I wish there was a way on Yelp to leave 0 stars, as Hills doesn't deserve even 1…read more I called Hills to schedule a diesel delivery as I was coming back from Oxnard and needed about 450 gal of diesel. I spoke with Hills and gave them my credit card info when I was about 20-30 min out and told them that I would be at my slip within an hour or so. When I pulled into my slip, there was something hanging off the pilings and the supports for my outriggers both got caught and snapped, causing my riggers to drop down. I immediately ran out to get replacement supports to get my riggers back up, and while I was at West Marine (10 min away), I got a call from the guy who drives the fuel barge. He immediately started in on me with what I can only describe as a tirade. He started swearing at me and yelling, saying that I wasted his whole day since my outriggers were hanging down, and he couldn't tie up to fuel my boat. I tried to call him down a bit, which was tough as I was already stressed trying to get the riggers fixed, and explained that I would be back in about 15 min with the parts to get the riggers back up and out of the way. That wasn't good enough. He continued on about how I ruined his whole afternoon because he had to come all the way out to the marina and couldn't tie up due to my damaged outriggers. Right. I wasted his whole day since it's such a long ride from Balboa to the Dunes, and he couldn't wait 15-20 min for me to get back with the parts to repair the riggers. After a solid 5-10 min of being berated by this a-hole, I had enough, and proceeded to give it right back to him. Boaters usually have compassion for other boaters who are in a bind, but clearly this guy was too concerned with waiting a few minutes for me to get back and about getting back to his beer to have any compassion or understanding. He took a situation that was already stressful for me and just compounded it by yelling at me as though I did something to him on purpose. I will never get fuel from Hills again, as waiting 15-20 min so they could sell me 450 gal of diesel obviously was too much for them to handle. Moreover, Friday was extremely quiet in the harbor and I can't imagine they were running all over the place delivering large quantities of fuel to other boats. Instead of being patient and helpful, the guy was simply too self absorbed and too self important to take a minute and listen to the customer. I saved a voicemail from the guy and I wish there was a way for me to post it so the rest of you could hear what a jerk he is. I'll spend my $2,000 on fuel at Island Marine Fuel on Balboa where they are kind, friendly and treat customers with the same respect that they too deserve. Don't buy fuel from Hills. They don't deserve our business.
