent. I had the Fish N' Chips, excellent! My husband had the Harvey Gibson Sub, which is their black pastrami sandwich...that was amazing! Their fries are slightly seasoned and crispy - another yum! Coleslaw leans a little on the tart side, again, yum! Portion sizes are pretty good, so we felt you get your money's worth. We sat at a corner table and it was bench style with cushions and pillows, very comfy and cozy, and the view of the mountains outside our window, was gorgeous! Now comes dessert, if you have room....they are not on the menu, you ask your server. That night was only 3 to choose from, due to them getting ready to close for 10 days - this is every year, so everyone can relax and the place is ready for the busy season coming. She had me at Bailey's Cheesecake...the other 2 mentioned was a blurry sound - hahaha - anyways...that cheesecake was awesome!! What an experience May Kelly's really is! Visiting from out of state and needed a place for dinner. Luckily we were told 20 minute wait for our party of 4 but really only waited about 10. We were visiting the area and had dinner at May Kelly's tonight. It is clearly a popular place--the parking lot was packed with cars. The service was friendly and attentive. I found the food portions to be enormous. I was looking for some healthier options on the menu, but everything is extremely heavy. My husband and I shared the French onion soup (very salty). I ordered the grilled Reuben. Each half was so think that I almost had to deconstruct it to eat it. The fries were good. I would have loved an option of a half sandwich with a salad or a vegetable side. My husband ordered the turkey dinner. Again, what came out on his plate was enough to serve 3 or 4 people. The turkey was thick slabs, like 3/4 inch, not slices. At first, he was not sure if it was real or processed turkey. It had mashed potatoes, stuffing, and corn on the cob, so major carb loading. So it's not that the food was not good, just that it seemed like they emphasize quantity over quality. read more

I will Generously give this place three stars. We were seated in a tiny dark room. There was so much stuff around we felt like we were dinning in the middle of a garage sale. Our server did her job but she wasn't very friendly or attentive. My husband had the fish and chips. He pealed the greasy breading off because he said it had a "dirty oil taste" but actually enjoyed the fish after the removal. I had a Ruben that was piled high with corned beef that was cooked nicely but it was lacking sauerkraut and dressing. The kids pizza wasn't very good and went uneaten. What a find on our trip to white mountains. Loved the ambience and all the decor. Ample parking on a lot beside the place however it still can get busy so be aware of the time you are going. You might have to wait for one to leave or check in with the restaurant and they might let you double park. Star was definitely the fish and chips and the shepherds pie. Food came out hot and everything we ordered was tasty. Is it the best? Probably not however the friendly staff and despite having a full house they were attentive. Nothing was missed all the while our server being friendly and and never felt we are waiting to get answers as just a wave of hand had them come over in no time. The place was squeaky clean, including the rest rooms, although they had a lot of unique antiques. Great place for a food stopover. read more
