Mays Funeral Home is one of the WORST around and I would HIGHLY suggest that you find someplace else to handle your loved one. My mother died at my home unexpectedly while I was traveling on business and unfortunately Mays picked up her body from my house the evening that it happened. I immediately called them at 9 am the next morning because I wanted to see her, (she died in my house while I was not there), and they were EXTREMELY rude and told me that it would be at least 2 days before I could see her because 'they had funerals' the next 2 days. They also referred to her as 'a case'....not your loved one, or even saying 'her body'. I was COMPLETELY taken aback that a funeral home that has multiple locations was not able to accommodate a quick viewing for me and my family members! ADND the person that I spoke to was EXTREMELY RUDE AND talked to me like I was from around the way....using ghetto slang! I was completely enraged and told them to NOT TOUCH my mom....I would have another funeral home come and get her immediately and have her taken to a funeral home that could accomodate us. Mays then told me that it would be a $500 charge for her overnight stay at their funeral home....$500 for her being with them for less than 24 hours...just no empathy or compassion at all! My neighbor said that Mays reputation is so bad that she would rather be left on the side of the road than to have them handle her burial.....and I TOTALLY AGREE! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND MAYS....But I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND GIVNISH FUNERAL HOME on Route 130! A TOTALLY different experience! They know how to handle people during a time of grief! I am writing a review because my mother would have wanted me to!!! :-) I wish dead people could see themselves at funerals because she would have raved for sure!! I did not read any reviews when I chose May Funeral Home. I was born and raised in Willingboro, and when my mother was in Hospice, it was the first place her and I thought of. I am sorry to read that so many had a not so great experience however, I have never been more impressed! Initially, Alex met me at the hospice center in about an hour as he said he would, (prob about 5am!) and walked me and my cousin through the entire process before collecting my mother. He said over the phone before he got there that he was going to "..help me land this plane" and he did just that!! I felt comfortable and confident that all would be well. My mother passed away exactly 3 weeks before the funeral, and she looked absolutely AMAZING!!! Her skin, was flawless! I don't believe any make up was applied to her skin, but she did have a natural colored lipstick and mascara as I requested. She looked to be sleeping and looked truly like herself. She was not swollen, discolored or anything at all, just flawless!! Almost hard to believe she was not alive, that's how good she looked!! My mother had naturally curly hair. Instead of applying curl products to it and combing it through to define the curl pattern as suggested, they took a small curling iron to it instead and had several curls going straight back and picked out lightly into style. Talk about IMPRESSED!! The outfit that I picked out for her made her look even more beautiful! They kept a bracelet on that she had before she passed and it worked beautifully!! Everyone has been calling me since the service to say what a wonderful job that was done with her. We have all been to our share of funerals and some people have been unrecognizable, but friends and fam were truly impressed as well. The entire staff was great from start to finish and I never felt left in the dark at any time. The custom guest book with her picture on the front was included. The book also has areas to add place of birth, and even a family tree. Also included was a beautiful plaque with her picture on it and a candle light that I did not expect! As a caregiver of my mother for over 6 years, and having lost her too young, in my opinion (66), I really needed this to be a great experience, and it was!! I URGE ANYONE TO NOT UTILIZE MAY FUNERAL HOME! They are the ABSOLUTE WORSE!! I lost a very close friend of mine and since I live out of town and couldn't be in attendance I sent flowers to the family. The flowers were entrusted to May Funeral Home during transition from the service to the burial ground and the limo driver "left the flowers in the trunk of the limo." Consequently, the family never received the flowers. After a week of simply trying to speak to Darien about this and coldly being tossed from the Wilingboro office to the Camden location I was coldly told that they don't reimburse for flowers! There was no apology, no compassion and NO RESOLUTION! People as unprofessional as this should not be in business!!! And this was just one of many other failures on their part. We enjoyed the singing from the gentlemen at the service. A special thanks to funeral director Stephen May, for his gentle words of comfort & professionalism. Chris from May Funeral Home in Willingboro is the most unprofessional, unkind, disrespectful, rude & nastiest female worker I've ever encountered! She failed. She failed by not informing me that my husband's body was at office, she failed by not informing me his Certificate of Death was available, she was extremely unpleasant during every interaction; over the phone & in person. When my daughter & I viewed my husband's body privately & I was in shock because my husband looked 200 pounds heavier & I was crying hysterically, she came into the viewing area & stared at me with daggers in her eyes, smoke coming out of her ears, nose & mouth simultaneously AS IF I did something wrong! #nocompassion# Chris Did Not inform me of the various options available for my husband's obituary for the Burlington County Times, she kept discouraging me against a "Long " obituary; she emphasized how " expensive" it was! Money was NEVER an issue regarding any of my husband's funeral expense! The day my husband's ashes were delivered to the funeral home, Chris NEVER called me, Again! I had to call her! Chris NEVER informed me about a tribute page online for my dear departed/deceased husband so family & friends could leave a tribute/condolence! Chris was ANGRY when I went in to select a different urn; she portrayed an extremely bothered, uptight & hostile individual that very day. She was uncooperative as I had my hands full & had to fumble with the catalog of urns that were available! She never once showed me or my family an ounce of respect, compassion, sympathy or concern! Chris was beyond disgusted after I told her, for a FOURTH time that my husband's obituary STILL had mistakes/typos in it. She wrote Trish's name & number down for me to call Trish in the Camden office because apparently she did not want to call Trish & inform Trish of the errors/typos. The day I went in to May Funeral Home in Willingboro to pick up my husband's belongings, Chris says to me with a hostile tone, "most families do not want the belongings/clothing back from the deceased!!!!! Why wouldn't I want my husband's $120 Aldo's shoes that I bought him for Christmas ?!!! Oh & guess what was missing when the young man gave me my husband's belongings? The two rosaries that I placed in his hand while he was in the casket!!! Only one was returned! #dishonesty/thievery# @ May Funeral Home!!!! The day that the urn I ordered came in, Chris did not call me, AGAIN! I had to call her! When I went into the office to pick up the urn, Chris was the usual miserable, unsympathetic creature as all previous interactions. I had informed Chris that my husband's Certificate of Death had the incorrect place of birth on it, she was " disgusted" when I told her that too!!! She angrily snatched a pen & told me to write down his correct place of birth & said I will have to pay extra for the corrected Certificates of Death, I had ordered 25 & the bill was paid in full the day before the service by my mother in law! I requested a bag to put my husband's urn in,{keeping in mind that the first original urn provided by May Funeral Home was in a heavy duty clear two handle bag}, Chris said. " I DO NOT HAVE ANY BAGS!" with daggers in her eyes AS IF I had said or did something offensive! I noticed urns at her feet behind the counter, I asked for one of those bags, she said with hostility in her voice, " They belong to other people," Well, what happened to my bag from my husband's original urn Chris? { I did not say that to her because I felt so so so disrespected, offended & felt like I had just been reprimanded!!!!} Keeping in mind that I have an ileostomy pouch, pain in my right hip that day, there is snow & ice outside & not to mention I was wearing boots with a high heel! THAT WAS IT!!!! I called Mrs. May, the owner's wife & shared my dilemma with her. SHE TOO WAS BORDERLINE RUDE. She " apologized" for the mistreatment I received from Chris & informed me that there were several complaints about Chris. She reassured me that she would discuss my complaint with Chris immediately. After all of the disgusting mistreatment that I received from this nasty, miserable, obviously prejudiced woman; I WILL NEVER EVER DO ANY BUSINESS WITH MAY FUNERAL HOME. I highly recommend that anyone who is considering using them for your loved ones viewing/funeral, GO ELSEWHERE. May Does Not Care, May Funeral Home only wants the money. Horrible horrible place would not wish this place on my enemies service first off the receptionist was all the way rude and knew nothing when we came in told us to make a apt so we did came back and the director was at the Camden office she told us to wait in the chapel when we went in there was a body in the casket just days after our mother just passed she never even came and got us she just said why are we waiting by the door we had to tell her it was a body in the chapel somehow she forgot so she moved us in the room with the actual casket samples and ERNs as if this was better finally a person came almost 45 min later saying she came from sicklerville but again this is the reason for appointments prior to my moms service they messed the paper work up and my moms ashes never showed up so we had a empty ern we paid for a singer and piano player who turned out to be the same person singing like sister O'Dell (bad) and paid for a minister who was the director and my brother did the prayer the death certificates also came late and was also sent to the Camden office overall horrible experience wish i could give a zero awww read more

Would not recommend this service, everytime I had called in to correct my fathers service, the gross and disgusting treatment that I had received from server all representatives including the worst by the name of Tori, had treated me as a child and told me off, she refused to adhere to mybpersonal favors to take me off the speaker phone. I'm very sorry to learn of the troubles of the other reviewers with the Willingboro May funeral home during such a difficult time in their lives. I had a completely different experience with May funeral home in Willingboro. Mr. May and Toni May showed me the utmost compassion every step of the way from setting up Mom's funeral trust to condolences upon her passing and all of the funeral planning. During the setting up of the trust something additional had to be signed. I explained that due to the emotional toll of Mommy being on hospice, that I simply could NOT set foot back in the funeral home. Toni May came to my home for me to sign the papers. Mom's obituary was flawless and the programs and prayer cards were done tastefully. They coordinated with the cemetery on Mom's mausoleum to relieve my stress. Toni May coordinated with the pastor and the funeral director (a male May family member) was the epitome of professionalism the day of the service which was held in a NJ county they don't typically operate in.
