I used to leave amazing reviews. Until I was scammed and Max Sold did not stand behind their sale. I was sold a tightly tied plastic bag of garbage thinking it was a pair of boots I liked. I opened the bag and the first thing I pulled out was a piece of a shoe with dirt and disintegrating plastic falling off. The other shoe, the sole was holding on at the toe. The boots I was so excited about? The designer, high end boots? Plastic. Probably from Arsene. Yes, we are supposed to check our purchase but I was rushed out and away and told to look when I got home. Plus, they had the plastic tied so tight I needed scissors to open it. I contacted Max Sold...they offered me $25. I spent $158. Think I will go back to the seller. Maybe when more folks show up on doorsteps, scams will not happen as often. I am disgusted and disappointed. 25+ years shopping with Max Sold and dozens of great reviews....here is $25. Go away now. I am beyond upset. You will see my reviews everywhere until this is settled. SELLERS BEWARE. YOU MAY OWE THEM MONEY IF YOUR ITEMS DON'T SELL MORE THAN $300. If you post items and the total amount of the value sold is less than $300, you will owe the difference to them. Customer service is very ineffective. Some buyers may not even show up and you get to deal with the unsold items and may owe them money, even when you are the one managing the auction. Terrible company, terrible customer service, terrible support. If you are the customer, you are not protected against losing your money and auction wins. Sellers are supposed to stay open for an hour after their end time. 52 Scarsdale did not do that. They opened for an hour and closed exact at the hour mark. When I sold with Maxsold, I was supposed to stay open and I was there for the hour afterwards. Maxsold nor the company at 52 Scarsdale in Toronto followed the rule of staying open and now 3 people drive for hours due to highway traffic and they too were "too bad, so sad!" After submitting a bid and winning a curtain and rod, for what we believed to be a very good value, we then drove a considerable distance to the pickup location only to be told that the item was given away to someone else and SORRY but we will give you a full refund. We objected and argued what would happen if we had bid $100 for a Mercedes and won only to find out that it was given to someone else? Do you believe a full refund of $100 is fair compensation?? We don't think so. So, just because you "bid and win" does not mean there is any guarantee of receiving your item, and if you don't get your item MaxSold will only provide you a refund of the price you bid and not provide an equivalent of the product you won, which is what they should legally be required to do. Ive purchased many things from this auction site over the years but no more. In the last year I've bought 3 things that either didn't work or were damaged. If it says "untested" that's pretty much code for it doesn't work. A chainsaw was seized, it takes 5 seconds to give a pull and know that. Today I arrived with my MAXSOLD buyers invoice at 296 Mill Rd. Etobicoke (Auction #61993) to pickup lot #346 which I purchased for $71.47 and was informed by the MAXSOLD staff handing the pickup that the big, heavy weight 3 panel wrought iron & fabric room divider I purchased at this auction was removed from the auction premises by another MAXSOLD buyer who did not have this particular item listed on their MAXSOLD buyers invoice. The buyer who was able to just stroll out of there with my purchase bought and picked up lamps they did purchase ALONG with the 3 panel wrought iron room divider that I purchased. When I voice my outrage over the situation to the MAXSOLD staff present at this auction address I was told I would not be getting the item I purchased because someone else who had not purchase it...had already carried it away!! The only option I was given to resolve the situation was a refund for $55.00 and not the $71.47 amt that MAXSOLD billed my credit card. AND my refund option expires in 48 hours The older female MAXSOLD employee who personally handled the pickup for the buyer who purchased lamps AND stole my room divider remembered them well. The MAXSOLD staff at the pickup site today stated to me that they knew the identity of this individual who stole my purchase and also what items (lamp) they had purchased from the auction but were unable to get my merchandise back from this unscrupulous thieving individual. So Not only was buyer who did not purchase the 3 panel wrought iron room divider but allowed to walk away with it. I was basically told we will refund your purchase price...Now move along and get out of our face! This refund solution offered to me today by MAXSOLD expires in 48 hours! purchased two items on an auction listed by maxsold. Received my reminder on the morning of pick up. Drove 2 plus hours to the pick up site. Person there told me that the seller decided not to honour their commitment. She told me that she had informed Maxsold three hours prior to my arrival. No messages sent from Maxsold to let me know the auction had been 'cancelled'. A notice to all buyers should have been sent out the minute they received notice of cancellation. their idea of compensation is a $20 gift card. i was 4 hours of my day...plus over $50 in gas. read more

As a seller this is the worst platform to sell your valuables. I watched some videos and they seemed promising, but that wasnt my experience. I had 11 lots listed and there were some valuable pieces in my offerings. I had 2 no bids and 9 lots with bids. I was offering antique items m, vintage and MCM. Most of my items were furnishings. The bids were ridiculous. I received a $1 bid for 2 dining room chairs. That was a punch to the gut. My most valuable item which valued at between $500-1000 went for $155. All totaled $325. I I received $25 after paying MaxSold their cut. This was the most gut-wrenching experience. It would have been cheaper and less stressful and heartbreaking to give these items away for free. MaxSold maybe a great place for buyers to steal your stuff but not a place to sell your goods. read more

Worst online system I've ever experienced--it's constantly crashing and wildly inefficient and glitchy. Trust me: never, ever bid on auctions in apartments or storage facilities. I saw that there was another review on this company and I had to share my experiences. First, I have been buying with them for a couple of years now and have had several amazing encounters with the staff. The onsite staff have been friendly and informative. Twice I have had items that were not as presented and in both cases the company acted immediately. One happened on site and the other after I arrived home. In the latter instance, the item pieces did not match up rendering the item useless - within 24 hours, I was informed I would be receiving a full refund. I have also called them directly and received amazing online support. Staff were courteous, respectful and apologetic for something they had no control over. BUYER beware This online auction site has sales that are run by either a family or experienced sales agents. They have your money and item which you then go and collect. This is a problem, there is no incentive for decent customer service. Make sure you don't assume anything about your item. If the dimensions are not listed it could be huge and not fit in your car. If the location of the item is not listed, it could be anywhere in the house. You may have to negotiate stairs that you didn't anticipate. Also note the street the sale is on for parking. I had a terrible experience at a pickup run by estate agent Timothy Loughmiller(see his yelp reviews, I'm not alone). Items were missing from my lot and therefore I became a problem customer. Their behaviour was unprofessional, unpredictable and escalated quickly. I would avoid his sales but If you attend one, video or record your interaction for your safety. I've been to pickups that were run by the family that were fantastic. Friendly, courteous and organized. Items exactly as described. I'd say dealing with this company is a crapshoot. You may have an awesome experience and get great stuff at a great price or a disaster that leaves you upset for days. read more

Buyers, be aware of how they are making money. I bought curtains that were described by seller as being in "great condition", spent $650. When I came to pick them up, curtains were presented to me packed in the plastic bag. Maxsold did not allow going insight the house, so I could not inspect the items. Outside was raining weather, so I took my first look at them just at home and found out that they have very obvious holes in the middle. Who will hand such curtains? Nobody. Contacted max sold right away. As a result they authorized the refund on $150 and pocketed $500. Check and re-check your items before you leave. read more

Maxsold allows sellers to post their items with ANY description they want...and when I bought 3 computers NOT listed "untested", but "great as a spare or for a student", I complaiuned..and got a full refund...but was blacklisted for "threatening to call my credit card company". Pre-review note: I am experienced buyer at online auctions and sales as I do this full time and have bid with every company in our region. I can not begin to tell you how disappointed I am with this company right now. I was bidding on their auction (my 4th run-in with this website) in the DC metro area. Since there is no separate satellite office yelp page, the review will have to go here. There were about 130 items in the auction that started to close at 8:15. It is now 8:30 as I write this and the entire catalog is already sold. I feel so bad for the consignor because they trusted their AWESOME items to this business, and maxsold failed them miserably. I would have bid so much more than I did, and on about 3x the amount of items in the sale. The way the software closes out the items doesn't give the buyer nearly enough time to bid on the entire auction, or enter a higher bid if they get outbid in the last 2 minutes and decide to bid higher. This is not a true auction if 3 items end at the exact same time. They do not do right by their consignor, who is the main party they work for and hold indemnity to (not the buyer). The "live view" page should really be eliminated as the refresh times when you cycle through photos do not allow you to bid on other items closing, literally a half-second behind the item your looking at. The last thing I'll say is that I'm pretty sure theres some shady practices going on by the staff. To allow a $150 artwork to be listed at the End of the photo series with a title of "various art" means your hiding a valuable item with a non valuable item therefore misrepresenting the true nature and value of a lot by hiding key details of an item, or not even mentioning things like a signature at all. I understand the company cannot view every photo of every single lot they sell, but they should hire people who Want to make money for their consignor whom they work for, not the dealers (me) who bottom feed for inventory at places like this. read more

Last two auctions the items where not as described, one said blue leather jacket, it was purple, another was six cups and saucers, but the cups turned out to be demitasse, very small like expresso cups and not what picture showed. Beware of self run auctions there are no Maxsold employees there so what do you do when the item it not what you bid on? Also, they give you only two days to put in a complaint, I was in bed for over two weeks with lung infection, wrote to them and was told too bad, even though they allowed false advertising of items. I have used them for several years and have had a few issues and they have resolved them, but not so now. I have had staff be very rude and some homes are disgustingly filthy. I've also been a Seller and sold my car on MaxSold with a great result. Buyer beware! The items are sold as is. So if they're not functional, that's on you the buyer, not the seller. Sometimes, depending on the lot, it is easy to tell if something is broken or not, other times, as in elctronics, it isn't so easy to tell. Case in point: I purchased a hifi audio lot consisting of a A/V amplifier, and 4 speakers. The lot was described as UNTESTED, and as per COVID-19 safety rules, the lot is listed with photographs and you are given a 5 minute slot to pickup your items. All looked in good physical shape when I picked up the items, but when I tested it all back at home, the amplifier, and the sub-woofer were both non-functional. I complained and asked for a partial refund, but was denied, and was given NO compensation. This was their response: "We are not able to authenticate or check lots unless it is explicitly stated as such in the catalog. Because our business is setup this way to ensure we sell and clear all items within the time constraints, everything is 'as-is-where-is' and unfortunately this lot was marked as untested, so we could not guarantee a working condition. When you bid, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions that items are sold "as-is-where-is" and that all lots must be verified on site prior to departing. By departing from the pickup location, you are agreeing that you have the correct items and are satisfied with them. At this time, we are unable to approve a refund." read more

Totally disorganized pick up - especially bad are the ones that are self-run with no preview. So many items I have picked up are NOT as described. I've bought dresses that were in "excellent condition" and were torn,. items missing pieces, a headboard that was part of the wall (it wasn't coming out) etc. Staff are rude, and if you complain they refuse to refund and block you from future purchases. DO NOT BID if it is not a SELLER MANAGED auction. Employees of Maxsold do not care! They also bid on the items they are auctioning so do the math! When I picked up the items I have won at an auction to my surprise they were not as pictured and described online. The dressers I picked up one of them has a very big hole in the back. Lots of BIG not minimal scratches. (why would I bid on an Ikea dresser such as this condition when I can buy on Kijiji in good condition at least for the same cost) and 2 of the melamine dressers both of them were stripped and full of holes there is no way to tell by just merely looking at the pictures posted and the description. Very shady! I am so mad because if I knew that was the case, I would not even dare to bid on any just becoz the weight of strength we had to exert on bringing all these dressers from the basement of the house to our truck was so over the top! It was not worth it!!! The tables I saw on pic was so much different in person they do not give a detailed description when in fact in this kind of bidding where you cannot preview the items -- Detailed description is important! The prints I got were full of smears on them and not cool yo! There was a van that blocked the whole driveway and when I found out it was the van of an employee of Maxsold I confronted her she only said she needed to do that just because she was also picking up some items and that her back was painful. Bitch! Our back were also painful it was snowing and you guys did not shovel the path and also did not spread salt on the stairs so it was fucking slippery! When I confronted them about the items with holes she just told me " Oh , I don't know about that" Upon arriving home, I sent an email to Maxsold asking for a refund. I also asked them to pick u the items if they want as I strongly believe they were not worth my money. I wasted my energy and gas to go to the suburbs. I am not being disrespectful with the owners of the items as they are not responsible. They obviously just wants to get rid of the items they don't want.It was Maxsold employees who were supposed to be transparent and took care of the description of the items. I have been buying from MaxSold for over 2 years now and have nothing bad to say about the company. The listings are always top notch and I am able to view the auction items clearly. Upon arriving for a pickup the team is friendly and greet you with a smile. I have not waited in line for any length of time and have been escorted into the home by a staff member each and everytime. My items are as described and if there is a discrepancy it is handled on the spot. I would recommend MaxSold to anyone looking for a great bargain. I have bid on many things throughout the years at YOUBIDLOCAL. I have actually purchased a handful of items...always had great experiences except today at the Bobcaygeon Pick Up. There was a woman "helper" (and I use that term very loosely) who complained all the time I was there...which was a very long time. I actually started to think that she was being paid to complain about the buyers in front of the other buyers. She actually told me that I shouldn't have purchased my item if I had no one to help me. May be she should have told that to the family that I bought the item from. I believe my bids helped to triple the value of that item! What a disaster! I have bought from Maxsold several times and I am finished! There listings will claim it's one thing and it's something entirely different when you go to pick it up (esp when there is no preview) So after getting pressboard for antique wood items, and homesense labels on antique glass I am DONE. Not to mention the two hour time limit for pick up leads to chaotic parking outside the house, so you can't get close which is important when you are buying a large item like a fridge. We had to to walk a huge table 2 1/2 blocks to the truck. And the staff are completely unhelpful. When you ask "where is item #42?" they haven't got a clue!!!!!!! They wander around the house looking for your item, admist a bunch of other people looking for their item. And because there is no staff control, items that you purchase "disappear" through the light fingers of other auction winners, and the staff just shrug their shoulders and no refunds are available. I hear they are franchising these companies off now from the staff of this week's auction, so the control will be even worse. MUCH BETTER ON-LINE AUCTION COMPANIES OUT THERE! read more
