CATCH AND BAIT ROUTINE. June 21st, 2021 YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, IT'S UP TO YOU. The first thing that should be a RED flag is you will not speak or its near impossible to reach a live customer support agent to assist you. Second "Please dont fall for the " Its better than your belongings going into a landfill jargon! BE Aware every sales item or large group of items starts at $1. Meaning if you have a precious item you don't want to perhaps be sold for a $1. Don't put it in your sale. Especially any Gold coins, jewelry, Sterling Silver or precious stones. If you care to gamble, go to Las Vegas. It is not weighed or tested in any way before the sale. I cant say that quality goods don't sell well because that would not be true. But it is an extreme gamble. You will be expected to set up all of your sale belongings. Once you have done a tremendous amount of work putting like minded items together, Maxsold has the final say on the quantity of items in a lot. So sometimes 6 lamps will be sold at once. Resellers love that. If its a great quality stained glass lamp or high grade item they will probably sell it alone. Yay! If your home is not set up on par with Maxsolds needs to proceed, you will be told a "SET UP FEE" is required at $100 per person, per hour to accomplish this. So if you have not set up properly and gotten everything out of boxes, this can cost you most likely $200-$600 extra depending on how much you have to set up. The in home Maxsold associates receive absolutely none of that additional money they charge. So the incentive to do a great job by the associates is NULLIFIED. The video tutorials that are supposed to guide you are extremely vague. If you decide to continue the process, associates will, measure, numerically tag and inconsistently and sometimes poorly photograph your precious items while at your home. Some associates do a good job while others just dont care. Many times the descriptions are done by an off premise group of people that will write rudimentary descriptions. They are not there to actually see the items live so the photographs provided by the in house team are paramount to the description being well written, but what they write is mostly basic at best. The photos are sometimes blurred, poorly lit and out of orientation. Many times these imperfections are not corrected and obviously hinders the value of the sales items and over all profit of the sale. They make money on both the seller and the buyer. 30% plus fees for commissions from the seller and 15% from the buyer. They dont care how much an item sells for because they are making money either way. They certainly dont care about the finished product of a catalog. They are so ridiculously busy and understaffed they don't care. Sure they want a profitable sale, who wouldnt. Sometimes a catalog does come out great. Many times repeat buyers and resellers are there week after week to scoop up your items and resell them at huge profits. Keep in mind that picking up, storing and moving items is a huge task, time consuming and costly, so buying items cheap for a turnaround is what resellers are looking for. When they are coming back week after week, you know that they are doing well reselling your stuff. Maxsold preys on timing. Many times sellers are pressed for time and find there is no choice. Ebay is tedious and local market place sales like Facebook are difficult. Here is the big kicker. When possibly everything of good value sells, and some will sell well if the market place warrants that, even with the massive saturation that is going on, what does not sell will be up to you to get rid of at a massive expense. Most of the time even if you make a profit selling your items you will have the profits go down the tube by having to get a dumpster or junk haulers to take the unsold merchandise away. Most of the time its furniture. If you are able you can load it and bring it to your town refuse dump for a fee. But most of the time the sellers are elderly people without any way to do that. If your goal is to clear the house for a sale and you dont care about profits and supplemental people having to fulfill your goal, then this could work for you. From a buyers standpoint many times you are purchasing items that are broken and you cant get a refund as seen in many, many reviews here. They get around that by saying "untested" in the descriptions. Now you're stuck with a paper weight. Oh, by the way any damage that happens to your home during removal of items is on your homeowners insurance policy. They cover NOTHING. I could literally go on for pages. Please consider other alternatives first. I will never say that the Maxsold process will not work. But you need to have zero expectations. I won an item and was charged at once. After that they have changed the pick-up location to 25 miles away. Maxsold.com sent me 2 emails reminding about pick-up and my responsibility for abandoning the lot. When I arrived to the pick-up location along with a hired truck I learned from Maxsold.com' subcontractors that my item is MIA and its owner decided to keep it. I wasted the day and $40 for a truck deposit. Maxsold.com has not refunded nor notified me until I contacted them. It took almost a week to reply: they offered me a refund and a worthless $20 gift card. They clearly do not respect own customers: 3 days between the auction's end and pick-up no one even raise a finger to warn me. read more

This whole organization is a joke! They hire the most unprofessional people to host their auctions. They're rude, unappreciative and refuse to even help during pickups! They will break items and pass them off to you , they'll let other bidders take your winnings , they shout out orders and do a terrible job of handling stress during pickup days. If you call on management or customer service they make excuses, defend their people without investigation and always blame the customer. Buyers beware! Without communicating with your staff first, they called up and rudely spoke to my friend who was in need of your services and in a tough spot because of recent life circumstances and you ordered your staff to leave (when your staff stated to him they could do the job with no issues and didnt understand what the big deal was). He was willing to pay extra fees required but your representative was entirely too rude. My friend is a decorated and disabled Vietnam vet and your companies rude and disgraceful treatment of him will be made widely known and by many. Maxsold is an epic failure. I won a desirable antique washing machine (I'm a collector). I arranged transportation, got a strong helper, and all the gear to remove the washer. I was on cloud 9 because I have been looking for this particular antique washer for years. Upon arriving, we discovered the wall-mounted shutoff valve was not functional (happens all the time). The site manager would not allow us to shut off the water in the basement for 1 minute to place brass caps on the spigots (you know, the kind that fit on the end of a hose). We were told to leave the washer in place. Seriously!? I was offered a refund... it's like winning the lottery, then being told, you can have the price of your winning ticket back. Thus far customer service (call center from who knows where) is a joke, telling me what I want to hear with no follow-through (promises of contacting the seller on my behalf). So, I won/bought an item, Maxsold refused delivery/access, which I consider a breach of contract. read more

hi folks, I'm a Toronto buyer and seller. I've been buying since they were called 'you bid local'. I was usually happy with purchases then. Now as they've become Maxsold, it has become a 'max ripoff'. As a seller-I've experienced numerous disappointments- I'll just speak to one in particular- the issues of refunds. Unfortunately my experience with maxsold has been significantly different than what others have described. I have found that the individuals running the auction have at times, randomly pulled items from the auction a mere few hours before it closes. Why? Likely because they discover that the item is worth more than what it will be auctioned for or simply because they themselves want to keep the item. It goes without saying that this is a highly unethical way to run a business/estate sale. How can we, as buyers, plan accordingly for an auction if we are subject to the whims of the individuals running the auction? When speaking to the customer service representative, she informed me that this is in fact a "breach of their contract," but failed to go into the details of what exactly that meant. Instead of attempting to reach out to the specific individuals running that auction, I was merely told "sorry." I would implore anyone reading this review to look elsewhere when evaluating an auction house to do business with. There are lots of very well managed companies out there that wouldn't think of doing such a thing. Do items get accidentally broken and need to be pulled from the auction? Absolutely. But when it is multiple lots of similar items getting pulled at once it raises concerns about the ethics of the people running the auction/estate sale. Scam. I won an auction but there was no supervision and staff allowed someone else to take it. Large China lot so was not qickly "swiped". They also offered me a lot that was not mine. Bottom-feeding scavengers.... STAY AWAY. Super high costs plus a percentage of total sales. They do NOTHING good for the seller... They advertised a "lot" of musical instruments. However, the guitar they pictured was a small, child's guitar. The horn shown in the picture didn't work. It's not worth it. You should be able to look at it in person before you bid. Another time, they showed individual pictures of a "lot" of four sets of shelves. When I went to pick them up, they were actually stacked on top of each other and the metal legs dug grooves into the bottom sets of shelves. Very deceptive advertising. read more

So I've only used once as a buyer. Seemed like a great deal at the time. Bid, won went to pick up. The items was 20+ years old not in correct working condition. Spend more to get fixed than I paid in the first place. Sellers really don't have to put anything other than a couple photos that you can't really see and no descriptions or details. Granted had no problem with the website or the pickup. Got technically what I bid on...just had no real good clear understanding what was bidding other than 2 lots of scuba gear per the online description. read more

Bought a"lot" of garden items, which included a milkcan with lid, which was the only item I wanted, and the rest was bonus. This was a "no preview" auction, but the pictures looked great. Much to my disappointment, the milkcan had no bottom due to rust, and the side was ready to crumple with rust. The accompanying planters that were also all rotted and bottomless. Maxsold sold us garbage. They made us take everything, so we could dump it in our own garbage can. Had it been usable items, the price was very good. I'm out 15$ and very sad to be taken advantage of. Will only bid on items that can be previewed. read more

I was a seller and although I got rid of everything it is not the "turnkey" operation they promote it to be and the commission structure is poor. Items to be sold are grouped in "lots" that based on the "experience" of the auction set-up team are designed to generate a minimum bid of at least $30. If a "lot" doesn't sell for at least $30...the commission paid to MaxSold is a flat $10. A full 25% of the lots in my moving sale auction sold for $10 or less...generating no profit for me and in many cases, I had to pay for the privilege of someone coming to my house and carrying the items out the door (a lot that sells for $1 costs the seller $9 to get rid of). One-third of the lots generated less than $5 worth of profit each. After the set-up phase the seller has an opportunity to review the draft of the auction site before it goes live. The number of missing photos, inadequate descriptions and poor sentence structure/punctuation resulted in me spending several hours editing the auction site so that it looked professional. I was not expecting to have to spend that much time doing this. Yes...in the end I got rid of everything within the limited deadline I had to work with. And in my specific situation...other than handling the entire set up, pricing, advertising, and money collection myself...I was not aware of any other options than MaxSold. However, I encourage others to explore other options before contracting with MaxSold. If there is an option I couldn't find for my specific situation...hopefully there will be for you. read more

I purchased few items from the auction so far for my personal use. I had good experiences so far, except one. The pictures provided during the bid included the metal wall hanging. It was very clear in the picture, but when I picked up stuff, it was not there. I came home and look at the picture again, it was clearly included in the bid. I love Maxsold. As a buyer, I have gotten some great deals on items I needed in the past couple of years. It's an online auction/estate sale so if you want to see the item, there are pictures and description, but if you want to touch the merchandise, they usually have a preview night at the beginning of the sale. I highly recommend going to the preview to get a better idea of the higher quality items. Then if you win the item, you go pick it up on the assigned day. Good luck and happy bidding! read more

Made over a $1000 in purchases, rented a U-Haul to pick up items as well as hired some help for loading...... only to be notified by Max Sold that the seller backed out of the sale. My credit card had been charged. Everything was done.....but all for nothing. Might be best not to do business if the contracts used by MaxSold are so easily broken. I had never used MaxSold before so I decided to give it a try. I gave it a test run with some smaller bids on an estate auction in Big Canoe. I won a bid on three pieces of artwork. I made the drive to Big Canoe( 45 minutes from home) and followed the directions which were perfect. I arrived at the home and was greeted at the front door. They took my information and my invoice and took me directly to my purchase. The whole process took less than 10 minutes and the home. I was pleasantly pleased with my purchase and the interaction with the MaxSold staff was wonderful. I am already bidding on my next purchases. Great Job! read more

Update 10/19 So I hate to say it but this STILL isn't resolved. Maxsold sent me a deposit in the amount of time they said but alas IT WAS ONLY FOR HALF OF WHAT THEY OWE ME ahhh! I love browsing online auctions through maxsold and I'm found some amazing deals! Bid online without having to spend hours trying to go to auctions only to be disappointed. Quality pictures on a well set up website and you can bid from the comfort of your home. If you win you simply pick up the item on the date and time required. You arrive at the home or site of the items being sold and it's a pretty easy hand off. This is an amazing thing I stumbled across moving to Atlanta and needing to decorate my new place. NEVER AGAIN. Despite my age and health issues, on hindsight, it would have been more profitable to be robbed of the house contents and file an insurance claim, than to sell through MaxSold. The system itself is flawed. The entire contents of house was sold and I received $105.18 after fees. I AM sure MaxSold is pleased as were the customers. I have used this company a couple times as a buyer. When they say DIY they mean it. NO hi how are you? NO thank you have a nice day. NO holding the door open unless you ask. Even old people are treated with zero respect. Get you stuff and get out. I dropped something I was picking up and was immediately accused of damaging the house. Even the client having the auction said who cares about the house don't damage that item. Staff fail to understand the items being sold have sentimental value to the family. For all that they charged me $90 buyers commission. Not a good experience as a buyer. I talked with the elderly person having the sale outside and the Lady was not happy with what their family heirlooms sold for. This is a get rid of it at any cost type service. Sad. From the perspective of a high-end antique and vintage dealer who successfully operated both a brick-and-mortar and online store, each for several years, the sell prices on MAXSold are beyond ridiculous. We tried the auction platform listing 92 items. A couple of very high-end antique pieces and MCM furniture pieces. For 1800s Empire Period Sevres amphorae, a pair of urns, we got $111 BEFORE Max's 30% cut and for MCM Eames-style loungers we got just under $50 for the pair. We would not use this as a selling platform again and would caution those thinking to sell on MaxSold that it is best for clearing out a home or a garage sale type of offering of lower-end items or items that have little to no value to the seller. read more

Filled out a form two days ago to get reinstated as I was interested in rebidding on some items. Havent heard a word about the problem fro MaxSold. Very poor customer service. read more

Great for buyers, not so much for sellers. In all fairness, as a seller, I did get rid of most everything, and that is a huge plus. The workers who came to the house were nice and professional and worked hard. The managers behind the scene, not so much. The idea of putting items in lots is good as some not so desirable items end up going where otherwise the seller would be stuck with them. However, there was a lot of cherry picking meaning when no one was looking the buyers took what they wanted from the lot that they won and then left, leaving stuff for the seller to clean up. Also, there is absolutely no incentive for someone who wins a bid to actually show up. They say that they will be banned from future auctions, but the workers say that never happens. In my case, a few lots had a winning bid of $1.00 or $2.00 yet the buyers no showed and I was stuck to deal with it. I even told the workers that I would be happy to coordinate an alternate day for pick up but never heard another word. One of the items was HUGE and a major inconvenience to deal with. It should have then been offered to the runner up bid but that didn't happen either. They need to come up with a policy that if a winning bidder fails to pick up their purchase, then a penalty of say $100.00 is automatically charged to their credit card. There was one item where the box was soiled on the bottom. The seller showed up but did not want it as there was no indication on the listing of this. The workers refunded the buyer and assured me that I would be be credited with the money since it was not my fault that there was no mention of the soiling on the listing. One of the workers then took the item without my approval since I would be credited with it. I did NOT receive credit for this item (and it was one of the higher priced selling lots) even after back and forth messages with management. "Patti" did not want to seem to listen to what happened. It was like a game. So, am I glad the stuff is gone? Yes. Would I use Maxsold again, No. If you do decide to use them as a seller, be prepared to micromanage. read more

I contracted with MaxSold to sell my household items - everything from glassware to my Thomasville Cherry Wood Queen Anne Dining Room set, Bedroom Set and living room tables. I was assured that while the bidding starts at a $1 - you cannot set a minimum bid or minimum increment - the final hours of the bidding the bidding prices go up. Well, my six dining room chairs went for $1; my China Cabinet went for $1, the china buffet carnet - $1 and my bedroom set - $5. Yes- my gross sales amounted to $360! $360 for about $10,000 of furniture. Two rubbermaid wrapping containers brought as much as my living room, dining and bedroom set. No wonder all the rave reviews are for buyers, not the sellers. Their fees are .30% of goods plus $700 processing fee. Yes, you could end up owing MaxSold for conducting an auction which is paramount to robbery. I cannot begin to express my anger and frustration and this process. DO NOT USE THIS FIRM! read more

I stumbled on Maxsold through some estate emails and saw something I was interested in. I registered with some reluctance, but went ahead anyway. I ended up winning one of the two auctions I bid on. While they have some of the better listings in the area, they are a horrible company to deal with. We've had several instances where employees have stolen items from us prior to pick up, we believe that some of the employees "under list" items and have their friends bid on them. MaxSold is a ripoff. We chose MaxSold for what we thought would a fast and easy process. We were relocating and downsizing from Los Angeles to Ohio. While the staff was friendly and did a good job cataloging, the rest of the process was a disaster!! Beware they cost way too much - $700 initial charge and 30% of the profit. Beware there are no minimum bids on the lots, so really good stuff can sell for just $1. Beware that the buyers all collude in this process. MaxSold promises a competitive bidding process, but when buyers collude there really is no true competition. Beware that the managers have extremely poor oversight on the day of pickup. They are supposed to supervise each buyer in and out of your house, but at one point there were over 10 strangers in our house picking up furniture and they were not being properly supervised. I had to walk around to make sure no one was taking anything from the bedrooms or other rooms. The buyers were careless with removing the items and scratched and dented walls when they were taking the furniture. We sold nearly half of our belongings which were in very good condition, with some high end fitness equipment and bedroom sets, and we netted just $1,700. Absolutely pathetic!!!!!!! read more
